In this paper, the author examines the technology needs of graduate accounting students and discuss research on the interaction between technology and the graduate level accounting course. Using the features of online tools and specialized teaching methods can be offered to graduate accounting students. An important component is the use of online tools and digital literacy skills to fill the gaps of graduate students who may not be proficient in the use of technology.   The purpose of this study was to examine the traditional approach to teaching graduate accounting with textbook only in comparison to teaching with the use of online tools. The aim was to introduce students to the use of online tools and how it could be used to enhance their twenty-first-century skills. The primary goal of the study was to determine whether the treatment group learned more than the control group taught in the previous semester the non-traditional approach. In conclusion, the use of online tools alone is not enough to result in enhancing twenty-first-century skills. The study indicated that teaching graduate accounting should include every effective resource at the disposal of the instructor

It is a nightmare experience for the TV and media viewers to contend with rising noise level often leading to switching off. Social will is absolutely necessary. This article is to find out if there is any solution for this problem

Rice is consumed both in urban and rural area and its consumption is growing due to high-income elasticity of demand. To meet the growing demand, a rapid income in paddy production is needed. But there is little scope to increase the area; hence increase in production and productivity with an improvement in efficiency of production to act as a technological breakthrough to meet the growing demand

The objective of the paper was to develop a decision making tool that mobile handset distribution company could use to derive a more efficient and effective distribution of handsets to its channel. The paper developed the problem definition, the formulation of LP model, the procedure is designed as a solution to the problem, and the outcome as benefits to the company is presented. Linear programming model is formulated that can be solved using commercial software. This paper demonstrates the potential for using linear programming in managing large-scale transportation and distribution problems. The model resulted in the creation of new metrics for measuring the performance, the model will help the company understand conditions that result in inventory shortages, and the model lead to the discovery of inefficiencies in company distribution strategy. The model is directly beneficial to any company in Mobile Handsets distribution. With a large proportion of handsets sales is accounted by online retailers direct to customers, the distribution of handsets not only defines the cost but also customer satisfaction by managing delivery time and return-of-handsets offer. The model is also applicable for cases in other industries which operates in multiple markets and have large variety of Stock Keeping Units (SKUs)

Moving Beyond the Green Wall – Overcoming Environmental Pressures

    Get PDF
In response to business environment several organizations in the last few decades added a department having responsibility to deal with environmental related issues. Mostly the activities were dominated by legal and regulatory action and the end-of-the-pipe, technically based solutions to these issues. Their position and authority rarely offered the potential for lending value to the firm; more often, they were viewed as a cost center by top management. When businesses’ responses to environmentalism have been tied to core business decisions, however, a great deal of organizational change has been required— including overcoming the “Green Wall” between early treatment of environmental issues and the language, tools, and culture of business. Corporate leaders have been driven to evolve over time from early focus on industrial, regulatory, and social responsibility toward a mindset of the natural environment as strategic in nature. This recognition is increasingly important, especially with the rise of broader sustainable development and corporate social responsibility concerns. This recognition is increasingly important, especially with the rise of broader sustainable development and corporate social responsibility concerns. Clearly, environmental management and strategy has reached the executive level in many larger businesses, yet often the Green Wall remains a deeply rooted cultural obstacle in organizations

An Assessment of the Relationship Among Cargo-Throughput, Vessel Turnaround Time and Port-Revenue in Nigeria. (A Study of Lagos Port Complex)

A knowledge based economy remains the propeller for development in most developing nations. Adequate knowledge of the quantitative relationship among vessel turnaround-time, Cargo-throughput and revenue generated by a seaport constitute a determinant factor in forecasting the long-run financial performance of terminal operators and ports authorities. The study investigated the quantitative relationship among vessel turnaround-time, cargothroughput and port-revenue and the effect of such relationship on port performance in Nigeria. Since port performance, measureable by the level of revenue generated over time is dependent on cargo-throughput and ship turnaround-time, multiple regression method was used in analyzing the time series data of 15 years. The result of the analysis reveals a significant impact of ship turnaround-time and cargo-throughput on port-revenue. The relationship between port-revenue and each of cargo-throughput and ship turnaround-time is: Y = 106.22X1 + 55.064X2 -10753.216 + e. The study recommended improved investment in port infrastructure to improve ship turnaround-time and cargo-throughput, and maximize port-revenue

Assessing the Fit of Applicants: A Pilot Study Among Austrian Start-Ups

    Get PDF
Many innovation-oriented companies in the Western world are facing a scarcity of young talent particularly in the technical and engineering professions. As an engine of innovation, start-ups depend ever more on the fast growth of human capital, to secure their survival and success. Little research has however been done regarding hiring in start-ups, therefore a pilot study of good practice in start-ups that is essential for HR expansion and innovation is very necessary for innovation-oriented companies. The main result of the study, using a qualitative approach is the formation of a theoretical framework that can demonstrate good practice in the hiring process model, used for Austrian start-ups. This framework has been based on intensive research into the recent literature dealing with the person-environment fit, as well as in-depth interviews with HR managers active in Austrian start-ups. The outcome of the study does not only provide a theoretical framework for hiring in start-ups, but also provides insights into the hypothetical creation of future studies on hiring in other innovation-oriented companies
