Knowledge, Discipline, and Spirituality: The Philosophical Dimensions of Islamic Education in Ta‘lim al-Muta‘allim
Ta'lim al-Muta'allim is a seminal classical work on Islamic education that emphasizes learning ethics, purity of intention, the central role of teachers, and the ultimate goal of knowledge as a means of attaining closeness to Allah. This study aims to examine Ta'lim al-Muta'allim through the lens of the philosophy of science within the context of contemporary Islamic education. Employing a qualitative approach with content analysis, this research explores the ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions of knowledge in al-Zarnuji’s thought and their relevance to character formation and moral resilience in the era of globalization. The findings reveal that Ta'lim al-Muta'allim presents an ontological view that true knowledge is inherently moral and spiritual rather than value-neutral. From an axiological perspective, knowledge serves as a means to promote benefit, uphold justice, and strengthen the human relationship with God. The integration of knowledge and morality constitutes the foundation that connects intellectual development with ethical growth. The study concludes that an educational curriculum integrating cognitive and moral dimensions—as reflected in Ta'lim al-Muta'allim—enhances students’ moral resilience amid global ethical challenges. This research contributes to the discourse on the philosophy of science in Islamic education by reaffirming the necessity of linking knowledge, values, and spirituality in developing a holistic and sustainable educational paradigm
Comparative Analysis of Sharia and Conventional Peer-to-Peer Lending for MSMEs
Objective: This study aims to comparatively analyze the differences in risks, costs, and social impacts between Sharia and conventional Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Method: The research adopts a library research approach by utilizing secondary data obtained from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), academic literature, and various scholarly journals related to fintech and Islamic finance. Result: The findings indicate that conventional P2P lending operates under a fixed interest-based system, in which credit risk is fully borne by the borrower, whereas Sharia P2P lending applies profit-and-loss sharing and risk-sharing principles through contracts such as mudharabah, musyarakah, or wakalah bil ujrah. The cost structure in the Sharia system is more flexible as it does not involve elements of riba, while the conventional system imposes fixed interest rates that may place a financial burden on MSMEs. From a social perspective, P2P lending plays a significant role in expanding access to financing for MSMEs that are not yet served by formal financial institutions. Conclusion: The Sharia model is considered more equitable as it emphasizes partnership, transparency, and economic justice in accordance with Islamic values. Therefore, Sharia P2P lending functions not only as an alternative financing mechanism but also as an instrument for sustainable and socially just economic empowerment
The Process of Achieving Inner Peace in the Congregation of the Dhikr Assembly
Research examining the psychological condition of congregants during the practice of dhikr and its impact on inner peace remains relatively limited. Objective: This article aims to explain the process through which inner peace is formed among members of the Annisa Dhikr Assembly (Majelis zikir Annisa) in Matesih, Karanganyar, Central Java, Indonesia. Method: This study employs a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation and were analyzed to capture the congregants’ subjective experiences while engaging in dhikr practices. Results: The findings indicate that congregants’ experiences of inner peace are dynamic and shaped by several key dimensions, including physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social support aspects. The interaction among these dimensions contributes significantly to the emergence of feelings of calmness and inner tranquility. In addition, inner peace is influenced by contextual factors such as the presence of the dhikr leader, the leader’s vocal intonation during the dhikr recitation, the style of delivery, and the congregants’ level of understanding of the meaning and practice of dhikr. Conclusion: These findings suggest that dhikr functions not merely as a religious ritual, but also as a psychospiritual experience that plays an important role in fostering inner peace among congregants
Students' Ability in Practicing L & R Pronunciation in English with a Song: A Literature Review
Pronunciation is a fundamental component of English language learning that directly affects learners’ intelligibility and communicative competence. Among EFL learners, particularly those from Indonesian backgrounds, the pronunciation of the English phonemes /l/ and /r/ poses a persistent challenge due to first language interference, limited phonological awareness, and insufficient exposure to native-like input. Objective: This study aims to review and synthesize existing literature on students’ ability to practice English pronunciation, specifically the /l/ and /r/ sounds, through the use of songs as a learning medium. Method: Employing a qualitative literature review approach, this study analyzes findings from peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and relevant academic sources related to pronunciation instruction, phonological difficulties, and song-based language learning. Results: The review reveals that songs provide repetitive, rhythmic, and authentic phonological input that supports pronunciation development while fostering a low-anxiety and motivating learning environment. Although previous studies highlight the positive impact of songs on learners’ engagement and pronunciation accuracy, research focusing explicitly on /l/ and /r/ pronunciation remains limited. Conclusion: Therefore, further empirical investigation is recommended to strengthen instructional practices in EFL pronunciation teaching
Digital Transformation in Islamic Banking: Examining User Adoption of BYOND BSI in Indonesia
Purpose: This study investigates the effects of perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, e service quality, and technostress on the decision to use the BYOND BSI super app within the digital transformation of Islamic banking in Indonesia, focusing on Islamic university students in the Malang Raya region.
Method: A quantitative approach was applied using a structured questionnaire administered to 100 respondents. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling through SmartPLS 3.0 to assess the influence of digital factors on user adoption.
Result: The findings show that perceived ease of use and technostress significantly affect the decision to use BYOND BSI, while e service quality has a moderate effect and perceived enjoyment is not significant. These results suggest that adoption behavior is primarily driven by functional convenience and technological pressure rather than hedonic motivation.
Implication: The study extends the Technology Acceptance Model by incorporating technostress in the context of Islamic digital banking and highlights the need for simple system design reliable services and improved digital literacy to reduce user stress.
Originality: This study contributes to Islamic fintech literature by empirically integrating technostress into the TAM framework and explaining user adoption behavior in Indonesia
Accounting and spiritual crisis: Comparing the values of house ownership and hajj in financial decision-making
This study aims to critique the societal reality deeply influenced by Maslow’s theory, particularly the belief that owning a house is a fundamental necessity. The research employs a humanis-theocentric approach, which posits that the essence of human creation is to worship Allah. This status as servants of God serves as a critical analytical tool to challenge the prevailing notion in society that owning a house is obligatory. Consequently, the paradigm that owning a house is mandatory while performing Hajj is conditional upon one’s financial capability is a flawed perspective. Regardless of circumstances, people should not consider themselves wealthy in worldly matters while feeling impoverished in spiritual obligations
DeepL as a Translanguaging Tool in an Indonesian EFL Student’s Academic Writing
This study investigates how an Indonesian EFL student uses DeepL, a machine translation (MT) tool, as part of her translanguaging practices in academic writing, and how she refines machine-generated texts to meet academic standards. Using a qualitative case study design, this research employed semi-structured interviews, writing assignments, and screen recordings to collect in-depth data. DeepL was specifically chosen among other MT and AI tools due to the participant’s consistent preference, contextual accuracy for academic writing, and a unique alternative-word-suggestion feature that appears to facilitate the participant’s text refinement process directly. The findings suggest that DeepL acts as a learning resource that supports vocabulary development, paraphrasing, and linguistic reflection. The participant critically engaged with DeepL’s translation results by employing several strategies, including back-translation, paraphrasing, and text evaluation, demonstrating an awareness of meaning, tone, and academic style. These practices reflect the translanguaging theory that the use of multilingual repertoires can be supported by digital technology in the construction of meaning. The novelty of this research lies in its rich, contextual insights into collaborative interactions between humans and machines in a single case, thereby providing an exploratory foundation for future, larger-scale comparative studies. The findings of this research also contribute to the field of applied linguistics and EFL pedagogy by proposing the pedagogical integration of MT tools to enhance critical digital literacy and reflective language learning
