Empowering functional skills through digital literacy and ICT self-efficacy: Evidence from rural Islamic secondary schools in Pakistan
In response to the evolving demands of 21st-century education, the cultivation of digital competencies among teachers is critical to enhancing instructional quality and student learning outcomes. Despite growing recognition of the importance of digital literacy and ICT self-efficacy, empirical investigations into their impact on functional skills, such as communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving, remain limited, particularly within rural Islamic secondary schools in Pakistan. This study explores the extent to which digital literacy and ICT self-efficacy predict the development of functional skills among teachers in Kot Addu South, Pakistan. Employing a quantitative survey design, data were collected from 440 Islamic secondary school teachers using a structured questionnaire. Reliability and validity were ensured through expert review and pilot testing, and data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and t-test regression via SPSS. Findings reveal moderate digital tool utilization among participants, yet those with higher levels of digital literacy and ICT self-efficacy demonstrated significantly greater proficiency in functional skills. Positive and statistically significant correlations were observed between digital literacy and all three domains of functional skills. Although gender-based variations were minimal, both male and female teachers benefitted from enhanced digital capabilities. These results emphasize the strategic importance of fostering digital literacy and ICT self-efficacy through targeted training programs. The study provides valuable insights for educational policymakers, school leaders, and professional development designers to elevate teacher effectiveness and bridge digital inequities in under-resourced educational environments
The idea of ‘flipped curricula’ and letting students design their own classes: Learning from United Kingdom and Indonesian forest schools
The present study explores the dynamic interplay between compulsory and self-directed curricula within the unique context of “open schools,” with a particular focus on comparative cases from England and Indonesia. It aims to investigate how these schools, often referred to as jungle or nature schools, navigate the challenges of national curriculum mandates while promoting educational autonomy, inclusivity, and student-centered learning. Employing a qualitative comparative case study design, the research draws on data collected through semi-structured interviews with principals, teachers, and parents, direct classroom observations, and document analysis across six selected schools (three in each country). The findings reveal that these schools employ flexible, innovative curriculum strategies, ranging from full autonomy to hybrid compliance, while integrating nature-based and experiential learning, community governance, and culturally responsive practices. Their responses to national curriculum frameworks vary from strategic adaptation to implicit negotiation or radical autonomy. The study concludes that open schools can offer transformative models of inclusive and holistic education that prioritize developmental needs over uniform standards. Theoretically, the study contributes to debates on curriculum autonomy and inclusive education; practically, it offers insights for educators and policymakers seeking alternatives to one-size-fits-all curricula. While the study is limited to a small sample and qualitative scope, it opens avenues for further research into replicating adaptive curriculum models in diverse global contexts
PREPOSITIONAL INCORPORATION IN TOBA BATAKNESE LANGUAGE
The purpose of this study is to describe the process of combining prepositions, the rules of combining prepositions, and the forms of prepositions in the Toba Bataknese language. This study used a descriptive-qualitative method whose data are in the forms of texts. The techniques for data analysis include removal, replacement, insertion of reversals, and changes occurrence. The results; of this study; indicate that; the combination of prepositions in Toba Bataknese language can be seen from the movement of prepositions in verbs. The emergence of the suffixes -i and -hon in verbs has changed the argument structure of intransitive verbs into transitive verbs. Likewise, transitive verbs change into ditransitive verbs. The changes in the structure of the verb arguments consist of (1) Subj - V (intr) - Obl à Subj - V (tr) - Obj; (2) Subj - V (tr) - Obj - Obl à Subj - V (dtr) - Obj - Cho. The prepositional forms combined with Toba Bataknese verbs can be divided into two types, namely (1) prepositional forms that change into the suffix -i and (2) prepositional forms that change into the suffix -hon. The prepositional forms that change into the suffix -i in the birth structure are di (in) and tu (to), while the prepositional forms that change into the suffix -hon are tu (to/for) and sian (from)
A Qur'anic View on Overcoming the Modern Muslim Identity Crisis: Syahrur's Naẓariyyah al-Ḥudūd Theory as a Dynamic Hermeneutical Paradigm
The modern Muslim identity crisis, marked by tensions between traditional religious values and the demands of modernity such as democracy and gender equality, is further exacerbated by globalization and digitalization. This study aims to examine Muhammad Syahrur’s Naẓariyyah al-Ḥudūd theory as a dynamic hermeneutical paradigm to address Muslim identity dissonance. The methodology combines Qur’anic textual analysis, ethnographic fieldwork in Islamic boarding schools, and comparative case studies of contextualized curricula in Morocco and Indonesia. The findings reveal that the concept of limit (ḥudūd) enables adaptive reinterpretations of inheritance and polygamy laws based on sharia goal (maqāṣid al-syarīah), redefines the principles of taqwā (guarding from sin by obedience) and fiṭrah (nature of origin) as foundations for inclusive Muslim identity, and demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating Qur’anic values into religious education, with 70% of students successfully merging religious and national identities. The scholarly contribution lies in reconciling the textualist-contextualist divide, expanding the application of maqāṣid al-syarīah to contemporary issues, and offering a transformative education model grounded in dynamic hermeneutics that is highly relevant to modern global challenges

Method: Econometric panel data analysis is utilized for this research after necessary tests are used. The research data is taken from the World Bank and Islamic Financial Services Board web page.
Results: According to research results, a %1 augmentation in political stability causes a 0.0518 increase in Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), a %1 rise in regulator quality causes a 0.0416 increase in Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), a %1 increase in Capital to Asset Ratio causes to 0.708 increase in CAR (index). According to the research model, ROE, Control of Corruption, Government Effectiveness, and Political stability do not in a significant statistical relationship with Capital Adequacy Ratio.
Implication: The findings of this study suggest that there can be interpretation differences between conventional banks and their Islamic counterparts regarding banking financial management. In the regulative dimension, the existence and efforts of Basel regulations and the Islamic Financial Services Board develop in parallel with this context on the subject of CAR and other important dimensions of Islamic Banks.
Originality: This paper contributes to Islamic finance literature by integrating governance and leverage variables into a unified model for assessing CAR
Exploring fraud vulnerabilities in public sector promotions: An analysis through the lens of fraud hexagon theory and maqashid al-shari'ah
This research delves into gratification fraud in the Pemalang Regency Government's job auction process, employing the Fraud Hexagon Theory and the Maqoshid Syariah concept. The study aims to uncover triggers for gratification and assess its alignment with Islamic principles, ultimately contributing to more effective fraud prevention. Using a qualitative method with a case study approach, data was gathered through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document reviews. The Fraud Hexagon theory identified key elements driving fraudulent acts, while Maqoshid Syariah served as an evaluative framework against Islamic values. Findings reveal that gratification in Pemalang's job auctions stems from factors like external pressure, opportunities, rationalization, and individual capabilities. From a Maqoshid Syariah perspective, such gratifications are deemed detrimental, deviating from principles of justice and benefit. The study suggests that applying sharia principles can strengthen monitoring and prevent future gratification. Theoretically, this research advances fraud detection models by integrating Fraud Hexagon and Maqoshid Syariah, an underexplored area. Practically, it offers actionable policy insights for local governments and anti-corruption bodies to reform job auction systems with an ethical and Islamic approac
“Japa’’ syndrome: Mediating role of organizational climate on psychological contract breach and turnover intention
In Nigeria, the continuous exodus of health workers, known as ’Japa’, and the intention of many to leave their current jobs is worrisome and needs urgent attention. This study investigated the role of psychological contract breach on turnover intention. The study also further examined the mediating role of organizational climate in the relationship between psychological contract breach and turnover intention among health workers. The study adopted a cross-sectional study with a total of 146 health workers aged 20-59 years (male=29.5%, female=70.5%; M age=34.80). The study found that psychological contract breach has a positive correlation with turnover intention, but the correlation is negative with organizational climate. Organizational climate was also found to have a negative relationship with turnover intention, while organizational climate partially mediates the positive relationship between psychological contract breach and turnover intention. The study concluded that psychological contract breach fuels turnover intention, while organizational climate serves as a buffer between psychological contract breach and turnover intention. Therefore, efforts promoting a favorable organizational culture can help improve and sustain employees' psychological agreements, which may help reduce turnover intention among health workers
