Generational Differences in the Kagawa Dialect: with Regard to Accent Patterns of Two-mora Nouns
departmental bulletin pape
Effect of the rare sugar D-allose on trauma at the neuronal level caused by intracerebral hematoma
香川大学Kagawa University博士(医学)Traumatic or non–traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) increases the intracranial pressure, leading to disabling hematomas. Iron in the hematoma causes secondary disorders such as inflammation and edema. D–allose, a rare sugar, exerts antioxidant and anti–inflammatory effects. We investigated the effects of D–allose on secondary disorders after ICH. ICH model rats were created by injecting autologous whole blood (100 μL) into the right basal ganglia of adult Sprague–Dawley rats. D–allose (200–400 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally immediately after establishing the model. A battery of motor deficit tests was examined 1 day after administration, and brain edema, doses of an oxidative stress marker (8–OHdG, apurinic ⁄ apyrimidinic (AP) site) and inflammatory cytokines (IL–1β, IL–6, TNF–α) in the brain were examined 3 days after administration. All the examined items showed that D–allose significantly suppressed the damage. These results suggested that D–allose suppresses secondary damage following ICH. D–allose is expected to have potential as a therapeutic agent for secondary disorders after ICH.doctoral thesi

Impacts of international transport infrastructure: Evidence from Laotian households
This study investigates the impact of international transport infrastructure on household living standards. Specifically, we explore how an international bridge between Laos and Thailand affects Laotian households. We use the change in the share of food expenditure out of total expenditure as an indicator of improved living standards via infrastructure. Our estimation results generated through difference-in-differences analysis and propensity score matching show that establishing an international bridge decreased the share of food expenditure, suggesting that the living standards of households close to the bridge improved. Our main results are robust to alternative treatment measurements. Finally, we explore the heterogeneity of treatment effects using a machine learning approach and find that, while households with younger heads are likely to benefit more from the bridge, almost all households in districts close to it can benefit.journal articl
Detailed evaluation of the risk of infraorbital nerve injury in postoperative maxillary cyst surgery
Objective
Postoperative maxillary cyst (POMC) develops as a delayed complication after radical surgery. The infraorbital nerve (ION) is a terminal branch of the trigeminal nerve and is one of the low-frequency collateral injuries that may occur in maxillary sinus surgery. The risk of ION injury may increase during POMC surgery due to anatomical variations: however, this has not yet been examined in detail. Therefore, we herein investigated variations in the ION in POMC cases with a focus on its relationship with the aperture site of the cyst, to clarify the risk of injury. Methods
A multifacility retrospective study was conducted between May 2014 and December 2023 on patients who underwent POMC surgery in Kagawa Medical University or Japanese Red Cross Asahikawa Hospital. Preoperative coronal CT images were reviewed from the viewpoint of anatomical variations in the ION and the risk of nerve injury. Results
Eighty-four patients (95 sides), including 11 bilateral cases, were eligible. The presence of several risk factors for nerve injury was evaluated. The following outcomes were noted: contact between the opening site and ION (27.4 %), bony erosion of the infraorbital canal (35.8 %), descent of the ION from the orbital floor (16.8 %), and obscuration of the nerve run (17.9 %). The risk of injury was classified based on the results of imaging evaluations as follows: no risk (69 cases, 72.6 %), low risk (16 cases, 16.8 %), moderate risk (6 cases, 6.3 %), and high risk (4 cases, 4.2 %). A retrospective review revealed that ION injury occurred in only 1 patient (1.4 %) who was categorized as high risk. Conclusion
Although the overall risk of ION injury is not very high, it is important to note that it may occur in some cases without precautions. Therefore, detailed CT with a focus on the ION to preoperatively assess the risk of nerve injury is important.journal articl
Real-Time Vibration Measurement for Determining Dynamic Properties of Historic Buildings for Evaluation of Seismic Performance
departmental bulletin pape
Health Session
The 3rd Trilateral Symposium on Sustainability was hosted by Chiang Mai University in Thailand from August 27th to 29th. The Health session was held on 28th at the Senior Wellness Center and nine oral presentations were delivered. The scientific findings introduced by the presenters stimulated the interest of the participants and we all enjoyed exciting discussions on the concept of sustainability. We also discussed possible future collaborations not only to expand our knowledge but also to build mutually beneficial relationships among the three universities.departmental bulletin pape
