    Get PDF
Object detection has long been a critical and challenging problem in the field of computer vision. Recently, Vision Transformers (ViT) have demonstrated exceptional performance in image classification tasks, highlighting their potential for other vision applications. In this paper, we introduce Vis-Fusion, an innovative object detection model based on Vision Transformers. By leveraging the strengths of the self-attention mechanism and convolutional neural networks, along with the integration of the GCCA (Global Context Block and Coordinate Attention) module, Vis-Fusion significantly enhances both the accuracy and robustness of object detection. We evaluate the performance of Vis-Fusion on the Mini COCO benchmark dataset, and our experimental results show that Vis-Fusion outperforms existing state-of-the-art object detection methods in terms of both detection accuracy and processing speed. This study highlights the promising potential of Transformer-based architectures for complex visual tasks and provides valuable insights for future research in this area.&nbsp

    Get PDF
Introduction: SPECT and PET radiopharmaceuticals have been used in early diagnosis of prostate cancer. C-11 methionine is a PET tracer but it is expensive and not widely available in many centres. SPECT-based tracer [99mTc] DTPA-bis (ChoEA) has shown promising results with brain tumor imaging. The uptake of [99mTc] DTPA-bis (ChoEA) is facilitated by the up-regulation of amino acid transporters which has been observed in many tumor cells to facilitate these accelerated rates of amino acid uptake. It is readily available at low cost and could possibly have potential for detection of prostate cancer. Aim of the study: To assess quality control and biodistribution of indigenously developed [99mTc] DTPA-bis (ChoEA) during initial clinical assessment in patients with prostate cancer. Objectives of the study: To study the physiological uptake of radiolabeled amino acids [99mTc]DTPA-bis(ChoEA) in patients with known carcinoma prostate and evaluate the labelling efficiency of indigenously prepared [99mTc]DTPA-bis(ChoEA) kits. Results: A total of 15 patients were included in our study. Physiological uptake of tracer [99mTc]DTPA-bis(ChoEA) was seen in liver, kidneys and blood pool in visual inspection. The tracer uptake was maximum at 1 hour and gradually reduces over next 3 hours. A total of 15 patients with carcinoma prostate were available for evaluation with [99mTc]DTPA-bis(ChoEA). This showed significant choline biodistribution at 1hr with mean liver uptake: Bkg (background) ratio of (7.7± 2.97) & kidney uptake: Bkg ratio of (6.6±0.14) in whole body imaging. Biodistribution of this tracer and its labelling efficiency on the scans was found to be satisfactory in all patients. Conclusion: This is the first study done for assessment of [99mTc]DTPA-bis(ChoEA) in patients with prostate cancer. The radiochemical purity of 99mTc- choline was nearly ~97% which was in the acceptable range with physiological tracer uptake was seen in kidneys, liver and blood pool.&nbsp

Native animals are regarded as an essential component of most agricultural production systems in rural settings. Amorphophallus campanulatus can be used as food and animal feed, however its application is limited due to its high oxalate concentration and low crude protein level. Fermentation with oxalolytic bacteria, such as Bacillus subtilis, which produces the oxalate decarboxylase enzyme, has been utilized to boost the nutritional value of pongapong.  This study aims to determine the growth performance of native pig fed with fermented pongapong as feed supplement. Specifically, to determine the effect of fermented/ensiled pongapong on the body weight-gain in weight, growth increment, feed conversion efficiency and feed conversion ratio on Philippine native pigs; determine the best level of silage pongapong to growth of Philippine Native pigs; determine the nutrient composition of fermented Amorphophalus campanulatus; and determine the economics of fermented pongapong as feed supplement for native pigs in one production cycle. The Complete Randomized Design (CRD) was utilized in the study. The treatments were follows:T1=Formulated feeds ,T2=75% Formulated feeds + 25% silage AC ,T3=50% Formulated feeds 50% silage AC, T4=25% Formulated feeds + 75% silage AC, T5= Pure ensiled AC.  Based on the analysis of variance shows insignificant among the treatments as to the initial weight, feed conversion efficiency and growth rate. Also, there are significant differences in the body weight, gain weight and feed conversion ration while it shows highly significant feed consumption throughout the duration of the study. Thus, 75% formulated feeds and 25% fermented pongapong and 50% Formulated feeds + 50% fermented pongapong results to best growth. It demonstrates that feeding native pigs with formulated feed including fermented pongapong was employed as an alternative diet that is potentially cost effective and useful in native pig production in the province. This information could help growers reduce feed costs.&nbsp

Animal Rights in Greece: Legislation and Perceptions

    Get PDF
Animal rights are a controversial issue that often causes ethical dilemmas within modern civilization. Philosophical thought plays a key role in this debate, through various theories that put forward the establishment of moral rights to animals. All this is also reflected in the adoption of strict legal frameworks in favor of animal protection throughout the Western world. In Greece, in recent years huge steps have been taken compared to the past and now a fairly strict legal framework has been adopted for the protection of animals (mainly companion animals) but also for the obligations of their owners. Nevertheless, animal abuse in Greece continues almost on a daily basis. To better understand the parameters that determine the human-animal relationship from an ethical point of view, an empirical study was conducted as part of an ongoing research investigating the perception and level of familiarity of university instructors on this topic. Research findings refer to four thematic categories: a) legal framework, b) animal rights-ethics, c) experimental animals, d) technology and animals and show that the academic background of the participants generally does not play a significant role in their answers.&nbsp

    Get PDF
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought massive changes to all aspects of human society and the economy. Recent outbreaks in Thailand lasted for a longer duration and have been more severe than the previous commencing epidemic, as evidenced by the increased counts of cases, hospitalizations, and, unfortunately, fatalities. Thereby, social distancing - the most powerful strategy to prevent the coronavirus spread - was more strictly imposed, as officials implemented vaccination and other mitigation strategies. Consequently, remote working has become obligatory for every firm, alternating working in person in most situations. This paper aims to reflect unique perceptions of employee experience and initially identify some contributing factors regarding the remote working situation in Thailand during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby illuminating implications for both employees and employers in the possible long-term future of remote working. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 participants who served different roles in various industries, yet all experienced remote working during the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak in Thailand. The subsequent analysis yielded four primary themes. First , the application of technology and its quality had a strong impact on employee experience, as this was the inevitable instrument to maintain all activities. Second, the discrepancy in role autonomy discriminated more distinctly the working pressure between managers and subordinates. Third, work-life balance was more difficult to achieve for people who have a family, with more blurs and complications. And finally, organizational changes were critical to employee experience, yet still limited and incomprehensible.&nbsp
