DEIXIS IN THE SHORT STORY AL-ISTIGHOTSAH BY ZAKARIA TAMER: A PRAGMATIC ANALYSIS: DEIKSIS PADA CERPEN AL-ISTIGHOTSAH KARYA ZAKARIA TAMER: KAJIAN PRAGMATIK
Deixis plays a crucial role in literary discourse by linking language to its narrative and social context. Despite its significance, pragmatic studies on deixis in Arabic literary texts remain limited. This study aims to analyze the use of deixis in the Arabic short story Al-Istighāthah by Zakaria Tamer using Yule’s (1996) theory. The research focuses on identifying and interpreting three types of deixis—personal, temporal, and spatial—and how they function within the narrative. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with contextual analysis, the data were derived from selected excerpts of the short story. The findings reveal that personal deixis clarifies character roles and relationships through pronoun usage, temporal deixis constructs the chronological framework via expressions such as al-ān and past-tense verbs, while spatial deixis situates events using references like bi-al-qurbi minhumā and fawqa arḍi Maysalūn. These deixis types do not merely serve referential functions but also reflect the emotional, social, and historical dimensions of the text. This study contributes to the pragmatic-stylistic analysis of Arabic literary works by highlighting how deixis shapes meaning and narrative engagement within a culturally loaded context
AN ANALYSIS OF INTERROGATIVE EXPRESSIONS IN THE SHORT STORY 'MAHFAZHAH' FROM THE COLLECTION 'ISN’T THAT SO?' BY YUSUF IDRIS: A SEMIOTIC STUDY BASED ON MICHAEL RIFFATERRE'S THEORY: TAḤLĪL AL-ISTIFHĀM FĪ AL-QIṢṢAH AL-QAṢĪRAH "MAḤFAẒAH" MIN AL-MAJMŪ‘AH AL-QIṢAṢIYYAH "A-LAYSA KA-DHĀLIK" LI-YŪSUF IDRĪS (DIRĀSAH SĪMĀ’IYYAH BI-MANHAJ MICHAEL RIFFATERRE)
This study aims to explore the function and semantic role of interrogative expressions in Yusuf Idris’s short story Mahfazhah, through the lens of Michael Riffaterre’s semiotic theory. The research investigates how these linguistic tools shift from simple interrogatives into rhetorical devices that convey psychological, social, and philosophical dimensions, thereby deepening textual interpretation and revealing hidden meanings. A qualitative descriptive method is employed, specifically content analysis. Interrogative sentences are extracted and categorized according to their types, then analyzed using Riffaterre’s semiotic concepts to uncover the subtextual meanings embedded within the narrative structure and cultural context. The findings reveal that interrogatives such as “mā” and “limādhā” reflect internal confusion; “hal” and the hamzah interrogative express existential alienation; “kayfa” and “ayna” portray economic hardship; while “man” and “ayy” articulate identity struggles and individual-society tension. Thus, interrogatives in the text become central rhetorical elements charged with symbolic and interpretive depth. This research contributes to the applied understanding of Riffaterre’s semiotics and offers an analytical model for interpreting short stories through a semiotic perspective. It supports scholars and students of Arabic literature in uncovering deeper textual meanings within a rigorous scientific framework

BETWEEN FICTION AND HISTORY: THE NARRATIVES OF MAJAPAHIT IN GIGREY'S NOVEL 'MADA'
The Majapahit Empire has been a source of inspiration for writers of historical fiction, such as Gigrey with his novel Mada. Unfortunately, these historical fictions have the possibility to make readers experience misunderstanding in comprehending history. Therefore, this study aimed to reveal to what extent historical deviation can be considered as creativity and not deviation and whether it can be considered a deviation when the writer develops the history excessively. This study employed a descriptive-qualitative method and used Lindbald's theory of historical fiction for analyzing the data. The result shows that there is a historical narrative that can be categorized as creativity because it is so imaginative and does not trap readers in false history. Meanwhile, one form of creative change in the novel that traps can be seen when Nertaja is told as Tribhuwana Wijayatunggadewi's adopted son. Because of these creative changes, many readers are trapped in a false history as evidenced by the comments on Goodreads. This is exacerbated by promotional narratives about the author's extensive research, making common reader even more trapped in the falsehood
Harmonizing Sharia Accounting and Corporate Culture: A Pathway to Better Decision-Making
This study explores the relationship between cognitive bias, heuristic bias, and corporate culture in the context of sharia accounting decision making in Indonesia. The results show that cognitive bias does not have a significant effect on decision making, while corporate culture is proven to moderate the effect of cognitive bias on sharia accounting decisions. On the other hand, heuristic bias also has no direct effect, and the interaction between corporate culture and heuristic bias does not show a significant impact. These findings emphasize the importance of corporate culture in forming a framework that can reduce the negative impact of cognitive bias in decision making. The practical implications of this study suggest that companies need to integrate sharia values into their organizational culture to improve the quality of decision making, thereby creating a more transparent and accountable environment. Theoretically, this study contributes to the understanding of how psychological and cultural factors can influence each other in the context of sharia accounting, paving the way for further research that can deepen the analysis of the integration of sharia values in business practices.
Navigating Family Responsibilities: A Maqāṣid Sharia Framework for the Sandwich Generation
The sandwich generation phenomenon is a global issue, with society acknowledging the financial and emotional challenges these people encounter. In the history of European evolution emerged influences that focus on individual rights can sometimes overshadow collective welfare and social justice, resulting in persistent disparities in wealth, access to healthcare, and educational opportunities. Consequently, the liberal perspective, which primarily examines economic factors, advocates for social benefits and counselling support to prevent members of this generation from succumbing to despair. The Islamic concept of maqāṣid sharia offers a holistic approach to tackle these challenges by striving for equilibrium in religious, spiritual, intellectual, genealogical, and material domains. This study utilises library research method employing maqāṣid sharia as an analytical framework to explore the application of its five core principles in addressing the pressures encountered by the sandwich generation. The findings reveal that enhancing spiritual values (hifẓ ad-dīn), preserving mental and physical well-being through work-life balance (hifẓ an-nafs), fostering intellectual growth and resilience (hifẓ al-aql), cultivating an Islamic parenting approach rooted in communal support (hifẓ an-nasl), and promoting social responsibility to bolster familial welfare (hifẓ al-māl) can effectively mitigate the dual burden faced by this generation. These strategies aim to achieve overall well-being whilst safeguarding spiritual, psychological, and social aspects of life
Understanding the Hadith on Perfume: An Effort to Prevent Sexual Harassment and Protect Women
Research on hadith related to perfume often emphasizes the ethical aspects of its use and its implications for personality. However, there has been limited exploration of how these hadiths can serve as tools to prevent sexual harassment and protect women. This study aims to examine the hadith concerning women’s use of perfume from the perspective of preventing sexual harassment and safeguarding women. Employing a descriptive-qualitative method combined with thematic analysis techniques, this research analyzes qualitative data, including narrative and interpretive studies of the hadith texts to uncover their meanings. Additionally, it conducts a phenomenological analysis of social norms regarding women’s use of perfume in society. The findings reveal that the prohibition of women wearing perfume in public spaces aims to protect them from negative attention or harassment, which can stem from certain social norms. The hadith advises women to use perfume thoughtfully and by the situation to avoid potential harm. Furthermore, these teachings highlight the importance of ethics, morality, and respect for women, which can serve as a foundation for promoting their protection in social settings. The contribution of this research is to offer a new perspective on the relevance of hadith in preventing sexual harassment through the principle of caution and to reinforce the role of religion in protecting women both socially and psychologically
KONSTRUKSI IDEOLOGI TAFSIR WEBSITE : STUDI ANALISIS TERHADAP KONTEN TAFSIR MODERASI BERAGAMA DALAM TANWIR.ID
The interpretation of the Qur'an has continuously evolved over time. The transition of Qur'anic exegesis from print media to digital media presents its own challenges and issues within the field of tafsir studies. Additionally, there is a potential risk of manipulation and the deliberate insertion of ideological influences by website owners. The objective of this research is to describe the ideological construction promoted by Tanwir.id. The central issue in this study lies in how the Tanwir.id website constructs its ideology in shaping the discourse on Qur'anic exegesis. This research is a field study with a descriptive-analytical approach. The data analyzed using Berger and Luckmann's social construction theory, focusing on externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The findings indicate that in the externalization process, interactions and self-expression of contributors take place within the reality of the Tanwir.id website. The objectivation process as a form of social interaction is evident through institutionalized intersubjective dialogues, while the internalization process is reflected in the contributors' efforts to identify themselves with the content standards established by Tanwir.id. The ideology promoted by Tanwir.id is a moderate-comprehensive ideology
Balancing Sharia and Spirituality: Gus Baha’s Interpretation of Wahdatul Wujud in the Teachings of Siti Jenar
This study analyzes perspective of K.H. Ahmad Baha’udin Nursalim, known as Gus Baha’, on the Wahdatul Wujud teachings of Siti Jenar, focusing on the limitation of its dissemination to the general public. Gus Baha emphasizes that while the teachings are not fundamentally erroneous, they are highly susceptible to misinterpretation, potentially leading to religious deviations such as neglecting Sharia and fostering absolute truth claims that cause social division. Aligning with the Walisongo’s stance, he argues that advanced Sufi teachings should be studied only by intellectuals or those with sufficient spiritual capacity to prevent confusion. Using a qualitative descriptive method and literature review, the study collects data from Gus Baha’s sermons, writings, and historical analyses of Walisongo and Siti Jenar. The analysis explores the Wahdatul Wujud concept within Sufi thought and its relevance in Indonesian Islam. Findings reveal that Gus Baha’s moderate approach seeks to balance Sharia and spiritual essence, ensuring Sufism remains beneficial without compromising faith. Therefore, a correct understanding of Wahdatul Wujud can serve as a spiritual foundation for a harmonious and devout society without neglecting Islamic law
