Empirische Studie zur Entwicklung einer Methodik für eine bessere Vergleichbarkeit zwischen historischen und aktuellen Karten
Get PDFIn the investigation of urban development over centuries, the comparison of appropriate maps forms an essential component. The aim of this project is an improvement of an effective and intuitive comparison of historical and current map features. An adjustment of uniform visual variables to individual maps is therefore suggested. An appropriate framework presenting potential solutions for the deployment of a new methodology is based on the analyzed users’ demands. These requirements were identified and evaluated with the aid of purposive sampled experts interviewed with a pencil and paper questionnaire. Two major challenges concerning the comparison between historical and current maps were revealed in a statistical evaluation: a general lack of technical tools and great varieties in semiology. The familiarity with their semiology has the greatest effect on the identification and distinction of map features. Therefore, an adaption of color composition, textures, and labels seems crucial in particular. Various approaches such as feature extraction or similarity measures to meet the mentioned challenges are suggested for future research
Collaborative Innovation Online: Entanglements of the Making of Content, Skills, and Community on a Songwriting Platform
Get PDFThis chapter advances our understanding of collaborative innovation processes that span across organizational boundaries by providing an ethnographic account of idea generation dynamics in a member-initiated online songwriting community. Applying a science and technology studies perspective on processes “in the making,” the findings of this chapter reveal the generative entanglements of three processes of content-in-the-making, skill-in-the-making, and community-in-the-making that were triggered and maintained over time by temporary stabilizations of provisional, interim outcomes. These findings also elucidate interferences between these three processes, particularly when an increased focus on songs as products undermines the ongoing collaborative production of ideas. Regular interventions in the community design were necessary to simultaneously stimulate the three processes and counteract interfering tendencies that either prioritized content production, community building, or skill development, respectively. The authors conclude that firms seeking to tap into online communities’ innovative potential need to appreciate community and skill development as creative processes in their own right that have to be fostered and kept in sync with content production

Get PDFDas Entwicklungskonzept Stadtbäume stellt eine strategische Handlungsgrundlage für die Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg dar, die helfen soll, den Altbaumbestand zu sichern sowie Standortanforderungen für künftige Pflanzungen und Vorschläge zur Eignung von Arten zu definieren. Dabei kann das Konzept dazu dienen, die Belange des Stadtgrüns besser zu kommunizieren und durchzusetzen.
Das Konzept ist auf Basis der Arbeiten in dem vom Bunderministeriums für Umwelt, Naturschutz und nukleare Sicherheit (BMU) und der Behörde für Umwelt und Energie der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg (BUE) geförderten Forschungsprojektes "Stadtbäum im Klimawandel (SIK)" entstanden.
Das zentrale Ziel des Entwicklungskonzeptes ist die Anpassung des Hamburger Bestandes der Stadtbäume an den Klimawandel. Das Konzept beinhaltet einen Vorschlag für ein Klimafolgen-Monitoring für Straßenbäume sowie die Entwicklung von Strategien und Maßnahmen zur Anpassung der Straßenbäume an den Klimawandel. Die Vulnerabilität (Verwundbarkeit) von Baumarten gegenüber Trockenstress wird auf Basis einer umfangreichen Datenerhebung bewertet. Weiterhin werden Instrumente identifiziert und systematisiert, um die Planungen und Maßnahmen zu implementieren.
Im Rahmen des Vorhabens wurde ein interdisziplinärer regionaler Verbund „Stadtbäume im Klimawandel“ etabliert, in dem die grundlegenden Ergebnisse der Forschungsergebnisse und des Konzeptes diskutiert und reflektiert wurden.
Das Konzept wurde mit modellhaftem Charakter für den Straßenbaumbestand Hamburgs erarbeitet, so dass eine Übertragbarkeit auf andere Räume in Hamburg aber auch andere Städte in Deutschland grundsätzlich möglich wird

Der Moment der gemeinsamen Entscheidung ist zentral für selbstverwaltete Gruppen, stellt es doch dar, was den Wunsch nach Selbstverwaltung überhaupt begründet: Selbstbestimmung und Kollektivität. Doch gemeinsames Entscheiden ist zeitaufwendig und nicht selten herrscht eine schlechte Stimmung. Dies zeigt sich auch in der die Erfahrung mit mehr als 400 Plenen in den letzten achteinhalb Jahren des Hamburger Gängeviertels. Diese Arbeit hat es zum Ziel, ihren Teil dazu beizutragen, Abstimmungsprozesse in Kollektiven zu erforschen und Strategien zu Verbesserung dieser Prozesse auszuarbeiten.
Wie kann man Abstimmungsprozesse gestalten, damit sie als motivierend und effektiv empfunden werden? Zur Erweiterung der wenigen bestehenden Untersuchungen, sollen die performativen Dimensionen der Entscheidung; ihre Zeitlichkeit, Medialität, Körperlichkeit und Räumlichkeit untersucht und genutzt werden. Welche Rolle spielen performative Faktoren für die Gestaltung der Stimmung und der Abstimmung? Zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen, wird eine künstlerisch-wissenschaftliche Perspektive eröffnet die es ermöglicht neue Erkenntnisse über die Gestaltbarkeit von Abstimmungsprozessen zu generieren. Anhand von zwei künstlerischen Forschungsprojekten, die im Forschungstheater gemeinsam mit Kindern, Künstler*innen, Architekt*innen und Stadtplaner*innen stattgefunden haben, wird die Handlung des Abstimmens erforscht, erprobt und in Szene gesetzt. Schließlich können die Ergebnisse aus den künstlerischen Forschungsprojekten angewandt werden auf das kollektive Entscheiden in politischen Gruppen und die Gestaltung des Akt des Entscheidens.The theatre of decision-making: The role of performance in the act of voting.
The moment of collective decision-making is crucial for self-governing groups as it represents what generates the desire for self-governance in the first place: self-determination and collectivity.
However, collective decision-making is time-consuming and not seldom the atmosphere is tensed. This is also the experience of more than 400 plenary assemblies at the Gängeviertel in Hamburg in the past eight-and-a-half years. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to the research of collective voting processes and to develop strategies for improving these processes. How can voting processes be constructed so that they are perceived as motivating and effective?
To expand on the few existing studies, the performative dimensions of decision-making, i.e. its temporality, its mediality, its physicality and its spatiality, are analysed and applied. What role do performative factors play for the construction of voting processes and their atmosphere? These questions are answered from a practice-based research perspective that enables new insights into the creation and design of voting processes.
Based on two artistic research projects, which took place at the Theatre of Research together with children, artists, architects and urban planners, the action of voting is researched, rehearsed and staged. Finally, the results of the artistic research projects can be applied to the collective decision-making in political groups and to the construction of the act of decision-making

A Space of Performing Citizenship: The Gängeviertel in Hamburg
Get PDFA performative perspective on citizenship allows us to overcome conventional views of citizenship and points a spotlight on the question of how people articulate claims as rights (Isin, Performative citizenship. In Shachar A, Bauböck R, Bloemraad I, Vink M (ed) Oxford handbook of citizenship, Oxford University Press, Oxford, pp 500–523, 2017). In this chapter, I will focus on this question by using the example of the Gängeviertel—the abandoned quarter in the middle of Hamburg that was occupied by an activist initiative in 2009. Since then, the Gängeviertel activists continue to publicly articulate claims concerning the self-management of the place and the right to the city. They apply these practices in situ, and therewith continuously produce a space of performing citizenship. I will illustrate some of these practices and point out how they contribute to an effective articulation of claims with the help of a spatial entanglement of the public to the place. With reference to Lefebvre’s concept of the production of social space, I will show thereby that place-specific conditions play a particular and important role
