This study aims to analyze the spatial configuration of nine Muslim noble cemeteries in Lombok, which are divided into separate areas called jirats and cemeteries, where individuals and communities are buried. Spatial archaeology approaches are employed to collect, process, analyze, and interpret data. The study revealed that the Lombok cemetery consisted of headstones, jirat, a pavilion, a fence, a gate, and trees, all of which formed a cohesive cultural area and followed Islamic customs. In Lombok, the jirat is a boundary that separates personal and communal areas designated for the deceased. These areas are determined based on lineage and the level of nobility. Most Muslim noble cemeteries in Lombok exhibit the influence of pre-Islamic and Hindu customs. The northern, north-eastern, and eastern sections of the cemetery hold the highest level of sanctity, reserved for the interment of the most distinguished individuals. The highlands were selected as the primary site for the burial of Muslim nobles in Lombok due to their association with sanctity and the elevation of the deceased's status

This study investigates substantial shifts in the rational paradigm and political identities in the Kaliwungu Industrial Area. Complexity, characterized by shifting values and emerging global identities, has co-opted the mode of existence of communities in sophisticated industrial countries. The dilemma between preserving local customs and the demands of globalization presents a distinct challenge. This study takes a qualitative approach, collecting data through approaches such as in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and critical analysis. Data sources are purposefully chosen from various strata of industrial society in order to acquire a comprehensive understanding. The investigation validates intriguing facts about Kaliwungu society. Based on the diffusion perspective, the result shows thatthere is a trend toward higher spiritual ideals in deciding societal positions, including political decisions. This plainly rules out the possibility of an exponential link between hedonism and industrialization. Furthermore, population movement from different origins to a given location is difficult, necessitating social harmonization and integration processes. Similarly, spiritual ideals, mental patterns, and social attitudes interact and change as a logical result of everyday exposure to modern values

    Get PDF
Humans were created with a perfect soul, mind and intellect. But he often forgets the purpose of his creation. As a mirror of the Divine, humans can achieve Divine self-awareness, as the Prophet Muhammad said, ‘Whoever knows himself will know his Lord.’ According to Ibn ‘Arabī, humans who know their God are called insān kāmil, and insān kāmil recognised by God is called insān rabbānī. This article examines the steps and ways towards insān rabbānī according to Ibn ‘Arabī, and analyses the symbols and their meanings based on Charles S. Pierce's semiotic theory. The analysis is descriptive-explanatory based on content analysis. Initially, semiotic was only used in the empirical realm. It becomes interesting when semiotics is applied to the metaphysical realm; an attempt to think logically, philosophically, reflectively, and contextually in looking at Sufism in Indonesia. This article shows that the steps and ways to reach insān rabbānī; such as taubah, murāqabah, and ikhlāṣ, to reach waḥdah al-wujūd and musyāhadah. The symbol of insān rabbānī is depicted through the concept of waḥdah al-wujūd in a triadic process; that humans are the manifestation of God, the form of insān rabbānī is manifested in Rasūl, Prophet, Walī, and Waraṡah al-Anbiyā’, who act as caliphs of Allāh. With God’s adab and authority, insān rabbānī guides humans towards Divine self-awareness

    Get PDF
Several public figures have controversies, so the public responds negatively. On the other hand, an Islamic communication perspective is necessary to analyze this phenomenon. Therefore, this research aimed to uncover the dynamics and oxymora cancel culture in virtual media in Indonesia, especially in the context of Islamic communication. Using a netnography approach, this study analyses various cases involving public figures such as Ahmad Dhani, Luna Maya, Gisel Anastasya, Rizki Billar, Tuan Guru Mizan Qudsiyah, and Panji Gumilang on the YouTube platform. The study results show that cancel culture in Indonesia reflects social complexity, where religious values face modern demands for social justice. On the one hand, cancel culture functions as a social control mechanism to maintain religious norms and public ethics, providing a role for society in correcting behavior that is considered deviant. On the other hand, this phenomenon risks creating an intolerant environment, limiting the space for forgiveness and improvement, and potentially violating the principles of compassion and justice in Islam. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of Islamic communication in responding to the phenomenon of cancel culture, emphasizing the importance of a wise and contextual approach in integrating religious values and the demands of modernity in the digital space

    Get PDF
Matchmaking traditions in Indonesia are always interesting to research, especially matchmaking to someone who is still underage, of course, this tradition raises social problems which, if confronted with the law, will generate debate. For example, the mamppasiala tradition often ignores the rights of prospective male and female brides in the practice of underage marriage. This research aims to reveal the practices, implications, and perspectives of maqasid syari'ah regarding the mappasiala tradition in underage marriage among the Bugis community of Southeast Sulawesi. This research is qualitative research with an empirical-normative approach which includes interviews with traditional actors, traditional leaders, community leaders, and religious leaders. The research results reveal that the practice of the mappasiala tradition goes through three stages; mappasiruntu pattujung, mappasicelleng, and mappakado wija. The mappasiala tradition has double implications (positive and negative) for underage marriage. Maqasid syari'ah views that the mappasiala tradition tends not to achieve the goals of marriage specifically and the goals of Islamic law in general. Therefore, ijtihad regarding the law on matchmaking and underage marriage is very necessary to meet the legal needs of contemporary society. Thus, it is hoped that this research can make a global contribution to developing the study of traditions, customs, and culture

Efforts and Obstacles of the Banda Aceh Government in the Development of Child-Friendly City Policies

    Get PDF
The City of Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh Province, has been committed to developing a Child-Friendly City Policy since 2013. However, to date, the City of Banda Aceh has still not achieved Child-Friendly City status, as evidenced by the absence of an increase in ranking in 2023 compared to the previous year. This city continued to maintain its Nindya level by the assessment in 2022. This research aims to identify efforts and inhibiting factors in developing Child-Friendly City policies, especially in the institutional cluster aspect. Using Institutional Development Theory by Milton J. Esman (1967), this research applies qualitative methods. Research findings show that Banda Aceh has not achieved Child-Friendly City status because the institutional indicators of a Child-Friendly City are not yet optimal, resulting in the fulfillment of children’s rights not being implemented comprehensively. The obstacles that cause Banda Aceh not to achieve this status involve limited budget resources, the absence of a Regional Action Plan, a lack of understanding of human resources regarding policies, minimal involvement from the business world, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Suggestions include: (i) Evaluate budget resource allocation for KLA, (ii) Immediately develop RAD-KAL as a guide for program implementation, (iii) Increase understanding of human resources through training, (iv) Encourage formal collaboration with the business world, (v) Designing an adaptive strategy for the disruptive impact of the pandemic for KLA.
