However, perceptions vary, revealing challenges and opportunities in integrating cultural factors into education. The insights provided by this study underscore the importance of incorporating cultural considerations into educational practices and interventions to enhance student achievement
A Pragmatic Analysis of Translation Techniques in the Subtitles of the Film 'Theeb' / Analisis Pragmatik Teknik Penerjemahan dalam Subtitle Film 'Theeb”
Translation in the context of film media is often influenced by the ideologies of the translators and production companies. This influence can significantly shape how meaning is conveyed to audiences from different cultural backgrounds. This study aims to analyze the translation techniques used in the subtitles of the film "Theeb" through a pragmatic approach to understand how translators handle the intentions behind the film's dialogue. A descriptive qualitative research method is employed to analyze the conversation transcripts from the film. Speech act theory is applied to explore how various translation techniques are used to convey the original intentions of the dialogue accurately. The findings reveal that seven out of the eighteen translation techniques proposed by Albir and Molina are utilized in the film: literal translation, modulation, idiomatic, established equivalent, compensation, and adaptation. This research provides insights into the application of speech act theory in film subtitle translation and identifies effective techniques for accurately conveying speech intentions in different cultural and linguistic contexts. The study underscores the necessity for translators to consider cultural context and ideologies in translation to ensure that the subtitles are both accurate and culturally sensitive. Further research should explore translation techniques in films from diverse cultural backgrounds and examine the impact of translators' cultural backgrounds on their translation choices
Strategies for Developing Public Speaking Skills in Arabic for Students of the Pondok Pesantren Al-Itqon Kendal / إستراتيجيات تطوير مهارة الخطابة العامة باللغة العربية لدى طلبة معهد الإتقان الإسلامي كندال
Pondok Pesantren Al-Itqon Kendal has developed programs to enhance the Arabic public speaking skills of its students, which include three main programs: regular Arabic speech, speech writing (Insya'), and spontaneous speaking practice (Muhadatsah). These programs are designed to enhance students' communication abilities, not only in public speaking but also in building character, self-confidence, and mental preparedness. Through varied tasks, students are given the opportunity to act as emcees, speakers, or keynote speakers, all conducted in Arabic. Additionally, each program is complemented by constructive feedback from supervisors and teachers to improve strengths and weaknesses in speaking. The results show that the program successfully addresses the overcoming public speaking anxiety, improves delivery techniques, and strengthens leadership and social skills. Furthermore, social learning theory and experiential learning provide a strong foundation for this skill development, where observation, imitation, and repeated practice play a key role in enhancing speaking abilities in front of an audience. Overall, this public speaking program contributes significantly to character development and social skills, preparing students to become ambassadors of knowledge and religious values in society
SOREN KIERKEGAARD'S EXISTENTIALISM: A STUDY ON HOW TO ENJOY LIFE DURING THE POST-TRUTH ERA
This study aims to explain the means of deriving enjoyment in life during the post-Truth era by drawing upon the existentialist values of Soren Kierkegaard. A qualitative approach is adopted with a conceptual design, utilizing exploratory, interpretative, and analytical methods. The results showed that individuals were able to derive enjoyment from life during the Post-Truth Era by embracing the following Soren Kierkegaard's existentialism values: Firstly, being oneself; living under the narrative of the heart and mind. Secondly, being moral and adhering to universal rules. Thirdly, living a religious life, having a direct connection with God, and being critical of religion. Previous studies had extensively explored Soren Kierkegaard's existentialism, but none specifically examined its concept as a means of enjoying life
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS THE ROLE OF ISLAMIC AND CONVENTIONAL MICROFINANCE INSTITUTIONS IN SUPPORTING THE WELFARE OF ECONOMICALLY VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES
This study compares the performance of Conventional Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) and Sharia Microfinance Institutions (SMFIs) in supporting the welfare of economically vulnerable communities. The results show that SMFIs have an advantage in terms of social impact and financial inclusion for the poor, while MFIs excel in profitability and business expansion. However, both have different challenges in terms of liquidity stability and financial risk. This study recommends adaptive and inclusive policies, as well as optimizing the potential of social funds such as zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf (ZISWAF) to support the sustainability of MFIs. Future research should further investigate the optimization of ZISWAF social funds in supporting the sustainability of microfinance institutions, analyze adaptive and inclusive policy models for both types of institutions, and evaluate strategies for improving liquidity stability and financial risk management
Mitigating the COVID-19 Induced Learning Loss in Rural Primary Schools: How Do Teachers Prepare English FAL Learners for Self-Directed Learning in the ‘New Normal’?
In the post-pandemic era, the ongoing discourses are centered around finding innovative ways to sustain teaching and learning as well as reversing COVID-19-induced learning loss, especially in critical areas, such as reading in English First Additional Language (FAL). As a contribution to these discourses, the current study explored how teachers prepared rural English FAL learners for self-directed learning to mitigate COVID-19-induced learning loss and to sustain learning in the ‘new normal’. The study followed a qualitative approach and adopted phenomenology as a research design, while the Capability Approach was used for theoretical framing. Three teachers of English FAL in one primary school were conveniently selected to participate in the semi-structured focus-group interviews. A thematic analysis revealed that teachers prepared English FAL learners to use self-directed learning by apprising learners of their active role in learning English FAL, identifying learners’ weaknesses, strengthening the home-school connection, and encouraging collaboration and problem-solving. These findings imply that self-directed learning could be a useful strategy for mitigating COVID-19-induced learning loss and improving reading skills in rural primary schools
Students’ thinking process in solving Pythagoras problems: Piaget’s theory in adversity quotient
Mathematics involves abstract concepts that require more than memorization; it demands a deep-thinking process for true understanding. This study aims to analyze and describe the thinking processes of students in solving problems related to the Pythagorean theorem, using Jean Piaget's theory in the context of Adversity Quotient (AQ). The research design is qualitative, employing a descriptive approach. The participants were 32 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 2 Ngawi, East Java province, Indonesia in the 2022/2023 academic year, categorized into three AQ groups: quitters, campers, and climbers. Data collection methods included the Adversity Response Profile (ARP) questionnaire, think-aloud tests, and interviews. The data were analyzed following Miles and Huberman’s model, which involves data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate: (1) Quitters displayed both assimilation and accommodation in understanding and planning problem-solving strategies, but relied on assimilation during problem-solving and review; (2) Campers primarily engaged in assimilation throughout understanding, planning, solving, and reviewing; (3) Climbers used assimilation for understanding, planning, and reviewing, but employed both assimilation and accommodation during problem-solving execution. These findings suggest that students' AQ levels influence their cognitive processes in mathematics problem-solving, with higher AQ individuals demonstrating greater flexibility in their thinking. This has implications for educators seeking to tailor instructional approaches to students' adversity responses, enhancing both cognitive development and resilience in learning
