19世紀アメリカ合衆国南部、近代公教育制度確立過程における解放民教育の役割に関する考察 : サウス・カロライナ州ビューフォート郡におけるペン解放民学校とロバート・スモールズの事例研究
Get PDFapplication/pdfDepartmental Bulletin Paper本論文は、19世紀半ばのアメリカ合衆国南部において、奴隷解放をきっかけとして展開された解放民教育が、近代公教育制度確立過程において重要な役割を果たしたことについて、サウス・カロライナ州ビューフォート郡のペン解放民学校と黒人議員ロバート・スモールズを事例として考察したアメリカ・社会史研究である。ペン解放民学校は南北戦争中の1862年に設立され、南部における初期の黒人学校としてパイオニア的な役割を担ったが、サウス・カロライナ州の公教育制度確立過程においても大きな貢献をなした。またペン解放民学校の所在地であるビューフォート郡は、解放民のヒーローである黒人議員ロバート・スモールズが奴隷として生まれ、逃亡し、戻って元奴隷主の邸宅を購入して生涯所有し、亡くなり、埋葬された地でもあった。スモールズは1868年の憲法制定会議において、アメリカ合衆国南部における最初期の（人種・性別の如何にかかわらず全児童を対象とした）無償の公教育制度の義務化を主張して以来、生涯一貫して公教育の制度化を訴えた。departmental bulletin pape
