Del oscurantismo a la Ilustración: esbozo de una educación para la democracia en The Others de Alejandro Amenábar
Get PDFIn this essay we propose that in The Others, Alejandro Amenábar creates an allegory for the transition from obscurantism to the values of the Enlightenment as Emmanuel Kant defined this movement typical of modernity. Amenábar makes Grace –the film’s main character– discover the gaps in her memory and thus to face the uncanny: something that once was fully familiar and conscious but, due to its strong traumatic burden, was expelled to the world of unconsciousness and, in the present of the plot, it returns as something sinister and alien. Amenábar criticizes an education based on fear and a blind faith while exploring the foundations of an education for democracy, a process associated with the collaborative search for truth.
Keywords: Enlightenment, modernity, education for democracy, Alejandro Amenábar, The Others.En este ensayo, proponemos que, en The Others, Alejandro Amenábar crea una alegoría del paso desde el oscurantismo a los valores de la Ilustración tal como Emmanuel Kant definió este movimiento propio de la modernidad. Amenábar hace que Grace –personaje central del filme— descubra las lagunas de su memoria para llegar a enfrentarse con lo pavoroso: aquello que una vez fue plenamente familiar y consciente pero que, debido a su fuerte carga traumática, fue relegado al mundo de lo inconsciente y que, en el presente de la trama, regresa como algo siniestro y ajeno. Amenábar critica una educación basada en el miedo y en una fe ciega a la vez que explora los fundamentos de una educación para la democracia, proceso asociado a una búsqueda colaborativa de la verdad.

En lineal y en espiral: una mirada histórica-antropológica a las posibilidades del tiempo en el relato historiográfico
Get PDFTime as a structuring category within history has been configured according to the epistemic statutes that this discipline has developed as a canonical element. In this logic, time has been constituted base on those references that eventually lead to the historiographic account as evidence of a particular epistemic moment: we think of a story based on the time we perceive. The possibilities of this dimension as articulator of the story allow us to consciously think about its anthropological position as guarantor of a human condition that allows us to open up new challenges for the trade. To think about time is to think about the story and is to think about the dialogue that the text, context and writter finally acquires. Spiral thinking, a reading proposal of the indigenous world, is understood as a possibility that recognizes in the reflection on temporality the attitude necessary to extend the limits of the same job and its understanding.El tiempo como categoría estructurante al interior de la historia se ha configurado en función de los estatutos que la disciplina ha desarrollado como elemento canónico. En esta lógica, el tiempo se manifiesta con base en esas referencias que finalmente desembocan en el relato historiográfico como evidencia de un momento epistemológico en particular: pensamos un relato con base en el tiempo que percibimos. Las posibilidades de esta dimensión permiten pensar conscientemente en su posición antropológica como garante de una condición que, ante todo humana, permite abrir nuevos desafíos para el oficio. Pensar el tiempo es pensar el relato y el diálogo que finalmente adquiere el texto, el contexto y el escritor o escritora como parte de un mismo problema. El pensamiento en espiral, propuesta de lectura del mundo indígena, se entiende como una posibilidad que reconoce en la reflexión sobre la temporalidad la actitud necesaria para ampliar los límites del mismo oficio y de su comprensión
THE FUNERAL ORATION PROJECT: PERICLES AND BEYOND
Get PDFIn democratic Athens a funeral speech was regularly delivered for citizens who had died in war. In 1981, Nicole Loraux published a transformational study of this genre. Loraux claimed that the funeral oration had played the central role in maintaining a stable Athenian identity for two centuries. In spite of its huge impact, her The Invention of Athens was far from complete. It did not compare the funeral oration with the other genres of Athenian popular literature. Loraux was thus not able to prove three of her bold claims about the genre. She also left many important questions about the five extant funeral speeches unanswered. I am directing a large international project to complete The Invention of Athens. The Funeral Oration Project is undertaking the intertextual analysis that Loraux did not attempt. Project-members first met in Strasbourg in 2018. There was a second meeting in Lyon in 2020. Cambridge University Press is going to publish our nineteen chapters in 2022. This article summarises some of our preliminary results. It focusses on those chapters in our edited volume that directly confirm or refute Loraux’s three bold claims. It discusses another chapter that answers important questions about the famous funeral speech of Pericles.En la Atenas democrática se pronunciaba regularmente un discurso fúnebre por los ciudadanos que habían muerto en guerra. En 1981, Nicole Loraux publicó un estudio innovador sobre este género. Loraux pretendía que la oración fúnebre había desempeñado el papel central en mantener una estable identidad ateniense por dos siglos. A pesar de su alto impacto, su Invention d’Athènes estaba lejos de ser completa. No comparaba la oración funeral con los otros géneros de la literatura popular ateniense. Así, Loraux no pudo probar tres de sus audaces afirmaciones sobre el género. Dejó también sin respuesta muchas preguntas importantes acerca de los cinco discursos fúnebres existentes. Yo estoy dirigiendo un gran proyecto internacional para completar L’Invention d’Athènes. El “Funeral Oration Project” está emprendiendo el análisis intertextual que Loraux no intentó. Los integrantes del Proyecto se encontraron la primera vez en Estrasburgo en 2018. Hubo una segunda reunión en Lyon en 2020. La Cambridge University Press va a publicar nuestros diecinueve capítulos en 2022. Este artículo resume algunos de nuestros resultados preliminares. Se enfoca en esos capítulos de nuestro volumen editado que directamente corroboran o refutan las tres audaces afirmaciones de Loraux. EFECTO ANTIALIMENTARIO DE EXTRACTOS DE SOLANUM ELEAGNIFOLIUM (SOLANALES, SOLANACEAE) EN INSECTOS PLAGA DE ALMACENAJE
Get PDFTribolium castaneum and Sitophilus oryzae are the major pests found in Ingeniero White Port, Bahía Blanca, Argentina, one of the most important overseas ports of the country. The widespread use of synthetic insecticides has led to many negative consequences like insecticide resistance resulting in increasing attention given to natural Products. Therefore the objective of this work was to evaluated the alterations produced on the nutritional physiology on T. castaneum larvae and adults, and S. oryzae adults, by polar extracts from leaves and from fruits of S. eleagnifolium. To evalúate the antifeeding activity and the alteration in the nutritional physiology, disks of wheat flour with ethanolic Solutions of the extracts were prepared at concentrations of 0.75,1.6 and 2.4 mg/disk. A control group with ethanol treated disks was prepared. For 72 h these disk were offer to the insects. The weight of the disks and weight of insects were registered before and after the treatment. The nutritional indices were calculated: Relative growth rate (RGR) = (A-B)/(B x day), where A = weight of insects alive on the third day/number of insects alive on the third day; B = original weight of insects/ total number of insects; relative consumption rate (RCR) = D/(B x day), where D = biomass ingested (mg)/number of insects alive on the third day; efficiency of conversión of ingested food (ECI) (%) = (RGR/RCR) x 100 and antifeeding Índex (AI) (%) = [(C-T)/ C] x 100 was calculated where C = consumption of control disks (mg) and T = consumption of treated disks (mg). The polar extracts significantly (p< 0.05) reduced RGR, RCR and ECI in T. castaneum larvae and adults and S. oryzae adults. At the major doses, feeding deterrent action (IA%) was found. In consecuense, the ethanol extracts from leaves and fruits of S. eleagnifolium, produce an antifeedant effect on larvae of T. castaneum and adults of T. castaneum and S. oryzae.Tribolium castaneum y Sitophilus oryzae son las plagas más frecuente en el área de influencia del Puerto de Ing. White, Bahía Blanca, Argentina. La aplicación de productos químicos es la práctica más recurrente para su control, pero la presión continua con estos productos ha conducido en nuestro país a la aparición de resistencia. En consecuencia, otros métodos deberían implementarse para el control de insectos plaga de grano almacenado. Así, los productos naturales derivados de plantas se muestran como una alternativa interesante. El objetivo de este trabajo fue calcular los índices alimentarios para evaluar la fisiología nutricional de larvas de 25 días de T. castaneum y de adultos de 3 a 4 días de T. castaneum y de S. orpzae frente a los extractos etanólicos de hojas y frutos de S. eleagnifolium. Para obtener los índices alimentarios, durante 72 hs se les ofreció a los insectos discos de harina tratados con diluciones etanólicas de los extractos. Las concentraciones utilizadas fueron 0,75, 1,6 y 2,4 mg de extracto/disco. Se preparó un grupo control con discos tratados con el solvente solo. Se determinó el peso de cada disco y de los insectos, antes y después de cada experimento. Se calcularon los siguientes índices alimentarios: Tasa de Crecimiento Relativa (TCR = (A-B)/ (Bxdía), donde A = peso de los insectos vivos al tercer día /n° de insectos vivos al tercer día y B = peso original de los insectos /n° total de insectos; Tasa Relativa de Consumo (TRC = D/(Bxdía), donde D = biomasa ingerida (mg)/n° de insectos vivos al tercer día; Eficiencia de Conversión del Alimento Ingerido (ECAI)(%) = (TCR/TRC)xlOO y el índice Antialimentario (IA)(%) = [(C-Tj/C) xlOO, donde C = consumo de los discos en el control (mg) y T = consumo de los discos tratados (mg). Ambos extractos redujeron en forma significativa la TCR (p < 0,05), la TRC (p < 0,05) y la ECAI% (p <0,05) en todos los insectos y estadios evaluados. Por otra parte, se obtuvieron valores positivos del IA% a la mayor dosis empleada. De este resultado se puede inferir que los extractos etanólicos de hojas y de frutos de S. eleagnifolium, producen un efecto antialimentario en larvas de T. castaneum y en adultos de T. castaneum y de S. orpzae

Get PDFThis paper investigates the use of simulators in the teaching of fluid mechanics, focusing specifically on the demonstration of the continuity equation. By using the PhET simulator, concepts of integrals, vectors and fluid mechanics are applied to simulate and demonstrate in a differential and integral way how the continuity equation is applied. The main objective of this project was to analyze the use of the PhET virtual simulator as a methodological strategy to improve Physics learning in students. The methodology used in this study was qualitative, since an interpretative analysis of the studied phenomenon was carried out, which allowed obtaining positive results in demonstrating the continuity equation. In conclusion, this study highlights that the PhET simulator is an effective tool for teaching and understanding the continuity equation, emphasizing the importance of technology in science education by providing an interactive and visually appealing experience for students.El presente artículo investiga el uso de simuladores en la enseñanza de la mecánica de fluidos, centrándose específicamente en la demostración de la ecuación de continuidad. Mediante la utilización del simulador PhET, se aplican conceptos de integrales, vectores y mecánica de fluidos para simular y demostrar de manera diferencial e integral cómo se aplica la ecuación de continuidad. El objetivo principal de este proyecto fue analizar el uso del simulador virtual PhET como estrategia metodológica para mejorar el aprendizaje de Física en estudiantes. La metodología empleada en este estudio fue cualitativa, ya que se llevó a cabo un análisis interpretativo del fenómeno estudiado, lo que permitió obtener resultados positivos al demostrar la ecuación de continuidad. En conclusión, este estudio subraya que el simulador PhET es una herramienta eficaz para enseñar y comprender la ecuación de continuidad, enfatizando la importancia de la tecnología en la educación científica al brindar una experiencia interactiva y visualmente atractiva para los estudiantes
