Determinants of Switching Intention: Empirical Evidence from Sharia Bank Mergers in Indonesia

    Get PDF
This study examines the factors that affect customers switching intention after three state-owned Indonesian banks merge. The risk of losing customers in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is very high because during the integration phase, management often focuses on internal issues, leaving aside important customer-related tasks. Therefore, a deeper understanding of the concept of M&A in the disciplines of marketing and consumer behavior is clearly needed for the benefit of academic knowledge and marketing practice. A total of one hundred and fifty respondents are selected using the quantitative method as sources of data collection. The questionnaires are distributed using a purposive sampling method in Surakarta, Indonesia. The software used for analysis is SEM-PLS. The results of this study state that inconvenience and religious motivation influence customer switching intentions. However, attitude and availability of suitable banks as a moderating variable did not influence customer switching intentions

Does Religiosity Mediate Gen Z’s Cosmetic Product Purchase Decisions?

    Get PDF
The size of the Gen Z segmentation, which reaches a range of 40 per cent in 2045 and the tendency to consume halal products, and the role of religiosity are interesting studies to be studied. With regard to this, the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) model is needed to see and analyse the credibility of the influncer and the role of religiosity in mediating the decision to purchase cosmetic products. This study was conducted with a quantitative approach of SemPLS method, with 100 respondents, most of whom are gen Z. This study found that the model obtained was valid, but the position of religiosity did not mediate the credibility of endorsers, popularity, and business ethics on purchasing decisions for cosmetic products. This is considered reasonable, considering that consumers use more rationality in deciding their purchases. In addition, the popularity, attractiveness, and credibility of endorsers increase the decision to purchase cosmetic products. Of course, in accordance with the findings, valuable input can be provided, especially in the halal beauty industry to continue to educate with improved marketing strategies and contribute to the theoretical literature of management and marketing science

The Impact of Electronic Customer Relationship Management and Quality Moderated by Sharia Compliance on Loyalty: Study on Islamic banks in Jakarta

    No full text
In the rapidly digitizing landscape of Islamic banking, innovation is imperative for competitiveness and delivering top-tier services to customers. Electronic Customer Relationship Management (E-CRM) emerges as a key solution, streamlining interactions between banks and customers in the digital realm. This study delves into how E-CRM and Service Quality affect Customer Loyalty within Islamic banks, with a focus on Shariah Compliance as a moderating factor. The aim is to decipher how the Islamic banking sector can cultivate and enhance customer relationships in the digital age. Employing a quantitative approach, the research collects survey data from 212 Islamic bank customers through random sampling. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), executed using IBM AMOS V.22 software, scrutinizes the collected data. Findings indicate a significant, positive contribution of E-CRM to Customer Loyalty. Interestingly, Service Quality doesn't wield a significant influence on Customer Loyalty, suggesting the presence of other influential factors in the Islamic banking arena. Notably, Shariah Compliance emerges as an important moderating element, bolstering the connection between Service Quality and Customer Loyalty, though it doesn't moderate the impact of E-CRM on Customer Loyalty

    Get PDF
This study examines the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the performance and stability of Indonesia's dual banking system. Our sample includes the top 20 banks by assets, both conventional and sharia, from 2018 Q1 to 2023 Q3. Data for conventional banks is obtained from Bloomberg, while data for Islamic banks is sourced from each bank's official website. We use ROA, ROE, and NIM as performance variables and Z-Score and NPL as stability variables. External factors such as GDP, Inflation, BI Rate, and Exchange Rate serve as independent variables, while bank-specific variables act as controls. Panel data regression is used to determine causal relationships between these factors and banking performance and stability. We also compare bank performance and stability before and after COVID-19 using the Mann-Whitney Test. Findings indicate that the pandemic significantly affected conventional banks' Z-Score, NPL, ROA, ROE, and NIM, while only NPL was significantly affected in sharia banks. The results highlight the significant impact of GDP, exchange rate, and BI Rate on banking variables, while inflation had no effect. The type of bank significantly influences performance but not stability

    No full text
This study examines the interplay between inflation, investment, unemployment, and poverty and their collective impact on sustainable economic growth within the ASEAN region over the period from 2018 to 2022. Employing a quantitative approach with panel data analysis, the research focuses on five developing ASEAN countries. The analysis reveals that both inflation and unemployment significantly influence sustainable economic growth, while investment and poverty also play critical roles in shaping economic outcomes. From an Islamic economic perspective, the findings highlight the necessity of balancing material growth with spiritual values, environmental stewardship, justice, ethics, and community empowerment. This study underscores that economic growth should not only focus on immediate gains but must also prioritize long-term sustainability, ensuring that development benefits both current and future generations. The implications of this research offer valuable insights for policymakers in developing holistic strategies that align with Islamic economic principles, promoting equitable and sustainable growth

VOICING LIBERATION OF WOMEN: QASIM AMIN AND ASMA BARLAS

    Get PDF
Does Islam advocate inequality? This question has been a concern of Muslim scholars in recent centuries, notably Qasim Amin and Asma Barlas. Hence, this paper aims to make a comparative study of Amin and Barlas’s thoughts on the liberation of women. The data will be analyzed through a descriptive-analytic approach. The analysis finds that Amin and Barlas have similarities and differences in voicing women's freedom. They criticize and reconstruct some concepts considered established within the Islamic tradition, such as hijāb and polygamy. They firmly oppose the established idea of hijab, which means covering women's entire bodies except for their eyes, which is contrary to Islamic teaching. They disagree, however, on which a hijab should cover parts of a woman's body. Furthermore, Amin broadens the definition of hijāb, which restricts women's movements (qasr al-mar’ah fī al-bait). In terms of polygamy, however, they critically assessed the classical understanding of the permissibility of polygamy. Therefore, they impose strict conditions on the permissibility of polygamy. Nevertheless, Amin seems to advocate that polygamy is not permissible. Amin and Barlas were inspired to reform Muslim society, specifically women's liberation, by their social context and experiences. Despite their good intentions, their ideas have received both criticism and praise. This mixed reception emphasizes the continuous struggle in the Muslim world about gender, tradition, and modernization

    Get PDF
This study aims to understand the communication strategies of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in overcoming culture shock while working in Japan. The research utilizes Anxiety Uncertainty Management Theory (AUM Theory) developed by Gudykunst to explain how PMI manage uncertainty and anxiety in cross-cultural communication. The AUM theory is elaborated with the concept of ABC's of Culture Shock by Ward  Bochner and Furham to gain a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between cross-cultural communication and culture shock. The research method used is phenomenology. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with six PMI informants who have been working for at least two years in various companies in Japan. The results of the study show that PMI experience various forms of anxiety, including language anxiety, habit-related anxiety, and mindset-related anxiety. Workers manage this anxiety through three strategies: active, passive, and interactive. The active strategy involves continuously adapting to and appreciating Japanese culture. Firstly, the active strategy means that PMI actively seek information about Japanese culture through social media and study it. Secondly, the passive strategy involves self-motivation by understanding that the cultural surprises experienced are a consequence of their work. Lastly, the interactive strategy involves efforts to improve intercultural communication skills by joining Indonesian expatriate communities in Japan and being open to new values encountered while working in Japan

Menakar Pencatatan Perkawinan di Indonesia Perspektif Kaidah Fiqhiyyah: Antara Legalitas Negara dan Keabsahan Syariah

    Get PDF
This research examines marriage registration in Indonesia through the lens of fiqhiyyah principles, exploring its role in determining marriage validity. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, this library-based study draws data from various sources, including books, journals, scholarly works, the Qur'an, hadith, dictionaries, encyclopedias, laws, court decisions, and other available documents. The findings reveal two primary perspectives on marriage registration: one views it as a non-essential administrative step that serves merely as evidence of marriage, while the other sees it as an additional requirement for marriage validity. Despite these differing opinions, fiqhiyyah principles emphasize that marriage registration, although not a determinant of validity, is a legal obligation that all Indonesians must observe. This requirement is grounded in the principles of promoting welfare and preventing harm. Thus, marriage registration serves as a means to support these goals, ensuring that state legality and sharia validity align to fulfill the objectives of marriage
