The Assimilation of Post-War Generations of Czech Immigrants in Chicago
No full textThis paper presents the results of the research conducted since 2013 in the Czech immigrant community in Chicago. The case of Czech immigration is particularly interesting, as it can be considered a textbook example of successful assimilation. Czechs had arrived in Chicago as early as mid-19th century. During the 20th and 21st centuries, there have been several waves of Czech immigration, usually connected to political as well as economic situations in Czechoslovakia or later the Czech Republic. The research methodology is based mainly on participatory observations and interviews. The research sample includes respondents from different migration waves, especially political immigrants after 1948 and 1968 who have legal status, as well as post-1989 immigrants whose choice to migrate was largely non-political and mostly economic. Czech immigration can generally be characterized by very strong and relatively fast assimilation across generations

No full textThe paper intends to analyse development of the literary representation of women in Elizabethan and Jacobean culture, forming an integral part of female authorship during this period, especially on the basis of Mary Wrothʼs poetry in the dialogue with the male poetic tradition (William Herbert, William Shakespeare). However, instead of taking aim at the male view, the genius of Wroth is to absorb it and use it for her own ends. Reclaiming the virtues of the woman through constancy, she upends the conventional views of the woman. Thus, Wroth strengthens the autonomy of the woman by allowing her to make the decision to accept a role subordinate to man
The Role of Setting in the Golden Age Detective Novel
No full textAnalyses of crime fiction often focus on the plot, characters and their social positioning but tend to pay much less attention to the actual setting. Employing the concept of active and passive relationships of setting and plot, G. J. Demko’s notion of cultural and physical space as well as other theories of literary representation of place, the article discusses the role of setting in the Golden Age crime fiction, namely in Agatha Christie’s The Mysterious Affair at Styles and Third Girl.

No full textV České republice je poměrně hustá silniční i železniční síť. Na mnohých místech proto dochází ke křížení těchto dopravních cest. Úrovňové křížení železniční dráhy s pozemními komunikacemi – železniční přejezdy – s sebou nesou možnost vzniku konfliktních situací, které předcházejí dopravním nehodám. Dopravní nehody jsou jedním z ukazatelů bezpečnosti silniční a železniční dopravy. V článku jsou zpracovány vybrané statistické údaje týkající se systému silniční a železniční dopravy, železničních přejezdů a dopravních nehod na nich.In the Czech Republic is relatively dense road and rail network. In many places, therefore, leads to a crossing of these transport routes. Level crossing of rail track with roads (level crossing) carry with them the possibility of emergence of conflict situations, which prevent traffic accidents. Traffic accidents are one of the indicators of the safety of road and rail transport. No full textStrategie podpory udržitelného vývoje železniční nákladní dopravy je všeobecně známa, široce podporována a podrobně popsána v Bílé knize EK z března 2011. I přes pokračující investice a postupný rozvoj se železniční nákladní doprava ve střední Evropě potýká s řadou významných omezujících faktorů. Výzkumným záměrem tohoto příspěvku je s použitím analýzy dostupných zdrojů informací, poukázat na faktory omezující růst výkonnosti železniční nákladní přepravy a identifikovat oblasti pro možná zlepšení. Nástrojem použitým k hodnocení výkonnosti železničních nákladních dopravců v regionu střední Evropy je metoda benchmarkingu. Příspěvek poukazuje na přetrvávající rozdíly ve výkonnosti železničních nákladních dopravců působících ve střední Evropě.Strategies supporting sustainable development of rail freight transport are well known, widely respected and accurately described in the EC´s White paper from March 2011. Despite continuous investment and constant development, rail freight transport in Central Europe faces a number of significant limiting factors. The research intention of this paper is to analyze available sources of information, to point out shortcoming and to suggest possible improvements. Benchmarking is used as a tool to compare performance levels of rail freight carriers in Central European region. The paper highlights the persistent differences in efficiency of rail freight transport providers operating in Central Europe

Jeho řídicí algoritmus je implementován na hardware pro HIL testování. Je sledována reakce sestaveného mechatronického systému na reálné snímače a v závěru jsou zobrazeny výsledky z real-time testování k ověření správné reakce akčního členů.Tento článek se zabývá laboratorním testováním snímačů a akčních členů u mechtronického systému určeného pro automatické uzavírání diferenciálu. No full textDoprava ako moderný a dynamický segment prechádza neustále prudkým vývojom.Reflektuje tým požiadavky rýchlejšej, efektívnejšej a bezpečnejšej dopravy, na druhejstrane prináša so sebou riziko vzniku mimoriadnych udalostí s negatívnyminásledkami na život, zdravie obyvateľov a životné prostredie. Hodnotenie dôsledkovnehôd z mobilných zdrojov rizika bolo doteraz v Európskej únii riešené iba okrajovo.Problematika posudzovania a hodnotenia mobilných zdrojov rizík nie je upravenázákonom a preto nie je vytváraný dostatočný tlak na riadenie a znižovanie rizík.Cieľom predkladaného príspevku je poukázať na skutočnosť, že prepravanebezpečných látok, z hľadiska charakteru prepravovaného materiálu, predstavujev prípade vzniku mimoriadnej udalosť osobitné nebezpečenstvo predovšetkým preľudí. Uniknuté toxické alebo horľavé látky môžu ohroziť život a zdravie mnohýchobyvateľov. Prínosom článku je aj praktický príklad podrobného hodnotenia rizík

Transport as a modern and dynamic segment is constantly developing rapidly. It reflects the demands of faster, more efficient and safer transport, on the other hand it brings with it the risk of emergency events with negative consequences for the life, health of the population and the environment. The assessment of the consequences of mobile accident hazards has been solved in the European Union marginally. The issue of assessing and evaluating mobile sources of risk is not regulated by law and therefore there is insufficient pressure to manage and reduce risks. The aim of the present contribution is to point out that the transport of dangerous substances, in terms of the nature of transported material, presents a special hazard in the event of an emergency, especially for humans. Leaked toxic or flammable substances may endanger the life and health of many people. The contribution of this article is also a practical example detailed assessment of risks related to the transport of hazardous substances by road

No full textCieľom riešenej štúdie bolo zmapovanie spin-off spoločností v podmienkach Žilinskej univerzity v Žiline, konkrétne na Fakulte prevádzky a ekonomiky dopravy a spojov a Fakulte riadenia a informatiky. Jedná sa o podrobnú analýzu podnikateľskej aktivity pedagógov, výskumníkov, vedeckých pracovníkov a PhD. študentov vzhľadom na ich dopravné zameranie. Hlavnou úlohou bolo identifikovať spoločnosti podnikajúce v oblasti dopravy a následne posúdiť spoluprácu s univerzitou a rozhodnúť, či sa jedná o spin-off spoločnosť na základe zvolenej definície.The aim of the study was to map spin-off companies in conditions of the University of Zilina in Zilina, namely on the Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications and the Faculty of Management and Informatics. A detailed analysis of entrepreneurial activities of pedagogues, researchers, scientific workers and PhD. students was conducted considering their traffic orientation. The main task was to identify transport companies and then assess their cooperation with the university and decide if it is a spin-off company based on the chosen definition

A transport company that has been defined as the main business aktivity like a mediation of the transport of goods and services, has a difficult position to succeed in the market, where many companies have the same focus. It is the transport price that is important for the customer, for which the shipment is carried out. Being a transport company, the cheapest for the customer, that means getting it to carry out the transport. In this article the authors look at one of the tools more specifically, which acts on the price of making the price in road freight transport, namely the tax on motor vehicles, through which some carriers can be more competitive as other carriers on the EU transport market
