Heinrich Krieger and the Nazi Vision of the United States
On June 5, 1934, seventeen Nazi lawyers, jurists, scholars, and officials met to discuss how Nazi Germany would go about identifying and persecuting their Jewish population. This crucial meeting would lay the foundation for the Nuremberg Laws that were later created and passed in 1935. From the records of this meeting we know that US race laws concerning its black and Indian population was used as a model for the Nazi lawyers and much of the information on US race laws was obtained from research conducted by a Nazi scholar named Heinrich Krieger that was influential during the meeting.
Before this meeting Heinrich Krieger had spent a year at the University of Arkansas as a foreign exchange student during the 1933-1934 school year. While in Arkansas Krieger would partake in multiple campus activities and write a seminar paper on Nazi German labor policies as an apologist on behalf of Germany to the US. However while spending time in Arkansas Krieger would begin to notice race relations in the state that would lead him to study US race laws that would be used by Nazi officials to create the Nuremberg laws.
This thesis will study the development of Krieger while a student in Arkansas to reveal how Krieger and the Nazi party had no master plan to use the US and its race laws as a model for the Nuremberg laws. Rather by examining Krieger\u27s development from labor scholar to race scholar, we can see how Krieger and Nazi officials were opportunists who came across US race laws and saw its potential. Also, Arkansas and its race laws and race relations will be examined to learn how the state influenced Krieger\u27s research and understanding of US race laws
Fostering Economic Advancement Through Tourism Development in Dangriga, Belize
This paper discusses the relationship between economic development and the development of the tourism industry, based on a two-month project in Dangriga, Belize, which existed through collaboration of four University of Arkansas students, local community members and business owners, and organizational partners. This project explored sustainable tourism with the goal of benefiting the community\u27s continued economic advancement
Dual-Task Cost of Gait Measures in Individuals with and without Parkinson\u27s Disease
Parkinson’s disease (PD), estimated to affect over one million people by 2030, is a neurodegenerative disease that damages the dopaminergic neurons located in the brain. Losing these neurons cause individuals with PD to experience impairments in basic motor and cognitive functions. Symptoms of PD often include bodily shaking, muscle stiffness, and abnormalities in gait and posture. Individuals with PD can also experience impairment when walking and performing secondary tasks, such as walking while talking, known as dual tasking. Dual tasking can lead to increased risk of falling or losing balance, as well as the inability to move freely while carrying out tasks and walking simultaneously. Purpose: The purpose of this project was to better understand gait measures during dual task walking in individuals with PD compared to individuals without PD. Methodology: Seven individuals with PD (72 ± 3 years) and seven individuals without PD (69 ± 6 years) were recruited to participate. Each participant’s gait was analyzed using 3-dimensional motion capture while they walked at 1) a normal, comfortable pace for single-task walking trials, and 2) a normal, comfortable pace while performing a fluency dual-task where they listed words starting with a specific letter. Gait parameters of interest included gait speed (m/s), stride length (m), step width (m). Dual-Task Cost (DTC) was calculated to determine the cost of completing a secondary task while walking. A series of two tailed, t-tests were used to compare the DTC gait parameters between groups. Results: DTC for gait speed did not differ between the PD group (25.2% ± 12.4) and the control group (21.5% ± 17.3, p = .700). Similarly, DTC for stride length did not differ between groups (p = .218: PD = 13.3% ± 7.8 vs Control = -8.7% ± 10.1). Lastly, DTC for step width did not differ between groups (p = .306), with the PD group increasing step width by 16.8% ± 11.0 during dual-task walking, while the control group increased their step width by 9.1% ± 15.9. Although not statistically significant, potentially due to the small sample sizes, comparison between group means suggest a potentially meaningful increased DTC in the PD group for all gait parameters. Conclusion: This study showed no significant differences in DTC of selected gait measures for individuals with PD when compared with individuals without PD
Perpetrator nationality and prescribed punitiveness: The effect of moral disgust
Does perpetrator nationality impact prescribed punitiveness, and is this relationship explained by moral disgust? White American participants (N = 243) read a fake news article about a physical assault. Perpetrator nationality was manipulated by indicating that the offender was an American citizen or in the U.S. illegally. Then, participants completed measures on prescribed punitiveness (e.g., minimum sentence for the offender), their emotional reactions toward the offender (e.g., disgusted), as well as exploratory items on patriotism, nationalism, identification with the U.S., and belief in a dangerous world. I predicted that participants in the illegal immigrant perpetrator condition would exhibit more moral disgust toward the offender than those in the American condition, and that prescribed punitiveness would be higher for those in the illegal immigrant condition, which would be explained by moral disgust. These hypotheses were not supported
Low protein diet strategy
Reduced crude protein (CP) diets can lower nitrogen excretion and improve litter quality, but their effectiveness varies depending on the grain type, with wheat-based diets often showing poorer broiler performance compared to maize or sorghum. The digestive dynamics and synchrony between NBAA and protein-bound amino acids, along with starch-to-protein ratios, influence feed efficiency and fat deposition, which remains a challenge in reduced CP diets. Optimizing amino acid supplementation and exploring alternative protein-rich ingredients may help improve outcomes, especially in regions with limited access to soybean meal
