Domestic Tourist Perceptions of Social Carrying Capacity: Implications for Sustainable Tourism Management in Pangkor Island, Perak
Although economically advantageous, tourism growth can present considerable challenges to local communities and natural environments if not properly managed. This study examines domestic tourists\u27 perceptions of Social Carrying Capacity (SCC) on Pangkor Island, Perak, a well-known tourism destination in Malaysia. A quantitative approach was used to collect data from 92 domestic tourists through structured questionnaires and the People at One Time (PAOT) visual assessment method to assess perceived crowding during peak periods. Most respondents (84.8%) indicated that their visit was for holidays and leisure. Results demonstrate a moderate level of satisfaction with infrastructure, especially in transport services (mean = 3.27). However, concerns were identified regarding cleanliness (mean = 3.01), crowding (mean = 2.25), and interaction with local communities (mean = 2.29). Findings from the PAOT showed that moderate crowding levels were deemed acceptable, with 39.1% of the respondents selecting Image C and 37.0% selecting Image D. The study emphasises the necessity of ongoing monitoring and increased community engagement, despite current SCC indicators being within acceptable thresholds, to ensure a balance between tourism development and the quality of life for residents. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and tourism planners focused on sustainable destination management in coastal and island contexts
Selling Trust, Not Just Cars: The Perodua Nasrom Story
The Malaysian automotive industry has always been more than just the sale of vehicles. To Malaysians, cars carry a deeper meaning, they are symbols of freedom, progress, and a better life. For families in smaller towns, owning a car represents independence from unreliable public transport, while for young professionals, it is a sign of achievement and social mobility. Against this backdrop, the journey of Perodua Nasrom began in 1990, in Kampung Sireh, Kelantan.
At the heart of this story was Haji Ab Halim bin Haji Hassan, who started small by trading second-hand vehicles. His early philosophy was straightforward: “buy one car, sell one car, and repeat.” Yet beneath this simplicity was an ambitious dream, to create not just a business, but a trusted automotive brand that could serve generations of customers. By 1993, his determination paid off when Nasrom secured a Perodua dealership license, marking the start of its evolution from a modest kampung venture into a full-fledged automotive retailer.
What distinguished Nasrom early on was its belief that cars are not merely machines, but emotional milestones. Each purchase reflected a customer’s financial journey, lifestyle, and aspirations. Instead of focusing solely on profit, Nasrom positioned itself as a dealership that built trust, loyalty, and long-term relationships. This philosophy would become the backbone of its growth for decades to come
Healing Women, Building Futures: The Social Entrepreneurship of Purut Therapy Centre
In 2023, a small living room in a modest Malaysian home became the birthplace of a movement. With little more than her hands, faith, and a burning desire to help women in need, the founder of Purut Therapy Centre began offering womb therapy and herbal treatments to neighbours. Word spread quickly: women whispered to each other about a place where healing was not only physical, but also emotional and spiritual. Soon, the home was filled daily with mothers, daughters, and grandmothers seeking relief, guidance, and dignity. What began as a personal service of compassion soon transformed into a social enterprise, bringing hope to single mothers and B40 women who longed for both income and empowerment.
“I only wanted to help one mother at a time,” the founder recalled softly. “But soon, I realized that every womb I healed, every woman I supported, was part of something bigger a movement of empowerment,” she muttered to herself.
She looked around the room that once felt too small, now overflowing with stories of resilience. Each herbal bath prepared, each massage delivered, was no longer just a treatment it was a symbol of hope. The mothers who came seeking healing left with renewed strength, while the women she trained discovered not just skills, but also dignity and independence. What began in a humble living room was no longer hers alone; it belonged to a growing community of women determined to rise togethe
Bila Tuhan Berbicara (2007): The Ideology of Ashabul Kahfi
ABSTRACT
Literature serves as a mechanism for reinforcing an author’s ideology. Ideology, in this context, refers to a set of values, principles and beliefs that form the foundation of an individual’s, society’s, nation’s or state’s worldview. Faisal Tehrani’s novel Bila Tuhan Berbicara (2007) embodies principles and values that not only influence its narrative but also shape the framework of his beliefs and thoughts. While many previous studies have discussed the relationship between ideology and literature, there is a lack of detailed research on the ideology of an author derived from specific Quranic surahs, such as the conceptual thought of Ashabul Kahfi and its profound manifestation within the narrative of a literary work. This gap highlights a significant shortcoming in modern literary discourse, particularly in the context of Faisal Tehrani’s writings.Using a qualitative approach based on textual analysis, this study aims to analyse how the ideological concept of Ashabul Kahfi is manifested by Faisal Tehrani in his novel Bila Tuhan Berbicara. The discussion focuses on the process and relationship of Ashabul Kahfi’s ideology in shaping a set of values, principles, and beliefs within the world of Bila Tuhan Berbicara. The findings reveal that three types of Ashabul Kahfi thought serve as the main driving forces of the narrative in the novel. This study offers a significant contribution to expanding modern literary discourse, especially in works that creatively incorporate religious and philosophical themes.
The Relationship Between Chinese Calligraphy and Modern Fashion Design for Chinese Identity of Z Generation Young People
ABSTRACT
This study explores how calligraphy, an important part of traditional Chinese culture, influences modern fashion design among young people in China’s Generation Z. As this group increasingly expresses interest in their cultural identity and heritage, the research uses quantitative method to understand this trend. Recent trends indicate a renewed interest among the youth in choosing fashion that reflects cultural heritage, as seen in the popularity of traditional styles at fashion events and on social media. By using case studies and surveys, the study provides practical insights for fashion designers. It suggests that incorporating traditional elements in fashion not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also strengthens cultural identity. The research finds a positive link between income levels and cultural identity, suggesting that those with higher incomes have more resources to explore and showcase their cultural roots. Interestingly, the study finds that individuals from lower-income backgrounds also show a strong cultural identity, possibly using cultural expression as a form of empowerment. The analysis further indicates that a person\u27s occupation and education significantly shape their cultural identity, influencing their fashion preferences. With its significant findings from variance analysis, the study stresses the importance of these factors in cultural expression. By gathering detailed insights from case studies and consumer feedback, the study offers specific guidance for designers looking to blend traditional Chinese elements with modern fashion, thereby promoting cultural appreciation and exchange on a global stage.ABSTRAK

Malay Heroic Archetype in the Script Si Bongkok Tanjung Puteri: Between Reality and Falsehood
ABSTRACT
The false hero, a figure who pretends to be heroic while pursuing self-serving interests, plays a significant role in many traditional narratives by complicating the moral landscape. This study examines the character Si Bongkok from the Malay script Si Bongkok Tanjung Puteri by applying Propp\u27s framework through qualitative textual analysis. The analysis focuses on five key characteristics demonstrated by Si Bongkok as a false hero: deception, manipulation, self-serving motives, interference with the true hero, and temporary success. The findings reveal that Si Bongkok\u27s actions closely align with these traits—he deceives others, manipulates situations for personal gain, disrupts the true hero\u27s efforts, and experiences fleeting victories before ultimately succumbing to defeat. Situating Propp\u27s archetypal false hero within the Malay literary and cultural context provides new insights into the narrative function and moral complexity of false heroes in traditional Southeast Asian drama.

A Systematic Review of Empty Pesticide Container (EPC) Practices and Associated Factor in Agriculture Sector
This systematic literature review explores the current state of empty pesticide container (EPC) disposal practices among farmers and the factors influencing these practices. The review identified 34 research articles and official reports that examined EPC disposal methods in the agricultural sector. The findings revealed that leaving empty containers at the farm and throwing them in irrigation canals were common disposal practices in several countries, posing environmental risks. Recycling and selling EPC were less prevalent, highlighting the need for improved infrastructure and awareness. Factors such as age, education, knowledge, training, facilities, and government regulations were found to influence farmers\u27 disposal practices. The review underscores the importance of education, training, awareness campaigns, and supportive policies in promoting proper EPC disposal. Future research should address the identified limitations and explore the environmental and health impacts of different disposal methods in diverse contexts
Insect diversity and guild composition in seasonal tropical fruit orchards
Tropical seasonal fruit orchards are dynamic ecosystems that support a wide range of insect species, contributing significantly to regional biodiversity and various ecological functions. This study aims to assess the diversity and guild structure of insects in fruit orchards in Northern Malaysia during both the off-season (December 2022–January 2023) and the flowering season (February 2023 – April 2023). Insects were collected using pheromone traps, malaise traps, and sticky traps across four locations in Penang and Kedah, Malaysia. A total of 1,930 individual insects, representing 11 orders and 56 families, were captured during the off-season, while 4,569 individuals from 11 orders and 58 families were recorded during the flowering season. Chrysopidae (Neuroptera) was the most abundant family during the off-season (688 individuals), whereas Tephritidae (Diptera) dominated the flowering season (1,863 individuals). The flowering season exhibited greater insect diversity (H’=2.134) and evenness (E=0.526), although the off-season had higher species richness (IMargalef = 7.27). In terms of guild structure, pests were the dominant insect guild in both seasons, followed by pollinators. By comparing the relative abundance across the two seasons, pest abundance increased from the off-season to the flowering season, while pollinator abundance significantly decreased. This finding provides valuable insights into the insect fauna within the fruit orchards which can contribute to a better understanding of insect ecology and aid in the development of sustainable pest management strategies

Global Climate Change and the Impact of Harmattan on Theatre and Film Costumes in Nigeria
Climate change is a phenomenon characterised by long-term temperature and weather shifts in a particular geographical location. Over the years, human activities have increased their severity on the global environment leading to global environmental degradation mostly caused by gas emitted from greenhouses through industrialisation and indiscriminate urban waste disposal systems. The consequence of this in the world is the harsh ecosystem and declining biodiversity. To address these challenges in the 21st century, theatre/film practitioners among other climate change dissenting voices engaged literary and entertainment platforms to express their opinions on the devastating state of global climate and the quest for positive environmental transformation. Thus, live theatres and films were energised to produce productions reflecting the negative impact of climate change and provide solutions to them. To this effect, costumes worn by the actors become a very significant visual tool for disseminating the message to the audience. However, the management of theatre costumes is also affected by the changing climate that results in extreme weather events. Thus, this paper examines the vulnerability of some selected fabrics from the costume room of the Department of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin, Kwara state, Nigeria to determine the impact of harmattan season. Temperature and wind velocity were used as signals of harmattan severity in the study area. Findings revealed that dust and heat are the most prevalent hazards of costume during this season and coping strategies for managing them were recommended
