Correction of an adult Class III malocclusion through regaining of orthodontic space and an implant restoration
This case report describes the interdisciplinary treatment of a 23-year-old female with Class III malocclusion and a missing maxillary left second premolar. Treatment alternatives were discussed, and the selected treatment plan was presented to illustrate a way to gain space for the premolar implant restoration and correct Class III relationship through maxillary molar retraction followed by maxillary total arch protraction with a palatal temporary skeletal anchorage device. Esthetic anterior alignment and functional occlusal rehabilitation was achieved, and facial balance was maintained at the end of treatment. Clinical Significance: Implant restoration in conjunction with regaining orthodontic space by a team of multidisciplinary dental specialists presents an effective treatment solution to permanent tooth agenesis. Class III malocclusion can be treated with a combination of maxillary protraction and mandibular retraction using temporary skeletal anchorage devices. The versatility of modified palatal C-plates presents greater clinical application when related side effects are controlled with solid understanding of their biomechanics
The effects of a corticotomy on space closure by molar protraction using TSADs in patients with missing mandibular first molars
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a triangular-shaped corticotomy on the protraction of second and third molars in patients with missing mandibular first molars. Subjects and Methods: The corticotomy and non-corticotomy groups consisted of sixteen first molars in fifteen patients (28.6 ± 9.4 years) and nineteen first molars in fifteen patients (26.6 ± 8.4 years), respectively. A triangular-shaped corticotomy was performed between the second premolar and molar. Temporary skeletal anchorage devices (TSADs) were placed between the first and second premolars in both groups. Mandibular dentition variables were measured on the pre and post-treatment panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalograms. Analysis of covariance was performed. Results: The corticotomy group exhibited 2.8 mm more inter-radicular correction between the second molar to second premolar roots (P \u3c.001) and 1.6 mm more inter-radicular distance correction between the third molar to second premolar roots compared to the non-corticotomy group (P \u3c.01). The corticotomy group required 5.5 months less treatment time for space closure (P \u3c.05), but the total treatment time was the same for both groups. Conclusions: The inter-radicular distance between the mandibular second premolar and molar and treatment times for space closure was significantly reduced in the corticotomy group

This review aims to investigate efficacy of intra-articular hyaluronic acid injections for treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. Conclusion:
There are many factors impacting the efficacy of intra-articular hyaluronic acid injections. This can include source of hyaluronic acid, dosing regimen, molecular weight of the product, and patient characteristics. Overall, hyaluronic acid injections can be effective in reducing pain and improving physical function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. These injections may also prolong time between diagnosis and arthroplasty. Adverse events after injection are rare and can be product-related. Radiologic findings and severity of disease can be predictive of successful treatment outcomes. More consistent research will be necessary to overturn societal guideline recommendations to support treatment with intra-articular hyaluronic acid products
COVID-19: A New Etiology for Guttate Psoriasis
Abstract Objective: To introduce a case report of a patient developing guttate psoriasis following a COVID-19 infection. The case report reviews the patient presentation, diagnosis, treatment plan, and reviews current literature. The overall goal of this case report is to inform medical providers that COVID-19 may cause guttate psoriasis. This is important because guttate psoriasis can be induced by streptococcus bacterial infections and less commonly viral infections. A comprehensive literature search using the key words “guttate psoriasis and COVID-19 infection,” “guttate psoriasis post viral infection,” and “guttate psoriasis and COVID-19 vaccination,” was conducted using databases including Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect
Venom peptides and peptidomimetics as therapeutics
In the last 10 years, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a huge public health concern with an estimated 10 million deaths per year and a projected $100 trillion impact on global the economy. Resistance to common antibiotics is the main reason for this projection. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to find alternative ways to combat microbial infections. The use of venom peptidomimetics and peptides from a variety of sources represents a promising approach to the menace of AMR, as several approved drugs were discovered using venoms. Peptidomimetics and peptides act on many cellular and molecular targets to treat a wide range of disease conditions, ranging from cancer to microbial infections. In recent studies, microbial ATP synthase has been targeted to combat microbial infection. ATP synthase is the smallest known biological nanomotor and generator of the universal cellular energy currency. Thus, ATP synthase is being pursued as a potent molecular drug target for the application of venom peptides peptidomimetics. Venom peptides have been shown to bind and interact at the peptide binding site β DEELSEED-motif of ATP synthase. Selective inhibition of ATP synthase by natural or modified peptides may deprive cells of required energy, leading to target cell death
Amentoflavone Promotes Cellular Uptake and Degradation of Amyloid-Beta in Neuronal Cells
Deposition of fibrillar forms of amyloid β-protein (Aβ) is commonly found in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) associated with cognitive decline. Impaired clearance of Aβ species is thought to be a major cause of late-onset sporadic AD. Aβ secreted into the extracellular milieu can be cleared from the brain through multiple pathways, including cellular uptake in neuronal and non-neuronal cells. Recent studies have showed that the naturally-occurring polyphenol amentoflavone (AMF) exerts anti-amyloidogenic effects. However, its effects on metabolism and cellular clearance of Aβ remain to be tested. In the present study, we demonstrated that AMF significantly increased the cellular uptake of both Aβ1-40 and Aβ1-42, but not inverted Aβ42-1 in mouse neuronal N2a cells. Though AMF promoted internalization of cytotoxic Aβ1-42, it significantly reduced cell death in our assay condition. Our data further revealed that the internalized Aβ is translocated to lysosomes and undergoes enzymatic degradation. The saturable kinetic of Aβ uptake and our pharmacologic experiments showed the involvement of receptor-mediated endocytosis, in part, through the class A scavenger receptors as a possible mechanism of action of AMF. Taken together, our findings indicate that AMF can lower the levels of extracellular Aβ by increasing their cellular uptake and clearance, suggesting the therapeutic potential of AMF for the treatment of AD

Pilot Study for Use of the Spurgeon MethodTM of Breast Massage after Mastectomy
Importance: Reduced range of motion of the shoulder and chronic pain negatively affect the ability to complete daily activities and the mental and physical quality of life for women after breast cancer surgery. Objective: To assess the results over time of the Spurgeon MethodTM of breast massage after breast cancer surgery in improving shoulder range of motion and performance of activities of daily living. Design: Mixed methods pilot study performing the Spurgeon MethodTM protocol with participants once a week for six weeks. Setting and Participants: The setting was The Caring Place, a nonprofit program managed by the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation in Las Vegas, Nevada that provides counseling and wellness services to cancer survivors and patients. Participants were recruited from local oncologists and cancer centers in coordination with the non-profit organization. Intervention: The Spurgeon MethodTM of breast massage is a type of manual therapy that addresses lymphatic drainage, fascial restrictions, and muscles of the back, neck, shoulders, and chest. Outcomes and Measures: Shoulder abduction, flexion, and external rotation were measured before and after each session. The Quick DASH survey was used to assess changes in ability to complete daily activities comparing the level of perceived disability at the first session to that at the last session. Results: Participants demonstrated improved range of motion in all planes of motion. Quick DASH survey results improved, and participants reported reduced level of pain. Conclusions and Relevance: The Spurgeon MethodTM protocol can be used by occupational therapists to restore range of motion of the shoulder which increases the ability to complete activities of daily living with less pain and difficulty. What This Article Adds: This article provides the evidence to support the use of a step-by-step manual therapy protocol using targeted techniques to address restrictions commonly experienced by patients after breast cancer surgery
OBESITY, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND PROSTATE CANCER: AN OVERVIEW
Obesity and a lack of sufficient physical activity (PA) are recognized as risk factors for most civilization diseases, including cancer. This study synthesized the current evidence evaluating the relationship between excess body weight and prostate cancer (PCa) in the relation to the disease risk, progression, and mortality, and identifies biological plausibility of the association. We also estimated the importance of PA in intentional body weight loss. Several electronic major databases to identify eligible articles were searched until March 2022. A total 22 observational articles, the literature on the underlying biological mechanisms, and the crucial evidence of a role of PA in body weight maintenance and reduction were reviewed. the available knowledge suggests that association between body mass index and PCa is conflicting. however, the most research consistently shown that overweight/obesity was associated with higher risk of high-grade PCa and dying of PCa. overweight/obesity can promote high-grade Pca through increased levels of secreted adipokines, increased formation of proinflammatory agents, and reduced concentration of adiponectin, among others. Being obese may by also linked with a higher risk of mortality. Exercise can decrease these health consequences related with obesity and may be effective in reduction of PCa-specific mortality, however, there are relative few studies on PA and PCa prevention among obese individuals
