Deixis Analysis in Disney’s Song
The objectives of this study are to find out the use of five types of deixis on Disney’s song. The researcher chooses three songs, there are A Whole New World as a soundtrack of Alladin, Let it Go as a soundtrack of Frozen film and I See the Light as a soundtrack of Tangled. This paper used the qualitative method. The researcher used data collected by listening to the songs and reading the lyrics, then she looked for the script of the lyrics of Disney songs on the internet then analyzed them. After collecting the data, she analyzed the result of this research that not all songs of Disney used five types of deixis. There are personal social, place, time, and discourse deixis. From three songs she just found two songs that used all of the types of deixis. There are in the song A Whole New World and Let it Go. In A Whole New World, there were found 39 words of deixis. In the song Let it Go it is found 42 words of deixis. And in the song, I See The Light there are 55 words of deixis. So, it can be concluded that the most dominant deixis in Disney’s song is in the lyrics of the song I See The Light as a soundtrack of Tangled. The result of this research shows that the most dominant of types deixis in Disney’s song is person deixis
Implementing Project Based Learning Using Google Sites to Enhance Students’ Travel Writing Abilities
This research explores the intersection of project-based learning (PBL) and technology-enhanced language education, specifically focusing on the implementation of PBL through Google Sites to enhance students’ travel writing skills. The research aims to evaluate both the implementation of PBL in travel writing and students’ perceptions of this learning model. Utilizing a case study methodology, data were collected through observations and questionnaires. English for Tourism Industry students were divided into four groups, each consisting of five students, and each group created one Digital Travel Writing project. Findings indicate that all groups effectively followed three key steps in the PBL process: project preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The resulting Digital Travel Writing projects focused on Central Java, Bali, East Java, and West Nusa Tenggara. Questionnaire responses indicated that most students enjoyed the PBL activities. In conclusion, the implementation of project-based learning using Google Sites was successful in enhancing students’ abilities in the Travel Writing course
The Teachers’ Strategies in Teacing Speaking at SMK Muhammadiyah Prambanan
Teaching speaking skills is a significant challenge for teachers, especially in a vocational school environment. This study aims to identify the strategies used by teachers in teaching speaking at SMK Muhammadiyah Prambanan. The subjects of this study were three English teachers and 35 eleventh grade students from the Broadcasting class in the 2023/2024 academic year. Using descriptive qualitative method, this study collected data through interviews and classroom observations. The results showed that teachers used a variety of strategies, including storytelling, class discussions, and the use of social media, which effectively improved students' motivation, active participation, and speaking skills. Storytelling engages students emotionally, helping them build vocabulary and public speaking confidence. Class discussions encourage active participation, improving students' communication and critical thinking skills. Meanwhile, social media allows students to practice English in real-life contexts, making learning more interactive and fun. These strategies are proven to not only improve students' speaking ability, but also foster their personal and social development. This comprehensive approach aligns with the demands of the vocational curriculum, preparing students with the essential communication skills needed for professional and social growth
Developing Tourism Digital Dictionary for Persada Husada Indonesia Vocational School in Bekasi
This research aims to design and develop a tourism digital dictionary for students in Persada Husada Indonesia Vocational School in Bekasi. Using Research and Development method, this research was conducted in five stages of ADDIE proposed by Branch (2009) including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stage. The instruments used are questionnaire, interview, observation, and documentation. The dictionary is developed referring to Jackson (2002) which covers macro (front matter, body, appendices) and micro (arrangement and type of information) structure. The dictionary was validated by two experts both in content and design with no revision which later was implemented in hotel department classes. The result of the implementeation and evaluation from the teachers showed that the dictionary is beneficial not only for students during teaching and learning process but also during internship for self-learning media
Enhancing Self-Confidence in English Speaking through Role-Play Activities
This study aimed to increase students' grade 9 student’s self-confidence in speaking English at one Junior High School in Jakarta. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which aims to solve the problem of students' lack of self-confidence in speaking English. This classroom action research uses the Kurt Lewin model. This study was conducted in 2 cycles where each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. In obtaining data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative data were obtained through observation, while quantitative data were obtained through tests (pre-test and post-test). The results of this study found that the use of the role-play method had been successful with the criteria that 75% of students achieved the target score ≥ 75 based on the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM). The results obtained through the test showed that 80% of students had achieved the target minimum competency criteria score. In addition, the second criterion is that students become more active during the teaching and learning process, so the results of the observation show that by using the role-play method, students become more active and also confident in speaking English
EFL Teachers’ Perceptions and Experiences in Implementing Differentiated Instruction (DI) in The Merdeka Curriculum at Vocational Schools in Riau Islands Province
The study addresses the challenges of implementing Differentiated Instruction (DI) in vocational schools in Indonesia, particularly in the Riau Islands. The objective is to examine how teachers adapt DI to students'' diverse needs and the impact of DI training, especially among the few Guru Penggerak-certified educators. This study utilizes a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observations. Purposive sampling was used to select three teachers from different schools, focusing on their perceptions and practices related to DI within the Merdeka Curriculum framework. The study concludes that while Differentiated Instruction (DI) is being implemented effectively by English teachers within the Merdeka Curriculum, there are variations in its application. Teacher training is crucial in enhancing DI practices, but challenges remain in material access, school culture, and alignment with modern trends. Recommendations include expanding DI-focused professional development, improving resource availability, and fostering a more supportive school culture for DI integration
Constructivist Philosophy of Student-Centred Learning Approach in Indonesian Higher Education Context
With an emphasis on the educational process in the setting of higher education, this research investigates the constructivist philosophy in the application of the student-centered learning (SCL) approach and the advantages and difficulties of applying constructivist theory to the SCL approach. This study applied a descriptive qualitative study. This study uses classroom observations and interviews conducted in a variety of teaching situations at a private institution in Bandung, Indonesia. According to the results, the majority of the teaching and learning process incorporates elements of constructivist philosophy, particularly the role of the lecturer, learner autonomy, active and collaborative learning, technology usage, assessment approachs, and knowledge production. It encourages more critical thinking, guided interactive learning experiences, and generally improves students’ engagement. The value of this research lies in the development and enhancement discourse on pedagogical approaches at higher education level, especially for an Indonesian situation where it may provide a significant approach to develop learning from constructivist perspective. However, the implementation of SCL faces several challenges, including differences in students’ readiness for self-directed learning directions and resistance to conventional pedagogy from some lecturers
Conversational Analysis: Taking the Turn in Extraordinary Kids - My Brother Doesn't Share His Girlfriend
This study examines taking the turn strategies within the TV program The Extraordinary Kids: My Brother Doesn’t Share His Girlfriend hosted by Steve Harvey, employing Stenström’s framework of conversation analysis. The researchers use a qualitative research method, the analysis focuses on three primary strategies: starting up, taking over, and interrupting. The findings indicate that starting up is the most frequent strategy, occurring 5 times, showcasing its role in initiating new conversational directions and maintaining the flow of interaction. Taking over occurs 3 times, reflecting moments of conversational dominance or redirection, while interrupting occurs 2 times, highlighting disruptions and shifts in conversational dynamics. This study emphasizes the importance of turn-taking in managing dialogue and maintaining engagement, providing insights into conversational patterns in media contexts. These findings contribute to the broader understanding of discourse analysis and conversational strategies, particularly in structured yet spontaneous interactions on television
The Effect of Reading Logs on Students' Reading Comprehension Performance at SMPN 3 Timpah
Reading logs are a promising tool for improving reading comprehension by fostering engagement, reflection, and metacognitive skills. This research investigates the effect of reading logs on students’ reading comprehension performance and their perceptions of its use at SMPN 3 Timpah during the 2024/2025 academic year. Focusing on rural education, it explores how reading logs support comprehension of narrative, descriptive, and procedural texts, aiming to enhance performance scores. A quantitative one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, using pretests and posttests to measure comprehension and a Likert-scale questionnaire for secondary data. The study involved 55 students from grades 7, 8, and 9. Data analysis included paired sample t-tests for performance and descriptive statistics for opinions. Results indicated significant improvement in comprehension, with p-values of 0.000 across all grades. Average scores rose from 47.1 to 62.9 in grade 7, 61.3 to 75.1 in grade 8, and 62.2 to 75.6 in grade 9. Students credited reading logs for helping identify key concepts, expand vocabulary, and enhance summarization and analysis skills. Favorable questionnaire responses highlighted the tool’s user-friendly, organized nature and its ability to boost motivation, engagement, and critical thinking. This study underscores reading logs’ potential as an effective EFL instructional strategy
PERAN BANK SAMPAH DALAM MENINGKATKAN PENDAPATAN MASYARAKAT MELALUI PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH DI DESA RANCAMULYA
The Indonesian people are starting to realize the fact that waste is no longer an urgent problem that needs to be avoided, but a solution that must be solved together as an effort to improve the community's economy. Several innovations in waste management are being explored, starting from creating a waste bank as an alternative to raising money to converting organic waste into compost.The purpose of this research is to find out how waste banks can help increase household income in Rancaengang Village, Rancamulya Village. The theory underlying this study is oath management. The research method is a qualitative descriptive research technique that produces written or oral information about the subjects studied and their actions.The results of the study show that the use of waste banks helps reduce waste in the environment and the harmful effects of waste on the environment. Residents of Rancaengang Village can gain economic benefits by utilizing waste management at the waste bank as a job. In conclusion, because waste bank-based waste management increases people's income through waste management, it can be concluded that this has many positive impacts on society. benefits for the economy, the environment, and human healt
