EFEKTIVITAS LARUTAN MINUMAN PROBIOTIK YAKULT® DALAM MENURUNKAN JUMLAH CANDIDA ALBICANS PADA AKRILIK POLIMERISASI PANAS
Using a removable denture can caused chronic inflammation commonly triggered from oral microorganism, specifically Candida albicans. The prevalence of denture stomatitis on removable denture user has been reported to be 15-70%. Yakult® probiotic drink contains Lactobacillus casei Shirota that is known for its role in interfering the binding of pathogen microorganisms. The purpose of this study is to determined whether Yakult® probiotic drink can decrease the number of Candida albicans on heat-cured acrylic resin plate. This study used pre-post test control group design method with n=25, consisting of 5 groups. Acrylic plates are contaminated with Candida albicans and initial counting was conducted. Then the plates were immersed in Yakult® probiotic drinks on 15, 30, 60 minutes treatment groups and on Fittydent® and aquadest control groups. Afterwards the plantation and final counting were done. The result of the study is normally distributed and homogenous, then it was analyzed using Paired T-Test (p<0,05) with mean P1 12,20±4,38, P215,60±5,72 and P315,80±3,76 CFU/ml. LSD test shown significant differencesbetween positive controls with all treatments and not significant differences between treatments. This study shows that probiotic Lactobacillus can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans. It can be concluded that Yakult® probiotic drink can decrease the number of Candida albicans colonies on heat-cured acrylic resin plates immersion, with the most effective time being 60 minutes
TEKNIK BONE TISSUE ENGINEERING (BTE) UNTUK REGENERASI JARINGAN PERIODONTAL DAN ESTETIK PADA EDENTULOUS RIDGE
The resorption of alveolar bone in the edentulous area can lead to reduced prosthetic support and loss of periodontal tissue attachment, and reduce aesthetics. Dental implants are an alternative treatment option for patients with partial or complete loss of teeth. Not all dental implants provide good results, especially in relation to bone contact with implants. One way to overcome alveolar bone deficiency is implant placement with bone grafting procedures. Bone Tissue Engineering (BTE) can be performed in the edentulous area that experiences alveolar bone resorption, to replace lost bone (osteoconduction) and stimulate new bone formation (osteoinduction), so that the denture in the edentulous area is better with adequate support, and more aesthetics. Osteon (Biphasic Calcium Phosphate) is one of the unique products made from marine coral, which contains Calcium Carbonate in the structure of Calcium Hydroxyapatite. The advantage of this material is that the structure of the sea coral is similar to trabecular bone. Biphasic Calcium Phosphate has several disadvantages, namely slow degradation rates, weak resistance to fractures, high crystallinity, and has limitations in stimulating the regeneration of bone cells; and coated with collagen, so that it can enable immunological / allergic reactions in patients who have hypersensitivity
PERAWATAN SALURAN AKAR GIGI MOLAR ATAS DENGAN CROWN LENGTHENING DAN RESTORASI ONLEI CERAMOPOLIMER
Teeth post root canal treatment (RCT) would be very brittle because it has lost moisture and most of the hard tissue, so they need a restoration. Ceramopolymer is one of the choosen material for posterior onlay restoration recently. A tooth with subgingival caries often pose problems. Non adequat restoration can cause secondary caries and a failed restoration. The aim of this case report is to demonstrate a succeed treatment of crown lengthening with ceramopolymer onlay as post RCT restoration on maxilla secondary molar with irreversible pulpitis. A 30-year-old female patient was referred for RCT on the maxillary right second molar with irreversible pulpitis. RCT, crown lengthening and indirect onlay had been performed. Teeth that have taken RCT needs an restoration and ceramopolymer is a material that can be chosen. Ceramopolymer is an indirect restoration filled with 73% micro-fine ceramic. It combines the advantages of composite and ceramics so it provides a highly strong but elastic restoration for posterior teeth. Surgical crown lengthening can be done to gain access to subgingival area and cleaning the caries site and also to give an adequat tooth preparation. Crown lengthening with ceramopolymer onlay as post RCT restoration on maxilla secondary molar showed a successful treatment outcome
GINGIVEKTOMI SEBAGAI TATALAKSANA GINGIVAL ENLARGEMENT PADA PASIEN PERAWATAN ORTHODONTIK CEKAT
Gingival enlargement is an increase in gingival size which is a common feature of gingival disease. One of the treatment for gingival is gingivectomy. The purpose of deciding gingivectomy is to remove the gingival tissue which is a pocket wall to enhance visibility and accesbility for self cleaning. A 30 years old female patient presents gingiva that appear enlarged in the lower anterior region. The patient has a history of using fixed orthodontic appliances for 2 years. Gingival enlargement is in the right canine to the left canine. Gingivectomy has performed with conventional techniques using a scalpel. Two weeks control results showed satisfactory results where there was no enlargement of the gingiva. Orthodontic appliances are one of the factors that initiating gingival enlargement. Plaque increased can caused gingival enlargement. Increased pocket depth will cause plaque accumulation and this condition will continue to recur. The diagnosis of enforcement based on etiological decisions is very important in the gingival enlargement treatment requirements
Management of Cleft Lip and Palate (Literature Review)
Cleft lip and cleft palate (orofacial cleft) are facial and oral malformations that occur very early in pregnancy. A cleft lip and cleft palate, known technically as an orofacial cleft, is actually a group of various conditions that involve a ‘cleft” on the patient’s face. Clefting results when there is not enough tissue in the mouth or lip area, and the tissue that is available does not join together properly. Cleft lip and cleft palate can occur on one or both sides of the mouth. Because the lip and the palate develop separately, it is possible to have a cleft lip without a cleft palate, a cleft palate without a cleft lip, or both together. Children with a cleft lip with or without a cleft palate or a cleft palate alone often have problems with feeding and speaking clearly and can have ear infections. They also might have hearing problems and problems with their teeth. Cleft lip with or without cleft palate, can be diagnosed during pregnancy by a routine ultrasound. They can also be diagnosed after the baby is born, especially cleft palate. Treatment with orofacial clefts can vary depending on the severity of the cleft; the child’s age and needs; and the presence of associated syndromes or other birth defects, or both
ASTAXANTHIN INCREASE AQP-5 MRNA LEVEL, SALIVARY FLOW RATE AND REDUCE F2-ISOPROSTANE LEVEL ON SUBMANDIBULAR GLAND OF WISTAR RATS WHICH IRRADIATED GAMMA RAYS
oai:oai.e-journal.unmas.ac.id:article/335Aquaporin-5 (AQP5) is a water channel protein expressed on the apical membrane of serous acini in salivary gland. Previous study have shown that the level of mRNA AQP5 is decreased in irradiated rat that result in decreased salivary flow rate; however, the mechanism has not been reported. It’s maybe due to presence of free radicals. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of antioxidant on level of mRNA AQP5, salivary flow rate and F2 Isoprostane level (as biomarker of oxidative stress) on salivary gland of rats irradiated with g rays. All experiments were performed using Male Wistar Rat (Rattus Norvegicus, ages 3-4 month, weight 200 – 300 g) were randomly divided into 2 groups: the experimental group and the control group. Twenty two rats were irradiated with single dose (10 Gy) of Co60 Gamma rays at ventral surface at their neck. Before irradiated, the experimental group (11 rats) were given 0.5 mg Astaxanthin® for 4 days but not the control group (11 rats). Saliva secretion, saliva flow rate, and blood were collected after 24 hours. After that, submandibular glands were extirpated for analized mRNA AQP5 using Real Time-RT PCR. Level of F2 Isoprostane was analyzed by ELISA. Using independet t-test showed that mRNA AQP5 level and Flow rate saliva were significanly increased at experimental group (p<0,05), plasma F2 Isoprostance level were significanly decreased at experimental group (p<0,05). Pearson correlation test demonstrate a strong correlation between levels of AQP5 mRNA with levels of F2-isoprostane, mRNA AQP5 levels with salivary secretion, levels of mRNA AQP5 with salivary secretion rate, levels of F2-isoprostane with the salivary secretion, and the levels of F2 -isoprostane with salivary secretion rate. Using regression test showed a significant influence of level F2 Isoprostane toward the levels of mRNA AQP5 and the levels of mRNA AQP5 toward differences of salivary flow rate on submandibular gland. It can be conclude that antioxidant (Astaxanthin®) increased mRNA AQP5 levels, salivary flow rate and reduce levels of isoprostane F2 at Wistar rat irradiated with gamma-rays
TEMPERATURE AND SOAKING TIME CAUSE COLOR CHANGES OF FLEXIBLE DENTURE
Flexible denture is a removable partial denture made of flexible material and can adapt well to the oral tissues. Color stability is one of the basic properties of denture that is needed in achieving good aesthetics. Intrinsic and extrinsic factors can affect the basic denture's color changes. Extrinsic factors can be stain due to the absorption of pigments of dyes from exogenous sources such as denture cleansing solutions, food and beverages, length of use of materials either due to physical or chemical conditions, such as temperature changes. Intrinsic factors include chemical changes in the material itself, among others, due to the imperfect polymerization process, material pollution in the process of making the material or its processing, due to the chemical reaction within the material itself and various processing techniques resulting in the occurrence of porosity on the surface of the material to facilitate the accumulation of dirt. This study aims to observe the color change of the flexible denture base made of nylontermoplastic. The sample of this study used 30 flexible denture base plates measuring 10 mm x 10 mm x 2 mm, soaked at different temperatures of 40 ° C, 50 ° C and 60 ° C for 1 minute, 3 minutes and 5 minutes in each group . The media used is waterbath as a temperature control and then processed using Adobe Photoshop with CIELab method. The results showed significant color changes in the 37 ° C temperature control group with temperatures of 40 ° C, 50 ° C and 60 ° C (p <0.05). Medium between 40 ° C, 50 ° C and 60 ° C has no significant difference (p> 0,05). The conclusion is that the higher of the temperature and the duration of soaking time have a significant effect on the color change of flexible denture
PENGARUH CINNAMALDEHYDE DARI KAYU MANIS (Cinnamomum burmanii) PADA PERIODONTAL DRESSING TERHADAP SEL FIBROBLAS PADA LUKA GINGIVA KELINCI
Gingiva is the outermost structure of the periodontal tissue and play a role to protect the underlying tissue. Traumatic actions such as simple incisions, gingival flaps, and biopsy are the main causes of damage or injury to periodontal tissue. Application of a material to protect post-operative wounds is necessary. A common procedure related to this problem is periodontal dressing which serves to close the wound and accelerate the healing of gingival tissue. One type of plant that has a good ability to wound healing is cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) with a compound called cinnamaldehyde. The use of this compound as a mixture in periodontal dressing has the potential to accelerate wound healing in the gingiva. This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of cinnamaldehyde from Cinnamomum burmannii on periodontal dressing on fibroblasts in healing gingival wounds in rabbits. The design of this study was an experimental laboratory study design with a post-test only with control group design. Experimental animals in the study were divided into 4 groups based on the presentation of the addition of cinnamon extract, namely 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. Each sample was again divided into small groups based on the day of decaputation consisting of days 3, 5, and 7. Statistical test results showed there were significant differences in the number of fibroblast cells between 3 subgroups (ANOVA, p <0.05). Addition of cinnamon extract to periodontal dressing could increase thenumber of fibroblast cells after gingival injury
PERAWATAN OBSTRUKSI SALURAN AKAR MENGGUNAKAN EDTA PADA GIGI PASKA RESTORASI AMALGAM
Root canal calsification can occur due to prolonged trauma, aging, or restorations with pressure on the teeth for a long time, and causes root canal obstructed. The purpose of this case report to evaluate the results of root canal treatment with obstructed root canal post amalgam restoration, continue with unimetrix post and PFM crown. Thirty three years old female patient has come to dental clinic to treat her left mandibular molar tooth that have big amalgam restoration in the occlusal and tooth fracture at lingual side, but there was no pain when he came. Clinical examination on tooth 36 is necrosis pulpa. Radiographs showed radiopaque area from occlusal until pulp chamber floor and no periapical lesions were found. Rewalling lingual wall was done before the procedure of multivisit root canal treatment with EDTA, that consists of three obstructed root canal. Preparation and insertion of tapered self threading dowel (unimetrix, Dentsply) and build up core with cement resin at once. Core preparation were done for PFM jacket crown, and then mold with irreversible hydrocolloid for maxilla and double impression material for the mandible. PFM jacket crown was cemented using resin cement. The evaluation after six months, there were no complaints of pain and good marginal adaptation of restoration has performed. Selection cases and the right diagnosis with treatment procedures and adequate restoration, root canal treatment can be effective and durable
PEMOLESAN TUMPATAN KOMPOSIT DAPAT MENURUNKAN ANGKA PERUBAHAN WARNA (DISKOLORISASI) PADA RESIN KOMPOSIT NANOFILLER YANG DISEBABKAN OLEH PENGGUNAAN OBAT KUMUR CHLORHEXIDINE
Nanofiller composite resin restoration has a major problem, namely color changes. Polishing are factors that determine color change and if added to using mouthwash for a long time can cause more significant color changes. The 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash is a mouthwash that is often used in the community because it has low toxicity. However, using the chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% mouthwash in the long term can cause discoloration in the composite resin. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference between discoloration of polished and unpolished nanofiller composite resin on the soaking of 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash. The method used in this study is purely experimental research with a pretest and post test with control group design, using 24 samples of premolar teeth prepared with class II cavity design and then filled with nanofiller composite resin. The samples were then divided into 4 treatment groups, namely polished, non-polished nanofiller composite resin, 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash and distilled water. Soaking was carried out 24 hours a day for 5 days in an incubator at 37ºC. Changes in the color of each group were measured using Shade Guide Vita Classical. The hypothesis testing of this research was carried out by descriptive analysis which was then tested by the Shapiro-Wilk test for its normality test and Leven's test to test its homogeneity with a significance value of 0.05. Mann-Whitney test for different tests. Based on the results of this study, it was found that the discoloration of the polished nanofiller composite resin was smaller than that which was not polished on the soaking of chlorhexidine mouthwash 0.2
