    Project Team Capability and Implementation of Integrated Infrastructure Projects in Government Agencies in Kenya

    The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between project team capability and the implementation of integrated infrastructure projects within government agencies in Kenya. Effective project team capability plays a pivotal role in driving the successful execution of infrastructure initiatives, aligning project objectives with national development priorities, and fostering stakeholder engagement. The study was anchored on the Resource Based Theory. The study adopted mixed method approaches. The target population was 504 and involved project managers, supervisors and contractors implementing implementation of integrated infrastructure projects in government agencies in Kenya. The sample size of the study was 223 participants computed using Slovin’s sample size determination formula. The study findings revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between project team capability and implementation of integrated infrastructure projects in government agencies in Kenya. In conclusion, project team capability is crucial for the successful implementation of integrated infrastructure projects in Kenya, as skilled teams enhance efficiency, risk management, and stakeholder satisfaction. It is recommended that government agencies invest in continuous training and leadership development to strengthen team competencies and foster collaboration, particularly in public-private partnerships. The findings imply that improving team capability will lead to more effective infrastructure delivery, driving economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.&nbsp

    Recently, CDR1 and CDR2 determining regions were discovered in the anti-HRP (Horese-radish peroxydase) primitive invertebrate antibody (IPA). In the same time 3D modelizations of this primitive antibody, were presented ,in collaboration with EMBL (Grenoble, Hamburg).It seems interesting to show and it would be interesting to restudy the complex HRP-sea star anti HRP and this primitive antibody by the use of crystallisation and X-Ray observations.&nbsp

    Analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds from Trogoderma Variabile Ballion (Coleoptera: Dermestidae) Infested and Non-Infested Stored Grain Using SPME Coupled with GC-MS and FID

    The study seeks to employ gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry (GC–MS) to examine the chemical profile of Trogoderma variabile across different host grains, including oats, wheat, and barley. It also seeks to compare samples of healthy grain (non-insect-contaminated) to those infested by T. variabile, to determine if unique compounds can be used to detect infestation. This would suggest that HS-SPME coupled with GC-MS could serve as a method for identifying T. variabile infestations.T. variabile was reared on the three various commodities. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was employed, followed by gas flame ionization (GC-FID) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for the collection, separation, and identification of compounds. The findings revealed that 23 compounds were identified from adult insects reared on canola and wheat.  Additionally, 26 compounds were emitted from both non-infested and infested wheat, with 22 being highly significant. Furthermore, 21 compounds showed significant differences between non-infested and infested oats. For infested and non-infested barley, 18 compounds differed significantly between the treatments.&nbsp

    In single n+(p+) − p(n) [XX(xx) ≡ GaAs1−xTex]-alloy junction solar cells at 300 K, 0 ≤ x ≤ 1, by basing on the same physical model and the same treatment method, as those used in our recent work (Van Cong, 2023), we will investigate the highest (or maximal) efficiencies, ηImax.(IImax.), obtained at the open circuit voltage Voc(=VocI(ocII)), according to highest hot reservoir temperatures TH(K), obtained from the Carnot efficiency theorem, being proved by entropy law. Here, one first remarks that, with increasing x=(0, 0.5,1), (i)- from Table 3, for the single n+ − p X(x)-alloy junction solar cell and for given rSn(Cd)-radius, for example, ηImax. (↗)= 31.14%, 31.55%, 32.11%, according to TH(K) = 435.7, 438.3, 4444 . 99, at VocI(V) = 1.07, 1.07, 11. 00 , respectively, while, (ii)- from Table 5, for the single p+ − n X(x)-alloy junction solar cell and for givenrCd(Sn)-radius, for example, ηIImax. (↘)= 33.04%, 32.65%, 32.51%, according to TH(K) = 444444. 00, 445.4, 444.5, at VocII(V)[> VocI(V)] = 1.20, 1.19, 1.18, respectively, suggesting that suchηImax.(IImax.)-and-TH variations depend on the VocII(V)[> VocI(V)] − values. Then, as given in Table3, for x = 0 and for rd(a) = rTe(Mg), one gets: ηI =23.48 % and 29.71 % at Voc = 0.98 V and 1.1272 V, respectively, which can also be compared with the corresponding results, obtained for the single-junction GaAs thin-film solar cell, 22.08 % and 29.71 %, with relative deviations in absolute values, 6.34 % and 2.1 %, and given respectively by Moon et al. (2016) and Green et al. (2022). As a result, in orderto obtain the highest efficiencies, the single GaAs1−xTex-alloy junction solar cells could be chosen ratherthan the single crystalline GaAs-junction solar cell.&nbsp

    Workplace Ergonomics and Employee Performance in Registered Private Security Firms in Kenya

    Employee performance in private security firms is Kenya is facing numerous challenges frequently emanation from workplace environment. Therefore, this study sought to assess the effect of workplace ergonomics on workplace ergonomics on employee performance in private security firms in Kenya. The study was anchored on the Two-Factor Theory of Motivation. The study utilized positivism research approach. The study used descriptive and correlation research designs. The study population was 13,484 drawn form the Kenya Security Industry Association (KSIA) and Protective Security Industry Association (PSIA). The sample size was 180 respondents established by use of Slovin sample size determination formulae. Questionnaires were used as instruments for obtaining the data required. Validity and reliability of the questionnaire were enhanced by carrying out a pilot study prior to data collection. The study adopted regression analysis to establish the effect of workplace ergonomics on employee performance in private security firms in Kenya. The study findings indicated that workplace ergonomics had a positive and significant relationship with employee performance in private security firms in Kenya. Therefore, the relationship between workplace ergonomics and employee performance is crucial as it can have far-reaching implications for both employees and organizations. The positive and significant relationship between workplace ergonomics and employee performance suggests that private security firms should consider investing in ergonomic improvements to create a healthier, more productive, and engaged workforce. It can have a cascading effect on various aspects of organizational success. Therefore, the implications of workplace ergonomics on employee performance in private security firms in Kenya are diverse and can positively impact both the physical and psychological well-being of employees. Private security firms need to recognize and invest in ergonomic principles to create a healthier, more productive, and more satisfying work environment. This, in turn, can contribute to the overall success and sustainability of private security firms in Kenya.&nbsp

    Effect of Petroleum Illegal Refining Activities on Cassava Plant in the Niger Delta

    The evolution of illegal refining was briefly discussed leading to an experimental research of its effects on cassava plant which is a major staple food in the region. Two deactivated illegal refinery sites were selected for the studies; cassava plant (tubers, stem and leaves) samples were taken from these sites with a control and then analyzed for the concentrations of Heavy Metals, BTEX, PAHs and THC. The results show that the mean concentration of heavy metals in cassava tuber were Pb (5.31±0.17 mg/kg), Cd (6.44±0.23mg/kg), Cr (5.25±0.02 mg/kg), As (9.27±0.04 mg/kg), Zn (5.30±0.17 mg/kg), Cu (4.17±0.06 mg/kg), Ni (13.52±0.01 mg/kg) and Co (40.66±0.00) (mg/kg) for site A; while site B has Pb (0.15±0.03 mg/kg), Cd (0.107±0.06 mg/kg), Cr (0.167±0.03 mg/kg), As (1.83±0.02 mg/kg), Zn (0.063±0.02 mg/kg), Cu (0.079±0.04 mg/kg), Ni (0.113±0.01 mg/kg) and Co (0.082±0.05 mg/kg). The mean concentration values of heavy metals in cassava tuber were higher than the control mean values. Plant Concentration Factor was also calculated from the studies. Result also showed higher mean concentration values of BTEX and PAHs for cassava plant (tuber, stem and leaves) when compared with control values and WHO permissible limits for plants. The overall result indicates the contamination and pollution of cassava plant from both studied sites due to illegal petroleum crude oil refining activities.&nbsp

The movement of ions within cells is assisted by ATP and has a role in metabolic activity. Abnormalities in the oral cavity such as periodontal disorders are one of the disorders that are correlated with potassium. Periodontitis is associated with proinflammatory factors such as TNF alpha and IL-6 which turns out to be related to potassium. Apart from that, individuals who lose teeth are related to their potassium intake. Potassium regulates intracellular organ pH, which is crucial for the enzymatic control of the body's metabolism.&nbsp

    Epidemiological and histopathological aspects of lymphomas at Zinder National Hospital, Niger

    Introduction: Lymphoma is a malignant lymphocytic hemopathy characterized by diffuse lymph node or extranodal infiltration. It occurs at all ages and poses a problem for us in terms of positive diagnosis and management. The objective of this study is to determine the epidemiological and histological aspects of lymphomas at the National Hospital Zinder. Methodology: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study of patient records collected for histopathological examination between November 2019 and December 2023. Included were patients of any age and of both sexes with their histopathological findings available. Results: Lymphomas accounted for 3.47% of all malignancies. The 40 to 60 age group was the most affected with 40.90% (n=9) of cases. The mean age was 45±20.05. The sex ratio was 1.75. Lymph node localization accounted for 68.18% (n=15) of cases. Histological examination confirmed the type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 77.27% (n=17) of cases. Phenotype B lymphoma predominates in 86.36% of cases (n=19). Our study showed that indolent lymphoma was the most common histological subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 31.82% (n=7) of cases. Hodgkin's lymphocytic depleted lymphoma was found in 13.63% (n=3) of cases. Conclusion: The analysis of these results allowed us to appreciate the extent of lymphomas and their multiple implications in our society by highlighting a high frequency of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas in the region.&nbsp

    Computational Skills in Solving Application Problems Involving Basic Differentiation Rules in Differential Calculus: An Explanatory Sequential Study

    This study aimed to identify the level of computational skills and the challenges of students in solving application problems using basic differentiation rules in differential calculus. This study employed a mixed method explanatory-sequential design, which involves collecting and analyzing quantitative data first, followed by the collection and analysis of qualitative data. In the quantitative phase of this research, a simple random sampling method was utilized to administer a modified questionnaire (problem-solving examination type) to 50 calculus students. In the qualitative phase, purposive sampling was used to administer semi-structured in-depth interviews (IDIs) to a sample of 6 participants. Mean and thematic analysis with document analysis were utilized to examine the information that helped researchers identify problem about the subject matter. The study shows an overall high level of computational skills in basic differentiation, which means that the computational skills of students are often manifested. However, the computational skills of students in differential calculus in terms of chain rule are low, which is interpreted as rarely manifested. With this, this research had undergone an in-depth analysis of the challenges of the students in solving application problems using chain rule. The results reveal 3 challenges why the students’ computational skills in terms of the chain rule are low: the complexity of the composition of the chain rule, a lack of practice and exposure in using the chain rule, and uncertainty regarding its application. Effective teaching strategies are essential for breaking down complex concepts and enhancing students' computational skills in basic differentiation rules in calculus.&nbsp
