    CONCEPTUAL METAPHORS IN 'MAHFUDZAT': THE REPRESENTATION OF KNOWLEDGE VALUES IN ARAB SOCIETY

    This study aimed to identify the forms of metaphor in Mahfudzat's work on knowledge and to prove that the work reflects the life of Arab society. Lakoff and Johnson's (2003) theory were used as the base for data analysis. The theory states that there are source and target domains in metaphor which are described in this study by using Kovesces' mapping table. As this is a descriptive-qualitative research, the data of this study are in the forms of textual materials of Mahfudzat from Modern Islamic Boarding school Darussalam Gontor. The data source is limited to Mahfudzat materials containing the word ‘knowledge’ in the curricula for Grade 1 and 2. For collecting the data, documentation techniques were applied by reading and understanding the text as well as identifying, classifying, and categorizing the data. Meanwhile, the process of data analysis went through several stages i.e.: reading, composing metaphors, describing conceptual metaphor mapping, categorizing the types of metaphors, and drawing conclusions. The results show that there are 13 data related to science in Mahfudzat. In addition, 8 data containing metaphors were found, comprising 2 structural metaphors, 1 orientational metaphor, and 5 ontological metaphors

    ROMANTICIZING ILLNESS: THE REPRESENTATION OF LOVE AND DISEASE IN THE MOVIES 'MIDNIGHT SUN' AND 'MEET ME AFTER SUNSET'

    This study aims to find out how love and disease are represented as discourse in the movies entitled Midnight Sun (2018) and Meet Me After Sunset (2018). How the discourse of disease and love is constructed simultaneously in the stories of two characters with different social and cultural backgrounds is crucial to probe because discourses convey and create power and hierarchy. This study compares two characters who suffer from a rare disease named xeroderma pigmentosum. The disease makes them sensitive to sunlight in the teenage phase during which they experience falling in love. The main objects of comparison are the movie characters Katie from Midnight Sun and Gadis in Meet Me After Sunset. This study employs comparative methods which are appropriate to analyze how different socio-cultures can influence the discourse on love and illness. Discourses and constructs regarding love and illness in popular literature, including movies, cannot be fully understood without referring to gender and socio-culture. Illness is romanticized in Meet Me After Sunset and Midnight Sun. In the Indonesian context, the discourse of love as freedom is less obvious. In contrast, the discourse of isolation and the lack of agency are more advocated compared to the American counterpart. It is due to the differences in cultural patterns that operate in both movies. The discourse of illness in both stories leads to a binary gender hierarchy that associates masculinity with health, while femininity is associated with illness. The isolation caused by disease can also be associated with domestic femininity, which then becomes the idealized value of femininity in both movies

    THE VIOLATIONS OF THE COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES IN 'EASY MANDARIN' YOUTUBE CHANNEL CONVERSATIONS

    This study analyzes the violations of the cooperative principles in the YouTube channel Easy Mandarin as such violations in social media content reflect authentic language use and provide valuable insights into real world communication and pragmatic language learning. The main objective of this research is to identify how violations of the maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and manner occur and what factors influence them. The data were collected from the transcription of videos from the YouTube channel by documentation technique. The data consist of 15 interview-style street videos from Easy Mandarin: Learn Mandarin from the Streets episode which were selected based on the highest number of views, with each video having a duration of approximately 12 to 15 minutes. The results of the analysis show that, in violation of the maxim of quantity, respondents often provide information that is less in-depth or too little, even though the purpose of the conversation is to create a comfortable atmosphere. It is found that the use of humour, false statements, and innuendo, in violation of the quality maxim, reduced the accuracy and truthfulness of the information. Meanwhile, violations of the maxim of relevance were identified through avoidance of direct conversation, refusal to develop the topic, and assertion of personal views irrelevant to the question. Finally, the maxim of manner was violated by errors in answering, forgetfulness, anxiety, and the use of empathy, pleasantries, and secrets, all of which obscured the clarity and depth of the conversation. The findings indicate that various social, emotional, and personal factors influence the violation of these maxims, thereby affecting the communication flow in the conversation

    Inter-Organizational Islamic Study Groups: A Collaborative Approach to Conflict Resolution in Multicultural Communities

    This study aims to examine the role of inter-organizational Islamic study groups (Majelis Taklim), particularly Bidayatus Salikin, in conflict resolution within multicultural communities. The research explores strategies employed to foster and sustain peace amidst differing religious organizational perspectives and backgrounds, using Johan Galtung’s theoretical framework of peacemaking, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding. Data were collected through documentation of Majelis Taklim activities, in-depth interviews, and field observations. The findings reveal that Majelis Taklim serves as an inclusive forum that enables various religious organizations to openly discuss sensitive issues through a consensus-based (musyawarah) approach. Cross-organizational activities, such as joint religious discussions and the implementation of internal codes of conduct, effectively prevent conflict and promote group harmony. Additionally, the study group initiates peacekeeping efforts through economic empowerment programs, social outreach, and the formation of inter-organizational task forces aimed at long-term peacebuilding. These strategies not only strengthen inter-organizational relations but also generate positive social outcomes. This research concludes that inter-organizational Majelis Taklim plays a strategic role in managing diversity through holistic and inclusive approaches. Their efforts contribute significantly to building a more peaceful, tolerant, and prosperous society. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a model for similar initiatives in addressing conflict in multicultural contexts

    The Role of Sharia Fintech in Enhancing Financial Inclusion in the Digital Era

    Purpose: This study aims to critically examine the role of Sharia-compliant financial technology (fintech) in enhancing financial inclusion, particularly among underserved Muslim populations in the digital era. Method: Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA protocol, this study analyzes 20 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2018 and 2025.. Results: The findings are organized into four thematic domains: (1) improved access to finance for MSMEs through Sharia fintech platforms, (2) the critical role of digital and Sharia financial literacy in building trust, (3) regulatory fragmentation and ecosystem limitations, and (4) the ethical imperative of embedding justice in Islamic financial inclusion. Implication: The study provides actionable policy recommendations for regulators, fintech developers, and Islamic financial institutions to foster a sustainable and ethically grounded digital finance ecosystem. Originality: This study contributes to the literature by combining Islamic financial inclusion theory with contemporary digital finance practices

    PORTRAIT OF THE LGBT PHENOMENON: A REVIEW OF INDONESIAN ISLAMIC DISCOURSE

    The LGBT phenomenon is increasingly prominent and even the perpetrators openly expose themselves to get recognition and legality of their existence. Their demands for their existence reap the pros and cons in various circles and become a polemic, including in Indonesia. This research aims to examine the LGBT phenomenon in the Indonesian context, with a particular emphasis on the perspectives of Indonesian Islamic figures and organizations on the phenomenon. The data collection method used in this research is a literature study, with data collection techniques through the collection and analysis of various literature related to the research theme, including books, journal articles, websites, Youtube channels and other sources relevant to the topic of LGBT in the Indonesian context. The research findings show that despite strong social resistance, there is a need for a balanced approach between religious values and human rights in dealing with this phenomenon. In this case, human rights become one of the bases for groups that support the existence of LGBT. However, in general, Indonesia with the majority of its population embracing Islam, the existence of LGBT on the basis of religion is firmly rejected, with the statement that the act violates the human nature given by God. The rejection is also supported by several perspectives that review the mudharat of LGBT actions. The theoretical implication of this research is the need for a balanced approach between religious values and human rights in dealing with the LGBT phenomenon in Indonesia, which reflects a fundamental challenge in harmonizing human rights universalism with the context of strong religious values

    Counseling services across public primary schools in Dar es Salaam: An exploratory study

    From the perspective of counseling psychology, counseling is important in the overall development of school children. Thus, it should be provided to all learners. However, this is not the current reality in Tanzanian primary schools. This study explored the provision of counseling services and strategies applied by the teacher-counselors in selected primary schools in Tanzania. Data were collected through interviews with five teacher counselors across five schools. The findings showed that counseling services offered predominantly were individual, developmental, academic, and group counseling. The counseling services targeted personal pupils’ problems, such as nervousness, low achievements, and social-related problems. Mainly, four strategies were used in the study area: self-disclosure, summarizing and reframing, constructive confrontation, and person-centered strategy. As such, counseling services should be integrated into the overall school development plan, and teachers should effectively utilize demonstrated strategies to positively impact pupils' general development

This makes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in student learning, especially Arabic, increasingly relevant in the context of modern education. The presence of Artificial Intelligence / AI) as a learning solution for the digital era 5.0 increases learning and innovation in education to be more effective and efficient. This article explains the potential of Artificial Intelligence / AI) in the recognition and translation of texts from Indonesian to Arabic. The research method in this article is descriptive qualitative with literature, which includes analysis of various sources and views related to the utilization of Artificial Intelligence / AI) in the pronunciation and translation of Arabic texts. The results of the research show that in the development of the digital era, it is very possible to utilize Artificial Intelligence / AI) for the pronunciation and translation of Arabic texts. The implementation of its utilization by using ChatGPT and Copilot technology allows students or teachers to certify and translate Arabic text. This shows that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is very effective so as to increase efficiency in learning activities

    Exploring Students’ Preferences and Satisfaction in Using Digital Media for Arabic Language Learning in Islamic Higher Education

    This study investigates students’ preferences and satisfaction regarding the use of digital media in Arabic language learning at Islamic universities. This study uses a qualitative approach with a survey method. The data collection technique was through an online questionnaire distributed to students of the Arabic Language Education study program at three Islamic religious universities. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics to determine the preferences of media use and the level of satisfaction of students with the media they used. The results of the study show that the majority of students choose digital media that are audiovisual and interactive in supporting the learning of receptive skills and Arabic grammar, such as Duolingo, Memrise, Al Jazeera Learning, YouTube, Google Translate, Ma'ani Dictionary, DeepL, Gemini AI, TikTok, cakeAI, and ChatGPT. Among these media, the most widely used media by students are YouTube, 40.8%, and Google Translate, 31.5%, and the rest are other media. Specialized learning apps like Duolingo and Memrise are used on a limited scale. In terms of satisfaction, 97.6% of respondents felt satisfied to be very satisfied with the use of digital media. The factors of ease of use, accessibility, a large selection of materials and increasing motivation to learn are the main reasons for the high level of satisfaction. The findings suggest that digital media holds significant potential for further development as an effective and adaptable tool for Arabic language instruction in modern educational contexts

    EVALUASI DAN PENGENDALIAN STRATEGI DALAM MENINGKATKAN MUTU PENDIDIKAN PADA SD TAKMIRUL ISLAM SURAKARTA TAHUN PELAJARAN 2023-2024

    Abstract Management in an educational institution is one of the factors to maintain a stable institution, which includes evaluating and controlling strategies which is also one of the elements of management itself. The object of this research is SD Takmirul Islam Surakarta. This study aims to determine the evaluation and control of strategies in improving the quality of education, this research uses qualitative research. Qualitative data analysis method through three activities, namely (1) data reduction (2) data presentation, and (3) conclusion drawing and verification. The results of this study are formulated in 2 conclusions, namely First, Education Evaluation in Improving the Quality of Education.  Second, Control Strategy in Improving the Quality of Education. The results of the study explain that the management control system process is good as evidenced by the delegation of authority properly, the implementation of programs that refer to previous plans, budgeting, implementation or measurement that is well supervised to the evaluation carried out from each division so that the quality of education at SD Takmirul Islam Surakarta continues to grow over the years. Keywords: Evaluation, Strategy Control, and Education Quality.    Abstrak Manajemen dalam suatu lembaga pendidikan merupakan salah satu faktor untuk mempertahankan lembaga agar tetap stabil, yang diantaranya yaitu melakukan evaluasi dan pengendalian strategi dimana hal tersebut juga merupakan salah satu unsur dari manajemen itu sendiri. Objek dalam penelitian ini adalah SD Takmirul Islam Surakarta. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui evaluasi dan pengendalian strategi dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan, penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif. Metode analisis data kualitatif melalui tiga aktivitas, yaitu (1) reduksi data (2) penyajian data, dan (3) penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian ini terumuskan dalam 2 kesimpulan, yaitu Pertama, Evaluasi Pendidikan Dalam Meningkatkan Mutu Pendidikan.  Kedua, Pengendalian Strategi Dalam Meningkatkan Mutu Pendidikan. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa proses sistem pengendalian manajemen sudah baik terbukti dengan pendelegasian wewenang dengan baik, pelaksanaan program yang mengacu pada rencana sebelumnya, penyusunan anggaran, pelaksanaan atau pengukuran yang diawasi dengan baik sampai pada evaluasi yang dilakukan dari masing-masing divisi sehingga mutu pendidikan di SD Takmirul Islam Surakarta terus berkembang selama bertahun-tahun.   Keywords: Evaluasi, Pengendalian Strategi, dan Mutu Pendidikan.&nbsp
