    No full text
Growth performance can be used as indicator to utilize the general adaptability of the farm animal in the housing system. This study was done to evaluate the impact of traditional wooden and aluminium galvanized iron houses on growth performance of Saanen does for a period of three months. Twelve, aged nine to twelve months old Saanen does with average weight 24.6 ± 1.2 kg was randomly were assigned to each housing types (n = 6 per group). Live weights were recorded weekly, and total weight gain and average daily gain (ADG) were analysed using non-parametric tests. The results revealed no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05) in weekly weight gain or average daily gain (ADG) between the two housing types. However, the traditional wooden house (weekly weight gain: 0.69 ± 0.2 kg, ADG: 98.22 ± 23.4 g) demonstrated slightly higher compared to the aluminium galvanized iron house (weekly weight gain: 0.60 ± 0.1 kg, ADG: 85.32 ± 16.4 g). Weekly growth trends revealed steady weight increases with temporary stagnation around weeks 4–6 due to feed supply challenges. These findings confirm that both housing systems provide adequate environments for the physiological development of Saanen does. The study supports the feasibility of aluminium galvanized iron housing as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative for small ruminant farming in Malaysia

The Role of Influencers in Shaping Political Participation Through Psychological Mechanisms

    No full text
The rise of social media influencers in Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia, has significantly reshaped traditional modes of political engagement and communication. This study examines the psychological mechanisms through which influencers affect political participation, focusing on parasocial interaction, social identity formation, narrative persuasion, and heuristic processing. Using a qualitative, thematic content analysis of secondary data drawn from platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook during Malaysia’s 15th General Election (GE15), the study explores how influencers frame political messages and mobilize their audiences across various demographic segments. The findings reveal that influencers serve as informal yet highly influential intermediaries of political content, particularly effective among younger, digitally native voters who often distrust or disengage from mainstream political actors. By leveraging emotional relatability, perceived authenticity, and real-time engagement, influencers play a pivotal role in shaping political awareness, opinion formation, and participatory behaviours. Additionally, the study considers the dual nature of this influence—highlighting both the potential for positive civic engagement and the risks associated with misinformation, performative activism, and political polarization. Ultimately, the paper underscores the growing importance of influencer-led advocacy in Malaysia\u27s digital political landscape and emphasizes the urgent need for ethical guidelines and regulatory oversight to safeguard democratic discourse and ensure responsible political communication in the age of algorithm-driven influence

    No full text
Walkability in university campuses has attracted more attention in Malaysia due to its influence on student health, mobility, and environmental sustainability. However, few studies have examined the determinants of walking behaviour in local higher learning institutions. This study investigates the relationship between determinants of walkability and walking behaviours among students at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Bachok Campus. A quantitative approach was adopted to gain deeper insights into the determinants of pedestrian behaviours. Quantitative data were collected from a purposive sample of 300 students through a structured survey in May and June 2024 and were analysed using SPSS Version 28.0 and AMOS. This study reveals that among the three factors encouraging walkability on campus, only Amenities and Environmental Factors significantly influence student walking behaviours. In contrast, despite high ratings, Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure factors showed no statistical effect. These findings highlight the importance of campus environments enriched with amenities and environmental features in shaping students\u27 walking behaviours. Prioritising such elements can promote more active, sustainable, and engaging mobility patterns across the campus

The vocalization patterns of frogs in the family Megophryidae from Sarawak, Malaysia, play a crucial role in their behavioral ecology. This study aims to document and analyze the advertisement calls of seven Megophryidae species across diverse habitats in Sarawak. Using field recordings and acoustic analysis, distinct call characteristics, including frequency, duration, and temporal patterns, were identified. Advertisement calls were recorded and analyzed using SoundRuler Acoustic Analysis (ver. 0.9.6.0) and Praat Acoustic Software, allowing for species differentiation based on call parameters. The results revealed species-specific variations in vocalization, with pulse note count, note repetition rate, and dominant frequency emerging as the most distinguishing features. Leptobrachium ingeri exhibited the highest number of pulsed notes per call, while Leptobrachella gracilis demonstrated the highest note repetition rate, and Leptobrachella mjobergi produced the highest dominant frequency. These findings enhance our understanding of species-specific vocalizations and their ecological significance, particularly in mate selection, territorial defense, and environmental adaptation. This study underscores the importance of acoustic monitoring in biodiversity conservation and provides a foundation for future research on amphibian communication in tropical ecosystems

    No full text
Observations on avifauna were conducted across 10 forest eco-parks (FEPs) in Perak from 19 to 26 April 2024 to document and update avifaunal species richness. Two teams of six observers conducted direct observations using cameras and binoculars. Over the eight-day survey period, each team concurrently covered five sites, with each site surveyed for a total of 10 hours per site. Overall, a total of 132 bird species from 44 families were recorded. The family Pycnonotidae showed the highest species richness, encompassing 10.6% (14spp.) of the total species documented in the study. Resident birds dominated the observations, accounting for 87.9% (116spp.), while insectivorous species were the most common feeding guild, comprising 47.7% (63spp.) of the total species recorded. The most widespread and frequently encountered species were the Oriental Magpie-robin (Copsychus saularis), Black-headed Bulbul (Brachypodius atriceps), and Red-eyed Bulbul (Pycnonotus brunneus). According to the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010, 112 species are classified as Totally Protected (TP), and 10 species as Protected (P). Based on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, two species are listed as Endangered (EN), and three as Vulnerable (VU). This record emphasized the role of these sites as important refuges for species of conservation concern. Among all sites, Kaki Bukit Larut FEP recorded the highest species richness, representing 38.6% (51spp.) of the total species. Bird species richness varied between sites, with low to moderate Jaccard similarity values (J = 0.05-0.33), reflecting high species turnover and highlighting distinct avian communities across the study area. The highest similarity was between Kledang Saiong and Papan FEPs (J = 0.33), while Sungai Salu FEP exhibited the most distinct species (J = 0.05). Hypothetically, habitat structure, elevation, geographic location, food availability, and rainfall may be among the most influential factors shaping bird species richness across the forest eco-parks in this study, as highlighted in prior research. These findings demonstrate the ecological uniqueness of each forest eco-park and emphasize the importance of conserving multiple sites to preserve regional bird diversity. This study also provides essential baseline data for stakeholders, including the Perak State Forestry Department, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, the Perak State Government, ecotourism planners, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), to inform future conservation planning and biodiversity monitoring efforts within Perak’s forested landscapes
