    Get PDF
The study of meaning, in philosophy and psychology, is important to reveal the influences on individual well-being, including optimism. This systematic literature review examined various factors, such as social media, family environment, education, and personal experiences, influencing Generation Z's perception of the meaning of life and their optimism. The researcher employed the PRISMA model to select articles included in the study. Age, gender, and spirituality are influential factors in the search for meaning in life. Age influences a person's search for life's meaning and their optimism. Gender also plays an important role; women tend to discover meaning in life through family roles and social relationships, while men tend to find meaning through achievement and independence. Spirituality, such as religious practices and spiritual beliefs, offers individuals a framework to discover the meaning of life and remain optimistic, especially through the social support of the spiritual community

    Get PDF
Although previous studies have investigated factors contributing to compulsive shopping, the specific role of alexithymia and its influence on emotion regulation in predicting this behavior remains underexplored. The study explored the link between alexithymia and compulsive shopping in young adults, focusing on whether emotion regulation difficulties predict problematic shopping behavior. A sample of 220 Italian young adults was assessed using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) and the Shopping Behaviour Scale (SBS). Multiple regression analysis revealed that alexithymia's three dimensions explained 4.8% of the variance in compulsive shopping (F=3.657; p=0.013). Externally oriented thinking was the only significant predictor, while difficulty identifying and describing feelings were not. The findings suggest that individuals more focused on external realities are at higher risk for compulsive shopping. Improving emotional awareness and regulation may help reduce this behavior in young adults

A lack of interest in reading causes a lack of understanding of the content of the reading text. This research aims to determine the relationship between interest in reading and the ability to solve math story problems. This research uses quantitative correlational. The population used was 198 class V students in Gatak District, with a sample of 126 students. The sampling technique uses cluster random sampling. The instruments used in data collection were essay tests to measure the ability to solve mathematical problems and questionnaires to measure interest in reading. The data analysis technique used in this research is product-moment correlation. The results showed that interest in reading was in the moderate category for 69 students, or around 55% of 126 students, while students' ability to solve math story problems was in the medium category for 71 students, or around 56% of 126 students. A sig value was obtained based on hypothesis test calculations using SPSS 23. 0.000 < 0.05, then there is a correlation between variables showing a positive relationship between interest in reading and students' ability to solve math story problems. Schools are expected to improve students' abilities in solving mathematical story problems through motivation and habituation to increase interest in readin

This linguistic research adopted a descriptive qualitative approach that focuses on the syntactic structure of sarcasm expressions. The data for this study were collected from the popular television series Friends, which focused on the character Chandler Bing. Bing was one of the most known characters among various sitcom series with iconic sarcasm. This study aimed to identify the complexity of the syntactic functional structures including adjuncts, specifiers, and complements. Employing the x-bar theory for analysis, the study categorized the collected data into complex adjuncts, complex specifiers, and complex complements, accompanied by their respective x-bar schemas and thorough explanations. The results showed that Bing's sarcastic expressions exhibit complexity across a variety of functional structures with the various word categories as the construction. The most common complex form was identified in the complement structure. This study contributed to a nuanced understanding of syntactic aspects of sarcasm, especially within the linguistic framework of his x-bar theory

INEQUALITY EXPERIENCED BY WOMEN AS REFLECTED IN LOUISA MAY ALCOTT’S 'LITTLE WOMEN'

    Get PDF
This study explores women's roles and societal expectations in the 19th century, mainly as portrayed in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. The analysis focuses on three main areas: family, education, and societal roles. In family life, women were largely confined to domestic roles, with ideals such as ‘the angel in the house’, which glorified self-sacrificial wives and mothers. Jo March, the main character in the novel, however, challenges this norm by assuming the responsibilities of the ‘man of the family’ in her father’s absence. In education, women’s access was limited, reflecting broader inequalities. Mrs. March, or Marmee, becomes a pivotal moral teacher to her daughters, instilling values that transcend material wealth. Despite societal constraints, Jo and her sisters navigate personal and financial challenges, with Jo ultimately breaking traditional gender norms by pursuing a career as a writer. This study further reveals how women’s opportunities were shaped by class and how marriage was often seen as the only path to social mobility. Overall, this paper highlights how Little Women reflects the limitations and opportunities for women in the 19th century, challenging prevailing gender stereotypes through its portrayal of women’s independence, ambition, and resilience

Islamic Hospitality and the Fight Against Islamophobia: The Essential Role of Sharia-Compliant Hotels

    Get PDF
The escalating Israel-Palestine conflict triggered a surge in Islamophobia and hate crimes against Muslims worldwide. As part of the Islamic hospitality industry, Sharia-compliant hotels played a crucial role in promoting the values of Islamic hospitality to non-Muslim tourists, with the aim of reducing Islamophobia. Utilizing a literature review approach, this research aims to answer two main questions, 1) how Islamophobia affects the Muslim community in general, and 2) how Islamic hospitality values in Sharia-compliant hotels play an important role in reducing Islamophobia. The study identified that Sharia-compliant hotels had at least four promotable products and services, namely halal food products, the prohibition of alcoholic beverages, protection for female and child tourists, and religion-based preference room services. Practically, this research provides references to Sharia-compliant hotel managers regarding Islamic hospitality values that can be promoted to attract non-Muslim tourists. Effective promotion of the values of Islamic hospitality could significantly contribute to mitigating Islamophobia and its negative impacts, including the rise in hate crimes. In the future, scholars and Islamic researchers needed to engage in more comprehensive research to formulate strategies that captured the hearts of non-Muslim tourists and countered Islamophobia
