    Classification of MeMory InTerventions: rationale and developmental process of the COMMIT tool

    Over the last decades, numerous memory interventions havebeen developed to mitigate memory decline in normalageing. However, there is a large variability in the successof memory interventions, and it remains poorly understoodwhich memory intervention programs are most effectiveand for whom. This is partially explained by theheterogeneity of memory intervention protocols acrossstudies as well as often poor reporting of the study design.To facilitate a reporting framework that enables researchersto systemize the content and design of memoryintervention paradigms, we developed the Classification OfMeMory InTerventions (COMMIT) tool using a 3-stagedevelopmental process. Briefly, COMMIT was based onqualitative content analysis of already existing memoryintervention studies published between April 1983 and July2020, and iteratively validated by both internal andexternal expert panels. COMMIT provides an easily-applicable interactive tool that enables systematicdescription of memory intervention studies, together withinstructions on how to use this classification tool. Our maingoal is to provide a tool that enables the reporting andclassification of memory interventions in a transparent,comprehensible, and complete manner, to ensure a bettercomparability between memory interventions, and, toultimately contribute to the question which memoryintervention shows the greatest benefits

    Robots and norms of care: a comparative analysis of the reception of robotic assistance in nursing

    The present study explores the question of intercultural differences in attitudes towards robotic assistance for care work, by using the concept of “norms of care” as a tertium comparationis for systematic comparative analysis. The main hypothesis is that normative expectations of what constitutes appropriate care work will affect the way how professional caregivers interpret the offers of technological assistance from care robotics. Based on this concept, we have empirically investigated how the reception of assistive robot technology in nursing care takes place and which phenomena emerge as significant intercultural differences. For this purpose, we have conducted HRI experiments with robotic arms designed for telemanipulated assistance for nursing tasks at the bedside, followed by individual interviews with test subjects. Our comparative analysis shows that significant intercultural differences can be found in framing the norm of care: while the German caregivers focus on the question of whether the sphere of interpersonal trust relationship can be maintained in case of a robotization of care services and problematize the potential threat to dignity of individuals, the non-German caregivers generally follow a collective principle of care relationship and apply it as a central criterion for moral evaluation of technology use

    Release of tephra-hosted iron during early diagenesis fingerprinted by iron isotopes

    The micronutrient iron (Fe) plays a fundamental role controlling primary productivity in the upper ocean, with volcanic eruptions and deposition of airborne volcanic material (termed tephra) a potential source of Fe. Here, we investigate the geochemical and Fe isotopic (δ56Fe) composition of tephra layers, sediments, and mixed tephra-sediment samples from the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Hole 1396C, located offshore the volcanically active island of Montserrat in the Lesser Antilles, Caribbean Sea. We find that buried tephras, which have experienced diagenesis, exhibit lighter δ56Fe (relative to standard IRMM-524a) compositions (down to −0.26 ± 0.04‰, 2SD) than fresh tephra deposited in Montserrat (δ56Fe = 0.02 ± 0.02‰, 2SD). Such negative values suggest that isotopically heavier Fe has been lost from the originally deposited material. Using multivariate statistical modelling and mass balance constraints, we identify the outward Fe flux (with calculated δ56Fe of 0.21 ± 0.31‰, 2SD, n = 12) during non-reductive dissolution of tephra as the likely cause of the retention of these light δ56Fe compositions. Due to the widespread nature of tephra deposition, tephra diagenesis may provide an important source of isotopically heavy dissolved Fe (dFe) to the oceans. This process contrasts with more commonly considered reductive dissolution processes, which provide a source of dFe enriched in light isotopes to the oceans

    Trends in cancer incidence by socioeconomic deprivation in Germany in 2007 to 2018: an ecological registry‐based study

    Age-standardized cancer incidence has decreased over the last years for many cancer sites in developed countries. Whether these trends led to narrowing or widening socioeconomic inequalities in cancer incidence is unknown. Using cancer registry data covering 48 million inhabitants in Germany, the ecological association between age-standardized total and site specific (colorectal, lung, prostate and breast) cancer incidence in 2007 to 2018 and a deprivation index on district level (aggregated to quintiles) was investigated. Incidence in the most and least deprived districts were compared using Poisson models. Average annual percentage changes (AAPCs) and differences in AAPCs between deprivation quintiles were assessed using Joinpoint regression analyses. Age-standardized incidence decreased strongly between 2007 and 2018 for total cancer and all cancer sites (except female lung cancer), irrespective of the level of deprivation. However, differences in the magnitude of trends across deprivation quintiles resulted in increasing inequalities over time for total cancer, colorectal and lung cancer. For total cancer, the incidence rate ratio between the most and least deprived quintile increased from 1.07 (95% confidence interval: 1.01-1.12) to 1.23 (1.12-1.32) in men and from 1.07 (1.01-1.13) to 1.20 (1.14-1.26) in women. Largest inequalities were observed for lung cancer with 82% (men) and 88% (women) higher incidence in the most vs the least deprived regions in 2018. The observed increase in inequalities in cancer incidence is in alignment with trends in inequalities in risk factor prevalence and partly utilization of screening. Intervention programs targeted at socioeconomically deprived and urban regions are highly needed

Dieses besteht aus dem Pflegeinnovationszentrum (PIZ), angesiedelt in Oldenburg und Bremen sowie vier weiteren Pflegepraxiszentren (PPZ) in Berlin, Freiburg, Hannover und Nürnberg. Die 6. Clusterkonferenz hat das PIZ organisiert und wurde von dem Koordinator des PIZ, dem OFFIS – Institut für Informatik, vom 20. bis 22. September 2023 in Oldenburg ausgerichtet.     Wir betrachten den Lorentzschen Dirac-Operator auf Zeit-kompakten global hyperbolischen Spin Mannigfaltigkeiten gerader Dimension mit nicht kompakter, raumartiger Cauchy-Hyperfläche, welche aufgrund der Kompaktheit der Zeit-Domäne zwei raumartige Randhyperflächen impliziert. Insbesondere betrachten wir die Cauchy-Hyperfläche als Galois-Überlagerung mit geschlossener Basis. Der zu betrachtende Dirac Operator entspricht dem gleichen Dirac Operator auf der Basis, welcher auf die Überlagerung geliftet wurde. Wir beweisen, dass dieser Lift unter (verallgemeinerten) Atiyah-Patodi-Singer Randbedingungen Breuer-Fredholm ist. Die hier vorgestellte Beweisstrategie basiert auf den Ausführungen und Ergebnissen für kompakte Hyperflächen von Christian Bär und Alexander Strohmaier für gewöhnliche Atiyah-Patodi-Singer Randbedingungen; der Fall verallgemeinerter Atiyah-Patodi-Singer Randbedingungen beruht auf Ergebnissen von Christian Bär und Sebastian Hannes für den Fall kompakter Cauchy-Hyperflächen
