A Fuzzy GA Based STATCOM for Power Quality Improvement

    Get PDF
This paper deals with various power issues such as voltage sag, swell, harmonics, and surges using static synchronous compensator (STATCOM).The conventional controller suffers from uncertain parameters and non-linear qualities. However they are computationally inefficient extending to optimize the fuzzy controller (FC) parameters, since they exhaustively search the optimal values to optimize the objective functions. To overcome this drawback, a genetic algorithm (GA) based Fuzzy controller parameter optimization is presented in this paper. The GA algorithm is used to find the optimal fuzzy parameters for minimizing the objective functions. The feasibility of the proposed GA technique for distribution systems to improve the sag and total harmonic Distortion (THD) as major power quality indices in sensitive loads at fault conditions has been simulated and tested. Therefore, the multi-objective optimization algorithm is considered in order to attain a better performance in solving the related problems

    Get PDF
An increasing efficiency of the solar system can be improved by using hybrid cooling mechanism. This paper presents the impact of hybrid cooling mechanism on PV panel under indoor testing with varying solar intensity. Thus, the fabrication of a solar simulator for indoor testing reacts as the space solar radiation is described. The performance of PV panel which attached to a hybrid cooling mechanism compared with PV panel without cooling mechanism under variation of average solar radiation. Experimental tests were carried out for various average solar radiations by varying the number of lamps and/or the lamp-to-area distance. Without altering the spectral distribution, the characteristic of current-voltage of PV panel was analysed under average solar radiation which varied from 202 W/m2 to 1003 W/m2. As the result, the PV panel with hybrid cooling system explored to generate more power output with decreasing in PV panel temperature. About 15.79 % increment of power output generated by PV panel with cooling at maximum average solar radiation. Furthermore, the PV panel temperature also can be decreased about 10.28 % respectively. The combination of DC fan and water pump as cooling mechanism plays an important role in generating efficient power output from PV panel

Dynamic Key Matrix of Hill Cipher Using Genetic Algorithm

    Get PDF
The matrix in Hill Cipher was designed to perform encryption and decryption. Every column and row must be inserted by integer numbers. But, not any key that can be given to the matrix used for the process. The wrong determinant result cannot be used in the process because it produces the incorrect plaintext when doing the decryption after the encryption. Genetic algorithms offer the optimized way to determine the key used for encryption and decryption on the Hill Cipher. By determining the evaluation function in the genetic algorithm, the key that fits the composition will be obtained. By implementing this algorithm, the search of the key on the Hill Cipher will be easily done without spending too much time. Genetic algorithms do well if it is combined with Hill Cipher

    No full text
This paper aims at improving voltage profile and reducing the losses of active and reactive powers. The impact of wind turbines on voltage profile and power losses in critical buses is evaluated. Wind turbines, reactive power resources, i.e. thyristor-switched series capacitors, are connected to the network in mentioned states. In this study different conditions are individually and simultaneously considered with/without the wind turbines and thyristor-switched series capacitors in normal states of the network. Next, voltage profile, active power, reactive power, and the network losses are dealt with in the presence/absence of wind turbines and thyristor-switched series capacitors considering a sudden fault occurred in one power line, and the simulation results are compared with each other. The results indicate that using thyristor-switched capacitors together with the wind farm can provide enough active and reactive power for the network which increases the network capacity and decreases its losses using genetic algorithms

Initially a theory, today fuzzy logic has become an operational technique. Used alongside other advanced control techniques, it is making a discrete but appreciated appearance in various electric systems. In the majority of present-day applications, fuzzy logic allows many kinds of designer and operator qualitative knowledge in electrical automation to be taken into account. Fuzzy logic began to interest the media at the beginning of the nineties. The numerous applications in electrical and electronic household appliances, particularly in Japan, were mainly responsible for such interest. Washing machines not requiring adjustment, camcorders with Steadyshot (TM) image stabilization and many other innovations brought the term “fuzzy logic” to the attention of a wide public

A Novel Analysis of Improving Displacement Factor Using IVDFC in Distribution Systems

    Get PDF
In this paper discuss the new approach for improving displacement factor using an Interline Dynamic Voltage Restoring and Displacement Factor Controlling Device (IVDFC) in a distribution system. An Interline Dynamic Voltage Restorer (IDVR) is perpetually engaged in distribution systems to mitigate voltage sag/swell problems. An IDVR simply consists of numerous dynamic voltage restorers (DVRs) sharing a common dc link connecting independent feeders to safe electric power to critical loads. The IDVR is operated that it hold the voltage across the critical load bus terminals constant at system nominal frequency irrespective of the changes occurring in source voltages frequency. While one of the DVRs compensates for the local voltage sag in its feeder, the other DVRs reload the common dc-link voltage. For normal voltage levels, the DVRs should be bypassed. Instead of bypassing the DVRs in normal conditions, this paper proposes operating the DVRs, if needed, to improve the displacement factor (DF) of one of the involved feeders. DF improvement can be achieved via active and reactive power exchange (PQ sharing) between different feeders. To successfully apply this concept, several constraints are addressed throughout the paper. The simulation model for this system is developed using MATLAB which is shown that the voltage across the critical load is regulated completely

Induction Motor Drive based on Efficiency Optimisation andDrive Loss Minimization in Real-Time Control of Linkage Flux of Drive Reference

    No full text
Induction motor drives are commonly used for applications with vast variations in mechanical load for torques under nominal values. HVAC loads are among these loads. The most ideal scheme for induction motor drive design should include drive loss reduction, or efficiency improvement, proportional to load torque such that optimal performance of drive is not affected. In this paper, using analytical methods, an accurate model is proposed for induction motor drive design. This model allows us to utilize real control and classical control theory for better performance of drive control system. The most damaging mechanical load for induction motor drive is impulse load or so-called periodic load. A scheme proposed for power loss control includes loss control for this type of load, meanwhile, robustness of drive system and stator frequency stability are retained. Main advantages for this scheme are applicability and implementation on various induction motor drives with various powers, without any specific requirements and the least possible computation for the processors
