There is a scarcity of empirical studies that specifically examine the integration of Hypothetical Inquiry Learning (HIL) in e-modules to enhance students' critical thinking skills, particularly within the context of digital learning. This study aims to develop an e-module based on HIL to improve students' critical thinking abilities and the overall quality of learning in the digital era. The e-module is designed to facilitate students' understanding of complex concepts through an interactive Hypothetical Inquiry-based learning approach. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) model based on Alessi and Trollip's framework, encompassing the Planning, Design, and Development stages. The study involved a population of 160 students, with a sample of 81 students from a senior high school in Sukoharjo regency, Central Java, Indonesia, and 5 validation experts, with validity assessed using the Aiken’s V index. The results of the practicality test demonstrated that the e-module based on HIL is highly practical for use as a digital learning tool, achieving a practicality score of approximately 98.32%. Furthermore, the effectiveness test revealed that the e-module significantly improves students' understanding of concepts and critical thinking skills, with an N-gain score of approximately 95.23%. Thus, the e-module based on Hypothetical Inquiry Learning represent an innovative and highly effective educational resource for enhancing student learning outcomes

Beyond technology adoption: How artificial intelligence and teacher competence shape learning quality in religious education

    No full text
The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIEd) has generated growing expectations for improving learning quality. However, evidence suggests that technological innovation alone is insufficient without adequate teacher competence, particularly in value-based and religious education contexts. This study investigates the effects of Artificial Intelligence in Education and teacher competence on learning quality in Buddhist Religious Education schools in Lampung Province, Indonesia, an underrepresented educational setting characterized by limited institutional resources and digital infrastructure. Employing a quantitative survey design, data were collected through validated questionnaires administered to all 76 Buddhist school teachers in the province using a census sampling technique. Multiple linear regression analysis was applied to examine both partial and simultaneous relationships among Artificial Intelligence, teacher competence, and learning quality. The findings indicate that Artificial Intelligence in Education has a significant positive effect on learning quality when analyzed independently. Teacher competence, encompassing pedagogical, professional, and digital dimensions, also shows a strong and significant influence on learning quality. However, when both variables are analyzed simultaneously, teacher competence emerges as the dominant predictor, while the direct effect of Artificial Intelligence becomes statistically non-significant. This suggests that the educational value of AI is largely contingent upon teachers’ competencies in integrating technology into meaningful instructional practices. The study concludes that Artificial Intelligence functions as an instructional support tool rather than an independent driver of learning improvement. These findings underscore the importance of aligning technological innovation with continuous teacher professional development to achieve sustainable improvements in learning quality within religious education contexts

    No full text
This study examines the linguistic landscape of tourist areas in Medan, focusing on how languages operate and function within public spaces. Tourism areas were chosen as the research context because they attract visitors from various backgrounds and often display multilingual practices. This study aims to describe the forms and functions of linguistic landscapes while also exploring the symbolic meanings conveyed through visual elements such as typography, colors, and logos. A qualitative descriptive method was applied, with data collected through observation, interview, and photographic documentation of signs in several tourist destinations, including Istana Maimoon, Masjid Raya Al-Mashun, Tjong A Fie Mansion, Museum Perkebunan I, Shri Mariamman Temple, and the Rahmat International Wildlife Museum. The findings reveal the presence of monolingual, bilingual, and multilingual signs that highlight Medan’s multicultural identity and its role as a domestic and international tourist destination. Indonesian dominates as the national language, reinforcing unity, accessibility, and loyalty to the national language, while foreign languages such as English, Tamil, and Mandarin expand communicative reach. Latin, used in the Rahmat International Wildlife Museum, serves as a scientific language for naming species, emphasizing its educational and academic role. Symbolic functions are conveyed through colors, typography, and logos that embody religious, cultural, and ecological values. Informational functions are realized in name signs, directional signs, informational signs and prohibition signs that guide and regulate visitor behavior. The linguistic landscape of Medan’s tourist areas serves not only as a means of public communication but also as a reflection of cultural heritage, social values, and urban identity

Faith, Ecology, and Frugality: Unpacking Muslim Consumers’ Motivations Toward Fashion Thrifting

    No full text
This study unpacks the intertwined motivations of faith, ecological consciousness, and frugality that shape fashion thrifting behavior among Muslim consumers in urban Indonesia. Anchored in Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the research constructs a model that traces how intrinsic motivations (religiosity and environmental awareness) and extrinsic motivation (frugality) inform attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and actual thrifting behavior. Differing from previous fragmented approaches, this model’s originality lies in its holistic integration of spiritual and economic drivers within a single structural framework to explain value-laden consumption. Using a cross-sectional survey and SEM-PLS analysis on 194 respondents, the study reveals that attitude serves as the central conduit for these motivations. Frugality emerges as the most consistent direct predictor, while religiosity and ecological awareness exert nuanced indirect influences. Multi-group analysis highlights gender as a significant moderator, whereas generational differences are less pronounced. Practically, these findings suggest that thrift industries should adopt gender-specific marketing that aligns with Islamic ethical values, while policymakers can leverage these spiritual-ecological links to promote sustainable consumption in emerging markets

    No full text
This research aims to identify the types of conflict and the formula Khaled Hosseini uses to present them. The study uses Folarin’s theory of conflict and Cawelti’s theory of formula as the main frameworks. The data consist of words and sentences that show nine types of conflict according to Folarin’s theory, taken from Hosseini’s three novels: The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and And the Mountains Echoed. The analysis uses Spradley’s componential analysis method and a structuralist approach to explore how the intrinsic elements in the novels connect to form Hosseini’s formula. The results show six types of conflict: man vs. self, man vs. man, man vs. society, man vs. nature, inter-group conflict, and intra-state conflict. Among these, man vs. society is the most dominant in the first two novels, showing that Hosseini uses a familiar and recognizable pattern of conflict and plot. Meanwhile, in And the Mountains Echoed, he introduces an inventive formula with a plot twist to make the story feel new. Overall, Hosseini’s formula in his novels combines both convention and invention
