Università nell'impresa - impresa nell'università. Network circolare tra formazione, ricerca e produzione in Emilia-Romagna

    No full text
Incentive the synergies between design education and the production environment has become an imperative. In Emilia-Romagna region educational paths for product and service design have been consolidated and have accelerated the activation of multi-level relationships between companies and universities’ courses. The dissemination of design practices and tools within production systems has allowed companies and institutions to deal with research in order to anticipate new models and processes, but also future business scenarios. The University of Bologna, through the Industrial Product Design and Advanced Products and Services Design Bachelor and Master degree courses, feeds this circular network, designing an ad hoc didactic based on communication channels between research, experiential learning and the development of an entrepreneurial mindset

Refined shear deformation theories for laminated composite arches and beams with variable thickness: Natural frequency analysis

    No full text
A higher-order mathematical formulation with applications is presented in this paper for the free vibration analysis of arches and beams made of composite materials. Higher-order shear deformation theories are required to capture accurately the three-dimensional behavior of these structures through a one-dimensional scheme. Several orders of kinematic expansion are investigated and compared. In addition, the so-called zig–zag theories obtained through the use of the well-known Murakami's function are employed. Their effectiveness is extremely clear when laminates with inner-soft cores are analyzed. A set of numerical applications is presented to prove the accuracy of the current methodology. In particular, the comparison with exact solutions and results available in the literature or obtained through three-dimensional finite element commercial codes justifies the use of higher-order models, in which the displacement field is defined through the arbitrary choice of the maximum order of kinematic expansion. The in-plane vibrational modes of arches and beams, as well as annular ring structures, are computed and presented, discussing also the Poisson effect on the solutions

La nascita dei Sicarî. Dall’ἀρχιλῃστής Ezechia al σοφιστής Giuda il Galileo

At the beginning of the Bellum Judaicum, Josephus states that the main cause of the defeat against the Romans has been the στάσις οἰκεία, the harsh conflict that has characterized all of the Jewish communities. Between the Ist century BC and the Ist AD, the élites of the main religious sects of Palestine (Zealots, Pharisees, Sadducees) had woven difficult diplomatic relations with the Romans; at the same time many ephemeral demagogues, with their messianic sermons, instigated the masses to rebellion. Very particular is the case of the Sicarî; born with the revolt of Judas the Galilean at the time of the census of Quirinius, they became, in the course of the Ist century AD, the most violent sect of Palestine, hated by Josephus for their intransigence and their crimes; during the revolt of 66 AD, however, the Sicarî didn’t participate in anti-Roman war, they migrated to Jerusalem and established themselves in the herodian fortress of Masada. Our goal is to trace the history and the migration of this sect, explaining its ideology and its particular conception of royalty which does not allow other rule except God. We also aim at analyzing the story of the incredible death of the Sicari and its consequences on the modern era: on the top of Masada, 960 Sicarii men, women, and children, motivated by the words of their leader Eleazar, a descendant of Judas the Galilean, committed collective suicide rather than face shameful capture by the Romans. After 1948, the new state of Israel, totally forgetting the historiographical judgment of Joseph, praised the fighters of Masada as national heroes in order to create a myth on which to build a national identity. Josephus provides the only source for this incident. His description of the events, therefore, deserves close scrutiny. Many scholars, in fact, have examined all of the assertions of Josephus, juxtaposing his written record with archeological findings and knowledge of Roman military imperial tactics

State of the art of item-level RFID deployments in fashion and apparel retail

    No full text
Fashion and apparel retail have been driving the adoption of RFID for the last 10 years. This paper strives to present an overview of the current adoption of RFID technology in this sector and to improve the understanding of the evolution of use cases (UCs) over time by proposing a framework for the UC lifecycle. This tool allows us to classify UCs with six different labels (core, intermittent, trendy, vintage, innovative or ghost) according to three dimensions. We analysed and classified more than 220 scientific papers, magazine articles, white papers, web news stories and press releases as well as confidential information from system integrators dealing with UHF RFID projects in fashion and apparel retail in recent decades. We are not aware of any other study covering this issue, and the results we obtain represent an updated and thorough overview of UHF RFID adoption in the fashion industry. We believe that, by keeping the framework updated, we could create a barometer of RFID adoption in fashion and apparel retail while obtaining further insights on UC evolution over time

Deep learning and WLC: How to set realistic delivery dates in high variety manufacturing systems

    No full text
The focus is on workload control, a production planning and control technique that reduces and stabilizes the total throughput time. In these conditions, defining realistic delivery dates should become easier, yet the use of basic techniques often proves to be ineffective. Hence, we propose using statistical and/or neural network techniques to estimate, starting from the current workload of the job shop, the expected lead time of entry jobs, and to use this estimation to define reliable delivering dates. To test the approach, we simulated a 6-machines job-shop and we make predictions using a multi-regressive linear model and a multi-layer neural network. In terms of tardy jobs, both approaches performed very well, with the neural network providing the best results

Design processes for enhancing museums through the use of technology and the involvement of local communities

    No full text
The present contribution aims to present three different models that describe how a design process can advance a territory by enhancing its cultural heritage through museum exhibition systems. The models were developed starting from the analysis of four case studies: Museo Audiovisivo della Resistenza, Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra, Atlantic Wall and Coordinamento delle Case Museo dei Poeti e Scrittori di Romagna. These case studies were selected and described on the basis of the characteristics they share: a strong connection with the territory, its history and its residents, the use of technology to improve the visitor experience and a participative approach to the design and development of the exhibition. The result of the case study analysis leads to the identification of three models: the first model is based on an interactive museum with custom technologies, the second on an interactive museum with a customizable system, and the third on an interactive museum with an open-source approach. In particular, the three models show that a greater degree of openness contributes to a greater involvement of local communities and a systemic enhancement of the territory
