    ANALYSIS OF VISUAL REPRESENTATIONS OF WATER TOPICS IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEXTBOOKS: IMPLICATIONS FOR SCIENCE LITERACY AND POTENTIAL MISCONCEPTIONS

    The low performance of Indonesian students in the PISA 2022 science assessment highlights ongoing challenges in science literacy, especially in interpreting scientific visuals. Textbooks, as the primary learning resource, play a vital role in shaping students’ conceptual understanding. This study examines how water related topics are visually represented in junior high school science textbooks and explores their implications for science literacy and potential misconceptions. A descriptive qualitative method was applied using purposive sampling of nine BSE textbooks published by the Ministry of Education and Culture, covering grades VII–IX in both the 2013 and Merdeka (Indonesian independent) curricula. Visual data were classified into four categories: water, water and society, technology, and sustainability and responsibility. Content analysis was conducted with a coding instrument validated by two experts, one in water literacy and the other in science learning and the data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model with RStudio support for visualization. In total, 104 visuals were identified. The majority (63%) belonged to the “water” category, while “water and society” (17%), “technology” (12%), and “sustainability and responsibility” (8%) were underrepresented. Both curricula concentrated visuals in grade VII, with fewer in grades VIII and IX. Common inaccuracies included incomplete water cycle diagrams that omitted infiltration and percolation processes, potentially fostering misconceptions. These findings indicate that textbook visuals emphasize conceptual aspects of water while neglecting social, technological, and sustainability dimensions. This imbalance restricts students’ opportunities to develop comprehensive science literacy. The study underscores the need for more accurate, contextual, and real world aligned textbook visuals to support curriculum goals and reduce misconceptions

    Investigating Undergraduates’ Professionalism Expectations to The English Language Education Department Curriculum: A Case Study

    This qualitative case study investigates the professionalism expectations of undergraduate students in the English Language Education Department at Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya concerning their curriculum and study materials. Drawing on in-depth interviews with five graduates from batches 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, supplemented by curriculum documents and academic transcripts, the research identifies a significant gap between students' academic preparation and the demands of their diverse professional careers. Findings reveal that while the curriculum is generally acknowledged as a crucial roadmap for education, specific courses, most notably literature and English syntax, are widely perceived as lacking practical contribution to daily work in various fields, including teaching, tourism, transportation, administration, and hospitality. This disconnect is further exacerbated by a divergence between initial career aspirations and actual employment realities, often influenced by academic performance (GPA) and limited job market opportunities. The study highlights a clear undergraduate perspective advocating for a more practical and professionally relevant curriculum. Graduates expressed a strong desire for reduced theoretical content, increased hands-on application, and the integration of courses that directly address career readiness, job market dynamics, and professional ethics. The implications of this research underscore the critical need for the English Language Education Department to re-evaluate and adjust its curriculum to better align with the evolving needs of the workforce, thereby enhancing graduates' preparedness and competitiveness in their respective careers

    BERDAMAI DENGAN PERBEDAAN: PERAN PENDIDIKAN MULTIKULTURAL TERHADAP PERSEPSI SISWA MUSLIM TERHADAP TEMAN SEBAYA NONMUSLIM DI SEKOLAH MENENGAH ATAS

    This study examines Muslim students' perceptions of religious moderation towards non-Muslim peers and the role of multicultural education in fostering tolerance at SMAN 1 Karas, against the backdrop of interreligious conflicts among school-aged adolescents. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentary analysis, with triangulation applied to ensure validity. The findings reveal three key insights: firstly, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Character Education teachers play a pivotal role in instilling multicultural values through classroom instruction, mentoring, and collaborative extracurricular activities, emphasising principles of justice, equality, and respect for diversity rooted in Islamic teachings. Secondly, Muslim students predominantly exhibit positive attitudes towards non-Muslim peers, perceiving religious pluralism as integral to Islamic values that uphold fairness and mutual recognition. Thirdly, harmonious interfaith interactions are evident in both academic settings—such as group discussions and collaborative projects—and non-academic spheres, including basketball, scouting, and English club activities, which serve as practical platforms for embodying pluralism and democratic values. The study concludes that SMAN 1 Karas’s integrative approach to multicultural education effectively promotes religious moderation and mitigates sectarian tensions, recommending its contextual adaptation for other educational institutions. These findings contribute to broader discourses on inclusive pedagogy and institutional strategies for nurturing tolerance, underscoring the interplay between curricular frameworks, teacher agency, and student-led socialisation processes in shaping interreligious dynamics within school environments.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis persepsi moderasi beragama siswa Muslim terhadap teman non-Muslim serta strategi pendidikan multikultural dalam membentuk karakter toleransi di SMAN 1 Karas. Latar belakang penelitian didasari fenomena konflik antarsiswa akibat perbedaan agama, mendorong sekolah untuk mengimplementasikan pendidikan multikultural sebagai upaya menciptakan lingkungan inklusif. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan secara interaktif dengan teknik triangulasi untuk memastikan keabsahan temuan. Hasil penelitian mengungkap tiga temuan utama: Pertama, guru Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) dan Budi Pekerti memainkan peran kunci dalam menanamkan nilai-nilai multikultural melalui pembelajaran di dalam dan luar kelas, termasuk diskusi, keteladanan, dan kegiatan kolaboratif. Kedua, siswa Muslim di SMAN 1 Karas menunjukkan persepsi positif terhadap teman non-Muslim, memandang keberagaman sebagai bagian dari prinsip Islam yang menjunjung keadilan, kesetaraan, dan penghormatan atas perbedaan. Ketiga, interaksi harmonis terwujud dalam aktivitas akademik (seperti kerja kelompok) dan non-akademik (ekstrakurikuler basket, pramuka, dan bahasa Inggris), yang menjadi sarana praktik nyata nilai pluralisme dan demokrasi. Kesimpulan penelitian menegaskan bahwa integrasi pendidikan multikultural dalam kurikulum dan budaya sekolah efektif memperkuat moderasi beragama dan mengurangi potensi konflik. Temuan ini merekomendasikan perlunya model serupa di sekolah lain dengan adaptasi konteks lokal. Implikasi penelitian berkontribusi pada pengembangan teori pendidikan inklusif dan kebijakan sekolah yang berorientasi pada toleransi

    Zakat plays a strategic role in supporting socio-economic development and equitable welfare distribution in Indonesia. However, the optimization of national zakat potential still faces a significant gap between estimated potential and actual collection. This article aims to analyze the role of regulation and public policy in strengthening national zakat governance by highlighting regulatory dynamics, institutional effectiveness, and the synergy between the government, the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), and Zakat Management Organizations (LAZ). The study employs a qualitative approach with descriptive-analytical methods through literature review, secondary data, and policy comparisons based on academic works and institutional reports. The findings indicate that zakat regulation, particularly after the enactment of Law No. 23 of 2011, provides a stronger legal foundation for zakat institutions but still encounters challenges in harmonizing technical regulations, fostering multisectoral coordination, and implementing modern governance standards based on digitalization. The analysis also reveals that public policies adaptive to socio-economic and technological developments play a significant role in enhancing transparency, accountability, and public trust. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of reformulating zakat policies to be more integrative with the national development agenda, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as strengthening regulatory systems capable of driving zakat realization closer to its national potential

    Riba-Free Financial Empowerment for Muslim Women: A Path to Sustainable Independence

    Introduction: This study analyzes the implementation of BankZiska Ponorogo’s women’s empowerment program through riba-free financing aimed at eliminating riba practices and promoting sustainable economic independence. Research Methods: Using a qualitative explanatory case study, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving BankZiska’s directors, managers, volunteers, and female beneficiaries. Results: The Al-Qardhul Hasan-based financing provides interest-free, collateral-free capital for women micro-entrepreneurs excluded from formal finance. It improves their income, business stability, and spiritual awareness through mentoring and Islamic financial education, fostering greater confidence and independence. Conclusion: BankZiska’s riba-free model effectively empowers women and promotes inclusive, ethical, and sustainable economic growth. It demonstrates that Islamic social finance can advance financial inclusion, poverty reduction, and gender equality in line with the SDGs

    ANXIETY (KECEMASAN) DAN CARA MENGATASINYA MENURUT SAYYID QUTHB DALAM TAFSIR FĪ ẒILĀL AL- QUR’ĀN

    Anxiety is an emotional condition characterized by feelings of discomfort, fear, and worry about uncertain future events. This study uses a qualitative literature review method, focusing on an in-depth understanding of written sources, especially Sayyid Qutb's Tafsir Fī Ẓilāl Al-Qur'ān which is supported by books, journals, and articles. The data were analyzed descriptively and systematically by presenting Sayyid Qutb's interpretation. This study interprets Sayyid Qutb's views on the symptoms, factors causing anxiety, and how to overcome it. Anxiety is seen as a mental state that arises due to fear of the future, and weak faith. He advocates a spiritual approach to overcoming anxiety through dhikr, tawakal, and patience, which aims to achieve inner peace. Sayyid Qutb's interpretation has advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are in terms of simple language style, and easy to understand. However, this interpretation has disadvantages, especially in terms of the lack of in-depth explanation of the meaning of the words in the verse and Sayyid Qutb's limitations in compiling his workKecemasan merupakan suatu kondisi emosional yang ditandai dengan perasaan tidak nyaman, takut, dan khawatir terhadap kejadian masa depan yang tidak pasti. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kajian pustaka kualitatif, dengan fokus pada pemahaman mendalam terhadap sumber-sumber tertulis, khususnya Tafsir Fī Ẓilāl Al-Qur'ān karya Sayyid Qutb yang didukung oleh buku, jurnal, dan artikel. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan sistematis dengan menyajikan tafsir Sayyid Qutb. Penelitian ini menginterpretasikan pandangan Sayyid Qutb tentang gejala, faktor penyebab kecemasan, dan cara mengatasinya. Kecemasan dipandang sebagai suatu keadaan mental yang muncul akibat ketakutan terhadap masa depan, dan lemahnya iman. Ia menganjurkan pendekatan spiritual untuk mengatasi kecemasan melalui dzikir, tawakal, dan kesabaran, yang bertujuan untuk mencapai kedamaian batin. Tafsir Sayyid Qutb memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan. Kelebihannya adalah dari segi gaya bahasa yang sederhana, dan mudah dipahami. Namun penafsiran ini memiliki kekurangan terutama dari sisi tidak mendalamnya penjelasan makna kata-kata dalam ayat tersebut dan keterbatasan Sayyid Qutb dalam menyusun karyanya

    The language of the Qur’an possesses a distinctive aesthetic through the lexical filtration of each fragment, wherein specific meanings and purposes are embedded and must be explored comprehensively. This study positions itself within that tradition by examining one of the frequently recurring terms in the Qur’an, khasyyah. This word is often interpreted as "fear," yet it carries various characteristics and nuanced connotations. The present article seeks to provide an essential exposition on the semantic depth of khasyyah in the Qur’an, including its categorization when directed toward Allah, thereby offering a broader discourse on the conceptual richness of the term. Methodologically, this study adopts a qualitative paradigm by applying the principles of library research. The secondary sources are drawn primarily from the anatomy of the Qur’an, focusing solely on the analysis of khasyyah and its derivations. This data is further supported by relevant references such as classical Arabic dictionaries, Qur’anic exegesis, scholarly books, and academic articles. For the analytical framework, the study employs the encyclopedic semantic method, which aims to trace the semantic trajectory of khasyyah within the Qur’anic discourse. The findings reveal that this term appears in multiple derivative forms throughout the Qur’an, producing a range of meanings. These include the classification of khasyyah as both a stimulative and resultant emotional response toward Allah, as well as other correlational meanings such as hardship (masyaqqah), compulsion, anxiety, calamity, despair, and war.Bahasa Al-Qur’an memiliki keindahan yang khas melalui penyaringan leksikal dalam setiap fragmennya, di mana makna dan tujuan tertentu tersimpan dan perlu digali secara menyeluruh. Penelitian ini menempatkan dirinya dalam tradisi tersebut dengan menelaah salah satu kata yang kerap muncul dalam Al-Qur’an, yakni khasyyah. Kata ini sering dimaknai sebagai “takut”, namun mengandung berbagai karakteristik dan konotasi yang lebih halus serta mendalam. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan uraian esensial mengenai kedalaman makna khasyyah dalam Al-Qur’an, termasuk kategorisasinya ketika diarahkan kepada Allah, sehingga dapat membuka ruang diskusi yang lebih luas terhadap kekayaan konseptual dari istilah tersebut. Secara metodologis, penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma kualitatif dengan menerapkan prinsip-prinsip penelitian kepustakaan (library research). Sumber data sekunder diperoleh terutama dari anatomi Al-Qur’an, dengan fokus khusus pada analisis kata khasyyah dan derivasinya. Data tersebut diperkuat dengan rujukan yang relevan seperti kamus-kamus Arab klasik, kitab-kitab tafsir Al-Qur’an, buku-buku ilmiah, dan artikel akademik. Dalam kerangka analisis, penelitian ini menerapkan metode semantik ensiklopedik yang bertujuan menelusuri jejak semantik kata khasyyah dalam wacana Al-Qur’an. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa istilah ini muncul dalam berbagai bentuk derivatif di seluruh Al-Qur’an, yang menghasilkan beragam makna. Makna-makna tersebut mencakup klasifikasi khasyyah sebagai respons emosional yang bersifat stimulatif maupun sebagai akibat terhadap Allah, serta makna korelatif lainnya seperti kesulitan (masyaqqah), paksaan, kekhawatiran, bencana, keputusasaan, dan perang. &nbsp

    Arbitration and the Emergence of Sectarianism: A Historical Examination of the Transition of Conflict from Politics to Theology

    The schism within the Islamic community reached its zenith following the Battle of Ṣiffīn, when the process of Taḥkīm, intended to alleviate the conflict between Ali ibn Abi Talib and Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan, instead incited theological divisions. This research focuses on how Taḥkīm transformed the dispute from practical politics into doctrinal debate, giving rise to various sectarian movements. This study aims to critically and historically examine the role of Taḥkīm in the emergence of sects such as the Khawārij, Shīʿah, Murjiʾah, and other theological factions. The methodology employed is a literature review, analysing classical documents and contemporary academic literature that discuss the socio-political context, the arbitration process, and the responses of various groups following Taḥkīm. The findings indicate that this arbitration not only resolved military disputes but also served as a catalyst for the formation of a fragmented Islamic intellectual structure. The implications of this study underscore the importance of re-reading the history of internal Islamic conflict in an objective and inclusive manner, enabling the community to learn from past experiences, maintain unity, and avoid the politicisation of religion that could undermine brotherhood

    Between Islamic and Western Education: The Educational Dichotomy in ‘Abd al-Raḥmān al-Naḥlāwī’s Thought

    This research aims to invigorate the discourse on the educational thought of Al-Nahlawi, a figure frequently referenced yet seldom critically examined in Indonesia. Specifically, this study aims to: (1) Analyze the major ideas and ideological underpinnings of Al-Nahlawi's thoughts; (2) Trace the influence of the socio-political context of Syria on his work; and (3) Reveal the dichotomization of Western vs. Islamic education in his discourse. To achieve these objectives, this study employs the method of hermeneutic analysis to examine his major ideas and critical discourse analysis based on Fowler's model to investigate the diction and underlying ideology of his language. The research concludes that: Al-Naḥlāwī's thinking was significantly influenced by Syria's political dynamics and his concerns about the Islamic revival, which led him to adopt a stance of resistance against the West. His central idea focuses on returning humanity to its innate nature (fitrah) through the application of ideal Islamic educational principles, covering objectives, subject matter, curriculum, and methods. The primary conclusion of this study is that Al-Naḥlāwī's critique of Western education—which he describes with vocabulary such as "calamity," "disbelief" (kufr), and "non-integral"—not only constructs a sharp dichotomy but also affirms that his work is a form of ideological resistance, clearly represented in all its elements. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meramaikan diskursus tentang pemikiran pendidikan Al-Nahlawi, seorang tokoh Pendidikan Islam yang sering dirujuk namun jarang dikritisi secara mendalam di Indonesia. Secara spesifik, tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk: (1) Menganalisis gagasan besar dan relasi ideologi dalam pemikiran Al-Nahlawi; (2) Menelusuri pengaruh konteks sosio-politik Suriah terhadap karyanya; dan (3) Mengungkap dikotomi pendidikan Barat vs. Islam dalamwacananya. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis hermeneutika untuk mengulas gagasan besarnya dan analisiswacanakritis model Fowler menginvestigasi diksi serta ideologi yang mendasari bahasanya. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa pemikiran Al-Naḥlāwī sangat dipengaruhi oleh dinamika politik Suriah dan kegundahannyaakankebangkitan Islam, yang mendorongnya pada posisi perlawanan terhadap Barat. Gagasan inti ini berfokus pada pengembalian umat manusia kepada fitrah penerapan prinsip-prinsip pendidikan Islam yang ideal, mencakuptujuan, materi, kurikulum, hingga metode.     Kepemimpinan Kepala Sekolah Dalam Membangun Lingkungan Belajar Ramah Anak

    Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini (PAUD) memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk karakter dan kepribadian anak sejak dini. Salah satu langkah strategis untuk mendukung tumbuh kembang anak secara optimal adalah melalui penerapan Sekolah Ramah Anak (SRA). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran kepala sekolah dalam mewujudkan lingkungan belajar yang ramah anak di TK Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Kesamben dan TK Negeri Pembina Wlingi, Kabupaten Blitar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi multisitus, melibatkan kepala sekolah, guru, komite, dan orang tua. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis melalui reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan lintas situs. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepala sekolah berperan penting sebagai perencana, pelaksana, pengendali, dan inovator dalam penerapan Sekolah Ramah Anak. Kepemimpinan kepala sekolah ditunjukkan melalui gaya transformasional dan kolaboratif, dengan menumbuhkan partisipasi aktif seluruh warga sekolah. Faktor pendukung meliputi budaya kerja yang terbuka, sarana prasarana memadai, serta keterlibatan orang tua. Sedangkan faktor penghambat adalah keterbatasan guru pendamping ABK dan perbedaan pemahaman orang tua terhadap konsep Sekolah Ramah Anak
