Managing resources in the generation and development of research based spinoffs: Evidences from israeli ICT cases
Research-based spinoffs (RBSOs) have raised a great interest in recent years for their economic and social implications. The literature has studied this phenomenon from three different perspectives: resource-based, business-model driven, and institutional. Due to the possible correlation between the approaches, this work aims to suggest an integrated framework, adopting the four stages model of spinoff development. To present the application of the framework we performed an extensive examination of two RBSOs operating in the ICT sector. Results highlight the level and types of technological, human, financial and social resources (including also the institutional linkages), and their evolution and importance in the generation and development of these new high tech companies

Developing a new frame for categorising use cases of RFID in the fashion and apparel sector
This paper proposes a new frame of reference for classifying the deployments of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technique in the field of fashion and apparel retailing. This frame comprehends all different use cases that can be found in the apparel retail sector, and it updates and expands what has already been done in scientific literature in this field. After a comprehensive analysis of the scientific literature, business journals, web portals, websites and blogs, the mentioned frame was built and it counts two levels. At a first level, 6 different categories of use cases were defined and described. At a greater detail, i.e. at level 2, each one of these categories was broken into 1 to 4 specific use cases, and these level 2 use cases describe very precise objectives pursued by an RFID implementation in the given business sector. Eventually, the proposed frame was validated by a panel of industry partners. The authors believe that the frame of reference proposed could be extremely useful for researchers and practitioners, because it presents a comprehensive, complete and up-to-date framework for categorizing deployments of RFID in the apparel and fashion retail, outlining opportunities and new research spaces abut RFID deployments in the industry
Higher-Order Theories for the Free Vibration of Doubly-Curved Laminated Panels with Curvilinear Reinforcing Fibers by Means of a Local Version of the GDQ Method
The aim of this paper is to investigate the dynamic behavior of singly and doubly-curved panels reinforced by curvilinear fibers. The Variable Angle Tow (VAT) technology allows the placement of fibers along curvilinear paths with the purpose of improving dynamic performance of plates and shells. The effect of the variation of constants which define analytically the fiber orientation is also investigated by several parametric studies. The Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF) with different thickness functions along the three orthogonal curvilinear directions is the basis of the present theoretical model. Various doubly-curved laminated panels reinforced by curvilinear fibers are analyzed using several structural theories. The Local Generalized Differential Quadrature (LGDQ) method is employed to solve numerically free vibration problems. Compared to the well-known GDQ method from which it descends, the LGDQ is characterized by banded matrices instead of full ones, since the current technique considers only few points of the whole domain. Therefore, the solution of the equation system needs a lower computational effort
Advanced Applications for Laminated Doubly-Curved Shells with Variable Curvatures
The paper aims to describe laminated composite doubly-curved shells and panels with variable radii of curvatures using differential geometry. In this way the geometry of the shell or panel is described mathematically through certain predefined parameters that depend on the geometry under consideration. The mechanical model is based on the well-known Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF) with the curvature effect included in the formulation. Furthermore, the theoretical model developed by the authors allows to consider variable mechanical properties along the shell surface and variable shell thickness (according to a given smooth function). In addition, complete revolution shells are defined as special cases of panels by enforcing the kinematical and physical compatibility conditions at the closing meridian. The solution is given in terms of displacement parameters using two advanced theoretical approaches: the equivalent single layer and the layer-wise approach. It is a very well-known fact that collocation methods (known also as mesh-less or mesh-free methods) have some limitations in treating special problems in engineering, since they can only deal with regular geometries. At the same time one of the most important features of these techniques is connected to their high accuracy and stability for solving partial differential systems of equations. It could be of interest for some applications to use collocation methods in order to solve a certain numerical problem when distorted geometry and material or load discontinuities are taken into account. Thus, the governing partial differential system of equations for laminated composite doubly-curved shells and panels is solved by using the Generalized Differential Quadrature (GDQ) method and related ones. The authors employ both the free vibration analysis and the static analysis with the recovery procedure for evaluating the through the thickness strain and stresses at each point of the 3D solid shell for these advanced engineering problems. The accuracy of the present technique is verified through several comparisons with analytical and numerical finite element models

L’articolo intende presentare in modo sintetico alcuni dati, tra i più significativi, raccolti dalla somministrazione di un questionario presentato a circa 500 insegnanti iscritti ai Percorsi Abilitanti Speciali (PAS) erogati dall’Università di Bologna (edizione 2014). Il questionario, raccolto in forma anonima grazie all’attività questionnaire di Moodle (v.2.6) e propedeutico alla frequenza dell’insegnamento “Laboratorio tecnologie” di 3 CFU dei PAS, ha consentito di documentare un quadro generale sulla dotazione informatica e l’uso quotidiano delle tecnologie dell’informazione e della comunicazione (TIC) abbastanza omogeneo tra i partecipanti

Modelling and multi-objective optimization of closed loop supply chains: a case study
This study investigates the issue of optimizing the asset management process in a real closed-loop supply chain (CLSC), consisting of a pallet provider, a manufacturer and 7 retailers. A detailed simulation model, based on an adapted economic order quantity (EOQ) policy is developed under Microsoft ExcelTM to reproduce the reorder process of assets by the manufacturer and the corresponding flow of returnable transport items (RTIs) in the CLSC. A multi-objective optimization, including both economic and strategic key performance indicators of the system, is then carried out exploiting the commercial software ModeFRONTIERTM. The optimization investigates three scenarios, which refer to as many operating conditions of the manufacturer. Scenario 1 basically reproduces the current operating conditions of the manufacturer, while scenarios 2 and 3 are both hypothetical, and describe situations where the manufacturer would like to minimize the purchase of new assets and the pick-up of assets from its customers, respectively. For each scenario, the optimal configuration (i.e., the setting of the asset management process that performs best in the multi-objective optimization) is identified. Scenarios 1 and 3 are found to generate the most interesting performance of the assets management process, from both the economic and strategic perspectives. Because the present paper is grounded on a real CLSC, the results are expected to be useful to logistics and supply chain managers, to support the evaluation of the performance of CLSCs
