    Comparison of O3, NO, NO2 concentrations and meteorological parameters in urban, sub urban and rural residential area

    Ozone (O3) have many adverse impacts toward the living human, environment and O3 formed through the photochemical reaction with the aid of sunlight. Therefore, this study focused on the determination of O3, nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations and meteorological parameters (temperature, humidity, wind speed and wind direction) three residential area namely Taman Tun Dr Ismail Jaya, Selangor as the urban area, Taman Delima, Sungai Petani, Kedah as the sub urban area and Taman Kifayah, Jeli, Kelantan as the rural area. The monitoring were continuously done for three days in 24 hours from 12 a.m. until 12 a.m. per day at each site. Aeroqual S500 series and weather station model RK900-01 were used to measure O3, NO, NO2 concentrations and meteorological parameters. The concentration of O3, NO, NO2 and the meteorological parameters were determined and O3 concentration was compared by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Among the studied areas, the highest mean O3 concentration was recorded in Taman Delima, Sungai Petani with 35.2 ppb followed by Tun Dr Ismail Jaya with 33.3 ppb. Result suggested that sub urban areas showed higher mean O3 concentration compared to urban area which might linked to the availability of the O3 precursors in the area. As expected, the lowest mean O3 concentration recorded at Taman Kifayah, Jeli with 12.1 ppb as the area have limited O3 precursor’s sources. However, the ozone concentration at three residential areas were still under permissible level according to Recommended Malaysia Ambient Air Quality Guidelines (RMAAQ)

    Shear joints and its relations with subsurface structures in Batu Melintang, Jeli, Kelantan, Malaysia

    Shear joint is the common rock deformation structures formed in Batu Melintang, Jeli due to its location within Bentong-Raub Suture zone. The structural analysis of shear joint can give information about the direction of maximum and minimum stress exerted on a rock while undergoing deformation as the effect of stress fields in the study area. The subsurface structural analysis is done by using the geophysical resistivity method. It displays the subsurface structure in the area for confirmation of the structure found on the surface whether it is highly fractured, moderately fractured or low fractured. The research area was divided into six grids for systematic field measurement. The shear joints orientation were taken while conducting geological mapping and recorded using rose diagram analysis; while the geophysical resistivity method was carried out with a varied length of survey lines set at 200/100m and 1.25/2.5/5m electrode spacing. The subsurface depth of penetration for each survey line is varied, ranging from 0m to 50m. The data is processed in RES2DINV software to obtain the pseudosection profile of the subsurface. The study area principal stress was identified; the maximum stress force ?1 was directed in NW-SE in direction of S107°E and N287°W, while minimum stress ?3 was directed in NE-SW in direction of N17°E and S197°W. The pseudosection subsurface image also displayed a correlation between surface shear joint structures and subsurface structures. The subsurface investigation; according to the pseudosection found that the study area consists of highly fractured structure displayed as several weak zones and fractures of bedrock

    Mollusca diversity in mangrove ecosystem of Delta Tumpat Kelantan

    Mangroves play a significant ecological role as a physical habitat and nursery grounds for a wide variety of aquatic vertebrates and invertebrates include molluscs. This study focuses on assessing the diversity and characteristics of mollusc species in disturbed and undisturbed mangrove ecosystem areas in Delta Tumpat, Kelantan. In each site, molluscs were collected using dredging method during high tide and gleaning technique during low tide. Physical characteristics and diversity index (H’) were calculated for both sites. A total of 14 mollusc species were found in the study area including five species from Bivalvia and nine species from Gastropoda class. More species were found in the undisturbed area which had produced a high species diversity (H’=1.99) compared to the disturbed area. The biggest species found at both areas was Telescopium telescopium with 7.62cm in size. Meanwhile, Cerithedia aurisfelis was the smallest species found with the size of 0.87cm. The difference in the growth of molluscs species in mangrove ecosystems depends on the quality and quantity of available food resources

    Analysis of spatial determinants of poverty in Kelantan

    This study examines socio-demographic effects on poverty and measures spatial patterns in poverty risk looking for high risk of areas. The poverty data were counts of the numbers of poverty cases occurring in each 66 districts of Kelantan. A Poisson Log Linear Leroux Conditional Autoregressive model with different neighbourhood matrices was fitted to the data. The results show that the contiguity neighbour was performed nearly similar to Delaunay triangulation neighbourhood matrix in estimate poverty risk. Apart from that, the variables average age, number of non-education of household head and number of female household head significantly associated with the number of poor households head. Kursial was found as the highest risk area of poverty among 66 districts in Kelantan

    Bangsa Malaysia Narrative: Knowledge, Indigeneity and Nation-state in a Diverse Society

    The political stability of a nation is related to the development of its nation-state. However, the economic progress of a country is the main basis of measurement. Economic growth and societal well-being are the concern of the newly elected government and the political party winning in the election. Even though most of the post-colonial countries have gained independence, these countries are integrated into the world capitalist system, facing globalisation and exposed to the digital revolution, where not just monetary, information and technology cross-national borders, but aslo manpower from super-diverse socio-cultural origins and worldviews. Thus, if ethnic and religious differences in the society are politicised, especially during times of economic crisis and political campaigning, social tension will take place and eventually, the nation will not be politically stable. The ethnic and religious contestations among the groups affected need to be studied not just solely on the influence of these dimensions as primordial and their social inequalities to the sources of the societal materials but also their importance in defining the political sphere with their interpretation of their own nation-of-intents to gain the political power to rule the country. The contemporary political crisis faced, especially in the aftermath of the General National Election of 2018, has forced researchers to dwell their understanding beyond the importance of ethnic origins but be concerned of ethnicity as it relates to nationalism, nation-building and the nation as the roots of the underpinning political problem being faced. Understanding, explaining and managing the varied nation-of-intents need to be given top priority to ensure national unity, national-building and political stability as the national ultimate agenda of the nation. Sustainable development agenda of the country cannot be separated from the concerns for national unity, nation-building and political stability

    Domain and Language Choice by Three Generation of Sama Bajau Ethnic

    The Bajau Sama is the second largest ethnic group in Sabah. The main ethnic settlement of Bajau Sama in Sabah is located at Kota Belud on the West Coast. As a bilingual community, the choice of language by this Muslim community varies according to generations and domains which may not favor the native language. The Domain Analysis Theory (Fishman) is applied to study the choice of language in a specific domain by participants from Kampung Taun Gusi, Kota Belud, Sabah. Survey methods with questionnaires were used to obtain information from the first (GI), second (GII) and third (GIII) generations. The mean value for each group in the family domain indicated that the GI and GII used more language Bajau Sama while the GIII tendency was towards Malay. In the neighborhood domain, GI has chosen Bajau Sama language but GII and GIII preferred BM. However, in education, religious services, and purchasing domains, all generations preferred Malay. The most important finding was the younger generation (GIII) has shifted to Malay in the family domain and in all public domains. This generation acted as a catalyst for language shift which posed a threat to the Bajau Sama language vitality even in informal domains such as family and neighborhood. This finding shows there is a decline in the intergenerational language transmission of the mother tongue among the Bajau Ethnic communities

    Isolation and Characterization of Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) Producers from Kg Batu Melintang hotspring

    The increasing awareness on the negative environmental impact of petroleum-based plastics has driven industries to explore more efficient biodegradable polymers for production of bioplastic. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) is one of the potential biodegradable polymers to replace petroleum-based plastic. It is synthesized and accumulated as intracellular granules in microorganism. In this study, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) producing bacteria were successfully isolated from sediment collected from Kg. Batu Melintang hotspring. Isolation process was carried on Minimal Salt Medium (MSM) agar supplemented with excess glucose as a carbon source. Potential PHA producers were screened by using Nile Blue staining plate assay. Out of 144 bacterial isolates, 12 bacterial isolates which showed strong orange fluorescence under ultraviolet (UV) light (365nm) were selected for further identification by morphological characterization and biochemical analysis. Based on the result obtained, possible species for Gram positive rod shape bacteria B75 and B87 is Corynebacterium kutsceri meanwhile Gram negative rod shape bacteria A4, A12, A50, A68, B2, B13, B22, B31, B73 and C3 showed affiliation to Citrobacter sp., Enterobacter sp., Erwinia sp., Klebsiella sp., Proteus sp., Salmonella sp., Serratia sp., Shigella sp., and Yersinia sp

    Arabic Language Teachers’ Practice of Reading Aloud Skills While Teaching Literary Texts: ?????? ????? ????? ??????? ??????? ??????? ??????? ?? ????? ????? ?????? ???????

    Reading aloud is considered the basic introduction to the development of vocabulary, enrichment of language dictionaries, and development of the ability of imagination which motivates creative thinking. Therefore, this study aims to identify the amount the Arabic language teachers practice skills of reading aloud while teaching the literature paragraphs at the end of the primary education from the view point of the educational advisors. In order to accomplish this, the study used the descriptive analysis. The sample included 60 educational advisors who work in the field of educational supervision in basic education schools in Taiz Governorate - Yemen for the academic year 2019-2020, which constitute 43% of the population of the study, chosen randomly. The results of the study showed that there is a decline in the amount of Arabic language teachers’ practice of skills of reading aloud while teaching the literature paragraphs at the end of the primary education.  There were significant differences at the 0.05 significance level that could be attributed to the level of education (Masters or higher) of the educational advisor in his evaluations of the amount of Arabic language teachers’ practice of the skills of reading aloud while teaching the literature paragraphs during the end of the primary education.  There were no significant differences at the 0.05 significance level that could be attributed to experience in the area of educational supervising and advising for the educational advisor in his evaluations of the amount of Arabic language teachers’ practice of skills of reading aloud while teaching the literature paragraphs in the last part of the primary education. Based on the results of the study, a few suggestions were proposed such as establishing special training programs for Arabic teachers of the primary education during their service. This training would include teaching reading in general and teaching reading aloud specifically

    Analysis of the Language Style of Fasl wa Wasl in Surah Al-Qiy?mah

    This study discusses on the language style of fasl wa wasl in surah al-Qiy?mah which is one of the most important elements through the relationship between words or a sentence. This study addresses two main objectives namely to identify the form and purpose of the fasl wa wasl and secondly, to formulate the implicit meaning through the relationship between words and sentences. Hence, this study aims to highlight a form of relationship that exists in the story and telling of the Day of judgment found in Surah al-Qiy?mah. To achieve that goal, a qualitative study by employing texts analysis was carried out. The findings show that there are five particles ‘wau ‘a?af’ in the sentence, and 10 are at the beginning of the verse. Of these, there are eight forms of relationship between the verses that have the equality between the two verses from the angle of expression and meaning, while only two relation of the verse which has the equality of two verses from the point of the meaning of the word with the first sentence of the verse and both of them are referred to as insyaiy. From the context of fasl, there are three forms process of fasl which is perfect connection, a perfect connection and perfect cutting without ambiguity. These three processes include reinforcement, re-evaluation and explanation, formed due to general, specific and non-causal forms, and different forms of sentences from the cornerstone and the meaning of the khabar and insya’ oor that have no meaning in the verse. This study can reveal the uniqueness of the message regarding the situation of the day of Judgment to be addressed through the process of fasl wa wasl in surah al-Qiy?mah
