No full textHow do we follow affects in places? And how do they follow us? How can rural places be described as "affective places"? Considering local and global transformations and crises, this book examines the "how" of culture in rural areas. It delves into everyday stories and natural-cultural landscapes in three rural regions of Germany. On the basis of concrete places and institutions, traces and practices of cultural education are also followed; it becomes obvious that rural regions are not "Wastelands". They offer a wealth of "affective places" to be experienced and lived out. This "ethnographic collage" brings together vignettes, photo essays and reflections at the interface of affect theory, sensory ethnography, artistic research and feminist new materialism. No full textThe here collected contributions relating to the 46th International Conference of the Representation Disciplines Teachers, organized jointly by Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, and San Raffaele Roma University, aim to offer the scientific community a reflection on the theoretical and methodological aspects related to the concept of èkphrasis, a term that, in the field of representation, concerns descriptive, analogical, and digital activities that generate new knowledge in several areas of application. The Conference aims to place at the center of the discussion an interpretation of the concept of research that, without neglecting an idea of study, protection, and enhancement of environmental and cultural heritage, focuses on the needs of contemporary society and its possible developments, making use of innovative theoretical, methodological, and operational activities, including those characterized by an interdisciplinary approach. the displacements and disruptions caused by war, including the
necessity to flee and seek refuge in exile. The book focuses on the
interruptions to early education and the challenges of accessing
education in a refugee context. It explores the difficulties that refugees face in attaining education and the role of complementary
educational pathways that allow them to pursue higher education.
The book begins by examining how complementary education
pathways provide vital opportunities for refugee students to complete higher education. It then recounts William’s journey as a child
in his village before and during the war, which led to his fleeing to
a refugee camp in Uganda with his grandmother. William shares a
narrative of challenges, but also highlights resilience in the face of
adversity. He discusses his experience of relocating to Canada to
pursue higher education through the World University Service of
Canada (WUSC). The book addresses the challenges that he faced
in finding employment as a student and the financial hardships he
encountered. William later moved to Australia to complete a master’s degree and subsequently earned a PhD. He started a family
and actively contributed to his community, just like other people
who have not experienced armed conflict. Throughout the book,
recurring themes of hardship, resilience, and a sincere commitment to education and societal contribution are emphasised.Publishe
Prometheus and the Liver through Art and Medicine
No full textPrometheus was punished by the supreme god Zeus for giving to mankind the Olympic fire with which they learned to think and feel. He was chained to a cliff in the Caucasus, where, to make matters worse, he was visited daily by an eagle who ate part of his liver. At night, however, his liver grew back. We now know that the liver can regenerate, but were the ancient Greeks aware of this quality? The myth of Prometheus has been a source of inspiration for many visual artists over the centuries. In this book, the medical history of the liver is traced through the ages through an examination of historical texts on the organ’s functions and properties, parallel to the art movements in which the fascinating iconography of Prometheus is reviewed. The data of this scientific monograph complement and systematize existing approaches to the diagnosis and immunotherapy of immune-dependent lesions of the body of children, leading to psychiatric diseases. Chivalry, Reading, and Women's Culture in Early Modern Spain
No full textThe Iberian chivalric romance has long been thought of as an archaic, masculine genre and its popularity as an aberration in European literary history. Chivalry, Reading, and Women's Culture in Early Modern Spain contests this view, arguing that the surprisingly egalitarian gender politics of Spain's most famous romance of chivalry has guaranteed it a long afterlife. Amadís de Gaula had a notorious appeal for female audiences, and the early modern authors who borrowed from it varied in their reactions to its large cast of literate female characters. Don Quixote and other works that situate women as readers carry the influence of Amadís forward into the modern novel. When early modern authors read chivalric romance, they also read gender, harnessing the female characters of the source text to a variety of political and aesthetic purposes. This book analyses many versions of the romance from Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and England and tells a new story of the life, death, and influences of Amadís

No full textThis work is the result of the transition to book form of the VINCULUM project website dedicated to the ‘Vinculum Information System Guide’ (hence the acronym ‘VISG’1), based on two concerns: on the one hand, to ensure greater continuity of content; on the other hand, to transform the website into a ‘manual’-type reference tool, broadening its scope and giving it a format more suited to consultation, especially by early-career researchers. As the website is bilingual, the Portuguese version is now being published, with the English version remaining available on the site, and the English edition is planned for 2026. The original structure – institutions, documentation and legislation – remains unchanged, the logic of which we will explain below.PublishedA presente obra resulta da passagem a versão livro do website do projeto VINCULUM dedicado ao “Guia do sistema de informação vincular” (“Vinculum Information System Guide”, de onde a sigla “VISG”1), em função de duas preocupações – por um lado assegurar uma maior possibilidade de perenidade aos conteúdos; por outro, transformar o website num instrumento de consulta tipo “manual”, alargando o seu escopo e dotando-o de um formato mais adequado à consulta, em especial por parte de investigadores em início de carreira.
