Significant Figures Proper for Grade Point Average (GPA)

    Get PDF
application/pdfGrade Point Average (GPA) is a numerical value evaluating a student’s quality of performance and therefore has the significant figures. In order to obtain the significant figures proper for GPA,we modeled a report card which included sixty-eight total subjects graded respectively with five integral Grade Points (GP),0,1,2,3,4.The Semester GPA,the Cumulative GPA and their uncertainties were calculated by applying a statistical theory of experimental data processing. We obtained the values of the Semester GPA and the Cumulative GPA which had at most three significant figures between 0.00 and 4.00. This is supported by the obtained values of the uncertainties and consistent with the significant figures of GPA graded in many universities at home and abroad. We should evaluate the student’s performance on the basis of his/her GPA with the proper significant figures.departmental bulletin pape

JPEG-Based Image Enhancement Method with Steganographic Data Embedding and Its Performance Evaluation

    Get PDF
application/pdfWe propose a concrete configuration that enables a sender who has high resolution images to embed high frequency components of the images in the JPEG codes for lower resolution images using steganographic data embedding method. In this configuration, public receivers of the JPEG files can decode low resolution images, while specific receivers who know the fact that the high frequency components are embedded in the JPEG files can obtain high resolution images by extracting the embedded enhancement codes. For this purpose, three key methods are developed: a construction method for 16×16 higher frequency quantized DCT coefficients in the encoder, an embedding method to 8×8 lower resolution quantized DCT coefficients in the encoder, and an extraction method for the enhancement codes in the decoder. Moreover, it is clarified that the embedding operation for the enhancement codes can be omitted under specific conditions. As a result of simulation experiment that employ the proposed key methods are executed using natural images, the performance of the system is evaluated in terms of a total amount of enhancement codes, a relationship between quantization quality factors for lower and higher frequencies, a payload for embedding enhancement codes, and SNR characteristics.departmental bulletin pape

Counting Pedestrians with PIR Sensors at an One-Person Open Doorway

    Get PDF
application/pdfWe are developing techniques to count pedestrians using inexpensive pyroelectric infrared sensors. We have already proposed a method to detect numbers and directions of people walking through in a fixed direction or an opposite direction and confirmed its feasibility by various experiments. We consider techniques to count people walking through a one-person open doorway where they walk in various directions around it. A method using one sensor with a wide detection area and another using multi-sensors having a small detection area respectively are proposed. Some preliminary experimental results are also shown.conference pape

A Study on the Turbulent Duct flow in a Three-Dimensional Duct with Curvature

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe turbulent flow in a duct with curvature was investigated by measuring the three dimensional flow fields. Because of the secondary flow influenced by centrifugal force in a curved duct, the effect of duct contraction and expansion were examined. The cross sectional size of the rectangular duct was 120mm by 240mm, with a curvature of 200°. The experiments were conducted for three duct geometries: a constant duct width (the standard case), a contraction in duct width, and a duct expansion. The changes in duct width took place from the latter half of the duct curvature as it transitioned to the straight duct section. The results indicated that for the case of an expanding duct, the velocity defect flow was larger, turbulent intensity increased, and the turbulent boundary layer thickened and expanded in three dimensions, as compared with the standard straight duct case. When the flow was contracted, the turbulent intensity and the turbulent boundary layer thickness both decreased, with greater uniformity of the velocity profiles, as compared with the standard case.departmental bulletin pape

application/pdfThe aim of this study is to develop and assessment the CC pocket book in order to improve Campus life and Career consciousness for our students. The CC pocket book can be various things; setting life and study goals, schedule management, reading jobs information of our department, and so on. Moreover, we have researched utilization of the CC pocket book for about a year. As the result, users rate of CC pocket book have been decreased over time, but over half of students have been using it over about a year from distribution. Therefore, we have shown effectiveness of the original pocket book for the students.departmental bulletin pape

High-precision measurement of the nonlinear device characteristics

    Get PDF
application/pdfToday the vacuum tube is still used for the professional music instrument such as a guitar amplifier, in order to provide specific sound characteristics by the non-linearity of the amplification property. Also, it is well known that the sound is greatly different depending on the tube manufactures. However, the physical reason has not been clarified even though the vacuum tube is tailored based on the original I-V characteristics, which was demonstrated in the 1940s. This paper describes the construction of the measurement system for the vacuum tube with high precision static characteristics.conference pape

Understanding space and scale for students at Department of Civil Engineering and Urban Design

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe Department of Civil Engineering and Urban Design define Engineering Design as“ the formulation of a plan to create a product with a specified performance”. It is essential that civil engineering graduates have an understanding of imagining and creating objects in three dimensions (3D). In addition, there are many benefits in giving engineers an understanding of the creative design process. A series of four lectures entitled ‘The Understanding of Space’ are held continuously from the 2nd to 5th semester: 1. Foundation Geometry Drawing 2. Information and Design in Urban Engineering, 3. Space Creation Design 4. Advanced Space Creation Practice In the first topic, Foundation Geometry Drawing, the group can select the content of the session according to their ability, and the seating arrangement is devised so the students can mutually support each other by sharing ideas. Moreover, a textbook has been specifically written for this topic; it references a textbook of Mechanical Engineering, (Graphics and drafting) and Art Study, (Graphics in a design) in order to understand the true concept of space beyond the constraints of the civil engineering course. There is also a practical aspect of the module where the student is required to study a trihedral figure and then draw it in a cross section, third angle projection as well as in perspective. The textbook sets out the task and provides the tools and method to resolve the problem. However this is a challenging task. Some students were able to visualise the trihedral shape by comparing the trihedral figure with a single view drawing. On the other hand, some students were not able to grasp the concept of plane and solid bodies. So a 3D model of the trihedral form is created in polystyrene foam (Styrofoam) and then used as a teaching aid to assist in the explanation of how to draw the trihedral form. It also demonstrates errors in the front and side view and hopefully improves understanding of the interrelation between the plan and the orthogonal views. The students were then set a sheet of graphical problems for which they were required to return a drawing. When the submitted drawing is marked and returned, any mistakes can be explained systematically, one by one, with reference to the 3D model. This ability to physically compare 2D and 3D representations of the same shape greatly enhances the learning process. The student inevitably learns, through their mistakes, to see how a 3D solid form can be defined and created graphically. Once the problem has been solved by the student, it was recorded so the process of‘ defining the space’ could be understood and considered afterwards.departmental bulletin pape

application/pdfLED lighting industry into the new phase in 2013. Unfortunately, has become a driving force are the earthquake and Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster in Japan. The spread of LED lights advanced ahead of the world. So, Japan became the LED light developed country. Put to the coexisting market with OLED Lighting industrial in 2013. On the other hand, the LED light diffusion rate became 3-4% on the basis of amount in China in 2012. In China, Outdoor markets particularly expanded thanks to support from government policy. Indoor markets main markets are public institution. Therefore, they have issues of the expansion to general consumers market. We can believe that spread the LED Lighting little by little pushing the price down in 2013.departmental bulletin pape
