    Building the Welfare of East Java Migrant Workers Through the Maqashid Syariah Approach in Economic and Social Empowerment

    East Java with 41.8 million people is the province that sends the highest number of migrant workers, especially from Malang, Bojonegoro, Lamongan, Kediri, and Ponorogo. Although female migrant workers contribute IDR 251.1 trillion in remittances (2024), they still face various social and spiritual problems. This study aims to analyze the welfare of female migrant workers from the perspective of Maqashid Syariah by reviewing the fulfillment of the five main dimensions of Hifdz ad-Din, Hifdz an-Nafs, Hifdz al-'Aql, Hifdz an-Nasab, and Hifdz al-Maal. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a comparative approach to understand the dynamics of the welfare of female migrant workers in four purposively selected districts, namely Ponorogo, Kediri, and Malang. Data were collected through in-depth interviews (including video calls for overseas informants), participatory observation, and documentation analysis. Data sources include migrant and ex-migrant workers, employees of the Manpower Office, lecturers, university LPPM teams, and written documents as secondary data. Data analysis uses the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana which includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification at two levels of single case analysis and cross-case analysis. The results of the study show that the welfare of female migrant workers is only fulfilled in two aspects, namely Hifdz al-Maal (maintenance of property) and Hifdz al-'Aql (maintenance of reason). The other three aspects of Hifdz an-Nafs, Hifdz an-Nasab, and Hifdz ad-Din have not been fulfilled optimally and require serious attention through policies that are gender justice and based on maqashid values. The novelty of this research lies in the comprehensive analysis of the portrait of the welfare of female migrant workers using the concept of Maqashid Syariah Ash-Syatibi, which not only emphasizes economic aspects, but also the dimensions of education, family, security, and religious compliance. Abstrak Jawa Timur dengan 41,8 juta penduduk menjadi provinsi pengirim pekerja migran tertinggi, terutama dari Malang, Bojonegoro, Lamongan, Kediri, dan Ponorogo. Meski PMI perempuan menyumbang remitansi Rp251,1 triliun (2024), mereka masih menghadapi berbagai persoalan sosial dan spiritual. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesejahteraan pekerja migran perempuan dari perspektif Maqashid Syariah dengan meninjau keterpenuhan lima dimensi utama Hifdz ad-Din, Hifdz an-Nafs, Hifdz al-‘Aql, Hifdz an-Nasab, dan Hifdz al-Maal. Menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan komparatif untuk memahami dinamika kesejahteraan pekerja migran perempuan di empat kabupaten yang dipilih secara purposif, yaitu Ponorogo, Kediri, dan Malang. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam (termasuk panggilan video bagi informan di luar negeri), observasi partisipatif, dan analisis dokumentasi. Sumber data mencakup pekerja migran dan eks migran, pegawai Dinas Tenaga Kerja, dosen, tim LPPM perguruan tinggi, serta dokumen tertulis sebagai data sekunder. Analisis data menggunakan model interaktif Miles, Huberman, dan Saldana yang meliputi kondensasi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan dan verifikasi kesimpulan pada dua tingkat analisis kasus tunggal dan lintas kasus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesejahteraan pekerja migran perempuan baru terpenuhi pada dua aspek, yaitu Hifdz al-Maal (pemeliharaan harta) dan Hifdz al-‘Aql (pemeliharaan akal). Adapun tiga aspek lainnya Hifdz an-Nafs, Hifdz an-Nasab, dan Hifdz ad-Din belum terpenuhi secara optimal dan memerlukan perhatian serius melalui kebijakan yang berkeadilan gender dan berbasis nilai maqashid.     PEMBERDAYAAN MASYARAKAT MELALUI PROGRAM OLAH SABIN (SAWAH BINAAN) DI DESA MELATI, SAMPUNG, PONOROGO

    Program Olah Sabin (Sawah Binaan) merupakan inovasi pemberdayaan masyarakat yang dilaksanakan sejak 2021 di RT 01/02, Dukuh Sekar, Desa Melati, Sampung, Ponorogo. Program ini berawal dari hibah tanah sawah seluas 1.400 m² oleh Haji Sukur kepada masyarakat setempat. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis implementasi dan dampak Program Olah Sabin terhadap pemberdayaan masyarakat dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif melalui pendekatan studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dokumentasi, dan focus group discussion. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa program memberikan dampak positif, baik secara ekonomi melalui tambahan pendapatan Rp15.000.000–17.000.000 per tahun bagi pengelola, maupun sosial melalui penguatan kohesi masyarakat dengan sistem undian yang adil, serta religius melalui kontribusi 30% hasil panen untuk Masjid Ar-Rohman. Sistem bagi hasil 70:30 terbukti efektif menyeimbangkan kepentingan individu dan kolektif. Selain itu, program mendorong transfer pengetahuan, pemberdayaan perempuan, dan penguatan kelembagaan sosial. Kendati menghadapi tantangan teknis dan sosial, Program Olah Sabin memiliki potensi sebagai model pemberdayaan masyarakat berkelanjutan yang dapat direplikasi di daerah lain

    STUDENT TEACHERS’ CHALLENGES TOWARD ACTION RESEARCH IN TEACHER EDUCATION COLLEGE

    Research activities provide an important aspect of graduate students, and it promotes critical thinking, reasoning and rational decision making among the researchers. However, doing research is not easy for students; especially, students who has never conducted research. This study aimed to highlight challenges of student teachers facing with action research implementation. Cross-sectional descriptive research was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire via google form distributed to 184 student teachers from primary and lower secondary in 12+4 program in Phnom Penh Teacher College (PTEC). The questionnaire consisted of two sections with questions aimed at collecting demographic data and data regarding perspective of student teachers towards difficulties of the student-researchers. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 22. Descriptive and inferential statistics were calculated. The results show that student teachers had many challenges on research knowledge and skills. These challenges derived from student-related challenges, mentor-student challenges, and institution-related challenges. The study suggested that student teachers should have more training on practical research skills, rather than theory, proposed to conduct other topics beside teaching and learning method, more follow up student teacher’s research progress, action research in Khmer language should be promoted through PTEC lecturers, and research written format should be specific and unique, not often be changed

    Translanguaging in Indonesian Corporate Setting: Sociolinguistic Phenomenon, Affordances, and Constraints

    In Indonesia’s increasingly globalized and multilingual corporate landscape, translanguaging—the fluid use of multiple languages in communication—has emerged as a prevalent and strategic practice. This paper explores Indonesian-English translanguaging in corporate settings as a sociolinguistic phenomenon, as it socially situated, interaction-based, identity-linked, power-sensitive, context-dependent, and meaning-oriented. Using a library-based interpretivist approach, the research illustrates how employees employ translanguaging to clarify complex ideas, embed cultural relevance, and facilitate real-time collaboration. However, persistent constraints remain, such as language hierarchies, unequal English proficiency, and institutional resistance. The findings advocate for a reframing of translanguaging—not as linguistic deviation, but as a valuable communicative resource that bridges cultural divides, boosts workplace productivity, and supports professional advancement

    The Role of Friendship in Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV Series: A Lacanian Psychoanalytic Study of Identity and Emotional Development

    This study explores the role of friendship in shaping the psychological development of the main character in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series through the lens of Lacan’s psychoanalytic theory. The research aims to examine how Percy’s relationships, particularly with the main character’s friends, contribute to identity formation and emotional growth. This study adopts a qualitative and thematic textual analysis approach, guided by Lacanian psychoanalytic theory. The data collection involved close reading and repeated viewing of key episodes. By applying Lacan’s key concepts, including the Mirror Stage, desire, lack (manque), and the triadic orders of the Imaginary, the Symbolic, and the Real, this study analyzes how the series portrays friendship as a vital medium through which the main character navigates his sense of self and subjectivity. The findings suggest that friendship functions not only as emotional support but also as a reflective structure that drives the main character’s evolving identity. The Symbolic becomes central when friendships provide moral language and social recognition, especially through Annabeth’s and Grover’s dialogue. Moreover, the study reveals that the series subverts conventional heroic narratives by emphasizing psychological depth and emotional dependency, positioning friendship as central to the hero’s journey. This analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of how contemporary screen adaptations can integrate psychoanalytic dimensions into character development

    The rapid advancement of digital technology has created serious cognitive challenges for children, particularly the emergence of digital brainrot and brain fog. This article analyzes the strategies employed by Muslim families to prevent digital cognitive impairment in children by integrating perspectives from Islamic Family Law and Indonesia’s Child Protection Law No. 35 of 2014 (Articles 20–26). Using a qualitative library research method, this study examines primary and secondary sources from Islamic literature and statutory law. Findings reveal that Muslim families play a central and multidimensional role grounded in the principles of maqashid syari’ah, especially hifdz al-‘aql (protection of intellect) and hifdz al-nasl (protection of progeny). The convergence between Islamic teachings on education (tarbiyah) and parental exemplarity (uswah hasanah), along with legal obligations enshrined in child protection law, forms a comprehensive framework for implementing preventive strategies. These include digital literacy education, adaptive screen-time management, non-digital stimulation, content supervision, parental modeling, and the development of 21st-century soft skills. Holistic application of these strategies is vital to shaping a resilient, intelligent, and morally grounded 2045 Golden Generation amid rapid digital transformation. Artikel ini mengkaji strategi keluarga Muslim dalam mencegah gangguan kognitif digital melalui pendekatan kualitatif berbasis kajian pustaka. Integrasi antara perspektif Hukum Keluarga Islam dan Undang-Undang Perlindungan Anak No. 35 Tahun 2014 Pasal 20–26 menunjukkan bahwa keluarga memiliki peran sentral dalam perlindungan anak, berlandaskan prinsip maqashid syari’ah, khususnya hifdz al-‘aql dan hifdz al-nasl. Temuan penelitian menekankan pentingnya strategi preventif berupa literasi digital, pengelolaan waktu layar, stimulasi aktivitas non-digital, pengawasan konten, keteladanan orang tua, dan penguatan soft skills anak.     Value-Based Intermediation in Islamic Finance in Malaysia: An Overview on Strategy, Issues and Challenges

    Introduction: This study looks into how Value-Based Intermediation (VBI) is framed and implemented in the context of Islamic finance in Malaysia, especially through the efforts of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). VBI, which was introduced by BNM in 2017, is an initiative that aims to bring Islamic banking back to its original ethical foundations. It focuses on achieving the higher objectives of Shariah (Maqasid al-Shariah) by promoting practices that generate real, positive impact on the economy, society, and environment without sacrificing financial performance. Research Methods: The research uses qualitative methods, mainly by analysing documents such as the VBI strategy paper and other related guidelines issued by BNM. Results: The study identifies the VBIAF and VBI Scorecard as key instruments that support the integration of value-based principles in Islamic financial institutions. Despite this progress, challenges remain, particularly in shifting the industry’s profit-oriented mindset. The findings also confirm that VBI aligns closely with Maqasid al-Shariah and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).     Bahasa Sarkas dalam Film Yowis Ben 2: Analisis Pragmatik pada Dialog Karakter

    Abstrak: Penelitian ini menganalisis penggunaan sarkasme dalam dialog film Yowis Ben 2 dari perspektif pragmatik. Film ini banyak menggunakan bahasa sarkastik yang mencerminkan dinamika komunikasi sehari-hari dalam budaya Jawa, terutama di kalangan remaja. Sarkasme dalam film ini tidak hanya berfungsi untuk menambah humor, tetapi juga sebagai alat untuk menyampaikan pesan tersembunyi, sindiran, atau kritik sosial. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk sarkasme, seperti sarkasme tindakan, sifat, dan sebutan, serta memahami bagaimana penggunaan sarkasme ini membantu pembentukan karakter dan dinamika sosial antar tokoh. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis kualitatif dengan pendekatan pragmatik, yang menekankan pada makna yang muncul dalam konteks sosial dan budaya. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa sarkasme dalam Yowis Ben 2 berfungsi sebagai strategi komunikasi untuk menggambarkan ketegangan emosional, kritik sosial, dan interaksi antar karakter dalam konteks kehidupan remaja Jawa. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya literatur pragmatik dan memberikan wawasan baru tentang peran sarkasme dalam budaya lokal Indonesia, khususnya dalam film. Selain itu, temuan ini juga membuka peluang untuk penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai pengaruh sarkasme dalam media populer terhadap sikap sosial masyarakat. Kata Kunci sarkasme; pragmatic; komunikasi; budaya Jawa; Yowis Ben 2 Abstract:  This study analyzes the use of sarcasm in the dialogue of  Yowis Ben 2 from a pragmatic perspective. The movie uses a lot of sarcastic language that reflects the dynamics of daily communication in Javanese culture, especially among teenagers. Sarcasm in this film not only serves to add humor, but also as a tool to convey hidden messages, satire, or social criticism. The purpose of this study is to identify forms of sarcasm, such as sarcasm of actions, traits, and designations, and to understand how the use of sarcasm helps character building and social dynamics between characters. The method used is qualitative analysis with a pragmatic approach, which emphasizes the meanings that arise in social and cultural contexts. The results of the analysis show that sarcasm in Yowis Ben 2 functions as a communication strategy to illustrate emotional tension, social criticism, and interaction between characters in the context of Javanese teenage life. This research is expected to enrich the pragmatics literature and provide new insights into the role of sarcasm in Indonesian local culture, particularly in film. In addition, the findings also open up opportunities for further research on the influence of sarcasm in popular media on people's social attitudes.     Strategi Pembelajaran Literasi Digital untuk Meningkatkan Literasi Siswa di SMKN 1 Ponorogo

    Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi strategi pengajaran berbasis literasi digital dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di SMKN 1 Ponorogo. Literasi digital, sebagai keterampilan penting di era informasi, mencakup kemampuan untuk memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi secara efektif dalam proses belajar-mengajar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif untuk mengidentifikasi dan memaparkan penerapan literasi digital di sekolah tersebut. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa SMKN 1 Ponorogo telah melakukan upaya signifikan dalam penerapan literasi digital. Pemanfaatan teknologi seperti perangkat komputer, proyektor, dan akses internet mendukung proses pembelajaran yang lebih interaktif dan variatif. Inovasi seperti penggunaan modul ajar digital dan platform digital populer seperti TikTok telah berhasil meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa dan menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang relevan dengan dunia teknologi yang mereka hadapi sehari-hari. Meskipun demikian, tantangan utama yang diidentifikasi adalah belum adanya perpustakaan digital, yang penting untuk mendukung akses siswa terhadap sumber belajar secara mandiri.Secara keseluruhan, SMKN 1 Ponorogo menunjukkan kemajuan dalam penerapan literasi digital, dengan berbagai strategi inovatif yang diterapkan dalam proses pembelajaran. Namun, untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran berbasis digital secara menyeluruh, diperlukan langkah-langkah tambahan, terutama dalam pengadaan fasilitas perpustakaan digital. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pengembangan lebih lanjut dari infrastruktur digital untuk memperkuat literasi digital dan mempersiapkan siswa menghadapi tantangan di era modern. Digital literacy, as an important skill in the information age, includes the ability to utilize information and communication technology effectively in the teaching and learning process. This research uses qualitative methods with a descriptive approach to identify and explain the implementation of digital literacy in the school. Data collection techniques were carried out using interviews, observation and documentation. The research results show that SMKN 1 Ponorogo has made significant efforts in implementing digital literacy. The use of technology such as computers, projectors and internet access supports a more interactive and varied learning process. Innovations such as the use of digital teaching modules and popular digital platforms such as TikTok have succeeded in increasing student engagement and creating learning experiences that are relevant to the world of technology they encounter every day. However, the main challenge identified is the absence of a digital library, which is important to support students' access to independent learning resources. Overall, SMKN 1 Ponorogo shows progress in implementing digital literacy, with various innovative strategies implemented in the learning process. However, to improve the quality of digital-based learning as a whole, additional steps are needed, especially in providing digital library facilities. This research recommends further development of digital infrastructure to strengthen digital literacy and prepare students to face the challenges of the modern era.     Analisis Halal Value Chain dalam Mencapai Produk Halal Berkesinambungan pada UMKM di Kota Madiun

    Introduction: This study examines the importance of analyzing the halal value chain to ensure the halal assurance of every business activity to achieve sustainable halal products. MSMEs actors should apply halal principles throughout the value chain, but some MSMEs actors still have obstacles in applying halal principles to several product value chains. Research Methods: This research uses descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Results: The results show that MSMEs have weaknesses in halal exit logistics and written procedures on halal product production despite strong support from the government in education, licensing, and marketing. Conclusion: For science, the results of the study play a role in enriching the theoretical knowledge of the halal value chain as a means of halal literacy. In the practical setting, a deep understanding of halal principles is a reference in strengthening the halal value chain as well as for all parties involved, namely MSMEs, suppliers, logistics service providers, government, and educators. In addition, these findings will provide an evaluation for related parties so that the implementation of the halal value chain is getting better, so that it can help encourage sustainable growth for MSMEs and advance the global halal industry.Pendahuluan: Penerapan prinsip-prinsip halal di seluruh rantai nilai produk UMKM mulai dari bahan baku, proses produksi hingga distribusi dan konsumsi menjadi penting, mengingat semakin meningkatnya kesadaran konsumen Muslim tentang pentingnya produk yang sesuai syariah. Pelaku UMKM seharusnya menerapkan prinsip-prinsip halal di seluruh rantai nilai, namun masih ada pelaku UMKM UMKM yang masih memiliki kendala dalam menerapkan prinsip halal pada beberapa rantai nilai produk. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi rantai nilai halal terdiri dari kegiatan utama, kegiatan pendukung, dan dukungan pemerintah terhadap rantai nilai halal. Pelaku UMKM telah melakukan jaminan halal pada setiap kegiatan tersebut dan memperoleh dukungan pemerintah dalam bentuk perizinan fasilitasi, pemasaran, promosi, dan edukasi. Meskipun dalam pelaksanaannya dalam pelaksanaannya masih terdapat pelaku UMKM yang belum memaksimalkan pemenuhan produksi, distribusi produk, dan pemasaran. Kesimpulan: Penelitian ini adalah pentingnya analisis rantai nilai halal untuk memastikan kehalalan kehalalan setiap kegiatan usaha sehingga dapat mencapai produk halal yang berkelanjutan. Melalui analisis rantai nilai halal, dapat diketahui aktivitas mana yang perlu ditingkatkan dan dikembangkan aspek kehalalannya
