Using Augmented Reality for the Development of Sustainable Development Goals: An Experience with Students at Risk of Social Exclusion Computational Media and the Paradox of Permanence

    No full text
For personal and socioeconomic development, education is a fundamental element. However, despite its relevance and importance, there is no inclusive education that allows access to the entire population. This is especially noticeable in contexts where students are at risk of exclusion. This paper presents a project that aims to reduce the technological gap in the most disadvantaged social classes by promoting the use of Augmented Reality technology. To this end, an experience with children at risk of social exclusion is presented, in which they participated in two training workshops over two weeks, organized into two groups, where one group used Augmented Reality with Tablets and the other did not. The objective of the experience was to assess the impact of using this technology on the emotional state of the students, as well as on the development of computational thinking competence. The results show that students who used Augmented Reality significantly improved their academic results in block programming compared to those who did not use it. Additionally, it was found that the emotional state of the former was generally more pleasant compared to the latter

    Get PDF
The plasma membrane is a fluid structure made up of lipids and proteins and delimits the cell of all living organisms. It has the primary function of a selective barrier, regulating the exchange of substances between the cell and its environment. The membrane is a fragile structure and is only intact in aqueous media and at a certain temperature range. This article presents a simple protocol to explore the structure and function of the plasma membrane, examining its sensitivity to temperature variations and the impact of organic solvents. Using beetroot cells (Beta vulgaris) as a model, and focussing specifically on the pigment betalain, thermal and chemical stress was induced to assess membrane rupture. The study sought to deepen the students\u27 understanding of membrane integrity and its implications for wider biological systems.A membrana plasmática é uma estrutura fluída, constituída por lípidos e proteínas, e delimita a célula de todos os organismos vivo. In recent decades, the Silk Road known as one of the world\u27s most valuable international tourism destinations, which is a bridge between great civilizations in the East and West. This study focuses on the Silk Road in Iran as a case study and tries to identify tourism strategies for promoting Silk Road tourism in Iran. The data was gathered through an interview form. A qualitative method (content analysis) through MAXQDA software was used to analyse the data. The results illustrate that product development, conglomerate diversification, concentric diversification, joint venture, and market penetration are five strategies that can promote Silk Road tourism in Iran. Further investigation revealed seven operational solutions for product development and conglomerate diversification, divided into four categories. In addition, concentric diversification and joint venture strategies include ten and five operational solutions respectively. Lastly, the market penetration strategy is classified into six categories

Using case studies to analyze the impact of deglobalization on regional tourism

    No full text
Deglobalization is a trend of thought that seeks to reduce or reverse economic, political, and cultural integration among nations. The tourism industry depends on international cooperation, and regional tourism development is essential for economic growth in developing countries. Success depends on several external factors, including deglobalization, regional policies, international policies, and economic conditions. This paper aims to examine the effects of three representative deglobalization events (Brexit, Zero- policy, Russo-Ukrainian War) on the regional tourism industry. Through the analysis of these events, we seek to understand how deglobalization has influenced the development and dynamics of regional tourism, and shed light on the challenges and opportunities that this trend presents to the tourism sector. Through a comparison of statistical data before and after extreme events, this study aims to observe the impact of the anti-globalization trend on the development of regional tourism, and provide a comprehensive analysis of the underlying factors influencing these changes. In conclusion, the sustainability and growth of the tourism industry are influenced by international and regional policies in the short term, while long-term success depends on the interplay between tourist demand, market trends, and local resources, requiring ongoing analysis and strategic planning to balance economic goals with the preservation of ecological, cultural, and social integrity

    Get PDF
The main objective of this study was to identify the key hotel attributes that are highly valued by business tourists. Firstly, a literature review was conducted, then the researchers examined a set of characteristics of hotels listed in the National Tourism Register in Portugal to understand how they cater to the needs of business tourism. Additionally, the study investigated guests\u27 evaluations of these hotels using Booking.com ratings and Python programming language. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted on relevant variables, and QGIS was used to map the distribution of business hotels in the country. The analysis revealed that a set of attributes, such as superior quality of service, availability of amenities for business travellers (such as workspaces, meeting rooms, and connectivity), and opportunities for leisure and recreation, are frequently associated with business hotels. This research can aid hotel management and investment decisions by providing insight into the most valued attributes of business hotels and how they target this market segment.O principal objetivo deste estudo consiste em identificar os principais atributos hoteleiros que são mais valorizados pelos turistas de negócios.

    Get PDF
This study aims to determine the rate of adoption of circular economy in a number of fields related initiatives in Gran Canaria and Madeira. The topic of climate change and the need to transform the paradigm of environmental sustainability in practical steps through the concept of circular economy are the order of the day. That said, the evidence available suggests that the concept of circular economy is complex, and difficult to operationalize. Not surprisingly, the rate of adoption is quite low. The results of this study, based on 90 observations, are based on multivariate statistics and LASSO-Poisson regression. The findings of this study shows that the rate of adoption depends mainly on the hotel´s managers attitudes expressed on their degree of commitment to Circular Economy agenda. The results point to positive spillover effects, as the degree of adoption of each field is dependent on the values ascribed to the other fields under consideration. The control variables under analysis are mainly irrelevant. Significant differences are computed for Gran Canaria and Madeira, in line with the predominant type of tourism products.

    Get PDF
The present study aims to investigate the effect of the quality of institutions on tourism development in a panel of 9 Mediterranean countries from the European Union for the time period of 1996-2021. The development of tourism is measured by the number of arrivals in tourism. The control variables used, which also represent the determinants of tourism, are GDP growth rate, inflation, higher education, quality of the environment, and trade. Quality of institutions indexes is constructed based on indicators of government effectiveness, political stability, regulatory quality, rule of law, and voice and accountability. In order to estimate the impact of selected determinants in the development of tourism, we used the Generalized Method of Moments-GMM model. According to the obtained results, it can be concluded that there is a positive connection between the quality of institutions and tourism. The results of this research should provide insight into the most important determinants of management and institutions and explain more deeply their influence on events in the sphere of tourism. All of the above knowledge should be of interest to the management bodies in charge of creating national development strategie
