    “Time Never Worked That Way:” Toni Morrison’s Disruption of Historical Chronology in Beloved

    This article reads Toni Morrison’s Beloved (1987) as a form, intervention and expansion of Black temporality. Rather than retelling history in linear time, Morrison uses a recursive, ghosted narrative that deconstructs the divide between past and present. Drawing on Tao Leigh Goffe\u27s concept of “maroon time,” the novel is here read as a refusal of Enlightenment chrononormativity as well as racial capitalism\u27s demand for closure, progress, and resolution. With Morrison\u27s free indirect discourse, fractured pace, and spectrality, Beloved inscribes time as trauma, survival, and resistance. The novel re-writes the Black womb as a site not of reproduction but of temporal disjunction, its form possessing a fugitive beat that shatters Western historiography. Morrison extends the grammar of Black narration by architecting a temporality which is incomplete, relational, and speculative, rendering the novel an ethical and political site of refusal

    Predložený výskum sa zameriava na analýzu pevnosti otvorenej skrine vozňa pri jej zdvíhaní za účelom výmeny podvozkov v podmienkach železničnej trajektovej stanice. Bolo zistené, že pevnosť konštrukcie otvorenej skrine vozňa odoláva zaťaženiam vznikajúcim pri jej zdvíhaní manipulačným strojom. Boli analyzované miesta, kde dopravné zariadenie interaguje s ťažnými konzolami, ktoré sú privarené k rohovým stĺpikom skrine vozňa. Vykonaný výskum prispeje k vytvoreniu odporúčaní pre návrh moderných konštrukcií nákladných vozňov a zvýšenie efektívnosti prevádzky v železnično-trajektových komplexoch.The presented research highlights the analysis of the strength of an open wagon body when it is lifted to change bogies in the conditions of a railway ferry station. It has been established that the strength of the open wagon body structure withstands the loads arising during its lifting by a handling machine. There were analysed the places, where a transport equipment interacts with the towing brackets, which are welded to the corner posts of the wagon body. The conducted research will contribute to the creation of recommendations for the design of modern freight wagon structures and increasing the efficiency of the operation in railway-ferry stations

    Článek se zabývá přínosy použití dvourychlostních převodovek v individuálním pohonu dvojkolí u regionálních vozidel BEMU. Analyzuje konstrukční možnosti použití příčného pohonu v trakčním dvounápravovém podvozku. Ukazuje možnosti energetické úspory trakční energie dosažitelné při vhodném řízení jízdy regionálního vozidla typu BEMU při použití asynchronního nebo synchronního trakčního motoru a jednostupňové nebo dvourychlostní převodovky.The article deals with the benefits of using two-speed gearboxes in individual wheel set drive in regional BEMU vehicles. It analyzes the design possibilities of using a transverse drive in a traction two-axle chassis. It shows the possibilities of energy saving of traction energy achievable with appropriate driving control of a regional BEMU vehicle using an asynchronous or synchronous traction motor and a single-speed or two-speed gearbox

    Příspěvek je zaměřen na hodnocení vztahu dvojkolí–kolej při průjezdu dvojitou srdcovkou v tramvajovém provozu. Rozbor obsahuje dva nejčastější případy z hlediska konstrukce koleje – křížení s hlubokými žlábky v konstrukci koleje z Vignolových kolejnic a křížení s mělkými žlábky. Je využita metoda posuzování průjezdu přes dvojité srdcovky definovaná ve vyhlášce UIC 510-2, která je aplikována do oblasti tramvajového provozu. Rozbor vztahu dvojkolí–kolej je proveden pro různé hodnoty klíčových rozměrových parametrů dvojkolí a koleje za účelem stanovení základních požadavků pro zajištění spolehlivého vedení tramvajového dvojkolí při průjezdu dvojitou srdcovkou.This paper is concerned to the assessment of a wheelset–track interaction in the obtuse crossing of a tram operation. The analysis contains the two most common cases in terms of a tram track structure – the crossing with the deep grooves in the tram track structure of the Vignol rails and the crossing with the flat grooves. The method of the assessment of a wheelset passing over the obtuse crossing defined in the code UIC 510-2 is used and applied to the tram operation. The analysis of a wheelset-track interaction is performed for the different values of the key dimensional parameters of a wheelset and a track for the purpose of the determination of the basic requirements to ensure the reliable tram wheelset guidance passing over the obtuse crossing

    The Phenomenon of Adultification in R. Riggs’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

    This article examines the representation of adultification in Ransom Riggs’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2011), focusing on how the narrative positions children within adult roles and responsibilities. Central to the analysis are the concepts of boundary dissolution and parentification, alongside the recurring tropes of the child redeemer and the lost child, and pervasive experiences of trauma and ennui. Through these frameworks, Riggs’s characters are shown inhabiting liminal identities that blur conventional distinctions between childhood and adulthood. Drawing on Kathryn Bond Stockton’s theory of “growing sideways,” the article explores how the peculiar children resist linear models of development and instead inhabit non-normative trajectories of growth shaped by delay, repetition, and queer temporality. By examining these narrative and psychological dimensions, the discussion highlights how Riggs portrays childhood as a space of burden, responsibility, and vulnerability. Ultimately, the article argues that Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children challenges conventional frameworks of childhood, offering a complex vision of growth and identity that unsettles developmental norms

    Tento příspěvek je věnován vybraným problémům interakce železničního vozidla a koleje v obloucích malých poloměrů, které jsou na Dopravní fakultě Jana Pernera Univerzity Pardubice aktuálně řešeny v rámci závěrečných prací studentů. V první části je pozornost věnována účinkům různých koncepcí pojezdu šestinápravové lokomotivy na kolej, a to s ohledem na příčné silové působení a opotřebení; analyzována je v této souvislosti i švýcarská metodika kvantifikace poškozujících účinků jízdy vozidla na kolej. Ve své druhé části se pak tento příspěvek zabývá zejména dovoleným převýšením a strmostí vzestupnic v obloucích malých poloměrů. Pozornost je věnována omezujícím faktorům a jejich vlivům na dosažitelnou traťovou rychlost.This paper is focused on selected problems of the vehicle-track interaction in small radius curves, which are currently solved at the Faculty of Transport Engineering of the University of Pardubice as part of students\u27 theses. In the first part, attention is paid to the effects of different design concepts of running gear of a six-axle locomotive on the track, with regard to lateral force effects and wear; the Swiss methodology of quantifying the damaging effects of vehicle running on the track is analysed in this context. In the second part, this paper deals especially with the permissible cant of track and steepness of transition curves in the small radius curves. Attention is paid to the limiting factors and their consequences in terms of achievable track speed

    Jedním z nástrojů pro snížení tření a opotřebení na rozhraní okolku a pojížděné hrany kolejnice jsou tuhá maziva, aplikovaná na okolek zařízením instalovaným na vozidle. Pro testování takových maziv je k dispozici metodika využívající dvoukotoučový stroj. Na výsledky zkoušky mají vliv různé faktory, z nichž tento příspěvek se zabývá silou přítlaku vzorku maziva. Z provedených experimentů vyplývá identifikace tohoto vlivu; s využitím jiných publikovaných výsledků je doplněno i vysvětlení jevů, které se odehrávají na rozhraní zkušebních těles a které určují vývoj součinitele tření během zkoušky.Solid lubricants, applied to flanges of rail vehicles by bogie-mounted devices, comprise one of the tools for reducing friction and wear at the interface of the flange and the rail gauge face. For testing these lubricants, a standard methodology using a twin-disc machine is available. Test results are affected by various factors, of which this paper deals with the application force of the lubricant sample. The experiments result not only in the identification of this effect, but also – in the context of other published results – an explanation of the phenomena that take place at the interface of the test discs and that determine the development of the friction coefficient during the test

    In this article, the author examines the political writings of French authors in the 18th century concerning plans to repair the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The scale of this phenomenon was aboveaverage, thanks to the activity of the Bar Confederation deputy Michał Wielhorski, at whose instigation leading representatives of the French Enlightenment from different political and ideological camps joined the discourse. The author makes a comparison between the solutions that were presented and tries to show the similarities related to Michal Wielhorski’s interference in the texts of their treatises and the differences resulting from the ideological divergence between their authors. Furthermore, he presents excerpts from the texts that suggest the influence of the founder of the texts on their final shape. An attempt is also made to assess to what extent the plans that were presented were a real attempt to help the Commonwealth and to what extent they were rather personal political-ideological manifestos of the individual authors.In this article, the author examines the political writings of French authors in the 18th century concerning plans to repair the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
