Recent developments in offshore wind energy systems: Technologies and practices
This paper deals with offshore wind power generation technologies, power transmission and grid communication features, and associated power system studies for effective implementation of offshore wind energy systems, explaining its various stages of implementation. Also, this paper reviews the latest trends in offshore wind energy systems, addressing various aspects like large wind farm siting, power evacuation studies, cable selection, high-voltage direct current/flexible alternating current transmission systems (HVDC/FACTS) technology options, reliability evaluation, and autonomous monitoring. India's renewable power generation capacity through off-shore wind generation is also outlined to ensure low carbon energy emissions with improved energy efficiency. The policy and regulatory framework factors for reaching five gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind projects in the states of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat by the year 2032 using current methods and advanced technology are discussed here. This goal can be accomplished using current practices and advanced technologies. For effective implementation of offshore wind farms, suitable measures and likely actions by various stakeholders are suggested
Feasibility analysis of single wire earth return system for potential application in rural electrification in Nigeria
Traditionally, three-phase networks are used to transmit electric power to consumers. However, due to its high initial cost, many isolated rural communities are yet to have access to electricity. Thus, the single wire earth return (SWER) architecture, which uses the earth as the return path, attracts significant cost savings. In this paper, the potential application of the SWER system for rural electrification in Nigeria was presented. The cost-effectiveness of the SWER system which is about 70% less than the three-phase configuration, is due to the need for fewer cables, pole-top fittings, switching, and protection devices. Initially, the dynamic modeling of the equivalent SWER system was derived for the MATLAB simulation analysis. The pertinent parameters of the realized system, namely, micro-former leakage reactance, the resistive and inductive value of the single-phase network, were determined and employed for the SIMULINK and the repetitive power flow analyses. The results obtained from the power flow analysis and the simulation models for different loading conditions were found to agree with an error margin of +5%. This demonstrates that the proposed prototype can be adopted to reduce the prevalent energy poverty and thereby improved the quality of life of rural dwellers in Nigeria
An evolutionary algorithm for the solution of multi-objective optimization problem
Worldwide, COVID-19 widespread has a significant impact on a great number of people. The hospital admittance issue for patients with COVID-19 has been optimized by previous research. Identifying the symptoms that can be used to determine a patient's health status, whether they are dead or alive is a difficult task for medical professionals. To solve this issue, the multi-objective group counseling optimization (MOGCO) algorithm was used to control this problem. First, the zitzler-deb-thiele (ZDT)-2 benchmark function is used to evaluate the MOGCO, multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO), and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA) II. In comparison to MOPSO and NSGA-II, MOGCO is closest to the Pareto front line according to graphic statistics on different fitness evolution values such as 4000, 6000, 8000, and 10000. As a result, MOGCO is used for COVID-19 data optimization. Moreover, six symptoms (heart rate, oxygen saturation, fever, body pain, flue, and breath) were optimized to see if the COVID-19 patients were still alive. The information was gathered from GitHub. Based on the minimum and maximum values of these symptoms obtained by the suggested method, the optimum study shows that COVID-19 patients can remain alive
A nulling-resistor output amplifier in the framework of heterostructures based on nonlinear partial differential equations
In this paper, we introduce an approach to increase the density of field-effect transistors framework nulling-resistor output amplifier. In the framework of the approach, we consider manufacturing the amplifier in a heterostructure with a specific configuration. Several required areas of the heterostructure should be doped by diffusion or ion implantation. After that dopant and radiation defects should be annealed framework optimized scheme. We also consider an approach to decrease the value of mismatch-induced stress in the considered heterostructure. We introduce an analytical approach to analyze mass and heat transport in heterostructures during the manufacturing of integrated circuits with account for mismatch-induced stress.
Skin cancers image classification using transformation and first order statistic features with artificial neural network classifier
Skin cancer is one of the most dangerous types of cancer. Some types of this cancer lead to death, so cancer must be discovered and indexed to avoid its spread through initial detection in the impulsive stage. This paper deals with the detection and indexing of different types of melanomas using an artificial neural network (ANN) depending on the international skin imaging collaboration (ISIC) 2018 dataset that was used. The pre-processing is the most important part because it formulates an image by insolated the cancer part from the skin image. It consists of four stages, removable, cropping, thinning, and normalization. This phase has been used to eliminate all the undesirable hair particles on the image lesion. The cropped image transforms into frequency domain coefficients using discrete cosine transform (DCT), discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and gradient transform for sub-band images to extract its feature. The statistical feature extraction is implemented to minimize the size of data for ANN training. The experimental analysis used dataset ISIC 2018 consisting of seven different types of dermoscopic images (this paper deals with four types only). For classification purposes, ANN was implemented and the accuracy obtained is about 88.98% for DWT, 85.44% for sub-band DCT, and 76.07% for sub-band gradient transform
Modelling minicab drivers' disordered behaviour for choosing passenger and destination in Akure, Nigeria
This study investigated the disordered behaviour of minicab drivers for choosing passenger and destination in Akure using the multinomial model and nested logit model respectively. Information was gathered by the distribution of questionnaires to minicab drivers plying the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) North gate to the Oja-Oba axis in Akure, Nigeria. The objectives were to validate the performance of logit models; to identify the major parameters for selecting passenger and destination by disordered minicab drivers, and to examine the interrelationships of variables employed. Primary data was obtained from 314 respondents. The study found that the nested logit model gives a better utility value than the multinomial logit model with ρ02 = 0.48 more than ρc2 = 0.46 which justifies the assertion. Also, the major parameters for selecting passengers and destination by disordered minicab drivers in Akure are transport rates variable, distance variable, and travel time variable. The study recommends that an accurate pricing policy of minicab operation should be efficiently formulated, implemented, and enacted to prevent overcharging and undercharging
A review on efficiency improvement methods in organic Rankine cycle system: an exergy approach
Exergy, one of the handed-down energy conservation techniques, which can obtain from thermodynamic laws (first and second), will disclose the work presented within the system, the amount of irreversibility as well as what are the possible ways to reduce inefficiencies in the system. This discourse mainly highlighted various techniques and possible methods for efficiency improvement in the organic Rankine cycle (ORC). That means mainly concentrated on following key parameters like the selection of working fluid, suitable expander, the different heat sources of an evaporator, and modifications in heat exchanger based on the application of ORC system through an exergy approach for better performance, decrease energy losses, and destruction rate. This review can help to pontificate for better-summarized results that were done before and suggest some ideas for how to select an optimized parameter for better efficiency and to decrease the destruction rate in the ORC system.
An overview of the potential of Citrus hystrix (kaffir lime) essential oil as mosquito repellent
A chemical-based insect repellent such as N, N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide (DEET) is commonly used against all insects despite its toxicity in humans. Hence, a repellent agent from natural sources of plant essential oil was introduced. Some of the plants which have the repellent potential are catnip, hairy basil, citronella, vetiver, clove, and citrus. Citronellal, citronellol, geraniol, eugenol, eugenol-acetate, and beta-caryophyllene are among the repellent active components in these plants. Citrus hystrix (kaffir lime) was known for several applications in food, health, and skincare, but its potential as mosquito repellent is still new. This overview paper highlights the potential of kaffir lime essential oil as a mosquito repellent and the encapsulation of essential oil related to mosquito repellent. Several studies on kaffir lime essential oil as mosquito repellent was conducted and revealed that the major repellent active components are citronellol and limonene. Pure kaffir lime essential oil provides one-hour repellent protection against the mosquito. However, an addition of 5% vanillin prolongs the protection time to three hours. Essential oil is easily vaporized at room temperature which shortens its effectiveness time. Encapsulation of the essential oil would control the vaporization process and hence prolong its efficiency. Nonetheless, almost no research work reported on the encapsulation of kaffir lime essential oil and the release mechanism of the encapsulated kaffir lime
On prognosis of variation of properties of multilayer structure by preliminary processing of the substrate
In this paper, we analyze the effect of the preliminary processing of substrate on the properties of the grown heterostructure. It has been shown that the growth of an epitaxial layer on a buffer layer after preliminary (before starting of growth) annealing makes it possible to decrease the value of mismatch-induced stress. An analytical approach has been introduced for the analysis of mass and heat transfer in a multilayer structure with account mismatch-induced stress
Simulation model of 1-phase pulse-width modulation rectifier by using MATLAB/Simulink
One of the problems that need to be solved is the difference in the type of nutrition from the load. The feeding may be from a constant current source such as batteries and solar cells, and there are alternating current sources such as diesel machines, wind energy, and various power plants. All of these sources need electronic power devices that help convert and regulate the control and control of the type of feeding on the one hand and its amount on the other. From here, we show the size of the challenge occupied by electronic power transformers, as they are considered the solution to many problems of transmission, distribution, and feeding systems for different loads. The current study sheds light on one of the types of electronic power systems, which is unified. Choosing and suggesting a set of single-phase unifying circuits to conduct simulations and come up with results that are analyzed to show the function of the non-electronic modulators. In the current simulation, tests were carried out for a group of circuits that need direct current (DC) power, and their available source of supply is an alternating current source to different departments to access a set of data that enables researchers to conduct appropriate analyzes to perform them, by discussing those results
