    Get PDF
To address the challenges of high energy consumption, costly maintenance, and inefficient management in traditional urban lighting systems, this study presents the development of the TDFY City Lighting Management System. This intelligent lighting control system is based on a hybrid communication architecture combining ZigBee and GPRS technologies. The system integrates loop and individual lamp control to optimize energy usage and reduce operational costs. By leveraging ZigBee’s wireless mesh network for decentralized lighting unit management and GPRS for remote access and monitoring, the system ensures reliable communication, remote fault detection, and efficient maintenance planning. A key feature of the system is its adaptive dimming functionality, which automatically adjusts lighting based on motion sensor input, thereby enhancing both energy efficiency and lighting performance. Implemented in real-world scenarios such as the Taiyuan Botanical Garden and Taiyuan University of Technology, the system achieved up to 40% energy savings. These results demonstrate the system’s scalability, reliability, and potential to serve as a core component in smart city infrastructure, promoting sustainable, cost-effective urban lighting solutions through advanced energy management.&nbsp

    Get PDF
This study examined the extraction of dye from coconut husk and its effects on colouring of cotton fabric. Three different solvents were used in the extraction process namely methanol, ethanol, and acetone. The ethanol fraction gave the highest yield of extraction ranging from (E3) 40.3%, (E2) 24.3%, (E1) 12.2% over acetone with (A3)37.2%, (A2) 22.5%, (A1) 11.2% and methanol with (M3) 30.3%, (M2) 18.1%, (M1) 9.15% respectively. The extract was found to be slightly acidic as the pH of the dye extracted ranges from (A2) 4.6 to (E3) 50. The dye extracted exhibits exceptional light and wash fastness using allum (aliminium sulfate) as mordant. The dyeing process also involves the interaction between the dye molecules and cotton fabric, illustrating the concept of absorption, adsorption and diffusion which makes it significant. The extracted dye can be used to create unique, sustainable textiles with potential applications in fashion, upholstery and other industries.&nbsp

The Impact of the Party’s Foreign Policy (1965–1975) on the Outcome of the Vietnamese Revolution

    Get PDF
The Party’s independent and autonomous foreign policy was formed and developed across successive revolutionary periods. During the national democratic revolution (1945–1975), the Party recognised and addressed the challenge of maintaining independence and autonomy in foreign affairs while simultaneously seeking international support and assistance. This approach involved combining national strength with global trends to build a unified force, ultimately leading the Vietnamese revolution to its historic victory in the Spring of 1975, resulting in the liberation of the South, national reunification, and the commencement of a transitional period towards socialism. In the subsequent period of defending independence and initiating reform (1975–1985), the Party’s independent and autonomous foreign policy gradually adapted to both global and domestic changes. Moreover, Party thinking evolved significantly, particularly regarding the relationship between independence, autonomy, and international integration.&nbsp

Decorative Symbolism of Islamic Motifs: Aesthetic and Cultural Analysis of Calligraphy in Mughal Textiles

    Get PDF
One of the world's most renowned periods of creative and artistic development was the Mughal Empire (1526–1857), when Islamic art flourished and was inspired by indigenous cultures. Among its artistic legacy, Islamic calligraphy on textiles is a vital form of aesthetic expression. This study explores Islamic calligraphy's decorative symbolism and aesthetic dimensions within Mughal-era textiles. Drawing upon historical references and visual analyses, the research examines how calligraphic elements were integrated with traditional Islamic motifs, such as floral and geometric patterns, to reflect cultural, religious, and political ideals. The paper also highlights the unique material techniques, design philosophies, and cross-cultural influences that shaped the visual language of Mughal textiles. By comparing Mughal calligraphic practices with those of other Islamic empires, including the Ottoman and Safavid dynasties, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the role of calligraphy in textile art. The findings contribute to broader discussions of Islamic art heritage and its continuing influence in contemporary design

Performing Parliament: Executive Scripting, Symbolic Interaction, and the Social Life of Legislation in Sierra Leone

    No full text
This article examines the dynamics of parliamentary performance in Sierra Leone’s 4th and 5th Parliaments (2012–2023), focusing on the interplay of formal rules, informal practices, and symbolic performances. Moving beyond frameworks of neopatrimonialism, electoral financing, and corruption, the study explores how executive scripting, ritualized deference, and symbolic acts such as walkouts, silences, and applause structured legislative life. Drawing on theories of symbolic interactionism and informal institutions, it demonstrates how parliamentary behaviour often reflected shadowboxing rather than substantive deliberation, creating an institutional culture marked by distrust, fragile alliances, and ritualized obedience. The analysis highlights the limits of colonial-era procedural legacies when confronted with postcolonial informal logic of loyalty and survival. It argues that Sierra Leone’s parliament functions less as a deliberative policy arena than as a contested stage of performance, where MPs navigate fatalistic outcomes through make-belief practices that signal loyalty, secure survival, yet erode institutional credibility

A field experiment was conducted in the Al-Rumaitha district area, 37 km north of Al-Muthanna Governorate, during the winter season of 2021-2022, with the aim of studying the effect of plant distribution systems within the field and the addition of supplementary phosphate fertilization on the growth and yield of rapeseed (Pactol variety). A complete randomized block design was used using the split-plot method and with four replicates. The cultivation systems included the main-plotss and the supplementary addition of phosphorus to the sub-plots. The results indicated the effect of the third supplementary addition of phosphorus on total branches number, mustards number per plant, grains number per mustard, while the first addition treatment outperformed in leaf area, and the fourth addition treatment gave the highest average in plant height. The 1000 grains weight had no significant effect. Plant distribution systems affected growth and yield traits, where the third plant distribution system gave the highest leaf area, the first system outperformed 1000 grains weight, while the plant distribution systems did not affect the other traits significantly. The interaction between the third addition treatment and the third plant distribution system achieved the highest average number of grains per mustard

Dynamics of Environmental Conditions and Persistence of Malaria, a Tropical Disease in the City of Koudougou in Burkina Faso

    No full text
Malaria is one of the oldest diseases in human history. The first scientific knowledge about this epidemic dates back to Hippocrates (5thcentury BC). The discovery of Plasmodium, the parasite responsible for malaria, by Alphonse Laveran in 1880 opened up a new and more dynamic front in the fight against this disease. However, socio-environmental factors were largely overlooked in the fight against the disease. This study therefore focuses on the socio-environmental determinants causing the emergence and persistence of malaria in the city of Koudougou. Very few studies have examined the relationship between malaria and the urban environment in medium-sized cities in Burkina Faso. The methodological approach of this research is based on a literature review and field surveys of 372 households in three (03) sectors of the city of Koudougou. The processing method used is essentially based on descriptive statistical analyses. This work shows that socio-environmental factors maintain the morbidity of this disease in the city of Koudougou, based on the results of the surveys compared with data from local health facilities. Indeed, 30% of those surveyed live less than 500 metres from a waste dump and 24% of the same respondents acknowledge the existence of a water source or flood zone near their homes
