Problems of Financing SMEs in Ghana: A Case Study of the Sunyani Municipality
Full text linkSmall and medium enterprises play an important role in the development of a country. The growth of SMEs is also important for the world economy which has been widely discussed in recent years. Although the problems SMEs face in accessing finance are well known, still there are some research gaps that need to be filled. The main focus of this research is to explore the nature and the characteristics of SMEs together with the financial constraints facing the SMEs. Basically the research focuses on Sunyani Municipality as the main area of study, but it will also cover the problems of SMEs for the other parts of the world under the same main purpose of this research. The research is a case study. Moreover, the nature of data collected for this project is both quantitative and qualitative. Questionnaires and interviews are the main tools for collecting data. Relevant literature is also reviewed. The Researcher has concluded that many studies have shown most of the SMEs lack access to finance for starting, operating and expanding their businesses, therefore access to finance is always quoted as a major constraint for all SMEs and can seriously affect their ability to survive, upgrade the technology in their business, increase their capacity and even in many cases, expand their market, improve management system or increase productivity as well as profitability. The findings will assist policy makers, development agencies, SME owners and financial institutions to ascertain the appropriate strategy to improve the SME financing
The Efforts for Coastal Community Welfare Improvement and Economic Development Acceleration in Bali Province
Full text linkThis study aims to produce a Master Plan draft for fishery-based MSME Development in Bali. This study consists of five study processes, among potential analysis of Micro Small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and business climate analysis, an analysis of the MSME builder institution roles, and the master plan preparation of fishery-based MSMEs in Bali. The potential of fishery-based MSMEs in Bali is poured on geographic information systems (GIS); Based on the Multiple regression analysis, it can be seen that GDP growth and labour has positive effect on the productivity levels of MSMEs; Based on Importance-Performance Analysis, there are approximately five attributes (50%) supporting the successful development of MSMEs located in quadrant III, this means that fishermen in Bali have the perception that five of these attributes are forms of government services (related institution) to the fishery-based MSMEs which should serve as the main priority; Based on AHP Analysis, it is found that the need for the fishery development in fishery-based MSMEs in Bali covers several operational, capital and market access aspects. By the potential analysis of MSMEs and development target program, it has been compiled development master plan matrix of fishery-based MSMEs and development master plan matrix for related sectors with the fishery-based MSMEs in the Bali Province 2015-2019

Research on Relationship Between VC and Innovation Based on a European Panel of VC Investments
Full text linkIn this paper we search for evidence signifying whether VC activity is demand or supply stimulated. Namely, we examine whether innovation and entrepreneurship are fostered by Venture Capital (VC) investments or whether innovative entrepreneurship is a precondition of a VC involvement. Based on a European panel of VC investments, we test the direction of causality between VC and innovation (provide by annual patent applications at the European Patents Office). We present evidence indicating that causality runs from patents to VC suggesting that, in Europe, innovation seems to create a demand for VC and not VC a supply of innovation. In this sense, innovative ideas seem to lack more than funds in Europe. We explain our findings on the basis of information asymmetry issues and irreversibility considerations of VC investments
Employment of Waste for Irrigation Purposes
Full text linkThis paper deals with Irrigation using treated agricultural or food processing industry as wastewater can allow more intensive use of the land, improve plant vigour and may extend growing seasons. Nutrients in wastewater (as organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) can be balanced to plant growth needs, or natural waters can have had nutrients added. This form of irrigation is called fertigation. Irrigation with chemical addition to vegetation needs an effective environmental management plan (EMP) to prevent harm to the environment. Our aim in this paper is to give ways that ensure that resources are used efficiently, that land is not degraded or waterlogged and that natural waters are protected from salinity, turbidity, nutrient-enrichment, leached trace metals, pesticides and other harmful wastewater contaminants
Risk Management in Micro Payment System in Emerging Economy: An Empirical Study From Ghana
Full text linkThis study examined the relationship between risk communication and review process and the entire risk management process in micro payment system. An empirical study was conducted into this phenomenon. Questionnaire was used to collect data from key informants within the micro payment industries. In all a total of 120 respondents was used. Furthermore, Pearson correlation and Linear regression analysis was conducted to test the hypotheses stated for this study. According to the statistical finding of this study is proved that information dissemination between providers and clients contributed significantly to risk mitigation and reduction. Also risk communication process coupled with a review process enabled firms to deal with ineffective strategies and practices
