INNOVATING UNIVERSITY TEACHING THROUGH UDL: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE D.A.N.T.E.-U. PROJECT
The paper presents the structure and some outcomes of the PRIN 2022 project D.A.N.T.E.-U., aimed at innovating university teaching through the Universal Design for Learning model, with a specific focus on non-traditional students. After identifying this category and analysing the services provided by the five Italian partner universities, the project involves the development of an online platform for faculty, based on the adaptation of CAST’s UDL Guidelines 3.0 to the university context
COACHES’ PERCEPTIONS OF INCLUSIVE SPORTS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY
This paper presents the results of an exploratory study conducted on a sample of 113 coaches involved in inclusive sports, aimed at investigating their perceptions of educational processes and social-relational dynamics. The focus is specifically on “modified” sports activities, which involve adapting rules, equipment, and operational methods based on athletes’ functional abilities, inspired by the principles of Universal Design for Learning
ENHANCING REFLECTIVE AND METACOGNITIVE COMPETENCES IN TEACHER EDUCATION FOR THE INCLUSION OF STUDENTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
This study proposes a training activity to enhance reflective and metacognitive competences in special education teachers, with a focus on the inclusion of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Through an exercise involving the objective description of a silent short film, participants practiced inhibiting automatic mental attributions. Grounded in the theory of simplexity and educational neuroscience, the activity aimed to promote flexible, conscious, and inclusive teaching practices. Preliminary results from 177 participants show increased awareness of interpretive automatisms and support the effectiveness of this approach in fostering inclusive education
WRITING, IDENTITY, OTHERNESS
Handwriting represents the expression of the Self at all levels. It can be considered as the representation of the subject on the space of the sheet, since its components can be considered expressive of the subject's learning styles. This research intends to explore the correlation between the representations that the subject has of himself and of others, and the structure of some graphic signs that, in the horizon of meaning of psychology, can be indicative of such orientations. In particular, the investigation intends to relate the results achieved in a test that detects the subjective orientation towards oneself and towards others, and the graphic signs that, on the basis of their structure, can be considered expressive of such orientations.
DOES THE IMPLICIT MAKE A DIFFERENCE? A STUDY ON TEACHERS IN CONTEXTS OF MARGINALITY
The research aims to investigate teachers' implicit knowledge (Bruner, 1996) regarding student motivation in multi-problematic contexts. The hypothesis is that motivation, conceptualized as a "relational force" and "dynamic process" (Lewin, 1961), may represent an autonomous area of development, potentially resilient to environmental adversities, especially when supported by targeted educational interventions. Investigating teachers' implicit knowledge about student motivation is therefore crucial for promoting the implementation of appropriate educational practices. The research, which is part of a broader project (Moccia, Sabatano, Aiello, 2025), focuses on an area in the Campania region characterized by high rates of early school leaving (INVALSI, 2023) and adopts an interactive design approach (Maxwell, 2013). Data collection involves semi-structured interviews; these interviews are subjected to qualitative analysis through MAXQDA software, employing multiple levels of coding (Maxwell, 2013)
HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS: MODEL-BASED PRACTICES IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
The practice based on pedagogical-didactic models allows for overcoming the limitations of the traditional approach to physical and sports education, offering solutions to promote various learning modes and teaching strategies that foster educational values. Recent studies highlight a redefinition of the epistemological constraints and the formative values of disciplines, which can be traced back to multiple theoretical and theoretical-practical approaches. Multicomponent interventions for health promotion, carried out in educational contexts, require a thorough analysis of educational-didactic models, motor tasks, and methodologies. The aim of the study is to identify recurring educational-didactic models in the literature to guide the design and assessment of teaching. The didactic process for the Quality of Physical Education requires the identification of interdisciplinary scientific models, which are not synonymous with teaching methods or styles, but rather the cultural and formative references
ALICE IN GAMELAND: SMART ESCAPE ROOM FOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
The use of Educational Escape Rooms (EERs) enhanced with Augmented Reality (AR) and Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs) represents an innovative frontier in experiential learning. Alice in GAMEland is a digital escape room designed to improve language skills through gamification, real-time feedback, and interaction with physical objects. This study analyses usability and game experience in a sample of 148 university students from four European countries
AI-DRIVEN THESIS DEFENCE: ENHANCING LEARNING AND ENGAGEMENT THROUGH CHATBOT INTERACTION
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education is transforming teaching and learning methodologies, offering new opportunities to personalize the educational experience, provide real-time feedback, and foster active learning, thereby enhancing instructional effectiveness and student engagement (Luckin et al., 2016).This study examines a case that combines pedagogical principles inspired by constructivism (Bruner, 1996; Vygotsky, 1978) and experiential learning (Papert, 1980) with innovative technologies, resulting in an AI-driven approach that promotes active learning and knowledge construction. The case study under analysis concerns a thesis defense conducted by a chatbot trained by the student herself. The chatbot training process, based on computational storytelling and dialogic interaction, enabled the student to develop a deep and reflective understanding of the content, assuming the dual role of presenter and learner. The adoption of narrative intelligence and a personalized avatar reinforced the coherence of the presentation, enhanced engagement, and improved overall effectiveness, paving the way for further research and new perspectives on the use of advanced chatbots in higher education and scientific communication
TEACHERS' SCHOOL EXPERIENCE. A RESOURCE TO IMPROVE LEARNING
In a rapidly evolving society, educational system is called to face with new challenges. Knowledge became a participatory and shared construction of meanings for efficiently and flexibly adapting to context demands. Self-regulation is a key skill for a teacher who wants to critically analyse educational action to contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching processes. Present research explores teaching practices starting from the teaching point of view
BEYOND BARRIERS: INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES FOR THE INCLUSION OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS IN SCHOOL SPORTS ACTIVITIES
EnglishIn a constantly dynamic and changing society, educational institutions bear the responsibility to foster inclusive behaviour towards individuals with Special Educational Needs. Sport activities such as baskin and sitting volley represent tool for instilling an inclusive culture from the early stages of education, influencing the entire school community. Inclusiveness transcends physical access, aiming to create an environment that appreciates diversity and encourages universal participation.
