The Role of Women in Combating the COVID-19 Outbreak in 2020–2021: A Case Study of Indonesia

    Get PDF
This paper examines the role of women in addressing the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia, employing a qualitative methodology through a case study approach. Data were collected using literature review techniques, serving as a source of secondary data. The findings indicate that key female figures—specifically the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), the Minister of Social Affairs, and the Governor of East Java—played critical roles as regulators, implementers, and evaluators. As regulators, they contributed to the formulation of laws and policies; as implementers, they monitored policy enforcement and actions in the field; and as evaluators, they assessed the operational effectiveness of these policies to ensure targeted and efficient outcomes. Theoretically, these women exemplify the application of feminist values in governance, using their legitimate authority to advocate for inclusive and gender-sensitive responses to the pandemic. Their dual identities as state officials and women—who often bear the brunt of health crises—position them uniquely to understand the lived experiences of women and children. Moreover, women, particularly in the domestic sphere, serve as primary managers in preventing their households from becoming new clusters of COVID-19 transmission. When women are involved in policy-making and implementation, they are better positioned to shape interventions that directly address the needs of vulnerable populations

“Bridging the digital gap”: Students’ awareness, ease of use, and self-efficacy towards online learning among university students in Nigeria

    Get PDF
The integration of online learning applications has become an indispensable innovation in 21st-century education. Platforms such as Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and Canvas have facilitated internet-based learning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the extent to which students adopt and effectively use these tools remains uneven. This study investigated undergraduate students’ awareness, perceived ease of use, and self-efficacy in using online learning applications across universities in Oyo State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was employed, involving 270 undergraduate students selected through simple random sampling from three purposively chosen universities. Data were collected using a researcher-designed questionnaire, validated and tested for reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.76). Descriptive statistics (mean scores) and inferential statistics (independent sample t-test) were used for data analysis. Findings revealed that students’ awareness of online learning applications was high (M = 2.64), and their perceived ease of use was positive (M = 2.63). However, their self-efficacy in using these applications was low (M = 1.90), indicating a gap between recognition and confident usage. This suggests that despite being familiar with digital platforms, many students still lack the confidence and skills needed to navigate them effectively. No significant gender difference was found in students’ self-efficacy levels (p = .42, p > .05). The study concludes that while awareness and perceived usability are encouraging, students' confidence in using online learning tools remains inadequate. It recommends enhanced access to digital infrastructure and targeted capacity-building workshops to improve self-efficacy and maximize the benefits of online learning

LEVEL SHIFTS IN TOETY HERATY'S 'GENEVA BULAN JULI' POETRY TRANSLATION

    Get PDF
Poetry often uses certain linguistic devices and styles such as metaphors, meters, and rhymes. A level shift can occur when these devices are expressed differently in the target language. Different languages have varying grammatical structures and rules, which can lead to level shift when translating. Cultural and contextual differences may require a level shift to make the poem understandable and comprehensible in the target language. In shift translation, there are two categories, level shift and category shift. This study focuses on the identification of the level shift in the poem Geneva Bulan Juli and its translation. A qualitative descriptive method is used to analyze the data of this study. The result shows that there are 17 level shifts occurring with the majority in the forms of shifts from grammatical forms, in the source language, to lexical forms, in the target language. These shifts include the transformations of verbs to nominal forms, the removals or additions of time elements and aspects, and the replacements of complex syntactic structures into dense and direct diction. Each shift serves not only as a linguistic adjustment but also as a rhetorical strategy to maintain the depth of meanings, emotional nuances, and poetic power in translation. These findings suggest that level shifts are inevitable strategies as well as creative aspects in poetry translation that have important implications for the studies of cross-cultural literary translation

The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data published by the Financial Services Authority. The data pertains to key financial performance indicators of Sharia banking, including assets, financing, and third-party funds, both before and after the implementation of Qanun Aceh No. 11 of 2018. The data is analysed using paired sample t-tests. This research shows that the enactment of Qanun Aceh no. 11 of 2018 is the expected consequence of the existence of a Sharia banking monopoly in the region. This research shows that the enactment of Qanun Aceh no. 11 of 2018 is the expected consequence of the existence of a Sharia banking monopoly in the region. This policy forces all customers, whether individuals, businesses, corporations, or local government funds, to move their accounts from conventional banks to Sharia banks. Thus, the increase in Sharia banking assets and funds is more the result of the relocation of funds previously in conventional banks, not solely due to an increase in public preference for the Sharia financial systems. This finding highlights that the Qanun has enhanced public participation and trust in Sharia banking. The study provides crucial insights into the role of regulations in fostering the development of Sharia banking

Pertarungan Ideologi Petani: Studi Historis Konflik antara Sarekat Tani Islam Indonesia (STII) dan Barisan Tani Indonesia (BTI) 1945-1960

    No full text
