はじめに
戦間期に、ソーシャル・ クレジッ ト(Social Credit)運動という、今から見る 
と一風変わった社会運動がイギリ スを始めとする国々で多く の支持者を集め、 
活発に繰り広げられていた。これは、一国経済で失業が増大し、貧富の格差も 
拡大していく のは、民問銀行に よ る信用供給に も と づいた資本主義経済では、 
必然的に購買力が不足するのが原因であるとの観点に立って、信用供給を社会 
化してコントロールしつつ、一般の消費者への信用供給を確保 して、需要を拡 
大すると共に、貧困をなくそうと主張する社会運動である。
この運動は、各国が大恐慌の混乱を経て戦時経済に移行し、戦後はケインズ 
政策と福祉国家政策が確立していく中で、本国イギリ スでは次第に影響力を失 
っていった。しかし、カナダやニュージーランドといった、イギリスと関係の 
深い一部の国々に運動が広がり、カナダのアルバータ州では、1930年代にソー 
シャル・ クレジッ ト運動を推進する攻党が議会で多数派を占めて、種々の改革 
を行うに至っている。
この運動を取り上げる意義は次のとおりである。まず、金融制度や信用供給 
の望ま しいあり方を実現させよ う とする社会運動に多く の支持が集まった歴史 
的事実を再認識することである。こ う した運動がかつて盛んであったことは、 
現在の視点からは想像しにくいが、かつては金融制度や貨幣制度が人々の経済 
活動を直接左右しているという認職は明確にあり、これらのあり方をめぐって、 
活発に社会運動が繰り広げられていたのである1。
しかし、この運動が目標としていた需要の拡大による失業解消と貧困の縮小 
は、結局、戦後に確立したケインズ政策や福祉国家政策が担うことになり、こ 
の運動は急速に縮小していった。しかし、その後これらの政策が直面した問題

を、ソーシャル・クレジット運動は早くから指摘していた。この運動は、多く 
の政策目標をケインズ政策や福祉国家政策と共有しながらも、その方法につい 
ては異なった方向を模索していたわけであるが、ケインズ政策が解体し、欧州 
においても福祉国家が揺らぎ続けて久しい今、このオータナティヴと しての側 
面を検証するのも意味があろう。
以下では、こうした点を念頭に置きつつ、ソーシャル・クレジット運動の誕 
生とその主張の特徴を概観し、その意義を探る。
1 ソーシャル ・ ク レジッ ト運動の誕生
ソーシャル・ クレジッ ト運動の背景にあったのは、イギリスの労働運動や社 
会主義運動である。中でもギルド社会主義運動と呼ばれる、既存の社会主義運 
動を批判しながら新しく生まれてきた運動がその母体となっている。
19 世紀後半、イギリスでは、資本主義経済がもたらす繁栄の一方で、贫富の 
差の拡大、失業の増大と経済発展の負の部分もますます悪化し、これにつれて 
労働運動や社会主義運動が盛んになっていった。こうした連動の多く は、マル 
クス主義に基づき、社会主義政党が国家権力を獲得して、その権力を通じて生 
産手段の所有とコントロールを実現し、労働者を解放することを目指していた。 
1884年には、革命的手法をとらずにﾡ進的な改革を進展させることを目指して、 
左派の知識人が主体となってフェビアン 協会(Fabian Society) が設立 された が、 
最終的な目標は、既存の社会主義運動と大きく異なるところはなかった。
こうした中で、登場したのがギルド社会主義運動である。この運動は、ロバ 
ー ト ・ オーウェン (Robert Owen) が説いた、労働者が組織する協同組合による 
企業運営という考えに影響を受けながら、中世のギル ドのように働く人々が連 
帯して運営する組織体を構築することで、社会を変革していく という主張を掲 
げて、支持を集めていった。その 目標は、まず、企業で生産に直接携わる労働 
者が、企業内で自主的に生産を管理する権限を獲得し、いっぽうで労働者の上 
位にあった権限を縮小する ことによって、製造業の現場での意志決定と運営の 
民主主義の確立をめざすことにあった。
この運動を進化させ、拡大させるのに重要な役割を果たしたのが、『新しい時 
代(NewAge)』と呼ばれる雑誌であった。これはギルド社会主義者である多才 
なオレイジ (A. R. Orage) が編集者を務めて、政治評論だけでなく、文学や芸

術評論も盛んに発表された雑誌であるが、ここでソーシャル ・ ク レジッ ト運動 
の中心人物であるダグラス2(CliffordHughDouglas) が論陣を張った。ダグラ 
スはオレイジと協力して、第一次大戦直後の 1918年から 1922 年までの間に、 
次々 と ソーシャル ・ ク レジッ ト運動に関する文章を紙上で発表していった。
彼 らが 目指したのは、労働者階級単独での権力奪取ではなく、階級間の対立 
をなくし、階級のない社会をつくることだった。こうした観点から、既存の社 
会主義運動に批判的であっただけでなく、既存の国家による雇用の安定確保、 
负上げ、失業保険といった、当時拡大しつつあった福祉国家的政策にも批判的 
であった。けだし、こうした政策は、資本主義の安定化を もたらし、労働力の 
商品化を固定化させてしまうからである。彼らの目標からして、これは避けね 
ばならない事態であった。
2 僧用供給を通じた社会変革
それでは、ソーシャル •クレジット連動は、どのような手段で目標を実現し 
ようと していたのだろう か。彼 ら が着目 したのは、経済発展と銀行組織の発展 
とともに重要性が増大しつつあるにもかかわらず、フェビアン協会を始め、他 
の運動が見過ごしてきた、金融がもたらず問題であった。ダグラスは、現代の 
経済に占める金融の役割に気づき、生産の自主管理を行うには金融のコントロ 
ールが不可欠であると考えるよ う になったのである3。
ダグラスが特に問題と考えていたのは、「豊かさの中の貧困」、すなわち労働 
力も、生産に必要な生産設備 ・原料 ・ 資材も豊富に存在するにもかかわらず、 
資金が供給されないためにいずれも雇用 されず、人々は失業し、遊休の生産設 
備、過剰な原料や資材が溢れる現実であった。ここで生じる失業や貧困は、生 
産設備や資材が絶対的に不足する中で生じる、 工業化の初期に見られる失業や 
貧困とは、メカニズムも雇用拡大の処方箋も根本的に異なる。後者ならば、不 
足の解消、すなわち供給の拡大で失業が一時的に解消されていく ことはあり 得 
るだろう し、このような現実を背景に発展 した古典派経済学は、市場での価格 
変化を通 じて供給はその需要を創 り出すという セー法則に依拠 して理論を構築 
してきた。しかし、経済発展が進んでたびたび不祝や恐慌が繰り返されるよう 
になっても、主流派の経済学の説明は同じであり、失業と黄困の解消を求める 
人々が振り向くような処方箋を提示することはできなかった。

こうした中で、経済学を専門的に学ばなかったダグラスは、経験と直感に依 
拠しながら、問題を考察していた。ダグラスは、第一次大戦前、インドに水力 
発電設備の技師として赴任したが、当時イギリスの製造業は滞し、発電設備 
の価格は低下を続け、 いっぽうインドには安価な労働力が豊富であったにもか 
かわらず、経済学で一般に言われるようなメカ=ズムは働かず、ただ単に、十 
分な資金が得られなかったため設備の建設が中止されるという経験をした。イ 
ギリス帰国後も、ロンドンの郵便用地下鉄工事計画に参画したが、これもまた 
資金難で中止されるという経験のあと、第一次大戦が始まったが、今度は戦争 
遂行のため、あらゆる生産力が動員されることとなり、国家の資金が供給され 
て、人々 も生産設備も原料や資源も雇用され、一転して完全雇用に等しい状態 
が生じたのである。
こ う した展開を観察したダグラスは、資金供給こそが雇用確保と生産拡大の 
必要条件であることを認識した。ここで問題となるのが資金供給の方法である 
が、ダグラスが注目したのが、銀行の決済システムの発展によって生まれた、 
今で言う内生的貨幣供給のメカニズムであった。すでにイギリスでは、小切手 
による決済システムが発展し、貨幣取引にしめる現金の割合はわずかになって 
いた。特に、同じ銀行の口座の保有者同士で小切手が受け渡される場合、資金 
の移転は同一の銀行内での通知預金問の振替で完結する。そして、その通知預 
金自身も、銀行による貸し付けによって創出されうるのである。
例えば、ある製造業の企業が、製品の売り上げ前に支払いに充てる資金が 
必要になったとする。この時、銀行が運転資金としてこの企業に当座貸越を行 
って、企業がその資金をもと に小切手を振 り 出せば貨幣が創出 された ことにな 
る。企業は小切手で原材料や賃金支払いを行う。こうして購買力を受け取った 
個人や企業は、必要な物品を購入して同様に支払いを行い、また別の個人や企 
業に購買力が移転していく。最初に借り入れを行った企業も、やがて製品の売 
り上げによって小切手を受け取る。するとこの企業は受け取った小切手で銀行 
からの借入金を返済し、創出された貨幣が消滅する。こうして、創出された貨 
幣が様々な取引を実現し、最終的に債務が返済されて、消滅していく のである。
この同一銀行内で展開しているメカニズムを一国全体に拡張して、信用供与 
の条件を適切に設定すれば、信用供給とその移転が円滑に行われ、個人や企業 
は購買力を手に し、そしてそれを行使する こ と によって、他の個人や企業に次々 
と購買力が移転し、雇用も進むことになる。さらにダグラスは、A+B理論"と 
い う、独自の過少消費説を提唱 し、こ の理論に従って人々 に資金を供与すれば、

人々 が必要最小限の物資を入手する ことができ て生活が改善され、さ ら に過少 
消費がもたらすマクロの問題が解消されて需要が拡大し、雇用が増大していく 
ことを提唱した。
3 カナダでの実践
こ う した考えに基づいてソーシャル ・ ク レジッ ト運動は展開 し、一時は多く 
の支持者を集めたが、イギリスでは、政治運動と しては大政党が立ちはだかり、 
実際の政策に影響力を及ぼすことは少なかった。政治運動としての影響力が発 
揮されたのはイギリスの国外で、カナダのアルバータ州が好例であった。ここ 
では、1935年の州議会選挙で、63議席中 56議席をソーシャル・ ク レジッ ト党 
が獲得し、党首 エバーハー ト(Aberhart)を首斑とする州内閣が成立したのであ 
る。
この時期、カナダも大恐慌後の不況に苦しんでおり、デフレと失業からの脱 
却が必須の課題であった。この対策を講じるに当たって、州内閣は、生産物へ 
の潜在的需要は高いのであるから、問題は過剰生産ではなく過少消費であり、 
したがって生産の数量制限 ・ 生産抑制・ 輸出増大と言った解決策は誤りである 
として退けた。そのいっぽうで、公共事業拡大による解決は、巨額の財政赤字 
の累積と増税に陥るだけであり、深刻な誤りとなるだろうと して退けた。
その上で、真の問題は、購買力不足である として、この解決のため、ソーシ 
ヤル•クレジット連動の主張が実践された。ここで興味深いのは、人々への資 
金供給の源泉として、人々の共有財産の配当を充てるという考えが実行された 
点である。共有財産と は、州内の資源、機械設備、知職の蓄積の集積であり、 
この資産の配当と して、州民に生活に最低必要な資金を供与しよ う と した。
このもととなったのは、過去から蓄積された資産の配当を、特定の資産の保 
有者にのみ委ねるのではなく、広く 社会の構成員に分配できないかと いう ダグ 
ラスの考えであった。この考えの背景には、資本の性格の変化がある。従来は、 
固定資本の比重が小さく、生産活動から生み出される利益は、労働に携わる個 
人の労苦に依存する割合が少なくなかった。しかし現代では、固定資本の比重 
が増大し、労働に携わる個人が投じた労苦に依存する割合が低下するいっぽう 
で、株主や資産保有者に帰属する部分が増大しているが、本来、蓄積された資 
産は、過去の人問の努力の蓄積である機械 . 知識であるから、一般の人々 に広

く分配する根拠があるのでないかというのが、ダグラスの考えであった。
さらに、人々に分配されたﾡ金が、購買力として移転していく シスデムが、 
前述の決済メカニズムに沿う形で構築された。各州民は、州当局の信用機関に 
口座を保有し、分配された資金が振り込まれる。州民はこの資金をもとに小切 
手を振り出して各種支払に利用できる。ただし小切手は譲渡不可で、受け取っ 
た小切手は州当局信用機関の自己の口座に預け入れる必要がある。こうすると 
振出人の口座から指図された額が引き落と され、受取人の口座に振り込まれる。 
また、購買力の移転を促進するため、供与された資金の退蔵は禁止 され、利子 
は付与されない。この資金退蔵は、不況期の需要不足の一因として、1930年代 
に多くの経済学者が指摘していた点であるが、その解決がこのように図られて 
いたのが大きな特徴といえる5。
4 おわりに
ソー シャル •クレジット連動は、戦後、ケインズ政策や福祉国家攻策が主流 
になっていくのと並行して退潮していった。しかし、これらの政策が後に直面 
した問題点を予見しながら、信用システムの再構築といったオータナテイ ヴな 
形態で貧困の解消に取り組もう としていた史実は興味深い。また、従来の福祉 
国家政策が瓦解しつつある今、その理念を引き継ぎながらも新たな方向が模案 
されつつあるが、その中には資産配当の社会化など、ソーシャル •クレジット 
連動の試みを彷彿とさせる方向も存在する。従来の政策が大きく変容しつつあ 
る現在、その政策の誕生期に、一時的にせよオータナティヴな試みが展開され 
ていたことは考察に値すると言•えよう。

低下による債務に苦しむ中西部や南部の農家を中心に、金に対して価値が下落し統ける 
銀を本位貨幣にして、インフ レ圧力を高めて経済的苦境から逃れよ う とする連勤が高ま

こ う した史実は、現代の中央銀行が、政治からの独立性を盾にして、中立性を標榜 しな 
がら、物価安定という一義的な政策目標を遂行しているのは、歴史的に見ると特異であ 
ることを示している。

3 ダグラスは、「第一次大戦後、世界情勢の重心は、議会や大使官邸から、銀行の応接 
問や重役室に移った。人々は、以前は専門家に任せるのに満足していた経済や金融に関 
することについて、興味を持ち始めている(Douglas1931p.1) J「金融は、分配の神経 
系とでも呼べるもの(Douglas1931p.2) J などと指摘している。
4企業の支払いA+B の う ち、Aは賃金・給料・配当の形で、最終的に個人に帰属する分、 
Bは企業に対する原材料の支払い費用とすると、人々の購買力は A であって、必然的 
にA+Bを下回って消費が過小となるため、追加的な購買力の供給が必要になるという。 
6第二次大戦後の国際通貨体制の再ﾡ築に際してのケインズ案が、国を単位とするとい 
う 違いはあれ、このシステムと類似しているのは興味深い。

コメント 日本の大都市における信用補完問題との比較

Spin density waves in itinerant electron antiferromagnet Mn3Si
Shoichi Tomiyoshi 
Mn3Si is an itinerant electron antiferromagnet with an incommensurate spin structure of a wave vector Q of 
0.425a*111 below the Néel temperature of 23K. By neutron diffraction studies 3rd harmonic satellites have been 
found to exist at low temperatures at the 3Q positions expected from the propagation wave vector Q of the 
fundamental satellite. The magnitude of the magnetic moments of the 3rd harmonics is about 1/40 that of the 
fundamental. The 3rd harmonic satellites did not follow the usual temperature variation of a magnetization curve 
but disappeared abruptly above 9K. Associated with this transition the intensity of the fundamental satellites 
changed slightly and the presence of the 3rd harmonics suppressed the amplitude of the fundamental SDW. This 
transition was confirmed by specific heat measurements showing a small hump at 8.5K, which persists to high 
magnetic fields of more than 6T. The existence of the 3rd harmonics satellites suggests that a transverse 
sinusoidal structure with spins modulating in the (110) or (210) plane is the most probable spin structure of 
Mn3Si.

Abstract: In software development, comprehensive software reviews and testings are important activities to
preserve high quality and to control maintenance cost. However it would be actually difficult to perform com-
prehensive software reviews and testings because of a lot of components, a lack of manpower and other realistic
restrictions. To improve performances of reviews and testings in object-oriented software, this paper proposes a
novel model for detecting cost-prone classes; the model is based on Mahalanobis-Taguchi method— an extended
statistical discriminant method merging with a pattern recognition approach. Experimental results using a lot of
Java software are provided to statistically demonstrate that the proposed model has a high ability for detecting
cost-prone classes.

Visualization and Analyses of Three Dimensional
Magnetohydrodynamic Shock Surface ∗

The dynamics of large-scale magnetic loop in three dimensions is studied by magnetohydro-
dynamics simulations. The spontaneous fast reconnection model is used in this study. Once
a current-driven anomalous resistivity is ignited in a local region in the current sheet, the fast
reconnection mechanism spontaneously evolves. As a result, large magnetic loop is developed,
and very localized high pressure region is appeared in front of the magnetic loop. Near the
region between magnetic loop and the high pressure region, very large vortex flow is appeared,
and then, the high pressure region more and more localized due to this vortex. Plasma are accel-
erated by slow shock pairs elongated from X line. These accelerated very fast plasma jet collides
with this high pressure region, giving rise to fast shock in the finite extent. In this paper, we
show the three dimensional visualization method of shock surfaces applied metaball technique,
which is one of the three dimensional modeling methods. This three dimensional visualization of
shock surfaces allowed us to understand three dimensional configuration and evolution of them.
INTRODUCTION
Theoretical models on the fast reconnection mechanism involving slow shocks have been studied
mainly on the basis of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). We have proposed the spontaneous fast
reconnection model, which describes a new-type nonlinear instability in a long current sheet
system[1]. The basic idea lies in the following positive feedback: the self-consistent coupling be-
tween (microscopic) current-driven anomalous resistivity and (macroscopic) global reconnection
flow gives rise to simultaneous growth of localized anomalous resistivity and fast reconnection
flow by enhancing each other. Recent satellite observations have shown that dynamics of large-
scale magnetic loop heating is fundamental for solar flares[2].
The detailed 2-D structure of large-scale magnetic loop is demonstrated[3]; in particular, it is
demonstrated that a fast shock builds up and impulsively stands in front of the magnetic loop
top.
Although the 2-D dynamics of a large-scale magnetic loop is well understood, actual systems are
of course three-dimensional. It is fundamental to study the large-scale magnetic loop dynamics
in three dimensions. As already shown in a simplified 3-D situation, the fast reconnection mech-
anism may build up and proceed in a finite extent. The fast reconnection jet, associated with the
resulting slow shocks, is also confined in the finite extent. Therefore, we are interested in how
the spontaneous fast reconnection model works to bring about a 3-D magnetic loop structure in
the present specific situation.
MHD shock plays a important role in magnetic reconnection and the following behavior of
plasma. As mentioned above, these shock structure is well known in 2-D situation. On the
other hand, the 3-D structure and evolution of MHD shocks have been unknown. One of the
reason of it is the difficulty of identification of MHD shocks. Another is the difficulty of 3-D
visualization of them. In this paper, we introduce the method of the 3-D visualization of MHD

shocks. And we analyse the 3-D shock structure using the result of 3-D visualization on the
basis of simplified identification of them.
SIMULATION MODEL
Initial and Boundary Problem
As an initial configuration, one-dimensional anti-parallel magnetic field B = [Bx(y), 0, 0] is
assumed as same with[4]: The plasma pressure P (y) initially satisfies the pressure-balance con-
dition, P + B2x = 1 + β0, where β0 is the ratio of the plasma pressure to the magnetic pressure
in the ambient magnetic field region, so that P (y = 0) = 1 + β0 initially (in the present study,
β0 = 0.15 is taken); also, constant density ρ(y) = 1 is assumed with fluid velocity u = (0, 0, 0).
The normalization of quantities is also self-evident as same with[4].
The conventional symmetry boundary conditions are assumed on the (x, y), (y, z) and (z, x)
planes. For simplicity, the conventional symmetry boundary condition is assumed on the outer
boundary plane x = Lx, whereas on the other boundary planes (y = Ly and z = Lz) the free
boundary conditions are assumed. Also, it should be noted that plasma cannot flow across the
(y, z) plane at x = 0, where the mirror boundary is placed.
Sufficiently small mesh sizes are required for precise computations of the spontaneous fast re-
connection evolution, so that we assume x = 0.04, y = 0.015, and z = 0.1 (x and y are
taken to be quite the same as those in the previous 2-D simulations). The whole computational
region size is assumed to be Lx = 10, Ly = 9.6 and Lz = 9.8.
Anomalous Resistivity
As in the 2-D model, a current-driven anomalous resistivity model is assumed in the form:

where Vd(r, t) =| J(r, t)/ρ(r, t) | is the relative electron-ion drift velocity, and VC may be a
threshold for micro-instabilities. Here, kR = 0.003 and VC = 4 are taken. Then, as in the 2-D
model, in order to disturb the initial static configuration, a localized resistivity is assumed in
the 3-D form,

Here, we take kx = ky = 0.8 and η0 = 0.02 in the manner similar to the previous 2-D simulations;
also, kz provides the three-dimensional effects, and for the smaller kz the three-dimensional effect
becomes larger. This initial disturbance is imposed only in the time range 0 < t < 4, and the
anomalous resistivity model Eq.1 is assumed for t ≥ 4. Hence, the fast reconnection mechanism
may be triggered around (Lx, 0, 0) in this model.
GENERAL REMARKS
At first, we briefly show the generic feature of the 3-D spontaneous fast reconnection evolution.
Initiated by the disturbance (2), the current sheet becomes so thin locally near the (Lx, 0, 0) that
the threshold VC in (1) is eventually exceeded. Once the anomalous resistivity is locally ignited,
magnetic reconnection drastically builds up, and the positive feedback between the anomalous
resistivity and the reconnection flow eventually leads to the fast reconnection mechanism in the
nonlinear saturation phase. Accordingly, slow shock extend from the central reconnection region
and elongate outward, giving rise to the strong fast reconnection jet in the negative x direction.
Fig.1 shows the time profile of magnetic field lines on the x-y plane (solid lines), high plasma
pressure regions (isosurfaces) and plasma flow on the x-z plane (arrows) at time T=39 (left

panel), T=45 (middle panel) and T=48 (right panel) for the case of kz = 5.0 in (2). At time
T=39, the reconnected field lines propagate to negative x-direction, and plasmoid collides with
the wall boundary (y-z plane) at T=39. Then, at time T=45, large magnetic loop is formed,
and the new high pressure region is appeared in front of the magnetic loop. At time T=48, the
magnetic loop develops toward positive y-direction.
As shown in Fig.1, large vortex flow is appeared on the x-z plane following with the appearing
of new high pressure region in front of magnetic loop. The fast reconnection flow concentrates
to very restricted region in the z-direction due of this vortex flow.
VISUALIZATION OF SHOCK SURFACES
In fig.1, fast reconnection flow collides with high pressure region. Around this region, fast MHD
shock is formed. These MHD shocks are well known in 2-D situation. On the other hand, they
have not been well known in 3-D situation. The one of the reason of it is difficulty of visualiza-
tion of these surfaces.
It is possible to identify the MHD shock region from some physical quantities derived by MHD
simulations. These identifications are done at each mesh point. On the visualization of shock
surfaces, we must produce three dimensional objects constructed from these identified mesh
points. In this paper, we visualize the three dimensional MHD shock surfaces using the method
applied the metaball technique[5]. Metaball technique is one of the modeling methods in com-
puter graphics. In this technique, a new functional density distribution, which is differ from
the physical plasma density at all, is given at each point, and isosurface of the summation of
these density results in the smooth three dimensional object. In this paper, the elliptic sphere
shape density distribution is used in following form in order to construct shock surface as thin
as possible because actual shock surface is discontinuous.

DEVELOPMENT OF 3-D SHOCKS
Fig.2 shows the three dimensional shock structures for the two cases of kz values with magnetic
field lines on x-y plane. Three upper panels show that for the case of kz=3.0 at different times
T=45, 48, and 51, and lower ones show that for the case of kz=5.0. The gray surfaces show slow
shocks, and black ones show fast shocks.
We should notice that the shock surfaces in fig.2 are identified by the following manner; (1)The
spatial gradient of plasma flow speed and plasma pressure is larger than 2.18 and 3.55, respec-
tively. This condition is determined from the gradient values at time T=45. Strictly speaking,
these values have no physical meaning in this time. (2)∇U •∇P ≥ 0 and ∇B •∇P ≤ 0 for slow
shock, and ∇U • ∇P ≤ 0 and ∇B • ∇P ≥ 0 for fast shock. (3)The plasma flow in upstream is
larger than sound speed CS and that in the downstream is less than it.
For the case of kz=3.0, fast shock does not appear in all time. This is confirmed by one-
dimensional analysis on x-axis, too. Slow shock elongated from the X line is formed only in very
restricted region in the z direction. On the other hand, for the case of kz=5.0, localized fast
shock in front of magnetic loop is formed, and it moves to positive x direction with the passing
of time. Slow shock becomes narrow as approaching to fast shock.
SUMMARY and DISCUSSION
The present paper examines the magnetic loop phenomena associated with magnetic reconnec-
tion using spontaneous fast reconnection model in three dimensions. In the manner similar to
the 2-D case, the disturbance (2) is assumed in the 3-D form only in the initial time range
0 < t < 4, where the parameter kz specifies 3-D effect. The initial disturbance causes plasma
ejection in the negative x-direction, leading to plasma rarefaction near the X line, so that plasma
inflows toward X line may grow in the y and z directions. The large plasmoid propagates in
the negative x direction, and collides with y-z plane, then the large magnetic loop is formed.
After that, new high pressure region is formed in front of magnetic loop. A large vortex flows in
x-z plane is produced near the region between magnetic loop and the new high pressure region.
This large vortex causes narrowing of reconnection jet to z-direction. Then, fast shock is formed
in very restricted region to z-direction.
The spatial size of initial disturbance is important to 3-D magnetic reconnection processes. For
the case of small kz value, magnetic reconnection cannot sufficiently develop due to the in-
flow from positive z-direction. Accordingly, distinct fast shock are not able to be formed. The
modified metaball technique applied to our visualization of MHD shocks allowed us to visually
understand the 3-D configuration and evolution of them. As a result of the 3-D visualization of

MHD shocks, we can find out the 3-D structure and evolution of MHD shocks as following: If
initial disturbance is given in some large spatial space in the z direction, slow shock elongated
from X line is formed in the finite extent in the z direction, and it becomes narrow around the
fast shock. This narrowing of slow shock may be also caused by the previous vortex. Fast shock
are very locally formed in front of reconnection jet and propagate toward positive x direction
with the passing of time. The fast shock have hollow shape along with magnetic loop.

Clarification for Fracture/Damage of Brittle Bodies and Establishment 
of Strength Evaluation Method

From the industrial standing point, some sorts of metal materials and reinforced plastics used as structural 
or insulating parts in electric and mechanical machines were studied for their damage mechanism and failure 
properties, and so their new strength evaluating method with considering the time and temperature-dependence 
was devised to be useful for life assessment as well as mechanical design. Ceramics of typical brittle body were 
studied for their damage mechanism and probabilistic failure properties, and so the novel unificational strength 
evaluating method was proposed with considering both probabilistic defect dispersion and loading duration time, 
and can be evaluated probabilistically many strength data obtained by different conditions of applied stress and 
specimen size considering with effective volume as well as effective loading duration time. Both evaluation 
methods can estimate, also, the temperature-dependence of strength on the basis of active process concept and 
had been generally acknowledged to be very valuable for science as well as engineering.
