Nafas Sebagai Bagian dari Ekologi: Interpretasi QS. Al-Mursalat25-26 dalam Konteks Siklus Karbon

    No full text

How English Texts Work for Deaf Learners: A View from Systemic Functional Linguistics’ Transitivity System

    No full text
This study examines how experiential meaning is realized in an Indonesian government-published English textbook for eleventh-grade deaf students in Special Senior High Schools (SMALB). While this meaning concerns who is doing what in certain circumstances, it can also investigate what happenings are involved, given that aural happenings pose significant linguistic and pedagogical difficulties among deaf students in accessing learning materials. However, little is known about the instructional content in such a textbook. Using the transitivity system from Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to capture the language realizations and insights of the social model of disability in coping with structural barriers, this study examined clauses as the unit of analysis, comprising 176 short commands and 87 brief dialogues. The findings highlight the need to accommodate the nature of deaf students, as both text types lack adequate linguistic diversity and multimodal support, thereby limiting accessibility and engagement. These findings reflect structural barriers in the textbook design. This study recommends revising the command structure, diversifying participant roles and circumstantial elements, and integrating visual strategies such as sign language models, gestures, and contextual images. This study highlights that transitivity analysis can be harnessed to inform appropriate doings and experiences related to learning, contributing to inclusive English language instruction and equitable learning experiences for deaf students

Economy Running the Nation, Nature Paying the Price: An Islamic Perspective on Environmental Disasters in Sumatra

    No full text
This study examines the link between rising deforestation in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra and the ecological vulnerability that intensified hydrometeorological disasters in late 2025. The purpose of this research is to analyze deforestation trends, assess their connection to the ecological disasters that occurred, and explore these phenomena through an Islamic perspective. The study employs a qualitative method using a library research design, drawing on scientific sources, official reports, and secondary data on forest-cover loss and disaster documentation. The findings indicate a consistent increase in deforestation from 2019 to 2024, while cumulative forest loss from 2001 to 2024 has reached approximately 3.3 million hectares, significantly weakening the ecological capacity of forests to maintain hydrological balance and soil stability. The Islamic analysis reveals that excessive exploitation contradicts the principles of amanah (trust), mīzān (balance), and the prohibitions against fasād (corruption) and isrāf (excessiveness), demonstrating that environmental destruction carries moral and spiritual dimensions. This study concludes that forest management in Sumatra requires an approach grounded not only in ecological and economic considerations but also in Islamic values that emphasize stewardship, moderation, and sustainability

Syeikh Nyass and The Making of Sacred Narratives: Myth, Reincarnation and Sūfi Identity in Nigeria

    Get PDF
This study examines the theological and social perception of Nigerian Sūfis (mystics) regarding the claims of Syeikh Nyass's reincarnation and its significance or otherwise for Sūfi practice. It uses a conceptual tool known as the Myth and Reality Framework developed by Karl Popper to distinguish between theological realities and mystical beliefs. The study adopts a Qualitative research method by employing both primary and secondary sources of data collection, ranging from interviews, review of published Scholarly works, and Sūfi literature, to investigate the basis of reincarnation within the Sūfi tradition and how Nigerian Sūfis responded to the claim of its actualization vis-à-vis Syeikh Nyass. The study found that Syeikh Nyass has been one of the most influential Sūfi figures whose influence spread across West Africa, particularly Nigeria. Nevertheless, Nigerian Sūfis remarkably divided regarding Nyass’s alleged reincarnation; while some adherents affirm its occurrence claiming that the spiritual power of Syeikh Nyass continues even after his death through his chosen followers, enabling them to perceive his physical presence, while others vehemently reject such possibility, arguing that it is against the tenets of Islam. The study concludes that Subsequent studies may examine the existence of this spiritual reincarnation across Sūfi Orders such as Qadiriyya, Naqsybandiyya, and Chisytiyya to compare their theological perception and socio-cultural implications

    Get PDF
This research aimed at finding out the sequential structure of the interactions between sellers and buyers at the traditional market of Biboki Anleu. It employed conversation analysis (CA) to identify the interaction patterns-such as openings, adjacency pairs, insertions, extensions, and closings that reflect the social dynamics of market transaction-and ethnography of communication to understand the sociocultural context, norms, and language practices of the local community that frame their everyday communicative behaviors. The data collection was conducted through participatory observation, audiovisual recordings, and conversation transcription. The findings show that the conversation structure not only regulates the flow of communication but also conveys local cultural values such as politeness, solidarity, and communal economy. Unique expressions like owwww… are used as subtle and multimodal negotiation strategies. This study also highlights the differences of conversational structure from other traditional markets, such as those in Mexico and Manado by identifying both common patterns in buying and selling conversations and distinctive local features of the border community. Theoretically, this research expands the application of CA and ethnography of communication in local activities and enriches the understanding of interactional sociolinguistics. Culturally and linguistically, traditional markets are proven to be social spaces that shape, sustain, and transmit community identities and values through verbal and non-verbal interaction
