Growth performance of durian based on crop water requirement (ETc) using irrigation system

    No full text
Water use for agricultural production in water scarcity regions requires precise irrigation water for sustainable irrigation management. The correct amount of irrigation water should be applied to ensure the survival of plants. Currently, farmers apply irrigation without considering the actual amount of the crop water requirement (ETc), which may lead to over or under-irrigation. These problems may cause water logging, crop stress, reduced yield and inefficient farm management. Durian (Durio zibethinus) is an important economic crop of Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Lately, durian plantation has been increasing in Malaysia with innovative and sustainable approaches through irrigation or fertigation. The growth of durian is highly affected by water and nutrients given to the plants. This paper highlights the effect of precise irrigation through durian water requirement. Hence, this study aims to compare the difference in growth performance between existing practices (irrigation without ETc) and irrigation based on ETc. The study was conducted in the durian plantation at Sri Lalang, Kluang, Johor. There were two treatments tested on the durian, which are treatment 1 (T1) existing practice (irrigation without ETc) and treatment 2 (T2), irrigation based on ETc. The experimental design for this experiment is a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four (4) blocks, and four trees for each treatment per block. The data collection includes the height of the tree, canopy width, girth’s diameter, node distance, leaf length and leaf weight. These data were analysed using ANOVA and LSD. Data was collected from April until November 2020. There was a significant difference in node distance from April until September. However, there were no significant differences for other growth parameters, suggesting precise crop water requirement can save water and minimize cost for the whole irrigation management

Farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa are often deterred from using fertilizers on their crops due to the high cost of inorganic fertilizers and the environmental strain associated with intensive agriculture, which relies heavily on inputs. However, a comprehensive understanding of how the integration of organic biomass, such as Senna siamea leafy biomass, and conventional fertilizers like NPK (15:15:15) impacts the growth and yield of specific crops like hot pepper is lacking. A field experiment was carried out at the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources Demonstration Farm, KNUST-Kumasi, Ghana in 2023 to assess the effect of S. siamea leafy biomass and NPK (15:15:15) inorganic fertilizer on the growth and yield of hot pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) in a randomized complete block design. Four treatments were used and allocated as T1 (Control), T2 (0.096kg of NPK), T3 (0.32063kg of S. siamea leafy biomass) and T4 (0.1532kg of S. siamea leafy biomass + 0.048kg of NPK). The treatments were replicated four times. The parameters investigated were; height, number of leaves, fruit yield and fruit dry weight. Treatments showed significant difference between them in the parameters investigated on, p?0.05. The combined application of S. siamea leafy biomass and NPK (15:15:15) fertilizer significantly increased the growth in height (42.75 cm), number of leaves (40.75), fruit yield (305291 fruits/ha) and dry fruit weight (484 kg/ha) of hot pepper compared to the sole application of the individual materials and the control, p?0.05. In terms of effect of these treatments, T4 [(0.1532 kg of S. siamea leafy biomass + 0.048 kg NPK (15:15:15)] favored the growth and yield of hot pepper the most, followed by the sole application of S. siamea leafy biomass T3 (0.32063 kg of S. siamea leafy biomass), sole NPK (0.09 kg of NPK) and then T1 (control) recording the lowest growth in height (19.32 cm), number of leaves (21.25), fruit yield (129693 fruits/ha) and fruit dry weight (115 kg/ha) of hot pepper. Therefore, the combined application of T4[(0.1532 kg of S. siamea leafy biomass + 0.048 kg NPK (15:15:15)] could be adopted by farmers as an economically fit fertilizer treatment for optimum hot pepper performance. Additionally, S. siamea leafy biomass might be adopted by hot pepper farmers as an alternative to inorganic in terms of cost and availability in sub-Saharan Africa

    No full text
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are vital to developing economies, yet many fail in their early stages. Extensive research has explored the factors that contribute to their success, with entrepreneurial education receiving significant attention. However, the impact of such education on entrepreneurial success remains unclear. This review seeks to examine the theoretical foundations linking entrepreneurial education and success, while identifying key indicators and predictors of success in order to improve educational approaches for SMEs, which are crucial economic indicators. The analysis reveals a lack of literature specifically addressing how education influences success, particularly from psychosocial and technological perspectives. Moreover, few studies consider the roles of learner autonomy and digital literacy as mediators or moderators in the relationship between entrepreneurship education and success. This highlights a need for further research on these aspects. The review offers insights for various stakeholders, including researchers, educators, entrepreneurs, governments, and policymakers. By incorporating these factors into research, policy, and training programs, it aims to enhance entrepreneurial education, drive SME success, and contribute to global economic growth

    No full text
Gerakan terorisme dalam kalangan Muslim wujud dengan pelbagai nama seperti Boko Haram, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) dan sebagainya.

ABSTRACT The quality evaluation of innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) in the education sector is achieving worldwide attention as empowering nations with high-quality talents is quintessential for economic progress. China, a pioneer in the world market in almost all sectors, have transformed its educational policies and incorporated entrepreneurial skills as a part of its education models to further catalyst the country’s economic progress. Innovation is the capacity to perceive connections, identify possibilities, and capitalise on them. Entrepreneurship means the creation of new economic activities and organisations and the transformation of existing ones. Quality evaluation involves monitoring progress towards desired goals and objectives. There is a frequent problem: lesser model exploration research on professional education and practical education, which may result in poor quality I&E education. The objectives of this research were to explore the quality of innovation and entrepreneurship teaching at higher education institutions using Stufflebeam\u27s CIPP evaluation. Participants in the study include the director of the innovation and entrepreneurship education department, the head of the administrative function department, and instructors from the Changzhou Institute of Industrial Vocational Technology\u27s innovation and entrepreneurship education programs. The CIPP Evaluation Model was utilised to conduct qualitative research. Data were gathered via structured interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis based on the conceptual framework of Stufflebeam\u27s CIPP evaluation model. The results of the study show that the quality of innovation and entrepreneurship education in higher vocational colleges is generally good; there are sound systems and organizational structures, and the colleges are able to provide adequate resources. Additionally, the curriculum and extracurricular activities of innovation and entrepreneurship education are well-executed, and the higher vocational colleges have received numerous accolades in innovation and entrepreneurship education. However, there is still a need for improvement in class size, teacher development, and the efficiency of extracurricular activities. No full text
Abstract Research related to the lemma that supports pure values ??according to Levelt\u27s Speech Production theory (1999), is less studied by researchers in Malaysia. The findings of previous studies only relate to the analysis of communication according to the output of the outer circle through the principles of Levelt\u27s Theory of Speech Production in 2012. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of studying the achievement of lemma in the revelation of poems of the Minangkabau Malay community. Lemma is a term used by Levelt for lexical. The textual analysis method is used to analyze the Malay Minangkabau poems that have been selected. Minangkabau Malay poems were selected and taken from the collection of poems \u271000 Petahat-Petiti, Mamang-Bidal, Pantun-Gurindam\u27 by H. Idrus Hakimy. The objective of this study is to rework the lemma used in Minangkabau Malay poems that support pure values. The findings of the study found that there are many virtues that are practiced among the Minangkabau Malay community and these virtues are often included in the production of traditional poems. The use of Levelt\u27s 1999 Speech Production Theory is also in line with the needs of the study in studying lemma that supports pure values ??through the revelation of traditional Minangkabau poems. Next, the data was recorded using a recording device when the informant recited the Minangkabau Malay poems that had been selected. Confirmation from informants was also done for some lemmas that the researcher did not understand. The data and analysis of the study are presented in descriptive form. Analysis of the study was also done according to the Outer Circle and Inner Circle aspects according to Levelt\u27s Theory of Speech Production. Therefore, this study found that there is a difference in the phonetic aspect of speech between the Minangkabau Malay dialect and Bahasa Melayu despite the similarities between the two. The results of this research are expected to spark new ideas in the study of the differences in Minangkabau Malay poetry, especially from a linguistic and cultural point of view.
