Understanding Islamic Banking Usage Continuance in Indonesia: A Relevance of Religiosity Perspective

    Get PDF
This study explores and analyzes religiosity as a key factor in muamalah activities to boost Islamic banking customers' intention to continue using the service. This focus arises from the intense competition in Indonesia's Islamic financial industry. Despite this competition, the Islamic banking sector still has a relatively small percentage of loyal customers, contributing to its low market share in the country. Therefore, banks must devise strategies that leverage religious factors to enhance customers' continuance intention usage (CUI). This quantitative study employed a survey method, utilizing structural equation modeling (SEM-AMOS) to meet its research objectives. The study selected Islamic banking customers as its sample and gathered 403 participants through convenience sampling. The findings indicate that this study adjusted the religiosity indicator to assess economic activity, particularly customer behavior. Additionally, the model demonstrated that religiosity can significantly enhance Islamic banking customers' CUI. This study offers policy recommendations for regulators in the Islamic banking industry, emphasizing the importance of religious factors in attracting customer continuance intention usage, as most Indonesian Muslims exhibit greater confidence in such factors

    Türkiye Wealth Fund: A Review

    Get PDF
Sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) are investment funds owned by states to implement various state objectives. SWFs date back to the 19th century, but their modern examples emerged in 1953 with the Kuwait Investment Authority. They have been extensively known in the financial world after the millennium but were not coined until 2005. They reached approximately 14 trillion USD, a paramount capacity for international financial markets. They originally stemmed from fossil fuel revenues with stabilization and saving aims. As states recognize them, their aims and resources have diversified. Currently, they appear to be a varied bulk of investment tools managed by sovereign states. Their sole collective feature is the state ownership. Although they could resemble each other to some degree in a specific group, they are not a homogeneous group of investors. The Türkiye Wealth Fund (TWF) is a distinctive SWFs. Türkiye has not had ample reserves to build an SWF, but it has used its enterprises and borrowing to build an SWFs. There is considerable controversy regarding TWF in Türkiye. In this article, I endeavored to present a general picture of TWF and the controversy surrounding it. Considering the best practices, I attempted to recommend some things to TWF to contribute to its improvement in the right way

Integration of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory and Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah for Optimizing Childcare in Long-Distance Situations

    Get PDF
Modern life often requires family members to live apart due to work or educational obligations, presenting challenges for effective parenting. This study examines strategies to optimize child-rearing in the context of physical separation by integrating Maslow’s hierarchy of needs with the principles of Maqāṣid Syarīʿah. Using a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach, the study draws on a range of scholarly sources, including journals and books. The findings demonstrate that children’s essential needs—physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self-actualization—can still be met through consistent, technology-mediated communication, such as video calls and messaging. The involvement of extended family or caregivers also plays a critical role in supporting children’s daily needs. Maslow’s framework emphasizes structured emotional support, while Maqāṣid Syarīʿah highlights the preservation of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property. Together, these frameworks offer a comprehensive model for distant parenting. The study concludes that effective parenting across distances is achievable through intentional collaboration, the appropriate use of digital tools, and alignment with both psychological and spiritual development goals

Religious Moderation within Indonesian Diaspora in Australia’s Secular Society

This study investigates the concept and practice of religious moderation within the Indonesian diaspora community in Australia, with a focus on how members navigate religious identity in a Western, secular society. Grounded in the four pillars of religious moderation established by Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs—national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence, and accommodation of local cultural values—the research employs a hybrid methodology combining online and in-person interviews, as well as direct observation, drawing on the author's field experience in Sydney. The findings highlight three core dimensions. First, the practice of religious moderation is significantly shaped by diaspora organisations such as PCI Nahdlatul Ulama Australia-New Zealand, PCI Muhammadiyah Australia, the Iqro Foundation, and the Indonesian Diaspora Network (IDN), which promote inclusive religious practices and enhance community cohesion. Second, Australian public institutions play a vital role in fostering values such as religious freedom and pluralism, providing a supportive environment for the diaspora to sustain their cultural and religious identities. Third, the Indonesian diaspora demonstrates effective acculturation by preserving religious traditions while adapting to Australia’s multicultural landscape, despite ongoing challenges related to identity negotiation in a pluralistic context. The study concludes that the Indonesian diaspora in Sydney exemplifies a resilient model of religious moderation through inclusive engagement, institutional collaboration, and cultural adaptation, offering valuable insights for broader discussions on religion, migration, and pluralism in global settings. This study investigates the concept and practice of religious moderation within the Indonesian diaspora community in Australia, with a focus on how members navigate religious identity in a Western, secular society. Reaffirming Javanese Patriarchy: Gender Roles and Cultural Identity in K.H. Bisri Musthafa’s Tafsīr al-Ibrīz

    Get PDF
This research examines the intersection between Qur'anic interpretation and Javanese culture, focusing on K.H. Bisri Musthafa’s Tafsīr al-Ibrīz, a commentary written in Javanese using pegon script. The study employs an in-depth analytical approach, addressing two key aspects: the representation of verses concerning gender relations (men and women), and the dynamic interplay between the interpreter’s perspective and the Javanese cultural framework. As a library-based study, this research adopts a descriptive-analytical method, utilizing hermeneutic theory to analyze the triad of text, interpreter, and socio-cultural context. The findings reveal that al-Ibrīz positions men as the leaders of the household, asserting their authority over women, who are expected to submit to male guardianship. The commentary emphasizes biological determinism: men are portrayed as physically strong and resilient, thus assigned the role of providers and protectors, while women are associated with gentleness and confined to domestic spheres—summarized in the Javanese culture as macak (grooming), masak (cooking), and manak (childbearing). Additionally, the interpretation highlights women’s reproductive functions, including menstruation, menopause, and breastfeeding obligations. The analysis confirms a cultural-textual synergy: the interpreter’s model aligns with traditional Javanese patriarchy, where men dominate household governance, and women occupy a subordinate position. Gender and its Relationship with the Development of Islam on Ay Island, Banda Neira: A Socio-Religious Study

    Get PDF
This research aims to analyze the relationship between gender and the development of Islam on Ay Island, Banda Neira, from a socio-religious perspective. The main focus of this research is the role of men and women in religious life, Islamic education, and their involvement in socio-religious practices. This research uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. Data were obtained through surveys, interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis of the history of Islamic development on Ay Island. The results show that there are differences in participation between men and women in various socio-religious aspects. In religious leadership, 85% of formal positions are still dominated by men, while women are more active in informal Islamic education such as pengajian and madrasah, with 72% of community-based activities managed by women. However, only 35% of women hold leadership positions in formal socio-religious organizations. In addition, 64% of women feel they have limited access to large-scale religious activities, although 78% of communities have shown increased acceptance of women's active role in socio-religious activities. The implications of this study show that although Islam on Ay Island provides space for women's participation, there are still gaps in access and formal leadership. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase women's involvement in wider religious activities through more inclusive policies and strengthening women's capacity in leadership. The results of this study contribute to the understanding of gender dynamics in coastal Muslim communities and provide insights for academics and policy makers in developing Islam-based gender empowerment strategies.   REFERENCES Aldi, Muhammad, and Ahmad Barizi. “Filsafat Ilmu Dalam Perspektif Budaya Alam Minangkabau: Membangun Kearifan Lokal Untuk Pengembangan Pengetahuan.” Teaching and Learning Journal of Mandalika (Teacher) e-ISSN 2721-9666 6, no. 1 (2025): 212–21. https://doi.org/10.36312/teacher.v6i1.4124 Aldi, Muhammad, and Akhmad Nurul Kawakib. “Reconstruction of Islamic Education Philosophy in Minangkabau Customary Values: Actualizing the Principles of Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah.” JIIP-Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pendidikan 8, no. 2 (2025): 1548–57. https://doi.org/10.54371/jiip.v8i2.6902 Aldi, Muhammad, and Retisfa Khairanis. “The Synergy of Religion and Malay Culture in Improving the Empowerment of Islamic Communities Towards Achieving SDGS.” PERADA 7, no. 2 (2024). https://doi.org/10.35961/perada.v7i2.1758 Aldi, Muhammad, and Moh Toriquddin. “History of Thought Syuhudi Ismail: A Study of Textual and Contextual Analysis of Prophetic Hadiths.” J-CEKI: Jurnal Cendekia Ilmiah 4, no. 2 (2025): 1723–32. https://doi.org/10.56799/jceki.v4i2.7141 Berryman, Alex J, Andrew J Spencer, Puja Sharma, and James A Eaton.
