    The role of both English and vernacular press was commendable particularly in disseminating information on freedom struggle to the people, educating them on the political developments, initiating debates and discussions on political issues, mobilizing the masses for the cause of independence etc., Annie Besant tried to create a suitable atmosphere for Indians to gain some rights from England by moulding public opinion through several media. After having made a case for India in England she returned to India in the year 1914 to find herself the editor of a daily newspaper New India. The strong protest emerged from various quarters for the internment of Besant,  the editor of New India could speak volumes about its work for the freedom and the  influence of the paper on the people particularly the educated elites and the youth

    In this paper, estimation of velocity, maximum velocity, dynamic pressure of snow avalanche release and Run-out zone distance over mountain regions are studied. To investigate of mathematical model, we have been taken gravitational, turbulent and friction forces with momentum equation. Computation of flow parameters such as velocity (both in start to track zone and from track to run out zone), maximum velocity (in track zone) and dynamic pressure and estimation of run out distance have been calculated. The flow parameters have been computed for its variation with slope angle, frictional coefficient, eddy viscosity, and different flow heights

    Niger Delta region is criss-crossed by many rivers and streams, and like any other delta, is built up by sediments deposition due to increase of flow velocity as the inflowing rivers enter a larger and calmer water body. River Niger and its distributaries at the delta, flood, erode, transport and shape their channels and the surrounding land areas due to the inherent soil characteristics. Most settlements are submerged during the annual flooding, and this hampers the socio-economic life of the people, limits agricultural and industrial developments in the area, leading to reduction of houses in the areas prone to flooding and erosion. The more water the river channel carries, the greater the stream rate of flow and greater work of etching of the river both in depth and lateral erosion, leading to the broadening of the river channel, and this is as a result of the combined effects of geological, meteorological, soil and human factors

    BIOLOGICAL AND GENETIC OVERVIEW OF Pectinophora gossypiella AND ITS ASSOCIATED PARASITOID Bracon brevicornis GENOMES USING TWO MOLECULAR MARKERS TECHNIQUES

    Bachground: The comparative between the long-term autumn storage Pectinophora gossypiella diapauses larvae (field strain) (durations extended to 4 months) with active larvae (laboratory strain) and its associated field parasitoid Bracon brevicornis were investigated. Results: The mean duration of the total immature stages of B. brevicornis was 12.5 and 10.0 days, respectively, when reared on P. gossypiella diapaused larvae (field strain) and active laboratory strain. The generation time of B. brevicornis was 19.2 when reared on field diapaused larvae and 14.9 days for laboratory strain. The Sex ration of B. brevicornis estimated by (0.6:0.4) in active larvae and (0.55:0.45) in diapause larvae. The percentage of produced females in progeny was significantly different from that of two cultured parasitoids. Also, results revealed that adult male numbers decreased than female which considerable necessary in the B. brevicornis progeny production of following generations. The total eggs number per B. brevicornis female was 158.0 when reared on diapaused larvae of P. gossypiella field strain, while it increased to 236.0 when reared on active larvae of P. gossypiella laboratory strain. Identification of P. gossypiella and B. brevicornis genomes using two different techniques; SCoT method which conjugate with genes for the first time in Egypt on the host and its parasitoid and ISSR method which conjugate with sequences. Conclusion: using the two techniques had been recognized the most parts of P. gossypiella and B. brevicornis genomes, our findings may be helpful in genetic and genomic studies

    USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON EDUCATION DURING THE PANDEMIC SITUATION

    The use of Facebook as a prominent social media has become critical along its features, as the Covid 19 pandemic taken the control over the Sri Lanka limping the health, economy, education, mentality, day-to-day activities, etc. The continuous education via online platform is now an established concept all over the world. Sri Lanka also follow the online education procedures and along with online platforms, social media plays a collaborative role. The objective of the study is to identify the undergraduates’ behavior towards social media, technology, and their use of Facebook on educational activities. The study examines the purpose, and attitudes on benefits of Facebook from 150 undergraduates of University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. The data collected by using Google forms where Descriptive Analysis, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) used to model data by using IBM SPSS Statistics, and AMOS as tools to analyze data. The hypothesized SEM validated the latent structure and theory which the conclusions may support in further actions on distance education using social media as well

The difficulties faced during harvesting, transporting, marketing, and storing of the food supplies and its alternative methods involved. It shares views on the impact of regional climate conditions on the global distribution of Covid-19. Additionally, it incorporates the transmission from human to animal and vice versa. This study relies on the interpretation of the data collected from markets, review articles, journals, and newspapers. The goal of this investigation is to determine the right strategies for minimizing retail transmission and improving everyday behaviors in order to be safe and stable

    INVESTIGATIONS ON THE INHERENT RESISTANCE OF TWENTY-ONE MAIZE VARIETIES TO MAIZE WEEVIL, Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky AT F2 GENERATION

    It has been internationally accented that use of resistant variety is a key strategy to save maize (Zea mays L.) grains from the pernicious activities of the maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Therefore, twenty improved varieties and one local maize variety were studied in the laboratory using standard methods. The test varieties were selected because they are palatable, good-yielding and survive early season planting. Patterns of S. zeamais susceptibility index and adult mortality were plotted. Association between susceptibility index and adult mortality revealed that the two are connected in an inverse relationship. Eight varieties (38%) were resistant to S. zeamais attack. Aside allowing significantly minimal support for the survival and the development of S. zeamais, the varieties were consistently least damaged and lost. The cultivation and use of the resistant varieties identified will permit the postharvest storage of maize for long duration and reduce other problems associated with S. zeamais infestation. Thirteen moderately resistant maize varieties (62%) were revealed and their use under long storage condition should come with caution. The local maize variety had equivalent inherent moderate resistance with 57% of the varieties investigated. Most of the resistant maize varieties showed high viability when planted in the laboratory. This is an added advantage

    BITING BEHAVIOURS AND PEAK RANGE OF MOSQUITO Armigerous subalbatus IN DIFFERENT SITES

    The Armigerous subalbatus mosquitoes biting behaviour and peak values were observed from different sites at K.K nagar in Erode district, Tamilnadu. Armigerous subalbatus collected in five different sites. The Armigerous subalbatus high peak is observed from November to March. The Armigerous subalbatus numbers of mosquitoes were observed from five different sites. The maximum number of total mosquitoes was recorded as 178 and collected at the site of Open Dark Place (Sewage). The minimum total number of mosquitoes was observed as 37 from Open Light Place (Sewage). In the outdoor collection of total mosquitoes was recorded as 32. The Armigerous subalbatus mosquitoes were observed in the site of Open Place was noted as 14 and in Open place total mosquitoes were recorded as 8. The peak of the biting activity is observed by the intensity of ambient light at the time of sunrise and sunset. The standard deviation value of the morning peak falls was recorded as 06.30 ±0.173 at 06.30 hours in 50% value of morning time.  The standard deviation value of the evening peak falls was noted as 18.30 ±0.223 at 18.30 hours. This noted that the rate of change in light intensity and not fixed level or value is the critical factor, which observes the activity peak of biting mosquitoes

    REMOVAL OF METHYLENE BLUE DYE USING COPPER OXIDE/CARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE NANOCOMPOSITE: KINETIC, EQUILIBRIUM AND THERMODYNAMIC STUDIES

    In this study, copper oxide / Carboxymethyl cellulose (CuO-CMC) nanocomposite was successfully synthesized by the co-precipitation method in presence of NaBH4 as a reducing agent followed by thermal treatment using Muffle furnace at 300oC, which involves the immobilization of copper oxide nanoparticles (Cu NPs) onto Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) structure. Synthesized CuO/CMC nanocomposite was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) as well as Transmission electron microscope (TEM). Crystallography of the synthesized nanocomposite was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) as well. The nanocomposite was applied as an effective adsorbent to remove the organic pollutant such as methylene blue (MB) dye from its solution. Different factors affecting the dye removal such as initial dye concentration (3-15 mg/L), contact time (0-48 h), temperature (298-338 K), adsorbent dosage (2-10 mg), and pH (2-12) were evaluated. The maximum removal efficiency was observed to be (100, 100, 92, 86 %) for the initial concentration of MB (3, 7, 11, 15 mg/L) respectively with an adsorbent dosage (2.5 mg) after 48 hours. The experimental data exhibit that the adsorption behavior of CuO-CMC nanocomposite followed the pseudo 2nd order and the Langmuir isothermal model. Furthermore, the thermodynamics results suggested that the spontaneous nature and endothermic of the adsorption process

    SOIL FERTILITY AND MICRONUTRIENT STATUS IN TISSUES OF MAIZE IN DARO LABU DISTRICT, WEST HARARGHE ZONE, EASTERN ETHIOPIA

    Depletion of soil fertility due to soil erosion and nutrient mining farming system leads to decline soil productivity and crop yields. The study was initiated to assess soil fertility status and to determine micronutrient concentration in the tissues of maize grown at Daro Labu district, Eastern Ethiopia. A field survey was conducted to collect general information. A total of 12 composite soil samples from the depth of 0-20 cm and 12 maize tissue samples were collected from the district. Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 20. The soil texture was sandy clay loam. Soil bulk density was varied from 1.3 to 1.4 g cm-3. The total porosity of soil was very high with a value ranged from 41.5 to 45.3%. The soil pH (6.3 - 6.8) were varied from slightly acidic to a neutral level. The soil was very low in OC content with values ranged from (0.5 to 0.9%). The TN content of the soil was low which was varied from 0.04 to 0.22%. The soils available P content ranging from 10.08 to 16.2 mgkg-1. The CEC of soil was ranged from medium to high. The concentrations of exchangeable Ca and Mg were found to be sufficient in soil of the study area. Exchangeable K was high to very high. The soil had an adequate level of DTPA extractable Fe and Mn whereas deficiency of Cu and B in the soil. The soil showed a deficiency of Zn in 25% of the soil sample. Maize tissue had sufficient concentration of Fe and Mn. However, 41.67%, 41.67% and 75% of maize tissues were deficient in Cu, Zn, and B respectively. The extractable Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, and B concentrations in a plant tissue were positively correlated with their respective soil micronutrients. The study result indicates that OM, total N, Cu, Zn and B are the limiting factors for crop production. The use of integrated soil fertility management practices with increasing organic matter addition should be implemented. Thus, fertilizers containing N, Cu, Zn, and B need to be applied by conducting further experiments under green house and field conditions by considering soil type and crop variety could be recommended
