EFFECTIVENESS OF RED ROSE (Rosa damascena Mill) EXTRACT AS A ROOT CANAL STERILIZATION MATERIAL: EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK BUNGA MAWAR MERAH (Rosa Damascena Mill) SEBAGAI BAHAN STERILISASI SALURAN AKAR GIGI
Introduction: Necrotic teeth can be preserved by root canal treatment. One of the important steps in root canal treatment is root canal sterilization. In recent years, many researchers have researched herbal ingredients to replace chemicals that have been widely used, because the side effects of these herbal ingredients are relatively low and the price is relatively cheaper. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of red roses in inhibiting the growth of tooth root canal bacteria. Materials and Methods: In this study, we investigated herbal ingredients, namely red rose flower extract (Rosa Damascena Mill) as antibacterial ingredients. This research is a laboratory research with Post Test Control Group Design. The samples used were root canal bacteria which were divided into 4 groups, namely: group 1 was the treatment group given 75% red rose extract, the second group was given 100% red rose extract, the third group was given positive control ChKM. and group 4 treatment group which was treated with aquadest negative control, with each repetition 4 times. Extraction of red roses was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol as solvent. Inhibition zone testing was carried out using the Kirby Baurer. Results: The calculation results obtained a significant value using the Kruskal-Wallis ChKM, 75% red rose extract, 100% red rose extract, and aquadest. Conclusion: Red rose flower extract (Rosa Damascena Mill) with a concentration of 75% and 100% can inhibit the growth of root canal bacteri
INTRAORAL LYPHOMA ON THE MENTAL REGION: A Case Report : Lipoma Intraoral Pada Regio Mentalis: Laporan Kasus
Introduction: Lyphoma is a benign tumor of mesenchymal origin composed of mature adipocytes, usually separated by a thin fibrous connective tissue capsule. Lyphomas are rare in the oral maxillofacial region (0.1% to 5%). The clinical presentation of intraoral lyphoma is usually an asymptomatic yellowish mass. Case: This case report present an intraoral lyphoma occurring in the mental region of a 44-years-old man. The patient came with complaints of fullness in his left chin since the last year. Intraoral examination revealed the presence of smooth sessile nodules, moderate in size with yellowish color. Case Management: Surgical excision under general anesthesia is performed to remove the tumor. Discussion: Lyphoma is the most common mesenchymal tumor, but incidence in the oral cavity is rare. The etiology of intraoral lyphoma still unclear, but the possible pathogenesis mechanisms are the “hypertrophy” and “metaplasia” theory. The diagnosis of intraoral lyphoma usually clinical. Techniques such as intraoral radiography, USG, CT and MRI make the diagnosis of these tumors easier. Histopathology remains the gold standard in the diagnosis of lyphomas. Intraoral lyphoma treatment is surgical excision. In this case, the intraoral lyphoma located near to the mental foramen so the mental nerve must be protected during surgery using blunt dissection and careful excision. With this technique no complications seen after the surgery. Conclusion: Intraoral lyphomas are rare, clinicians should be able to recognize this tumor. Through this, adequate surgical excision will be performed and the recurrence rate reduced.
MANAGEMENT OF ORAL LICHEN PLANUS TRIGGERED BY STRESS : PENATALAKSANAAN ORAL LICHEN PLANUS PADA RONGGA MULUT
Introduction: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a mucocutaneous disorder that rarely occurs around us and only involves the layer of the stratified squamous epithelium. Oral lichen planus is more common in women aged 30 - 65 years. The etiology of this disorder is not yet known, but there are severe predisposing factors that play a role,such as hepatitis C virus infection, food, drugs, malignancy and psychological factors. Purpose: This case report aims to describe the treatment of stress induced OLP. Case Report: A 46 year old man presented with complaints of stinging on the inner right and left cheeks for one month ago. The patient admits that he has a lot of thoughts related to family problems. It is found that the lesion resembles a white streak withredness that forms in the intraoral area. Case management: The patient was given therapy in the form of topical corticosteroids and consulted to psychiatry and got improvement after 1 week of treatment. Discussion: The treatment of OLP lesions is a treatment that requires collaboration between the dentist, the patient and the patient's family. Corticosteroid therapy is the gold standard treatment given to people with OLP. Corticosteroids are widely used in medicine because of their strong effect and fast anti-inflammatory reaction. Corticosteroids are widely used for the management of inflammatory diseases. Besides supporting therapy in consultation with a psychologist or psychiatrist to deal with stress disorders. Conclusion: Treatment of OLP lesions is a complex treatment. Corticosteroid therapy, both topical and systemic, is the most appropriate therapy and the role of a psychologist or psychiatrist is needed in managing patient stress to increase the percentage of patient recovery
OPTIMAL CONCENTRATION OF BASIL LEAF EXTRACT (Ocimum basilicum L.) IN INHIBITING THE GROWTH OF Streptococcus mutans IN VITRO : Konsentrasi Optimal Dari Ekstrak Daun Kemangi (Ocimum Basilicum L.) Dalam Menghambat Pertumbuhan Bakteri Streptococcus Mutans In Vitro
Introduction: One of flora in the oral cavity is Streptococcus mutans as a cause of dental caries. Various ways can be done to suppress its growth, one of them by using mouthwash which is used contains a lot of chemicals, so an alternative is needed by using herbal ingredients, including basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) leaves that contain essential oils, methyl eugenol, phenols, and flavonoids which are able to work as antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibition and optimal concentration of basil leaf extract on the growth of Streptococcus mutans. Materials and method: The method used agar Kirby Bauer method with seven treatments of leaf extract with concentrations of 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, 3%, 3.5%, 4%, and methanol solution as control group. The culture medium used was Muller Hinton Blood Agar. Results and discussions: The Kruskall Wallis test showed a significant difference between treatment groups. Mann Whitney U-Test test, found that the control group, basil leaf extract concentrations of 1.5%, 2%, 2.5% and 3% were tested with concentrations of 3.5% and 4% had a significant difference. The test between groups of 3.5% and 4% basil leaf extract did not show a significant difference. Conclusion: this study was that in vitro basil leaf extract with a concentration of 3.5% and 4% had inhibitory power on the growth of Streptococcus mutans and basil leaf extract with a concentration of 3.5% optimally inhibited the growth of Streptococcus mutans in vitro
THE EFFECT OF REINFORCED POLYETHYLENE FIBER ON FLOWABLE RESIN COMPOSITE AS SPLINTING MATERIAL ON ATTACHEMENT OF Streptoccocus mutans : PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN POLYETHYLENE FIBER PADA RESIN KOMPOSIT FLOWABLE SEBAGAI BAHAN SPLINTING TERHADAP Streptococcus mutans
Introduction : Tooth mobility is one of the symptoms of periodontal disease which is characterized by loss of attachment and vertical bone damage. One method to overcome this is by splinting. The development of dental materials science has resulted in an innovative splinting technique using a thin band of material, easily bonded, consisting of a series of criss-crossed strands of thin polyethylene fibers. Fiber in the oral cavity will interact with saliva and microorganisms, especially Streptococcus mutans. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding polyethylene fiber to flowable composite resin as a splinting material on the attachment of Streptococcus mutans. Materials and Methods: This research method was an experimental laboratory using a post-test only control group design. Samples in the form of blocks with a size of 5x4x2 mm were immersed in artificial saliva for 1 hour then soaked in liquid medium containing Streptococcus mutans and incubated for 2x24 hours, diluted to 100 or dilution of 10-2 then 0.1 mL of liquid medium put into TYC agar media in petridishes and incubated at 37oC for 48 hours anaerobically. Results and Discussion: Statistical tests showed that the addition of polyethylene fiber to the flow composite resin splinting material increased the attachment of Streptococcus mutans bacteria . The results of the Saphiro-Wilk test showed that the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria in each group was normally distributed (p>0.05). Lavene's test results obtained a statistical levene value of 0.695 with a significance value of 0.410 > 0.05, this proves that the data used is homogeneous. In the One Way Anova test, it can be seen that the sig value is 0.000 (p<0.05). From the results of the analysis with LSD shows there is a significant difference in treatment between variables. Conclusion: From the results of the study, there is an influence of the addition of polyethylene fiber to flowable composite resins as a splinting material on increasing the attachment of Streptococcus mutans
THE EFFECT OF CHEWING APPLES AND PEARS AFTER EATING CHOCOLATE BISCUIT ON TOOTH PLAQUE : PENGARUH MENGUNYAH BUAH APEL DAN BUAH PIR SETELAH MAKAN BISKUIT COKELAT TERHADAP PLAK GIGI
Introduction: Plaque is one of causes of dental caries among children because of habit of eating snacks that are cariogenic such as chocolate flavored biscuits. Some of fruits contain water and fiber such as apple and pear can mechanically reduce accumulation of dental plaque. This study aims to determine the effect of chewing apple and pear after eating chocolate flavored biscuits toward dental plaque among children aged 8 to 10. Material and Methods: This research is a quasi-experimental with pretest – post test control group design, was conducted in SD NegeriJogkang, Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta and 24 children aged 8 to 10 were involved in this study. The children were divided into three groups and each group consists of 8 children. First group was treated by chewing 50 grams of apple after eating chocolate flavored biscuits, second group was treated by chewing 50 grams of pear after eating chocolate flavored biscuits and third group was treated by eating chocolate flavored biscuits without chewing any fruits, then crossover. Dental plaque score was measured using PHP-M index from Martens and Meskin which was done before and after treatment. Data of dental plaque score then analyzed using One Way ANOVA and Post-Hoc LSD (Least Significant Difference) (p0,05). Results and Discussions: The results showed differences of mean and standard deviation score of dental plaque before and after chewing apple by 17,45±1,95; chewing pear by 11,58±1,90; consuming biscuits without chewing fruits by 2,91±1,24. The result of one-way ANOVA analysis showed there were significant differences in all groups (p<0,05). The result of Post-Hoc LSD tests showed dental plaque score differences between groups which chewing apple and pear (p<0,05). Conlusion: Based on conducted study, the conclusion can be drawn is chewing apple after eating chocolate flavored biscuits is further reduced dental plaque score than chewing pear in children age 8 to 10
IMMERSION OF HEAT POLYMERIZED ACRYLIC RESIN DENTAL BASE IN ARAK BALI AGAINST SURFACE ROUGHNESS : PERENDAMAN BASIS GIGI TIRUAN RESIN AKRILIK POLIMERISASI PANAS DALAM MINUMAN ARAK BALI TERHADAP KEKASARAN PERMUKAAN
Introduction: The denture base is the part of the removable denture that is supported by good adaptation to the underlying oral tissue. Most of the denture bases are made of acrylic or polymethyl methacrylate resin, better known as PMMA. However, acrylic resin also has disadvantages such as easily broken and absorbs liquids both water and chemicals. The chemical absorption like alcohol, ethanol, and some drinks that contain acidic materials will chemically be induced with acrylic resin and settle in the pores of the acrylic resin. The chemical damage or defect creates roughness on the surface of the acrylic resin which can cause cracking or crazing and a decrease in surface strength and hardness. Materials and Methods: The method used in this research was a laboratory experimental design with a post-test-only control group using 12 samples consisting of 2 different types of samples by measuring the surface roughness of the acrylic resin after immersing the sample with a predetermined time. Results and Discussions: One-way ANOVA test results showed a significant difference in surface roughness after the samples immersion with a value of p = 0.006 (p <0.05). Conclusions: Based on this research, can be concluded that there is an increase in the surface roughness of the heated polymerized acrylic resin for 3 hours and 4 hours of immersion. The longer the heated polymerized acrylic resin is soaked in arak hence the level of surface roughness increases.  
SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF DEPIGMENTATION IN HYPERPIGMENTATION WITH SCRAPPING METHOD USING SURGICAL SCALPEL : Penatalaksanaan Bedah Depigmentasi pada Hiperpigmentasi dengan Metode Scrapping Menggunakan Scalpel Bedah
Introduction: The color of healthy gingiva is often influenced by melanin pigmentation as an abnormal deposition of melanocytes located in basal and suprabasal cells. Gingival hyperpigmentation that exceeds normal causes a variety of physiological and pathological conditions. Gingival depigmentation is a periodontal surgical procedure to remove or reduce gingival hyperpigmentation by various techniques to improve aesthetics. The procedures include the use of chemicals such as 90% phenol, diamond drill abrasion, gingivectomy, soft tissue autograft, partial thickness flap, cryosurgery and laser. Case: A 19-year-old male patient came to periodontist office, after an examination he had Smoker's melanosis hyperpigmentation in the upper anterior region. Case Management: The patient was given depigmentation surgery using the scrapping method using a scalpel No. 15c. Discussion: Surgical management of gingival depigmentation with scrapping provides good esthetic results. Conclusion: It is necessary to take a proper history and adequate examination and be wise in determining the various surgical methods of depigmentation
THE EFFECT OF 25% BELT LEAVES AND 0.2% CHLORHEXIDINE AS DISINFECTANT MATERIALS ON THE DIMENSIONAL STABILITY OF ALGINATE MOLDS : Pengaruh Rebusan Daun Sirih 25 % dan Klorheksidin 0,2 % sebagai Bahan Desinfektan Terhadap Stabilitas Dimensi Cetakan Alginat
Introduction: Dental impression material is one of the agents of infection transmission in the dentist's work environment. Cross infection can occur through the interaction of microorganisms and impression material. To prevent cross infection, it is necessary to disinfect alginate impressions. One of the effective natural ingredients that can be used as a disinfectant is betel leaf. The effect of using disinfectant can affect the dimensional stability of the alginate mold. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of disin- fection by spraying a decoction of 25% betel leaf and 0.2% chlorhexidine on the dimensional stability of alginate molds. Materials and Methods: The research method used was an experimental laboratory with a post-test only control group design using 27 samples consisting of three treatments (negative control group, positive control group, and treatment group) which were measured using a digital caliper. The technique used in this study is the spraying technique on the sample with a storage time of 10 minutes. Results and discussion: This 25% betel leaf decoction (infusion) can be used as an alternative to disinfecting alginate impressions because there is no difference in effect between spraying 25% betel leaf decoction (infusion) and 0.2% chlorhexidine on alginate molds on changes in model physiological dimen- sions. Conclusion: the dimensional changes that occur are still within tolera- ble limits in alginate molds which were disinfected by spraying 25% betel leaf decoction and 0.2% chlorhexidine solution so that both can be used as disinfection materials for alginate impression materials
GINGIVECTOMY IN GINGIVAL ENLARGEMENT CASES USING CONVENTIONAL TECHNIQUE : Gingivektomi Pada Kasus Gingival Enlargement Menggunakan Teknik Konvensional
Introduction: Gingival enlargements is an abnormal condition that localizedor generalized on the gingival cause by some factor. Gingival enlargements isalways associated with chronic gingival irritation due to traumatic occlusion,calculus and the presence of rough edges on tooth restoration, drug inducedor cause by systemic disease. Gingivectomy is an excision in the gingivalarea. By removing the pocket wall, gingivectomy provides visibility andaccessibility to the removal of calculus as a whole. Case: A 12th years oldmen came to the Klungkung District Hospital complaining of a lump in theupper front gum since 6 months ago, clinically there was gingival swelling at11,12,13,21,22,23. Case Treatment: The treatment procedure performedwas gingivectomy with an conventional technic. Conventional Technic areused routinely for surgical procedures because predictable result. Examplefor Growth excision, excision or incision biopsy, white lesion ablation, andgingivectomy are common in intraoral procedures. Discussions: The resultsof treatment after one week and two weeks showed good condition withslight complaints of pain. Conclusion: The gingivectomy technique in thiscase was performed using a continuous technique because the gingival enlargement was found in the marginal and interdental areas.
