Computer-Aided Modelling of Stormwater Systems
Computer-Aided Modelling of Stormwater Systems deals with the construction of probabilistic models of rainfall and their use in the sizing of retention tanks. The book discusses methods of sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of hydrodynamic models of urban catchments, as well as proprietary calculation algorithms for the sizing of retention tanks, considering the uncertainty of calibrated parameters and the variability of outflow hydrographs from the catchment and shape parameters. This is important from the point of view of contemporary hydrology of urban catchments because it is the reliability of the identified parameters and their appropriate selection that determines the developed hydrodynamic model of the catchment, so that it finds a practical application in sewage network management. Also included are innovative graphical and analytical methods of tanks sizing, whereby the shapes of hydrographs of the outflow from the catchment area are considered, which is omitted in most of the methods used. Hybrid models which are a combination of graphical and analytical methods with probabilistic models of rainfall are also presented, which makes it possible to shorten the calculation time. Finally, the ability to implement computational algorithms in the field of sensitivity and uncertainty analysis can also be used when analysing catchments with implemented green infrastructure facilities. Computer-Aided Modelling of Stormwater Systems is aimed at doctoral students, research workers and engineers as an introduction to modern methods of modelling stormwater and combined sewer networks together with the objects located on it, such as retention tanks. The here collected contributions relating to the 46th International Conference of the Representation Disciplines Teachers, organized jointly by Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, and San Raffaele Roma University, aim to offer the scientific community a reflection on the theoretical and methodological aspects related to the concept of èkphrasis, a term that, in the field of representation, concerns descriptive, analogical, and digital activities that generate new knowledge in several areas of application. The Conference aims to place at the center of the discussion an interpretation of the concept of research that, without neglecting an idea of study, protection, and enhancement of environmental and cultural heritage, focuses on the needs of contemporary society and its possible developments, making use of innovative theoretical, methodological, and operational activities, including those characterized by an interdisciplinary approach. According to this interpretation, research can also be seen as a foreshadowing of the definition and testing of experimental proposals aimed at exploring new areas of investigation: this opens up imaginative and utopian perspectives in the relationship between the sciences, the arts, and the disciplines that contribute to common goals, through the experimentation of methods, techniques, and languages for conceiving, prefiguring, designing, and representing

With the scientific anthology Professional Developmental Mentoring for Individual and Collective Development, the Network for Professional Developmental Mentoring for Newly Qualified Teachers in Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary Education marks its more than 20-year history. Since 2003, the network's former and current participants and colleagues have published countless scientific articles, doctoral degrees, monographs and anthologies that have been of great importance for the development of the profession mentoring field in the entire education sector from kindergarten to higher education. The anthology presents key concepts related to mentoring and the transition from teacher education to become a professional teacher in kindergartens and schools. An insight is given into the historical development of follow-up and professional developmental mentoring for newly qualified teachers in Norway. Empirical research on mentoring programmes shows examples of further development of the programmes, and the knowledge base for the professional development mentoring field is challenged to contribute to discussion and further research. The anthology also presents a variety of possibilities, perspectives and theoretical approaches within the professional field related to mentoring in teacher education, professional development mentoring for newly graduates and the establishment and development of professional learning communities in kindergartens and schools. Space, Affect, Memory
Space, Affect, Memory highlights the centrality of space in modern and contemporary culture, both as an object of study and as a concept that underpins research and creative practice. In so doing, this book argues for the necessity of a new approach to space which integrates its affective and memorial dimension. Contributors from different fields explore and advance debates in literary geography from diverse transnational perspectives through close readings of canonical and less familiar cultural and literary productions in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Japanese, in locales spanning Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe. In this way, Space, Affect, Memory decentres the anglophone bias of established scholarly approaches in literary geography, probing terminologies and methodologies from different national traditions. Finally, Space, Affect, Memory interweaves the visual arts by engaging with photography, performance and architecture. As a result, the volume offers a fresh, comparative perspective on the intermingling of space, affect and memory that lies at the heart of literary geography and comparative literature. These efforts converge in a shared attempt to pluralize the field (geographies) and to showcase the numerous possibilities of creative, transdisciplinary interaction between media, performance and representation, across cultures
Cervantine Blackness
There is no shortage of Black characters in Miguel de Cervantes’s works, yet there has been a profound silence about the Spanish author’s compelling literary construction and cultural codification of Black Africans and sub-Saharan Africa. In Cervantine Blackness, Nicholas R. Jones reconsiders in what sense Black subjects possess an inherent value within Cervantes’s cultural purview and literary corpus. In this unflinching critique, Jones charts important new methodological and theoretical terrain, problematizing the ways emphasis on agency has stifled and truncated the study of Black Africans and their descendants in early modern Spanish cultural and literary production. Through the lens of what he calls “Cervantine Blackness,” Jones challenges the reader to think about the blind faith that has been lent to the idea of agency—and its analogues “presence” and “resistance”—as a primary motivation for examining the lives of Black people during this period. Offering a well-crafted and sharp critique, through a systematic deconstruction of deeply rooted prejudices, Jones establishes a solid foundation for the development of a new genre of literary and cultural criticism. Advances in Non-Destructive Testing Methods, 2nd Edition
Non-destructive testing is a group of surface and volumetric diagnostic tests that provide information about the functional properties of the tested object. They enable the determination of the condition of the micro- and macrostructure without any interference to the structure. Due to this basic feature, the main purpose of non-destructive testing is the detection of material defects and the evaluation of tested objects for discontinuity and lack of uniformity. Thanks to NDT, it is possible to, for example, detect corrosion and erosion defects or cracks. Non-destructive testing can be carried out at various stages of production, operation, or repair. They are used to perform quality control of products and to determine the technical condition of the object. As a result, non-destructive testing has a wide range of applications in various branches of industry. The aim of the second part of this Topic is to continue with the presentation of both the development of various non-destructive testing methods, as well as examples of applications of this group of tests in various branches of industry

Irregular migration systems are giving way to an undocumented population in Europe that is estimated at some millions. The migrants managed to live and work for years without a certified identity yet within ‘foggy’ social structures. What strategies and mechanisms allow them to avoid detection, generate an income and access necessary services? What alternatives are pursued - at whatever human cost - to substitute for political membership and legal protection? How does irregular status impact social interactions? Based on empirical studies carried out across the continent, this book explores how irregular migration systems developed over time to interact with changing European labour markets, welfare regimes and immigration policies.
