Empowering remittance management in the digitised landscape: a real-time data-driven decision support with predictive abilities for financial transactions
Open access version availableBlockchain technology (BT) revolutionised remittance transactions recording, banks and remittance institutes have shown growing interest in exploring blockchain's potential advantages over traditional practices. This paper presents a data-driven predictive decision support approach as an innovative artefact designed for blockchain-oriented remittance industry. Employing theory-generating Design Science Research (DSR) approach, the transaction Big Data (BD) driven predictive emerged. The artefact integrates Predictive Analytics (PA) and Machine Learning (ML) to enable real-time transactions monitoring, empowering management decision-makers to address challenges in the uncertain digitized landscape of blockchain-oriented remittance companies. Bridging the gap between theory and the practice, this research safeguards the remittance ecosystem while fostering future predictive decision support solution with its PA advancement in other domains. Additionally, the generation of theory from the artifact's implementation enriches the DSR approach and fosters grounded and stakeholder theory development in the Information Systems (IS) domain.Computing and Information TechnologyHolmesglen InstituteUniversity of NewcastleACIS 2023Wellington, N
Investigating the effects of intraprofessional learning in nursing education: protocol for a longitudinal study.
Open AccessInterprofessional learning (IPL), where nursing students learn how to work with multiple health professionals in their future practice to deliver the highest quality of care, has become an essential feature of undergraduate nursing programs. Intraprofessional learning (IaPL) is where individuals of two or more disciplines within the same profession collaborate; however, there is a dearth of literature investigating its effects in nursing education. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of IaPL on the development of nursing students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes for collaborative practice. The study will utilize a mixed methods approach with surveys conducted at six time points across two years of two nursing programs and focus groups at the end of the program. Participants will be recruited from the Diploma and Bachelor of Nursing programs at an Australian Training and Further Education institute. Four specific IaPL educational experiences incorporating simulation will be developed on aged care, mental health, complex care and acute care. The study will provide nursing students with multiple opportunities to develop the necessary capabilities for collaborative practice. It will longitudinally evaluate nursing students’ attitudes towards IaPL and examine whether IaPL motivates Diploma of Nursing students to pathway into a Bachelor of Nursing degree. The study will also investigate awareness amongst nursing students of the scope of practice, roles and responsibilities of the nursing team.NursingHolmesgle

Collaborative online international learning (COIL): developing intercultural and global health skills for nursing students and faculty
The COVID-19 pandemic has heavily impacted the international healthcare education landscape and has created many challenges for the global healthcare workforce. The value of building and sustaining international connections has never been more important. Collaborative online international learning (COIL) using digital technologies, offers meaningful and rewarding opportunities to develop and sustain international partnerships between nurses from other countries, without economic, organisational, or geographical barriers. In this presentation we will share how we developed a COIL program between a Holmesglen institute in Melbourne, Australia and a Northwestern Polytechnic in Alberta, Canada. We will present three educational interventions that we designed for nursing students including (i) an online virtual community for social connection and the sharing of resources; (ii) five virtual reality immersive simulation scenarios, and (iii) a virtual global classroom to promote collaborative, intercultural learning. For teachers, a virtual community of practice provided a platform for faculty to share education and research ideas and to participate in ongoing collaborate research opportunities. Our COIL program has been highly motivating for students and teachers. They have valued the opportunity to collaborate with a different culture to learn about global health issues, cultural safety for indigenous populations and other perspectives of nursing care. Teachers have enthusiastically engaged in collaborative research teams and are preparing six publications to international journals. We will demonstrate how our experience of COIL has strengthened our international partnership and has provided an evidence-based template for the design and delivery of future COIL partnerships and other international collaborative research projects.NursingHolmesglen InstituteWorld Congress - World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics Congress April 23-25, 2023Montreal, Canad

The impact of noise on nursing preceptors' assessment of student performance: a qualitative study
Online ahead of print.Background:
Noise is a relatively new concept highlighting the variability of cognitive inputs people grapple with when making a judgment. In this case, preceptors make a judgment of students' clinical performance during clinical practicum. There is scant literature examining the impact of noise on nursing student assessment.
Purpose: This article explores the noise that influences nursing preceptors' assessment of students in clinical practice.
Method: A qualitative descriptive design was used, and interviews were conducted with preceptors from the clinical setting.
Results: Three themes were identified, describing the tensions faced by preceptors when assessing students and the noise that impacted those assessments.
Conclusion: Both system noise and individual noise impacted the process and outcome of nursing student assessment during clinical practicum.NursingHolmesglen InstituteMonash Universit
