Correlation analysis between questionnaires on lectures and GPA in Hiroshima Institute of Technology
application/pdfThe students with wider range of academic ability have been matriculated in a university in recent years, because the various ways of the entrance examination have been performed. At the same time, the lectures held in a university are now forced to adapt the student groups, which include such a wide range of academic ability. To seek the suitable way for teaching the student groups including such a wide range of academic ability, it is inevitable to grasp the students’ demands and degree of satisfactions for each hierarchy of academic ability. This study aims to get indispensable information for these situations by investigating the relation between questionnaires on lectures and GPA in Hiroshima Institute of Technology.departmental bulletin pape
On Relationship between Achievement of Math Subjects in the First Year, Entrance Examination and Scores of Placement Test
application/pdfThe authors investigate the effect that the entrance examination which imposes mathematics gives to the achievement of math subjects in the first year.
We also investigate the relationship between the entrance examination which imposes mathematics and scores of math placement test which is imposed to all first year students after entrance.departmental bulletin pape
Experimental study on one-direction incremental deformation behavior of Z-type NC braced frame
application/pdfThe non-compression brace proposed by the authors is a slender brace with an end installed by a set of the wedge device. The NC brace resists tension without buckling due to no compression. The steel framed structure arranged Z-type NC brace is named Z-type NC braced frame. The braced frame can absorb elastic strain energy by one directional incremental deformation behavior. Shaking table tests and numerical analysis of a single story specimen are carried out to clarify a convergent point of the incremental deformation of the Z-type NC braced frame. It is concluded that no incremental deformation occurs in cyclic behavior of elastic-plastic NC braced frame.departmental bulletin pape
Composite beam with wedge device joint
application/pdfA beam joint with the wedge-device shows self-centering performance and separation of a tension flange. An experimental study on a beam with concrete slab is carried out to examine the concrete slab constraint the flange separation. It is concluded that the experimental results show the tension flange separation without slab constraint.departmental bulletin pape
Understanding space and scale to use terrain model for students Local area planning study
application/pdfThe Engineering design is defined as “a design is to devise a good constitution for a target,” in the department of civil engineering and urban design. It is essential to have the planning ability for students working in the field of civil engineering after graduation. In addition, there is a need for educating engineer as design education in creative imagination. Students are trained how to operate the space and the representation of urban space. “Designing Creative Space” was designed to educate the reading of the state of local space, analysis and utilizing its characteristics. The “Creative Space Practice” is decided to work on regional planning as a development issue in 2014. It is important that students understand the topography and space for the planning studies. I ordered to make area model of geographical for students, then these were very helpful to make image the area. The landscape model makes the ability to experience a three dimensional appearance of the city, to deeply understand the situation of urban space. It is grate to develop teaching materials and to educate by using model. This class had chance that a condition of receiving guidance directly from chief of the city maintenance bureau in Hiroshima. The students could know legally regulating the act of the planning and the law defined. And they were able to feel it about real plan duties. The advice from professional engineering in planning lecture is significant.departmental bulletin pape
Present and Future of the science club at Iinan town
application/pdfIinan in town because the future of regional development of human resourses, promote elementary education a high consistency retention, working on strength training for children living in families and school community work together. Increasing scientific interest in children’s school and community to work together, through the fostering logical thinking, and open an account in order to develop human resources in science and science and engineering needed to Iinan city of the future.
The held of the science club becomes the fifth time, students there are students experience reaches 100 people, the content also has been enhanced. Future, we aim to enhance the science club, more and advanced science and technology human resource development, and I would like to try to further development of science club.departmental bulletin pape
A TOEIC-oriented English course based on recitation
application/pdfThis paper is a classroom practice report featuring HIT's required sophomore English course. “Special English A” is intended to prepare students for the TOEIC test. Unlike the classes taught by professors who use TOEIC-oriented materials, I decided to take a “presentation-oriented” approach: that is, recitation. Recitation is a performing art where the speaker normally recites a poem or some other kind of rhetorical work from memory. Believed to be effective in improving the learner’s oralaural abilities, it has long been used as a gateway to learning a foreign language. For this particular course, I picked as material a speech from the inventory of TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), which is a series of academic conferences that have gained huge popularity over the last decade or so. After a series of collaborative or cooperative preparation sessions, all the students were required to give their recitations on the penultimate week for a preliminary competition, with the 8 qualifiers proceeding to the final on the 15th week. Feedback showed that at least 65% of the students explicitly voiced approval for a recitation-based approach to learning.departmental bulletin pape
Research on the Possibility of Riding-together Traffic in Residential Estates
application/pdfResidential estates near big cities tend to have residents belonging to a similar age, and so these estates are likely to age rapidly. Many of these estates are developed based upon neighborhood the neighborhood unit theory with consideration for mobility of residents in everyday life. However, some estates presuppose the use of private automobiles not only for “outside-estate” transportation but also for “inside-estate” transportation, and in these estates, the problem of vulnerable road users may become more serious along with further aging.
For the purpose of investigating current transportation situations and future problems in these residential estates, we conducted a survey about residents’ consciousness of transportation. In this article, we would like to determine some patterns of residents’ transportation choice in accordance with the obtained data, clarify necessary functions based upon the result of multi-agent simulations, and confirm the prospects and effects of share-ride traffic and its prospects.departmental bulletin pape
Difference of improving welder's skill through training progression
application/pdfWelding training has some disadvantages such as long time required and need for a considerable quantity of training material; in addition, it is dangerous for beginners. To overcome these limitations, effective training methods are being explored. These researches target one of many welding methods. However, it is necessary to consider series training of several welding methods because almost all welders are required to acquire multiple welding skills. This paper describes the influence of different training processes for SMAW (shielded metal arc welding) and TIG (tungsten inert gas welding) on welding skill improvement. A training experiment was conducted with 6 testees, who were students of the mechanical engineering department, and had never done welding before. The testees were divided into two groups-group A with 3 testees, and group B with 3 testees-and were trained for SMAW and TIG over four days. The testees in Group A were trained for SMAW during the first and second day, whereas the testees of Group B were trained for TIG during the same time. On the third and fourth day-the testees of Group A were trained for TIG, whereas those in Group B were trained for SMAW. Each day after training, tip movement and welding bead shape were measured for skill evaluation. It was observed that welding time and welding bead shape on SMAW and TIG had improved after training for two days; however, the electrode tip movement showed no improvement. Further, it was observed that skill improvement is influenced by welding method training.departmental bulletin pape
Development of Energy Harvester with Drinking Bird
application/pdfWe have developed an energy harvesting apparatus using the drinking bird for an experimental teaching material. Some of the pendulum motion energy of the drinking bird is converted into the electric energy by electromagnetic induction. The electrical energy charged in the capacitor is available to the driving power source of the calculator.journal articl
