THE DIALECTIC OF GENDER AND RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY: THE CONSTRUCTION OF DISCOURSE ON WOMEN IN NING IMAZ'S DIGITAL DA'WAH
Get PDFPrevious research on gender discourse in digital da'wah has not thoroughly analysed the mechanisms of gender discourse construction through a sophisticated critical discourse analysis approach on digital platforms. This study analyses the construction of women's discourse in Ning Imaz's digital da'wah on YouTube NU Online using Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis model on five da'wah videos from the 2022-2023 period. The findings reveal that Ning Imaz successfully builds personal religious authority through digital platforms, transforming the authority mechanism from a hierarchical-institutional model to a participatory-digital one. However, this discourse construction operates within the ‘Digital Islamic Feminism Paradox’—a fundamental dialectic between the empowerment and restriction of women through the naturalisation of the concept of ‘fitrah’ that legitimises gender hierarchy and the redefinition of terminology from “equality” to ‘gender justice.’ The transformation of digital religious authority does not result in radical gender emancipation but creates a space for negotiation that allows women to build influence while operating within theological boundaries. The implications are that female preachers need to develop more emancipatory discursive strategies, religious institutions must integrate critical gender perspectives, and audiences need to develop critical literacy for more progressive participation in the construction of contemporary religious meaning
SYMBOLISM AND METAPHORS IN DIAN PURNOMO'S NOVEL 'PEREMPUAN YANG MENANGIS KEPADA BULAN HITAM'
Get PDFLiterary texts often serve as spaces for ideological articulation conveyed through language and symbols. In the context of Indonesian literature, the novel Perempuan yang Menangis kepada Bulan Hitam, written by Dian Purnomo, presents a powerful narrative addressing gender inequality and the persistence of patriarchal culture. This qualitative library study aimed to analyze the symbolic and metaphorical expressions in the novel using Michael Riffaterre’s semiotic theory. Through heuristic and hermeneutic reading stages, along with hypogram tracing, this study reveals how the novel implicitly yet sharply voices resistance against patriarchal domination. The analysis results indicate that symbols such as ‘red pool’, ‘curse’, and ‘ancestral sin’ as well as metaphors like ‘tiger’s cage’ and ‘the price of freedom’, function not merely as aesthetic ornaments but as ideological devices exposing systemic violence, social taboos, and cultural repression of women. The semiotic reading demonstrates that the novel’s symbols and metaphors construct a narrative of resistance that disrupts the dominant cultural hypogram. Thus, literature can serve as a medium for critical awareness and as a means of conveying socio-political critiques against gender-based injustice
The Influence of Macroeconomic Factors on Murabahah Financing Performance at Bank Syariah Indonesia
Get PDFPurpose: This study aims to examine the impact of macroeconomic variables—namely inflation, the BI rate, and the exchange rate—on murabahah financing at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), both in the short and long term.
Method: Employing the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), the study analyzes time-series data to assess long-run equilibrium and short-term dynamics.
Results: The findings reveal that in the long term, inflation and the BI rate negatively affect murabahah financing, while the exchange rate exerts a positive influence. In contrast, none of the variables show significant short-term effects. The Granger causality test identifies bidirectional relationships between the BI rate and both financing and inflation. Variance Decomposition shows that while financing is initially self-driven, over time inflation emerges as the most influential factor, accounting for 16.74% of variation in murabahah financing.
Implication: These results suggest that Bank Syariah Indonesia should develop adaptive financing strategies in response to macroeconomic fluctuations, particularly inflation.
Originality: This study contributes to Islamic finance literature by applying a dynamic econometric framework (VECM) to murabahah financing, and by offering empirical evidence from the post-merger period of Indonesia's largest Islamic bank
Multi-Level Factors and Burnout : The Mediating Role of Perception on Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA)
Get PDFTeacher performance and burnout are critical to maintaining educational quality, and they are often affected by psychological and social factors. This study examines the impact of self-esteem, team cohesiveness, and psychological safety climate on employee performance and burnout, with the perception of Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) as a mediating factor. A quantitative approach was employed, surveying 201 public high school teachers in Bogor Regency, West Java, Indonesia. Data were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM-PLS) to explore direct and indirect relationships between variables. The findings indicate that team cohesiveness and psychological safety climate significantly enhance the perception of TPA, improving employee performance and reducing burnout. Additionally, self-esteem has a direct positive effect on performance. However, no significant relationship was found between self-esteem and perception of TPA, nor between psychological safety climate and burnout, suggesting the presence of contextual moderating factors. This study contributes to the understanding of multi-level factors affecting teacher performance and burnout, emphasising the importance of fostering a supportive work environment. Practical implications include recommendations for educational institutions to strengthen team collaboration, enhance psychological security, and ensure fair and transparent performance assessments to improve teacher effectiveness and overall educational quality

Employing a qualitative descriptive design with textual analysis as the core method, the research examines six news articles—three from each outlet—selected to represent the respective editorial and reporting styles. The analysis operates at the message level, focusing on media texts as sites of ideological construction in the context of constitutional discourse. Findings reveal that Kompas.com predominantly emphasizes legal-formal dimensions and institutional stability, whereas CNNIndonesia foregrounds critical responses from academics and civil society concerning the broader implications of the policy
Reinterpreting Kafā’ah: The Interaction of Islamic Legal Norms and Social Realities in Contemporary Indonesian Marriage Practices.
Get PDFThis study examines the concept of kafā’ah (compatibility) in marital partner selection within the Indonesian context, focusing on the interaction between Islamic legal norms and evolving social realities. Although classical Islamic jurisprudence emphasizes religious and moral compatibility as primary criteria, contemporary marriage practices in Indonesia increasingly incorporate social variables such as education, economic status, and family background. Using a qualitative descriptive approach through literature review and document analysis, this research analyzes classical fiqh texts, the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI), and empirical studies on marriage practices across different cultural settings in Indonesia. The findings reveal that kafā’ah remains relevant as a principle for ensuring marital harmony; however, its interpretation has shifted from lineage and socio-economic status toward shared values, emotional maturity, and religious commitment. The study also indicates a gap between normative legal frameworks and practical social considerations, influenced by cultural dynamics and modernization. This research contributes to contemporary Islamic family law discourse by highlighting the need for a contextual reinterpretation of kafā’ah that prioritizes ethical and spiritual dimensions over hierarchical social classifications
The impact of AI-based gamification on student engagement in English writing course
Get PDFActive student engagement is a cornerstone of effective pedagogy in writing instruction, yet it remains a significant challenge for educators. This study systematically evaluates the impact of an AI-driven gamification model designed to enhance student participation and motivation. Using a quasi-experimental, mixed-methods design, 50 students were assigned to either an experimental group (n=25) engaging with AI tools (ProWritingAid, Quizizz) or a control group (n=25). The intervention's effects were assessed using validated learning engagement scales and in-depth qualitative interviews. The findings indicate a statistically significant increase in learning engagement for the experimental group, a result attributed to the immediate, personalized feedback and structured, low-stakes practice facilitated by the AI tools. This quantitative outcome was corroborated by qualitative data; thematic analysis revealed overwhelmingly positive student perceptions, with participants citing heightened motivation, reduced writing apprehension, and a greater sense of agency. Students specifically valued the non-judgmental feedback from AI and the competitive yet collaborative nature of the gamified tasks. The implications of this study are twofold. Practically, it offers a replicable pedagogical model for educators seeking to transform passive writing classrooms into active, technology-enhanced learning spaces. Theoretically, it contributes to the literature at the intersection of applied AI and composition pedagogy by demonstrating how gamification principles can be powerfully augmented by AI to address long-standing engagement challenges. This research thus provides a compelling blueprint for designing more effective, student-centered writing curricula in the digital age
Digital media and artificial intelligence in teaching Bahasa Indonesia: Realities, potentials, and challenges
Get PDFThe ongoing digital transformation presents significant opportunities for language education, yet its pedagogical effectiveness in Bahasa Indonesia instruction remains largely underexplored. While digital media is prevalent in Indonesian classrooms, robust research examining its actual impact on student learning and alignment with pedagogical goals is notably limited. Furthermore, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bahasa Indonesia learning is still in its nascent, exploratory stage. This qualitative case study investigates the current use of digital media and the perceived potential of AI in the teaching and learning of Bahasa Indonesia at the secondary school level. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis across five Indonesian high schools. Findings reveal that digital media demonstrably enhances student engagement, fosters creativity, and promotes active participation when intentionally aligned with pedagogical objectives. However, its implementation is significantly hindered by persistent challenges such as digital inequality, insufficient teacher readiness, and shallow instructional integration. While AI is not yet formally integrated into Bahasa Indonesia instruction, both teachers and students expressed cautious optimism regarding its potential, particularly in writing support and adaptive learning pathways. This study concludes that successful digital and AI integration in Bahasa Indonesia education necessitates intentional pedagogical design, comprehensive professional development, and robust ethical safeguards. These insights underscore a critical need for targeted policy support and strategic training initiatives to ensure equitable, effective, and sustainable digital innovation in language education, ultimately addressing the identified research gaps and practical challenges
THE INFLUENCE OF CONTENT QUALITY ON WILLINGNESS TO PAY A PREMIUM PRICE FOR VIDEO STREAMING SERVICES: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF BRAND TRUST AMONG VIU USERS IN INDONESIA
Get PDFThis study aims to determine the effect of content quality on willingness to pay a premium price through brand trust among Viu users in Indonesia. This research is quantitative research. The population in this study are users of Viu premium in Indonesia. The number of samples in this study were 119 respondents. The data was processed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Smart Partial Least Square (Smart-PLS) version 4.0 as a statistical program. The results of this study show that, content quality does not directly influence willingness to pay a premium price. Meanwhile, content quality positively and significantly effect on brand trust, which in turn significantly drives consumers' willingness to pay a premium price. This research demonstrates brand trust's crucial mediating role. The implications of this study highlight the importance of a strategic approach for video streaming service providers that not only focuses on content quality but also on building and maintaining brand trust. This can be achieved through marketing strategies that emphasize core brand values, such as transparency, reliability, and a commitment to quality, as a strategy to increase willingness to pay premium price
TRANSFORMATION OF PROPHETIC COMMUNICATION PATTERNS IN THE ERA OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ISLAMIC PREACHING IN INDONESIA

Despite the contradiction between the comprehensive nature of Islamic da’wah (kāffah) and fragmented digital da’wah practices, there is no adequate theoretical framework to bridge the transformation of religious authority when algorithms modify da’wah messages without supervision. The study examines changes in Islamic da’wah practices in the digital era, utilizing artificial intelligence, and employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach. The results reveal seven significant impacts: 1) a shift from spiritual-moral aspects to technology-driven message dissemination; 2) format adaptation following digital trends; 3) social media's influence in expanding access; 4) artificial intelligence contributions in content presentation; 5) challenges in balancing popularity with teaching integrity; 6) ethical issues in religious communication; and 7) the importance of education and supervision. The findings have significant implications for Islamic educational institutions, suggesting an urgent need to develop integrated curricula that equip future religious leaders with both technological competencies and an understanding of prophetic communication ethics in digital contexts, thereby maintaining the integrity of Islamic teachings while engaging contemporary audiences
