Seismic Performance of Damaged RC Column Retrofitted by Epoxy Resin

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn order to continue to use buildings that have been severely damaged by a major earthquake, it is necessary to clarify the resistance mechanism of the repaired members. In this paper, the actual column damaged by the first reversal loading was repaired with epoxy resin using spring cupsel. In addition, the damaged surfaces of the column were repaired with fiber mortar, the strength of which was lower than the strength of the original concrete. The total amount of epoxy resin injected into the damaged column was 9.6 kg. The retrofitted column showed almost the same crack propagation as the original column. The shear cracking strength and the maximum strength increased to 1.39 times and 1.32 times that of the original column respectively. It was confirmed that the maximum strength of the repaired columns increased to those of the original columns.departmental bulletin pape

Construction of communication system with IoT equipment using Sigfox network and its application to education

    Get PDF
application/pdfWe installed the Sigfox antenna in Hiroshima Institute of Technology and acquired the data of the water meter with IoT equipment via the Internet using the Sigfox network. In addition, since we can explain the mechanism of Sigfox using that system, we could build an elementary education system. In the future, I would like to aim to build an educational system that can be used for actual lectures and practical training using materials for constructing educational systems.departmental bulletin pape

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON STIFFENING FOR H-SHAPED STEEL BEAM USING LAMINATED CARBON-FIBER-REINFORCED-PLASTIC-PLATES

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis paper reports the results of bending tests conducted on a Narrow H-shaped steel beam before and after rehabilitation using CFRP plates. These results show enhanced flexural rigidity and the moment carrying capacity of the beam due to bonding CFRP plate. An analytical model is also proposed that can predict the flexural rigidity of rehabilitated steel beam.departmental bulletin pape

“Enlarged Nouns” : a Suggestion for the Teaching of English at University

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis paper reports our new approach in reading English through the concept of“ enlarged nouns.” We held a reading circle of an English text with about 10 people, including students, staff members, and teachers, as an extracurricular activity in the Fall semester of 2015, basically once a week after school. The text was What is Freedom written by Bertrand Russell in 1952 prepared for liberal arts education at university level with notes in Japanese. Although grammatical structures of sentences are not so complicated,“ nouns” which constitute subjects or objectives, etc., are usually long and very difficult for students to understand to identify in a sentence. Rich concepts, often abstract and requiring general knowledge of historical backgrounds and social conditions, are condensed with embellishments or quantifiers into a noun. The effect of our new way of explaining and analyzing English sentences through the concept of“ enlarged nouns” was successful for our case.departmental bulletin pape

Quantization of Real Numbers ― An Approach to Quantum Gravity Theory ―

    Get PDF
application/pdfTowards a quantum theory of gravity, this paper presents a possible quantization of real numbers. The procedure to obtain a quantum real is as follows: We first prepare two algebras on the base space R, a function algebra H(R) and the Heisenberg algebra A(R) as the operator algebra on H(R). According to the scheme of, so-called, the deformation quantization, we obtain the deformed Heisenberg algebra Aq(R) with the deformation parameter q ∈ and, then, construct the deformed function algebra Hq(R) on which Aq(R) acts . The base space R introduced formally here is regarded as the quantum real numbers. In particular, we focus on the case where the parameter q is the N-th root of unity and obtain the deformed algebras Aq(R(N)); Hq(R(N)). Here, R(N) := R|qN=1 is proposed as the conclusive quantum real numbers. We further investigate the structure of R(N) and show that R(N) is isomorphic to the space Rq(N):= R×G(N) where the extra dimension G(N) is (para-)Grassmann space. Our conclusion is that the quantum real numbers Rq(N) is just the (para-)superspace.departmental bulletin pape

application/pdfResistance characteristics of exposed column-base varied column axial force, and it many used in low-rise and middle-rise steel structures. Moreover, it is difficult to estimate of exposed columnbase behaviour subjected to working stress of generally structure on ground motion. The author discussed exposed column-base behaviour and structure response on ground motion, that uses seismic response analysis results obtain from low-rise steel structure with model that can reproduce the column-base behaviour. In this paper, shown seismic response of structure with exposed column-base.departmental bulletin pape
